Chapter 320 The Father Is to Blame for His Son’s Faults
When Qin Jinhuan arrived at the hospital, Qin Xiaozhi had already been rushed into the emergency room. Shortly after that, Mu Yu, Rong Jian, and Wen Zeyu, who had heard about what happened, arrived at the hospital one after another. “How is Grandpa?” they worriedly asked Qin Jinhuan since he had been the first one to arrive.
Qin Chengxi, who had sent Qin Xiaozhi to the hospital with Lei Zhi and the others, sobbingly answered on Qin Jinhuan’s behalf, “Grandpa isn’t in good condition. He was still unconscious when he was rushed into the emergency room.”
Wen Zeyu expressed his surprise and said, “It’s only been a few days since I last went back to visit Grandpa. How did his illness become so serious all of a sudden?”
“Grandpa’s illness didn’t become so serious all of a sudden. In reality, Grandpa has been in poor health these days; he just didn’t allow us to talk about it,” Qin Chengxi explained before wiping her tears away.
Mu Yu put her arm around Qin Chengxi’s shoulder and wept with her. She knew a little about Qin Xiaozhi’s condition, so she wasn’t as surprised as Wen Zeyu and Rong Jian. Instead, she expressed her worry in silence. On the other hand, Qin Jinhuan said nothing the whole time. He merely stood outside the emergency room with his eyes fixed on the door, seeming as though his eyes could penetrate the door and see his grandfather’s condition inside.
Just then, Shang Qi arrived. After handing Qin Chengxi over to him, Mu Yu walked up to Qin Jinhuan and gently held his hand. The man glanced sideways at her, said nothing, and withdrew his gaze; he merely held her hand back subconsciously and let out a soft sigh.
“Grandpa will certainly be fine!” Mu Yu comforted him in a low voice. In reality, she was comforting herself as well.
Perhaps because Qin Jinhuan’s heavy heart infected everyone, no one spoke for a moment. They were either standing or sitting, but their eyes were fixed on the emergency room’s door as they silently prayed for Qin Xiaozhi to be okay. After so much time had passed that everyone almost couldn’t endure it any longer, the door to the emergency room finally opened. Everyone immediately surrounded the doctor, and their looks of anticipation instantly turned into those of panic as they looked at the doctor in trepidation.
“Old Master Qin is out of danger,” the doctor said. Everyone was instantly relieved at the doctor’s words, but the latter immediately continued, “However, his condition still doesn’t look too good, so he needs to be hospitalized for observation and treatment. Director Rong has arranged a VIP ward for him, so we’re sending him to the VIP ward for a rest right now.”
While the doctor was speaking, the medical staff inside the emergency room wheeled Qin Xiaozhi out on a gurney, preparing to send him right away to the VIP ward arranged by Rong Ying. Seeing how Qin Xiaozhi lay motionless on the gurney, Qin Chengxi grabbed the doctor in fear and asked anxiously, “Didn’t you say that Grandpa’s already out of danger? Why is he still unconscious, though?”
Rong Ying happened to come out at that moment. Upon hearing Qin Chengxi’s words, she explained, “Actually, Grandpa regained consciousness when he was rushed into the emergency room, but we couldn’t give him proper treatment because he refused to cooperate when we asked him about the cause of his illness. Therefore, we had no choice but to hypnotize him. Right now, he’s not unconscious—he’s just in a deep sleep.”
“I see.” Only then did Qin Chengxi feel relieved. However, no sooner had she felt relieved that Qin Jinhuan asked, “Have you found out the cause of Grandpa’s illness after hypnotizing him?”
Rong Ying nodded slightly. “Grandpa is getting old, and so many things have happened to Qing Tian Group recently. His health has declined as he’s been too worried, but you all should just be rest assured. He’ll slowly get better over time as long as he has a good rest.”
“That’s good.” Wen Zeyu was the first to breathe a sigh of relief, though he blamed himself somewhat. “Since I began managing Hui Ming Group, I have been so tied up with work that I have no time to care about Qing Tian Group, and I haven’t been able to visit Grandpa for some time either. He brought me up single-handedly, after all; both he and Qing Tian Group need me very much now, yet I don’t have the energy to share his worries. I’m so unfilial.”
