New Staff of S. H. I. E. L. D. - Chapter 458
Chapter 458: Fighting Thousand Troops Alone
Wesley pulled the reins of his horse, and the horse stopped. Wesley looked into the distance and saw Saruman’s army marching out in a neat line on foot. There were ten thousand men, and there was no end to it. There were a hundred thousand men, and they stretched as far as the eye could see.
This was true. The enemy’s Uruk-hai army of more than ten thousand people was indeed imposing. It was a dark mass, but most of them were infantry, which made Wesley very happy. The Uruk-hai’s fast-moving troop, the Wargs, did not appear in the team. They had probably set off first.
“Not a bad formation. It’s a very bad time for me to attack. Let’s attack this army first, and then go to Saruman. The practice of magic needs enough people. Now my affinity with the wind element is still too low.” Wesley sat on the horse and laughed. Then he pulled the horse’s reins and turned away. He would not attack at Isengard’s gate, but he was ready to wait a little earlier.
In the southeast direction, Wesley rode his horse for half a day before starting to camp and rest. It would take at least a day for the other party to advance to this place. He could rest fully and prepare for the first ambush here.
The horse went off on its own in search of grass, while Wesley set up camp, lit a campfire, set up a tent, and then made himself a rich dinner. However, his campfire attracted the attention of a nearby cavalry unit. The sound of thundering hooves came fast. Wesley took one look at it and didn’t pay it any attention. It was the sound of a horse’s hooves, not a mount wolf’s.
There was a cloud of dust, which made Wesley very unhappy. “Are you trying to make me eat dirt?” Wesley asked, looking at them.
“Tell me your name,” the man asked.
“Haha.” Wesley laughed and then stopped talking. The other cavalryman pointed the spear in his hand at Wesley in an instant. Wesley didn’t care, but he continued to work on his food. Elf prepared sausages in a frying pan with oil, and the fragrance kept coming out.
The leading rider jumped off his horse and removed his helmet. Then he said, “We are Rohan’s cavalry. My name is Éomer.”
“Wesley,” Wesley said now.
“Why are you here? This is very close to Isengard. It is not a good place now.” Éomer asked again.
“I’m preparing to ambush the army coming out of Isengard. There are more than ten thousand of them. There are many uruk-hai among them. This is the army sent by Saruman. Their goal is Rohan, but I’m going to keep them here.” Wesley finished and began to enjoy the fried sausage.
“More than 10,000 people?” Éomer was surprised, and their target is their country. “Are you sure what you said is true?”
“What’s in it for me to lie to you?” Wesley asked Éomer.
“I see.” Éomer didn’t care that Wesley wanted to fight alone. It was obviously impossible. He was now anxious to verify the truth of the matter. He got on the horse in a hurry, and Wesley hurriedly protected the food. Dust flew again.
“How rude.” Wesley waited for the dust to settle before he began to enjoy dinner again. His horse ran back after eating and drinking.
Having prepared hot water for himself, Wesley took a hot bath, then changed into clean underwear and crawled into the tent to sleep. However, in the latter half of the night, the rapid sound of hooves made him get up again and walk out of the tent. Éomer’s cavalry was already in front of him.
“Thank you so much for your news. You’d better get out of here. They will arrive here tomorrow morning.” Without waiting for Wesley to answer, Éomer left again. Wesley raised his middle finger at his back and then went back to sleep.
The next morning, after stretching, Wesley got up and prepared breakfast. Then he put on the Elven armor, which was now officially for battle. The leather armor was no longer appropriate. He cleaned up the traces here and mounted his horse. Wesley chose a high ground next to the avenue and immediately waited.
The marching footsteps of the army were neat and heavy. Wesley had the Elven King’s Sword on his left waist and a magic longbow in his hand. He gently squeezed the horse’s belly with his legs and the horse trotted down the slope and stopped on the road, blocking the army’s way alone.
There were still hundreds of yards between them, and Wesley drew back his bowstring. “The spirits of the wind obey my call. I need sharp arrow feathers to pierce the chest of my enemy. I need wind sharpness and speed, arrow of wind.”
The Wind Arrow flew out and covered a distance of hundreds of meters in the blink of an eye, directly piercing the chest of the first uruk-hai. Then, without stopping, the uruk-hai in a straight line was killed and then fell down. This made the army a little confused, but the second arrow had already arrived.
The leader of the 10,000-strong army pushed through the crowd and came to the front. However, he was greeted by an arrow of wind that flew past his ear. He hurriedly roared, “Attack, advance quickly.”
The front line of the army began to push forward quickly. Wesley did not panic at all. He continued to fire arrow after arrow. The Uruk-hai’s armor rattled, and Wesley did not seem to see them running.
Hundreds of orcs had already been killed, and the vanguard was still a hundred meters away from Wesley. At this time, Wesley’s horse slowly began to run. Wesley turned on the horse’s back and rode backward, the magic longbow in his hand constantly being pulled.
“The spirit in the wind obeys my call. I need sharp arrow feathers to pierce the enemy’s chest. I need wind sharpness and speed, wind arrows.” Every time he chanted the elf language, Wesley could feel the wind element in the air getting closer to him. The more times it got closer, the closer it got. And the space gem did not block it, because the wind element would not enter Wesley’s body. It would not become his power, but affinity.
The chanting became faster and faster, and Wesley felt the wind. He was wrapped in it, and his body seemed to be light. The effect was really good. Practice makes perfect. He was happy here, but the Uruk-hai were a little afraid. They couldn’t catch up with Wesley, but Wesley’s attacks kept killing them. Under these circumstances, their numbers were useless.
“Hmph, flying a kite is my favorite,” Wesley said happily. Then he continued with his plan. He would face an army of ten thousand people alone, so as long as he was not surrounded, he could continue.
The leader of the Uruk-hai could see clearly from behind. “Blow the horn and summon the Wolf Riders back.”
“But they might not be able to hear it. They have been gone for too long.”
“Let’s try. We can’t be suppressed here.” The Uruk-hai’s horn sounded. Wesley heard it clearly, but he didn’t know what it meant. Even if he knew, he wouldn’t care. It’s just a mount wolf. He’s really not afraid of these guys.
