The mansion was enormous, its winding corridors seemingly endless.
Su Wanwan had been there twice before, but perhaps out of anger, she had dashed around like a headless fly. By the time she realized something was amiss, she had already lost her way.
After going in circles, she ended up back where she started.
Frowning, she took a closer look at the sign and then proceeded forward.
Unexpectedly, she found herself in a secluded area resembling a bar at a hotel lobby, with a few bustling customers scattered here and there.
Just as Su Wanwan was about to turn and leave, she heard a voice behind her,
” Jingshen, why are you drinking alone?”
It was a woman’s voice.
Sweet and gentle, yet tinged with a hint of arrogance and dominance.
Su Wanwan instantly tensed.
She turned and hid behind a screen, poking her head out to see who it was.
Sitting on a couch in the corner was a man in a white shirt and black trousers, his back to her. No doubt about it, that was Huo Jingshen.
The dim lighting in the alcove cast a mysterious glow on him as he sat there, his back straight, his white shirt immaculate, and even the hair at the back of his head meticulously groomed.
However, sitting across from him was another woman with seductive auburn curls, her off-shoulder black dress accentuating her alluring figure, a languid smile playing on her face.
It was Chu Jingyi, the woman she had bumped into at the school that afternoon! “By the way, you still haven’t told me, why the sudden marriage?”
Upon hearing the question, Su Wanwan felt a tightening in her chest.
Then,
“It was time.” Huo Jingshen replied casually.
Su Wanwan gritted her teeth in annoyance.
It was time?
What kind of answer was that?!
“So, why would you elope with that blonde girl?” Chu Jingyi asked further.
Su Wanwan’s frown deepened.
Blonde girl?
Better a blonde than a damn auburn, surely!
Huo Jingshen did not answer this time.
“Jingshen.” Chu Jingyi sighed suddenly, “What if we were together now, what would it be like?”
Su Wanwan abruptly clenched her hand into a fist.
She held back her breath, but there was no response from Huo Jingshen.
“Ha, if we were together, perhaps by now our kids would be in middle school. I often wonder why fate is such a jester. Do you remember how I once told you, how I wanted a man who was more tender, more understanding than you? Look at what happened, one wrong step and everything went awry.”
Chu Jingyi ended her monologue with a bitter laugh, emptied her glass in one gulp-
Su Wanwan was beginning to understand.
Clearly, these two had reunited after a long separation, and evidently, they were old flames.
The woman seemed to be having marriage troubles?
That damn lecher said he had a business meeting that would last till nine, and what exactly was he up to?
He was clearly making love to his ex-girlfriend here!
Who would have guessed that aside from Fu Qi, he had an ex-girlfriend in hiding. Were there any more? A third one?
A fourth one?
A fifth one…
Suddenly, a familiar ringtone filled the room.
She watched as Huo Jingshen picked up the phone on the table and answered it.
“Grandma?”
“Understood, I’ll bring Ziyang home tomorrow evening.”
“Is that Grandma Huo?” Chu Jingyi asked, her hand reaching out, “Let me say a few words to her.”
Su Wanwan’s eyes widened once again.
Chu Jingyi just took Huo Jingshen’s phone from him without asking, and he simply let her!
Damn it!
That was the phone case she bought for him!
This was infuriating!
She felt like running her nails down a wall!
This was so annoying!
“Grandma Huo, it’s Jingyi. How have you been? Yes, I’ve returned a while ago and I’ve seen Jingshen. Don’t worry, I’ll come and see you and Grandpa Huo these two days.”
Su Wanwan clenched her fists, her fury growing with every word she heard, building up to a point of explosive rage.
Finally, as a waiter happened to pass by, Su Wanwan suddenly reached out and picked up a glass of red wine from his tray.
“Miss, these wines have been just brought out.”
Upon hearing the voice, Huo Jingshen looked up slightly, and then he saw Su Wanwan step come out from behind the screen, a tall glass of red wine in her hand.
Surprise momentarily leaving him without a reaction.
Then,
“Ah!”
Chu Jingyi’s scream tore the silence.
Su Wanwan threw an entire glass of red wine straight onto Huo Jingshen’s face.
All eyes in the room were drawn to the source of the scream.
Huo Jingshen sat still, the contours of his handsome face drenched in wine, his hair soaking wet.
He closed his eyes as the red liquid trickled down his face, over his collarbones, staining his tie and his white shirt which clung wetly to his body.
Chu Jingyi hurriedly offered him some tissue paper.
When she approached him, Huo Jingshen made no attempt to take them.
Instead, he reached for the tissues on the table, delicately wiped the wine stains off his face, remaining calm despite being humiliated in front of everyone, those whispers echoing in the room.
However, Chu Jingyi knew he was livid.
After all, it was a question of a man’s dignity.
