My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 66
Chapter 66 Couldn’t Stop Worrying
Mu Yu saw a bundle of lifeline made of steel wire.
Back then, when Xin Yihan was helping her with her studies, he had also taught her a lot about safety precautions. She had then shared those with her parents. At her insistence, her parents bought an entire set of home fire safety equipment, such as lifeline, fire extinguisher, glare flashlight, and safety hammer in case of any contingencies. She didn’t expect her parents to bring it along with them despite moving into a new home.
After locking the door from inside the room, Mu Yu took the lifeline with her. She set up the tripod stand in its position, fastened the safety belt on herself and hung it by the hook. After wearing her slip-proof gloves, she opened the windows, and felt a sudden surge of dizziness washed over her as she leaned over to look out of the window.
This was the tenth floor.
If anyone were to fall from here, they would be a goner.
Her father had bought this fire rescue lifeline from his friend who was working in the fire department. The rope was very sturdy and strong. As long as countermeasures were taken, nothing bad would happen. She comforted herself with such logical thoughts.
After carefully checking the lifeline once again and making sure that nothing was wrong, she took a couple of deep breaths, and climbed out of the window sill. Clenching her teeth, she started to slowly slide down. At the same time, she tried to listen carefully to her surroundings, as she was worried that someone would mistake her for a thief. However, she was lucky; the sky was already dark, so most of the people were busy preparing dinner, and didn’t notice a ‘spider woman’ outside their windows.
The way down was daunting, but not too dangerous, and she soon reached the ground. After untying herself, she quickly ran out of the neighbourhood, afraid that her parents would find out about her escape, and drag her back home.
As soon as she got into a taxi, she called Wen Zeyu’s number again, only to learn that Qin Jinhuan had already gone home with him. After asking for his address, she rushed straight to Wen Zeyu’s house.
“Huan, are you alright?” Once she entered the house, she saw Qin Jinhuan sitting on the sofa, with his hands holding his head. Mu Yu ran toward him worriedly, and asked about his condition.
“There’s no way he’s alright!” Wen Zeyu answered indignantly. “Those b*stards! Now that he is no longer in a position of power, they turned their backs right under our noses!”
Mu Yu was heartbroken after hearing what he said. Concerned, she asked, “Has Qin Wentao already taken over the CEO position?”
“As of now, he is just the acting CEO, but it is similar to taking over the position of CEO. Oh man. That old man is indeed foolish. He gave the leadership rights of the Qing Tian Group to Qin Wentao just to get back at Huan. The future of Qing Tian Group is indeed worrisome.”
“Although Qin Wentao has become the acting CEO, the final decision is still in Grandpa’s hands. If he apologizes to Grandpa, maybe…” Mu Yu paused as she looked at Wen Zeyu.
Wen Zeyu understood what she meant, and helplessly shook his head. “You think I didn’t try persuading him? He wouldn’t budge! This guy is as stubborn as an ox! He would rather suffer mistreatment than giving in.”
Mu Yu was instantly desperate. Anxious, she shoved Qin Jinhuan and advised him, “Huan, a great man knows when to yield and when not to. You…”
“That’s enough! Whoever speaks another word about this in front of me shall leave!”
“Huan…”
“Mu Yu!” Wen Zeyu pulled Mu Yu away lightly, as he gave her a look and mouthed, “Just leave him alone.”
Mu Yu understood and got onto her feet. She then followed Wen Zeyu into the study room.
After Wen Zeyu closed the door, he murmured, “Sis-in-law, Rong Jian had gone to look for Grandpa, but I don’t think it’s going to work.”
“Why so?”
“Can’t you see that Grandpa is serious this time? Moreover, both of them are just as stubborn; Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun have used this as an advantage to succeed! Oh man. You don’t even know how much glory this couple is basking in now! Everyone in the company is looking up to them.”
Mu Yu asked, “You and Huan have been working for the company for so many years. Don’t you have your own connections?”
