Even though Sun Zhang elected to avoid him, Li Fan was not about to give up that easily.
Considering the reassurance he had offered to Su Changyu previously, Li Fan could at least conclude that the man was not dishonest or cruel. His constant cold demeanor was likely due to his reluctance to entangle himself too much with the mortals living in the Immortal Realm.
Li Fan preferred to deal with people whose backgrounds he had some knowledge of, compared to complete strangers.
So, Li Fan reinforced his resolve and returned to Tianbao Building.
“You again? Are you asking for trouble?” The burly man in black standing at the entrance looked at Li Fan warily, snarling menacingly.
Li Fan gave a slight smile: “I am here to do business with Tianbao Building. If you are so eager to chase people away before even allowing me to speak, is this how Tianbao Building treats its guests?”
Li Fan purposefully raised his voice, attracting the curious gazes of people nearby.
“You…” Enraged, the burly man made to move against Li Fan but was stopped by someone next to him.
After a brief consultation, the burly man, clearly annoyed, escorted Li Fan inside.
Once he had been seated in a guest room, a serving maid brought a cup of tea.
Li Fan took a leisurely sip, and a wave of warmth spread from his stomach throughout his body as the tea descended into his belly.
Within moments, he felt as though he had been basking in the winter sun for a long period, his body was warm and toasty, even hot to the touch.
“Excellent tea!” Li Fan couldn’t help but praise.
“Dayu Flame Dragon, cultivated around the seabed volcanoes surrounding Dayu Island, only has a dozen or so plants in existence. Now that Dayu Island has been destroyed, Dayu Flame Dragon has temporarily become a rarity.” A man with a smile on his face entered, speaking slowly. It was Sun Zhang.
“I am indeed fortunate to have a taste, thanks to Elder Sun.” Li Fan wasted no time and finished the remaining tea in one gulp.
Only after Li Fan had put down his tea cup did Sun Zhang squint his eyes and slowly asked, “With the matter of Da Li resolved, there should be no further issues between us. Why seek me out again?”
Sun Zhang’s tone was very curt, and his gaze contained a hint of murderous intent, as if he would kill Li Fan if his answer wasn’t satisfactory.
Li Fan disregarded Sun Zhang’s intimidation and replied with a smile, “Elder
Sun, you misunderstand. I am indeed here to make a deal.”
“Deal? With you?” Sun Zhang was first taken aback, then burst into a mocking laugh, sizing up Li Fan.
Li Fan’s expression remained unchanged. He said nothing, only smiling in response.
Upon seeing Li Fan’s reaction, Sun Zhang turned more serious: “What kind of deal?”
“I wonder if Tianbao Building would be interested in the quota for a seaborne exploration team.” Li Fan said slowly.
“Every time a ship sets sail, let’s not mention the occasional treasures that can be salvaged. Even the Liuli fish and other sea specialties alone can make a hefty sum. It is impossible that Tianbao Building is not interested,”
“But the control over the quota is firmly in the hands of Manager Qian. Even for Tianbao Building, let alone Manager Zhao, it would be extremely difficult to secure an additional space. You, a newcomer, what sort of means do you have to dare to set your sights on it?” Sun Zhang stared intensely at Li Fan, as if he was trying to discern his thoughts.
“If I could meet with Manager Zhao, I am confident that I can persuade him.” Li Fan responded confidently.
Seeing Li Fan’s assured demeanor, Sun Zhang was momentarily uncertain.
“Let him meet with Manager Zhao then, it’s no big deal. If it fails, we can just chop him to pieces and feed him to the fishes in the sea,” a lazy voice drifted in from outside the room.
Li Fan’s eyes tightened, just as a woman in pale yellow attire wearing a veil walked in.
The woman’s voice sounded like she was in her late teens, but her voluptuously curvaceous figure exuded a seductive maturity.
“Greetings, Madam.” Upon seeing the woman in yellow, Sun Zhang immediately stood up and greeted her respectfully.
“Thank you, Madam.” Li Fan’s expression remained unchanged as he nodded his thanks.
“It looks like you’re quite confident. You do not seem to be making empty promises.” The woman in yellow, seated across Li Fan, tilted her head, looking at him with curiosity.
“I always keep my word.” Li Fan responded with ease.
The woman in yellow chuckled softly.
“If the matter does succeed, Tianbao Building would expect a certain reward.” “According to the rules on the island. each iournev’s earning. I can keeD thirtv percent. I don’t want a single bit of it. Half would go to Manager Zhao, the other half would be given to Tianbao Building.” Li Fan agreed, shocking those present.
The woman in yellow was taken aback.
She examined Li Fan closely one more time: “That’s strange, if that’s the case, what are you going through all this effort for?”
“I only want the quota for the Spirit Cleansing Pond that comes up every three years.” Li Fan admitted openly.
“Eh…” The woman was truly surprised this time, she stared at Li Fan, seemingly wanting to confirm if she had heard correctly.
Li Fan returned her stare, his gaze firm.
“Ha ha ha ha…” The woman in yellow burst into laughter as though she had heard a particularly funny joke.
“Seriously, mister, you’re getting on in years and you still want to cultivate like the others?” After laughing for quite a while, she managed to stop, barely able to utter a sentence before breaking into laughter again.
Looking at Li Fan, Sun Zhang was also filled with disbelief.
Li Fan just quietly watched the woman in yellow, not saying a word.
The woman in yellow’s laughter gradually subsided.
“Ha… ha…
Eventually, she coughed awkwardly and managed to regain her composure.
“To strive for longevity, even in the face of death, there will be no regrets.” Li Fan stated calmly.
The woman in yellow remained silent for a long time.
“Alright, I’ve agreed to this.” Finally, she declared. “When the date has been set, I will send someone to notify you.”
“Very well, that settles it. I live in house number seven on the sixth outer city avenue, you can find me there.” Li Fan gave a slight bow and left.
The room was left with just the woman in yellow and Sun Zhang.
After a long silence, Sun Zhang couldn’t help but speak: “Madam, the quota for the Spirit Cleansing Pond…”
“Although the quota for the Spirit Cleansing Pond is fiercely contested every year on the island, Tianbao Building is not without the power to compete. Moreover, if he really could secure a seaborne exploration team, in about five years or so, the team’s profits would just about make up for the value of a quota. It’s a sure win.” The woman in yellow was dismissive.
“However…” She furrowed her beautiful brows, looking in the direction Li Fan went, talking to herself.
“What?” Sun Zhang couldn’t help but ask.
“That man’s eyes… they were frightening…” The woman in yellow thumped her chest, seemingly shaking from an adrenaline rush.
Sun Zhang was nonplussed.
On the way back, Li Fan stopped by a pharmacy to buy “The Mysterious Yellow Heart-Purifying Mantra” and the corresponding medicinal herbs.
Even if everything went smoothly, there were still two years until the Spirit Cleansing Pond was opened.
He couldn’t afford to waste such a long period of time.
He might as well start cultivating according to “The Mysterious Yellow
Heart-Purifying Mantra” to see the results. It could very well be possible that Li Fan was naturally talented, and he wouldn’t need two years to rid himself of the miasma poisoning his body.
In the days that followed, Li Fan stayed home and dedicated his time to cultivation, waiting for the opportunity to meet Manager Zhao.
Who could have guessed that before he even had the chance to meet Manager Zhao, Li Fan heard some shocking news.
Su Changyu was dead..