His words reduced Qin Chengxi to tears. “I stay by Grandpa’s side every day, but I haven’t taken good care of him either. I should be blamed for being unfilial.”
“Why do you keep taking all the responsibility upon yourself, you silly girl? You have nothing to do with this; it’s mostly because Grandpa is too worried about the company,” Rong Ying came up and comforted Qin Chengxi. “All right, don’t cry anymore. Please rest assured that I will take good care of Grandpa.”
Standing next to Qin Chengxi, Shang Qi also comforted her repeatedly in a soft voice. However, it wasn’t until she saw Mu Yu coming over as well that Qin Chengxi’s crying voice died down.
Just then, Rong Jian asked, “Can we go to Grandpa’s ward to visit him?”
“Grandpa needs to rest right now,” Rong Ying refused with a wave of her hand. “You’d better not disturb him. Just go ahead with your business, and I’ll call everyone over to visit him when he gets better.”
“But—”
Rong Ying cut Rong Jian short impatiently. “If you really care about Grandpa, just hurry up and solve the perverted murders as soon as possible. Once the cases are solved, Qing Tian Group’s crisis will be over, and Grandpa will naturally recover.”
Rong Jian was instantly speechless as Rong Ying told him off.
“All right, you all may leave now. I’m going to the ward to see Grandpa, and I’ll update you all if anything happens,” Rong Ying said. Then, she ignored them and went straight to the other side of the corridor.
Qin Jinhuan immediately went after her.
“Hey! Huan! I—” said Mu Yu.
Qin Jinhuan paused. “You should either go to work with Rong Jian or go home with Xi to take a rest. It’s not necessary to have too many people around since I’m already here.”
“All right.” Mu Yu thought for a moment before turning to look at Rong Jian. “I’ll go to work with Chief Rong then.”
Qin Jinhuan nodded and glanced at Rong Jian. Then, he went straight in the direction Rong Ying left without saying anything else.
Wen Zeyu then glanced at his watch, cast his eyes over everyone, and then said, “I still have work to do at the company, so I’ll be leaving first as well.” With that, everyone went their separate ways.
Meanwhile, Qin Jinhuan quickened his pace and caught up with Rong Ying, who was surprised to see him when she looked back. Thinking that he couldn’t set his mind at ease with her taking care of Qin Xiaozhi, she hurriedly tried to dissuade him by saying, “Huan, I know that too many things have happened at your company recently. Just rest assured and let me take care of Grandpa.”
However, Qin Jinhuan asked, “Grandpa isn’t worried about Qing Tian Group at all. He’s worried about that disappointing son of his, am I right?”
Since she hadn’t expected Qin Jinhuan to suddenly ask such a question, Rong Ying was startled at first. Then, she replied vaguely with a forced laugh, “That’s not the case. Grandpa is worried about both.”
Qin Jinhuan looked like he didn’t believe her words, though. “He managed Qing Tian Group for decades. Are there any trials or hardships that he hasn’t experienced? If such a trivial matter could worry him so much to the point of becoming ill, he wouldn’t be Qin Xiaozhi.”
“Grandpa is old now, so he definitely cannot take things as well as he used to back then.”
“You’ve learned to lie to me.” Qin Jinhuan glanced askance at Rong Ying.
Upon noticing the distrust in Qin Jinhuan’s eyes, Rong Ying involuntarily panicked deep down inside. With an embarrassed smile, she changed her story and explained, “Indeed, Grandpa fell ill this time not because he was worried about Qing Tian Group’s present condition. However, isn’t it normal for a parent to be worried about his son?”
As expected, it’s exactly as I have thought, Qin Jinhuan thought to himself. He let out a cold snort and said, “Why should he keep thinking about such a disappointing son? He should have strangled him to death the instant the latter was born so that he didn’t become a scourge.”
Rong Ying found Qin Jinhuan’s words amusing. “He’s your father no matter what, you know. How could you exist without him?”
The corner of Qin Jinhuan’s mouth twitched. He didn’t answer her, but his eyes were full of disdain.
