She was collecting information about Jingsheng Enterprise. She was reading his father’s brief introduction.
Why??
His brain went blank for a second and then started to think fast.
Suddenly, a possibility hit his brain.
He felt a bit anxious inside, and a voice kept echoing inside his head, making him want to test his speculation at this very moment.
He left Shangguan Ning’s home immediately, took the elevator up to the 27th floor, strode into his own home and turned on the computer. 4
The e-mail his father Jing Zhongxiu sent to him in the morning was still lying there, innocently.
For a moment, Jing Yichen got a bit scared to open this mail.
But his hands acted faster than his brain. He clicked the mouse and opened the mail. A CV popped up before his eyes.
Shangguan Ning, female, 26 years old. A Doctor with overseas degree from New Zealand, major:…
Jing Yichen was unable to catch any of the remaining contents in the CV. The name “Shangguan Ning” had filled up his sight completely.
He tried hard to calm himself down. A little while ago, he had thought that Shangguan Ning was trying to approach him with some purpose whilst pretending not to know him.
Yet at this moment, it seemed that she really didn’t know who he was.
Too much concern caused too much mess. He had cared so much about her that such a mistake had been made. He had not made such a low-level mistake in a very long time.
He had become used to thinking about the worst side of everyone after fighting in the smokeless battlefield for so long.
Her pure eyes couldn’t lie. Although she had not let him in just now, yet she didn’t prevent him from intruding either.
So she was his father’s spy? Someone his father placed next to him so that he could be supervised and disturbed?
She had just mentioned that she was filling herself with some knowledge. It would have been his father who came up with this idea of placing her next to him. Besides, she couldn’t have known her father well. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have needed to look him up on the internet.
It took only a few minutes for Jing Yichen to sort out the entire thing in his head.
She had been fired by the school and became jobless. With some unknown contact she managed to enter Jingsheng Enterprise.
He would still need to verify her relationship with his father.
Jing Yichen folded up the laptop, adjusted the creaseless shirt and came back to the sixth floor.
On the 6th floor, Shangguan Ning was boiling water for tea in the kitchen and when she came to the living room with the tray, she found that the unexpected guest had just disappeared.
The room was empty, the newspapers and magazines were still lying in a mess over the table. It looked as if he had never been here.
Shangguan Ning blinked hard, hoping that what she saw just now hadn’t been an illusion.
“Ding…”
The ringing sound of the doorbell brought the self-doubting Shangguan Ning back to Earth. She got even more confused when she opened the door and saw the man standing outside the door.
“Why… are you outside?” Actually, what she meant to say was –”why are you acting like a swift shadow!”
Jing Yingchen found her lovely, seeing her white hands holding the exquisite dark-red enameled teapot and her eyes sparkling with apparent confusion.
His heart softened, and he felt guilty for having made a big fuss a few minutes ago. He had been cheated too many times for him to even remember what trust was like. 1
He took the teapot from her hand smoothly and whispered, “Careful. It is hot.”
Shangguan Ning almost lost her defence against Jing Yichen’s low, musical voice. She couldn’t help but hand over the teapot.
She didn’t come back to her senses until Jing Yichen walked past her. It seemed that something was wrong. She had never been a confused person and always had her own opinions about things. She was hardly controlled by anyone. She was a determined person and never doubted herself.
However, she became more and more self-doubting after knowing Jing Yichen. Was it because he was too smart for her to catch up?
But she was smart too. 1
Her mind would get completely scattered if it went on like this.
Baffled, Shangguan Ning came to the living room and watched Jing Yichen make the tea. He was proficient at the process of washing and pouring the tea.
He had a handsome face and elegant charisma. He handled the tea making process, skillfully and smoothly. The vapours of tea were creating a water-ink painting of him, one that was pleasing to the eyes.
She shook her head, wiped the image from a moment ago off her brain and started to put away the things on the table.
Jing Yichen asked in a careless tone, “What are you reading about?”
“Information about Jingsheng Enterprise.” Shangguan Ning waved the newspapers in hand and answered without thinking.
Jing Yichen’s heart twitched. He asked again in a low voice. “Why are you filling yourself up with information about Jingsheng Enterprise?”
Shangguan Ning put away the paper and stuff, and answered happily without knowing that he was trying to extract a secret out of her. “Oh, I just remembered that I haven’t told you about this. I will start to work at Jingsheng Enterprise next Monday. Everyone there is quite capable. I haven’t got any working experience so I have to take this last-minute opportunity to read more about the enterprise.”
Jing Yichen took a sip at the fresh and sweet Longjing Tea leisurely and said without much expression, “I have a friend who is working there. Maybe he can watch out for you.”
Shangguan Ning got so pleased. A pie had just fallen from the sky for her hungry stomach.
“Oh really? That would be great. I am quite nervous as a newbie, because I know no one there!” Happily, she started to pour the tea for Jing Yichen.
Sitting on the soft sofa comfortably, Jing Yichen was happy being served by this beauty whilst trying to lead her to talk about what he wanted to know.
“What is your position? Is it in line with your professional skill?”
Shangguan Ning hesitated for a moment and decided to tell the truth. Anyways, Jing Yichen’s friend would surely get to know what her position was after she started the work. Hiding the truth didn’t help. Instead, it might lose others’ trust of her.
“I will be the assistant to the President of Jingsheng Enterprise. Not quite in line with my professional skills. That is why I am worried.”
“As far as I know, only people with rich working experience are able to become an assistant to the President. You are indeed a bit inexperienced.” Jing Yichen said.
Then he smiled and said in a friendly way, “Seems that both you and my friend would find this common between you.”
Jing Yichen sounded quite relaxed as if he found it a common thing.
But Shangguan Ning didn’t sound relieved at all.
He had known everything about her after exchanging a few words. That made her a bit scared and astonished.
The reason why she was able to sit here calmly was only because her instinct was telling her that he didn’t mean any harm.
But she didn’t want anyone else to know that she had entered Jingsheng Enterprise because of her uncle. She wasn’t afraid of any rumor about her behind her back. But she was worried that her aunt would try various methods to ruin everything as soon as she knew about it.
Shangguan Ning didn’t say anything. She smiled slightly, took the tea cup and started to drink.
Seeing her remain silent, Jing Yichen knew that he had got it right – his father had stuffed her to his side to do someone else a favor. 1