“Of course we do! But our connections aren’t as strong as Grandpa’s! If it wasn’t for Grandpa granting Qin Wentao his full support, how would Qin Wentao dare mock Huan in the company?”
Mu Yu was furious when she heard it. “Since Grandpa has made his stance clear, why did you still go to the company with Huan? Weren’t you just bringing disgrace onto yourselves?”
“It’s all because Huan couldn’t bear giving up the billions worth of projects that he had spent countless efforts to build around Phoenix Gully. It was the painstaking hard work of his and his team for a year. Currently, Grandpa wants to sell it all to Yuchi Industry— that Huan despises—at a low price. Huan’s frustration is justified; even I find this to be unacceptable.”
Looking at Mu Yu’s confused face, Wen Zeyu patiently explained to her about the development projects that Qin Jinhuan had led surrounding Phoenix Gully. When he finished, he sighed deeply again. “After this big fall, only did we realize how arrogant we were.”
Mu Yu was very surprised. “Why would he insist on selling those estates to the Yuchi Industry at a low price? Can’t he keep it for his own development?”
“Those estates were based on the Ecological Tourism Project of Phoenix Gully. Phoenix Gully is the most important link to the industries. It would be really hard if we try to develop the economy of that land without relying on it. Of course, it doesn’t mean that it would be entirely impossible, but there would be risks that we have to undertake. In order to minimize the loss of the company, Huan went to the company to talk to his Grandpa and give him suggestions this afternoon, but not only did his grandpa refuse to listen to anything he said, he even chased Huan out. After that, I sent someone to do some inquiries, and it turns out that it was Qin Wentao’s idea to sell the projects around Phoenix Gully at a low price! Since everything has come to this, I refuse to believe that Qin Wentao didn’t collude with Yi Yunzhe.”
When Mu Yu was about to answer him, someone knocked on the door. When both of them turned around, Rong Jian had already opened the door and entered the room.
“What did Grandpa say?” Although he was mentally prepared, Wen Zeyu still couldn’t help but hope for the best.
Rong Jian closed the door behind him and shook his head. “I didn’t even have the chance to speak, and Grandpa had already cut me off. Looks like Qin Wentao has fed him loads of bullsh*t.”
Frustrated, Mu Yu said angrily, “Since Grandpa is going to be so harsh, then there’s no need for us to worry about Qing Tian Group!”
Wen Zeyu said unwillingly, “Grandpa is not the only one who made Qing Tian Group what it is today. Most of the credit goes to Huan instead! How can they kick Huan out of the game just like that?”
Rong Jian helplessly said, “You cannot take this out on others. You can only blame him for being overconfident and arrogant. He has to learn from his own mistakes. If he has the chance to rise again in the future, he must keep that in mind.”
“Rise again? That’s easier said than done!” Wen Zeyu heaved a long sigh. “Grandpa and Yi Yunzhe wouldn’t allow Huan to have that kind of opportunity, but that’s beside the point. Huan would need funding to start another business again even if they don’t bother to sabotage Huan.”
“As long as he’s confident, there’ll always be an opportunity.” Rong Jian was quite optimistic. “Alright, we’ll talk about opportunities later. For now, the most important thing is to make sure that Huan is alright. I don’t wish to see him so dispirited.”
Wen Zeyu nodded and turned around to open the door. Rong Jian followed suit, leaving Mu Yu alone in the room staring blankly at nothing in particular.
When had she ever wanted to see Qin Jinhuan in such a demoralized state? But it seemed like there wasn’t anything that she could help out with.
Oh dear…
Her phone rang, and she saw that it was a call from her mother. She couldn’t help but feel nervous, as she knew that her mother already found out about her escape. After hesitating for a while, she decided to answer the call, because she didn’t dare ignore her mother’s calls.
“Yu?”
“Mom,” she answered meekly.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.”
“Where are you?”
Mu Yu was secretly relieved upon hearing her mother’s calm voice, and replied lightly, “I am at a friend’s house.”