Meanwhile, Qin Xiaozhi’s ward was ahead of them. When they were about ten meters away from the ward, Rong Ying stopped and looked at Qin Jinhuan with a sigh. “In reality, Huan, Grandpa has always been worried about Qin Wentao—the man is leading a wandering life outside. Whenever I examined his health, he would talk about Qin Wentao in front of me. Qin Wentao is his own flesh and blood, after all.”
Qin Jinhuan looked chilling. “He values kinship beyond everything else, but other people might not take it seriously.”
“Qin Wentao never took Grandpa’s kindness to him seriously, yet Grandpa is someone who sets great value on kinship. That’s precisely why I feel sorry for him, and I think it isn’t worth his while to do so,” Rong Ying said with a choke in her voice. “Grandpa couldn’t help but wipe his tears and blame himself whenever he mentioned to me how obedient Qin Wentao had been as a child. He even said that a father is to blame for his son’s faults, and that it was completely his fault that Qin Wentao turned out the way he was. He even said it is karma and God’s punishment that you and your father have become enemies, forcing him to be separated from his son. Whenever he says that, I can’t believe that the person sitting in front of me is Grandpa, a well-known figure in An City for having once been all-powerful. He’s only an old man who’s slowly getting old in his twilight years.”
Rong Ying’s words were moving, but Qin Jinhuan was still expressionless, and his voice still had no warmth to it. “He’s right. He only has himself to blame!”
Upon hearing this, Rong Ying got somewhat anxious. “You mustn’t speak of Grandpa in such a manner, Huan! In reality, you’re the dearest person to him! He misses his son so much, yet he never thought of summoning his son back to An City. That’s because he is worried that Dong Yueyun will step up her efforts to sow discord between you and your father after their return because of Dong Wanqing’s death. You’re the one Grandpa cares more about, after all. He’ll certainly die of grief if he hears what you said.”
“I’m just telling the truth as it is,” Qin Jinhuan said as he walked on.
Rong Ying was stunned for a moment. Then, she caught up with him until they arrived at Qin Xiaozhi’s ward.
Qi Hao and Qi Han had been keeping watch outside the ward. When the twins saw Qin Jinhuan and Rong Ying coming, they hurriedly came up and greeted them.
Qin Jinhuan immediately waved his hand and signaled the twins to stay silent. At the same time, he nervously looked into the ward through the observation window; his expression didn’t ease until he saw that there was no movement in the ward.
Rong Ying was pleased upon seeing his demeanor, but she didn’t dare to let her happiness show on her face. After all, she feared that she might scare Qin Jinhuan’s care for Qin Xiaozhi away in a moment of carelessness.
On the other hand, Qin Jinhuan had already withdrawn his gaze. “Take good care of him,” he said impassively to the twins before turning around.
Rong Ying went after him. “Where are you going, Huan?”
“I’m going back to the company.” Qin Jinhuan left Rong Ying with a view of his back without stopping or looking back.
“I see.” Rong Ying paused and silently saw him off.
Meanwhile, Bian Zijun had been following Qin Jinhuan the whole time. After entering the elevator, he saw that there was no one else in it. Only then did he whisper, “The property owners’ meeting has ended, Boss.”
Qin Jinhuan’s face instantly took on a grave expression. “How did the meeting go?”
Bian Zijun looked excited. “It was very successful. So far, only less than ten property owners still insist on withdrawing their ownership. These specific property owners were probably sent by Springtime Woods to instigate the other property owners to withdraw their ownership, so Weng Yun is investigating them as we speak.”
A trace of a smile showed in Qin Jinhuan’s eyes. “It seems that Chenyu isn’t only an expert at business negotiations.”
“Boss, actually—” Bian Zijun replied, but Qin Jinhuan’s phone happened to ring. He could only button his lip, intending to continue his sentence a while later.
Qin Jinhuan took out his phone. Upon seeing that it was a call from Chao Chenyu, he reckoned that the latter had called him to claim the credit, and he crinkled his eyes in a smile. He soon answered the phone, but before he could speak, Chao Chenyu’s deep voice was heard apologizing over the phone. “I’m sorry, Boss. I’ve failed to live up to the great trust that you have placed in me.”
Qin Jinhuan was instantly startled. Did something unexpected happen again?!
