Nine Star Burden - Chapter 145
Chapter 145: Stealing Star Beads
With the intention of stabbing them to death, Jiang Xiao and Xia Yan took the lead and looked around for possible prey in the tunnel. However, they were somewhat disappointed because it seemed that the tunnel was really the place for a rendezvous for the male and female savages. There were no other savages around.
In the search process, they figured out that there was probably a total of four exits. The sounds of the agitated roaring gradually grew distant. Everyone secretly rejoiced and felt thankful for the fact that they had hidden in the tunnel. Otherwise, the consequences would have been dire.
After stopping for a while, the group walked out of the cave again.
Finally, everyone felt the warm rays of the sun being cast on the ground. Xia Yan shook her palm and the flames in her palm gradually extinguished.
Everyone could still hear the sounds of the beasts growling, and it seemed that the battlefield wasn’t too far away.
Hai Tianqing comforted. “During the provincial league, you probably won’t face a battle with such a huge group. All the elite teams of each province have already entered the arena for the league. They’re also altering the venue, so you don’t have to worry.”
However, they did not seem frightened.
Xia Yan suggested. “Let’s go and take a look. Do the sounds come from there?”
Han Jiangxue thought about it for a while before nodding and saying, “Be careful. Go take a look, we might pick up plenty of corpses that haven’t been tampered with.”
Hai Tianqing remained silent.
Under Han Jiangxue’s command, everyone quickly moved forward in a 2-1-1 formation.
However, the forest was terrifyingly quiet and they had no idea whether the monsters that originally lived there were summoned by the leader and gone to join the battle team or had fled. Regardless, the entire journey was extremely smooth as they climbed up the mountain after judging the direction of the sounds.
When they arrived at a mountain, they finally smelled the faint, metallic odor of blood. They could also hear the sounds of fighting.
“Oh my god.” Xia Yan squatted down instinctively and crouched to hide behind a giant stone. She then looked over secretly.
There was a small canyon at the bottom. Such a scenic spot was indeed very special in the dense, green forest.
There was a bare boulder in the middle of the canyon which was dark brown in color and seemed like a majestic pillar.
The river around the boulder was still flowing from West to East.
The speed was extremely quick, but the water that was originally clear was stained with red, viscous blood. There were also large, motionless corpses floating on the river.
The terrain of the canyon seemed to have hindered the creatures from escaping, and the chasers had also finally met with their targets there. Finally, the two armies began fighting each other brutally.
The ones chasing were, of course, the physically strong and fit Ape Ghouls.
The ones fleeing were the savages who outnumbered the Ape Ghouls. However, they were still being chased and hunted down.
Jiang Xiao crouched and slowly crawled towards Xia Yan. He then looked down and couldn’t help but become astonished.
Jiang Xiao originally thought that the tens of thousands of White Ghouls in the Holy Ground were astonishing enough, but the scene in front of him left him with an unforgettable memory.
Although the number of monsters in front of them did not reach “tens of thousands”, there were still at least hundreds of them.
They looked around to see a group of Ape Ghouls and the savages that had just gotten into formation and were fighting hard.
At least half of the almost one hundred Ape Ghouls had already begun attacking violently and activating their Brutality Star Techniques.
The hundreds of savages did not sit back and do nothing. The various spearmen and swordsmen got into formation and stood at the front line while the female Archers shot arrows at the back. The arrows seemed to fall down like rain, emitting purple lights.
Among the savages, the ones that stood in the middle would be the most special. They were the Savage Sorcerers and Savage Sorceresses!
As the Savage Sorceress hollered, the savages stepped on the dim golden halo beneath their feet and the time scale turned rapidly in the clockwise direction, giving the savages an increased effect of Nostalgia.
The Savage Sorcerers were even more impressive…
“This is the correct way to use Explosive Corpse,” Xia Yan murmured.
Jiang Xiao also witnessed the bloody sight. An Ape Ghoul grew hysterical and allowed countless arrows and weapons to pierce through its thick fur. It then grabbed a swordsman and immediately yanked off his head.
That wasn’t all. The hysterical murder and the strong odor of blood constantly stimulated the Ape Ghouls. Even though the Ape Ghouls continuously attacked the savages, they did not seem to feel any pain at all.
It grabbed the headless corpse with its hand and bit it forcefully.
The Savage Sorcerer growled!
All of a sudden, the corpse in front of the Ape Ghoul and the one in its mouth exploded, causing the Ape Ghoul’s thick and coarse skin to be blasted away. The bunch of spearmen swarmed forward and stabbed the Ape Ghoul with their spears.
Another massive creature descended from the sky and its thick and buff shoulders were mushed up when they hit the ground.
The ideal formation would always consist of spearmen and swordsmen standing in front and the Savage Sorcerers and Savage Sorceresses in the middle. The female Archers would then launch attacks at the back.
