Nightmare's Call - Chapter 182
Chapter 182: Pressure: Part 3
Lin Sheng had expected that moment because his reputation in Xilin had probably spread a little.
For such a dangerous person to come to Xylond, it would be weird if the local special branches did not react.
“Alright, but make it quick.” Lin Sheng nodded.
…
Inside one of the empty offices within Yinglu Private Academy.
The two officers from the Special Resources Department sat opposite Lin Sheng.
“Our apologies. Due to your actions in Xilin, we are particularly concerned and wary about your motives in coming here,” the chubby man said.
“I am Maier, and I’ve been assigned to speak to you this time around. What is spoken here can affect your life further down the line, so please, take it seriously.”
Lin Sheng nodded.
“What do you want to know? Go ahead and ask.”
“Well then.” Maier nodded. “First question, why has the Ironfist Society come to Xylond?”
“If I tell you I’m here for personal reasons to study and avoid the chaos of war, would you believe me?” Lin Sheng raised his eyebrows.
The two did not answer; they clearly did not believe him. They only stared at him as they waited for him to speak the truth.
Lin Sheng smiled. “It’s true, I’m here to study.”
“Master Lin, please don’t insult our collective intelligence. Our Xylondian superiors have their eyes wide open on the Ironfist Society. If you can’t provide us with a proper reason, you might be deported,” Maier said with a serious expression.
“We cannot allow a terrorist organization like the Ironfist Society to take root in our country,” he added.
“Deported?” Lin Sheng pretty much understood Xylond’s take on the situation now. “Pardon me, but we have not done anything illegal here…”
“If you had done anything of that sort, we wouldn’t be the ones speaking to you now!” Another man in the corner shot a stern look at Lin Sheng as he lowered his head.
“What do you mean?” Lin Sheng was dumbfounded.
“There’s literally a Transcendent Special Forces team nearby, and they are ready to move in at any moment. So tell me, what is your true motive?” the man asked in a chilly voice.
“A Transcendent who controls one of the Ironfist Society’s branches coming all the way to Xylond to study business administration in some third rate academy? You’re insulting our intelligence!” the man slowly spat out every word.
Lin Sheng pondered for a bit and concurred. If he were in their place, he would not have bought it either.
Just as he was about to tell the truth…
*Bzzztt…* The cellphone of the chubby man before him—Maier—rang.
Maier quickly got up to answer the call. Not long after, he returned to his seat, his expression grim as he looked at Lin Sheng.
“I have bad news for you.”
“What?” Lin Sheng was dumbstruck.
“Some members of the Starfury Clan are here. The two of them are of the Suppression Class on paper, but their exact ability is unknown. They’re going to Xilin first, but they’ll be on your tail soon enough,” Maier said calmly.
Two Suppression Class members… so, two four-winged elites at the very least?
Lin Sheng’s heart sank. He was not surprised that the Starfury Clan would be able to find him so quickly. If they did not have that capability, they would not have been one of the dominating clans of the Heaven’s Spire.
What worried him the most was that a mere faction within the Heaven’s Spire like the Starfury Clan could summon such power at its beck and call.
“Thank you for telling me that. I will inform the emissary superiors. They’ll send someone over to deal with them,” Lin Sheng quickly answered.
“Isn’t it too late?” Maier was surprised.
Lin Sheng smiled slightly. “I won’t lie, due to some problems with our expansion, the Ironfist Society’s web is cast very wide. We have seniors from the society stationed here as well.”
He was beginning to spout bullsh*t now.
“Then, will Khadula of the Thousand Arms be here as well?” Maier continued to ask.
“I don’t know, but Khadula’s my senior, so he should be coming,” Lin Sheng replied.
“Alright…”
Maier and his partner looked at each other. One could see the fear in their eyes.
Khadula’s combat prowess, showcased during the battles in Xilin, was already beyond any doubt. He was at least on par with those of the Level 4 Suppression Class and could easily be the strongest of the Suppression class.
With his transformation, he could even reach Level 5. For such a powerful and dangerous element to clash with the elites from the Starfury Clan in Xylond…
The two felt a chill down their spines as they realized the ramifications that were to come.
After they asked Lin Sheng two more questions, they quickly left, leaving him alone to rest in the office.
Once the two men left, the smile on Lin Sheng’s face disappeared, and he turned grim.
“The Starfury Clan must know about Khadula, and to actually look for him after the fact, they have to be very well prepared…”
Lin Sheng started to worry. He was a little afraid that Khadula may not be able to hold up against the incoming danger.
“I better hurry.” He did not know when the Starfury Clan members would arrive, so figuring how to summon more strength was the best course of action he had.
“I better quicken the search inside Blackfeather City.” Lin Sheng had wanted to train his skills, but time was not on his side.
He needed to summon a second creature that could support Khadula. Most common monsters would not do jack in a fight among elites. He needed a three-winged monster at least for it to be of use.
A Suppression-level monster was probably still beyond him but a three-winged monster, he still had a chance to take one out.
If there were enough Level 3s, he could even invoke a mutation.
Of course, if things did not work out, he could only try to escape again with his family. After all, they were looking for Khadula and not him per se.
“If that’s the case, I have an idea to delay it…”
“In this day and age, if I resist once, I’d need to resist all the way. It’s a sad reality.”
Lin Sheng stood up and pushed the office door open as he left.
…
*Tick tock, tick tock…*
Amid the ticking of the clock, Lin Sheng was slowly roused in the darkness.
He was standing at the center of a pew as if he had just gotten up from it.
He held his sword tightly while he quickly turned to the main door of the sanctum. As he made his way out of the steel gate, he proceeded along the street and returned to the front of the Warrior’s Guild.
*Clank.*
A loud clank rang out as he stepped on the fallen metal gate.
Once again, Lin Sheng stood before the main door of the guildhall and pushed it open.
*Creak…*
As the door opened, the long crypt-like hall appeared again.
Two bull-horned warriors were patrolling the place, and the moment they heard the noise, they immediately charged at him.
Lin Sheng held his sword out and blocked their attack.
*Bam!!*
The three of them clashed as Lin Sheng held them off with his sword in one hand and struck them like a bolt of lightning with his other hand.
The edge of his palm was like a sharp edge, and with a flash, he removed the heads of the two bull-horned warriors from their body.
Dark red flames spew out of their necks as they were quickly reduced to ashes. Lin Sheng allowed the two black streaks to enter his body while he made his way toward the throne at the end of the hall.
He had not checked the throne the last time he was there.
“Since it’s a throne, someone should be sitting on it.”
He was not in the mood to farm trash mobs at the moment and only planned to scour the place for anything that was useful to him.
Lin Sheng slowly made his way to the throne.
However, just as he got two-thirds across the hall, something felt wrong. A familiar aura had seemingly begun to resonate from the throne.
*Hiss…*
A shadow slowly solidified on the throne as a massive giant man in menacing black armor materialized from it.
The black armor on his body had spikes that looked like fangs, and in his hand was a black war ax.
Lin Sheng looked over and was quickly attracted by the ax. It was at least three meters long with two faces, and the width of the ax head was the size of a bathtub. It was so wide and thick that it looked more like a hammerhead rather than an ax head.
“A true dragon descendant, huh…” Lin Sheng recognized the aura of his foe. It was a dragonblood aura that was far, far more condensed that his own Crag Dragon bloodline.