“Is Young Master Qin there too?”
Not knowing what her mother meant, Mu Yu didn’t dare to answer carelessly.
At this time, her father’s voice rang through the phone, “Yu, your mom and I had given it a thought this afternoon. We think that our previous mindset wasn’t right. We want to see Young Master Qin too. His current situation isn’t really that good, is it? We want to see if there’s anything we can do to help.”
“Yes, yes, yes. No matter what happens, you have gone such a long way with him. It would be ridiculous if we forcefully break up the both of you again.”
Mu Yu was delighted, as she didn’t expect the sudden change of her parents’ attitude. She immediately sent them the location of Wen Zeyu’s house through WeChat. Her mood instantly became lighter. However, as soon as she came out of the room, she was greeted by Qin Jinhuan’s distressed face, which then reverted her mood into a sombre one.
Rong Jian and Wen Zeyu were sitting beside Qin Jinhuan, talking to him. When they saw her, they moved aside subconsciously. For the first time ever, Mu Yu didn’t feel embarrassed, and directly went to sit next to Qin Jinhuan. However, Qin Jinhuan was the one who gave her a surprised look. She returned his gaze with a smile, but there was guilt and pain in her eyes.
“It’s fine,” Qin Jinhuan whispered to her. Then, he resumed his conversation with Rong Jian and Wen Zeyu.
These two words made Mu Yu ache for him, but it felt heartwarming at the same time. Not only did he not blame her, he even comforted her. Did that mean somewhere deep down his heart, there was a certain spot for her?
She suddenly felt like she was more willing to be close to him, now that his status had been stripped off of him.
“Yu? Yu?”
Her mother’s shouts interrupted her thoughts. She quickly got onto her feet, and walked out of the house while answering her shouts.
“You bloody girl, how dare you jump down from the tenth floor? Aren’t you afraid of dying?” Hu Meiling grabbed her arms as soon as she saw her, and went into Mama Bear mode.
“The tenth floor?”
Everyone was stunned when they heard this. Qin Jinhuan immediately rushed to her, and grabbed her arm as he nervously examined her from head to toe.
Mu Yu hurriedly explained, “I didn’t jump off the tenth floor. I slid down using the lifeline.”
“Isn’t it just as dangerous?” Hu Meiling scolded her. Then, she turned to Qin Jinhuan and explained with a smile on her face, “Young Master Qin, I have to take Yu to the hospital for a checkup. We only have one daughter, and can’t afford to let anything happen to her.”
“Mom…”
“Yu, your mother was so shocked that her blood pressure shot up. Let us bring her to the hospital so the doctor can have a look at her as well.”
Of course, Mu Yu knew that her father was only trying to frighten her. Initially, she wanted to argue with them. But when something flashed through her mind, she instantly changed her decision. After bidding Qin Jinhuan and the others goodbye, she returned home with her parents.
Upon returning home, it was impossible for her to avoid another lecture by her parents. This time, she didn’t talk back and just lowered her head, agreeing with everything they said.
Mu Ziyao softened his attitude when he saw his daughter behaving that way. After stopping his chattering wife, he brought his daughter some food.
Mu Yu, who had no appetite, forced herself to finish half a bowl of rice cheerfully, then excused herself, saying that she was too tired and needed to rest.
“Let me go and make the bed for you.” Hu Meiling immediately stood up.
“Mom, I’m too tired. I can’t wait any longer, so I’ll sleep in your room for a while first.” After she finished, Mu Yu went straight into the master bedroom, and went to bed, not caring whether her mother was going to agree.
“Let her sleep. We will discuss about her surgery tomorrow.”
“Okay. Don’t let her run out of the house again.” Under the blanket, Mu Yu heard her parents’ conversation, and smiled bitterly.
At midnight, when there was no longer any sound outside, Mu Yu crawled up quietly. She used her phone as a flashlight, and started to look through the cupboard drawers.