However, in the canyon which was neither too large nor small, the front and the rear of the battlefield could no longer be distinguished. The Ape Ghouls flew everywhere and overturned everything around them.
Before they were completely subdued by the savages’ Resentment, they could at least cause some significant damage to the savages.
That was the most terrifying.
Ape Ghouls were dauntless and unafraid of death.
“Lie down and hide yourselves properly,” Han Jiangxue ordered when she reached the top of the mountain.
Everyone looked at Han Jiangxue and knew that they ought to not take part in such battles.
If Jiang Xiao’s team was stuck in the canyon, death would be their only fate.
They wouldn’t escape death and would definitely die.
Jiangxue stuck a finger out and waved it in the air, after which layers of overlapping space appeared on the left.
“Jiangxue, you…” Xia Yan’s eyes glistened as she got interrupted.
“Shut up and hide properly. Don’t let your head pop out,” Han Jiangxue said gently. She laid in the shrubs and hid behind a giant tree revealing only her head as she aimed her hand at the bloodied battlefield.
In the chaotic battlefield, a Savage Sorcerer suddenly leaped up as a gust of wind formed beneath his feet.
Bang!
The Savage Sorcerer yelled helplessly. Flying up and covering a distance of less than three meters, he was already smacked down by a massive figure. An Ape Ghoul smashed the Savage Sorcerer’s skull and its heavy body fell on the ground with a loud thud. It was then surrounded by a bunch of spearmen.
The Ape Ghoul roared loudly, seemingly having activated the Brutality Star Technique.
Han Jiangxue was not discouraged at all. The canyon below had already been covered in corpses and was extremely chaotic. However, the intense and vigorous battle taking place in front of them did not cause too much of a stir.
After locking onto her target, Han Jiangxue extended her right arm and curled her slender fingers.
This time, her target was a corpse that was half-submerged in the river of blood.
Clearly, it was a female who did not have any bow or arrows.
Was she a female savage of the lowest level?
However, she was equipped with leather armor and a pair of leather boots.
The corpse was bleeding while it was propelled into the air, after which it swayed and flew up the cliff, forming a parabola-shaped trajectory. It then landed on Xia Yan’s left.
There was a huge inertia. Although the corpse had already landed on the ground, it still rolled around.
“Go check if there are any Star Beads,” Han Jiangxue said.
Xia Yan pursed her lips, unsure of what was going on at all. She continued to follow Han Jiangxue’s commands and did not look down at the battlefield below. However, she suddenly heard the sounds of heavy objects falling to the ground.
She turned around and saw a corpse rolling away.
Xia Yan pressed her hands against the ground and was about to get up.
She then heard Han Jiangxue saying, “Crawl your way there.”
“Uh…” Xia Yan scratched her chestnut-colored hair in frustration and glanced at Han Jiangxue’s cold and serious side profile before conceding and crawling over.
Han Jiangxue seemed to be searching for prey.
In the canyon below, a Savage Sorceress holding her arm up suddenly flew up in the air, and as the halos beneath the feet of the spearmen and swordsmen disappeared quietly, her yelling caught the attention of the small battle team beside her. However, her voice was soon drowned out by the chaotic battlefield.
The struggling Savage Sorceress swayed in the air and screamed in exasperation before plunging into Han Jiangxue’s Sky Smasher.
Jiang Xiao said, “Seize the opportunity to catch more Savage Sorcerers.”
“Yeah,” Han Jiangxue said while keeping her eyes fixed on the battlefield and carefully searching.
Hai Tianqing warned. “Han Jiangxue, we can steal a few, but take note of your safety. Don’t end up losing your life too.”
Han Jiangxue said, “Li Weiyi, go with Teacher Hai and collapse the opening. Leave a small entrance and make adjustments. When the situation below is in control of one party, the three of us will quickly rush back to the tunnel. I hope that after the three of us enter the tunnel, the only entrance will be blocked immediately.”
“Got it,” Li Weiyi responded immediately. However, he did not stand up right away and instead, crawled downwards.
Hai Tianqing was dumbfounded.
I’m your mentor.
Why have I been duped into the team and ended up getting ordered around?
Lass, are you rebelling?
Another corpse fell from the sky, but it was not thrown into Sky Smasher. It seemed that it had already died.
Han Jiangxue said, “Xiaopi, take a look.”
While speaking, Han Jiangxue turned around and glanced at Hai Tianqing. “Although there are no monsters, we might have missed some. There’s no harm in being more careful. Look out for Li Weiyi.”
Han Jiangxue took out the dead Savage Sorceress from Sky Smasher and then looked at the sea of corpses within the canyon.
“Teacher Hai, hurry up!” Li Weiyi urged while trying to suppress his voice.
Hai Tianqing pushed his gold-framed glasses up his nose and hesitated for a moment.
Jiang Xiao had no idea what Hai Tianqing was thinking, but he noticed that he was still crawling towards Li Weiyi slowly.
Hai Tianqing!
