My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 312
Chapter 312 This Woman’s a Real Mess
“I didn’t kill Dacheng!” Tian Maocai looked at Rong Jian frantically. “I really didn’t kill him, Chief Rong!”
“People with a clear conscience don’t have to worry about this.” Rong Jian didn’t answer his question directly, instead gesturing for him to take a seat and slowly explain himself.
However, Tian Maocai didn’t sit down. He wiped the sweat off his forehead and explained nervously, “Chief, I did dislike Dacheng’s laziness, and Xiaoyu did give him plenty of money to cover his expenses, but he’s still my brother-in-law regardless of everything! No matter how bad things are, it wouldn’t have been enough reason for me to kill him! Those who kill will have to pay with their own lives!”
“If you didn’t kill him, why did you two try to make your alibis match up with each other? Are you saying that your wife killed him?!”
No one had expected Wu Xing to suddenly cut in with that question. Tian Maocai’s face, which was already red with his emotions, instantly turned an ugly maroon. Soon, he ended up stuttering.
“No, no, no! Xiaoyu d-didn’t kill anyone, and we weren’t colluding with each other.” Tian Maocai wiped his sweat away again, a fearful expression on his face.
“Well then, what were you guys talking about in the dorm when you nattered away for the whole day? You better not tell me that it’s because you felt worried about your wife. If you really cared for her, you wouldn’t have gone to the quarry last night for that shift!”
“I-I couldn’t change the shifts! I’m the head of the quarry, and it’s my responsibility to show up for my shifts!”
“You couldn’t have swapped shifts?” Wu Xing looked at him with a pointed look, seeming as though he had seen through Tian Maocai’s bluff. “There should at least be five or six families living by the quarry, right?”
“T-They have their own families to tend to. It’s not a convenient time for them to take that shift.” He probably realized that his excuse was a little half-baked, but Tian Maocai froze right after he finished saying that.
Wu Xing tapped the table with the pen he had been using to record Tian Maocai’s statement, signaling for the latter to look at him. “Mr. Tian, let’s get to the point already. There’s no use in going around in circles. You’re just wasting everyone’s time.”
“I’m not going around in circles, and I’m not—”
“Were you at work the night before too?”
Tian Maocai’s expression took a drastic turn for the worse when Rong Jian suddenly asked him that. He frantically explained, “I didn’t kill Dacheng! I swear that I didn’t kill him!”
“We didn’t even say that you killed him, so why are you acting like you’re guilty?” Wu Xing questioned.
“I’m not acting like I’m guilty. I just… The thing is…”
“That’s enough!” Rong Jian barked out in a low voice. “Mr. Tian, please tell us the truth! Cooperate with the police!”
“I-I’m cooperating! I…” Sweat streamed down Tian Maocai’s back when he noticed everyone staring at him. At the same time, both of his legs were trembling.
Mu Yu also thought that he was close to collapsing, so she quickly pushed a chair over to him.
Tian Maocai did not sit on the offered chair, though. Instead, he crouched down and buried his face in his knees while planting his hands deep into his head full of hair.
Rong Jian, Mu Yu, and Wu Xing all exchanged looks with each other without making a sound. Instead, they quietly waited for Tian Maocai to speak.
“I wasn’t working at the quarry the night before.” Tian Maocai had only just begun to speak with fear in his voice when he frantically elaborated, “But I didn’t kill Dacheng either!”
“Where were you the night before?” Wu Xing asked as he wrote everything down.
“On that night, I was… I was at…”
Tian Maocai’s difficulty forming an answer made Rong Jian think of Jiao. He tested the waters and asked, “Did you go to a hair salon?”
“No.”
“A foot spa?” Wu Xing asked.
“No.”
Rong Jian’s patience reached the end of its rope. “Since you weren’t at any of those places, why can’t you answer?”
“Perhaps you were out cheating on your wife?” Wu Xing teased as he spun his pen.
Tian Maocai’s entire body shuddered for a moment, but he didn’t deny it.
Wu Xing immediately smiled. “You were actually cheating on your wife. You had the guts to do that, but not the guts to admit it?”
“No, I…”
“Talk. What on earth is going on?” Rong Jian’s impatience was written all over his face. “Of course, we will take you back to the police station to interrogate you if you aren’t willing to talk here.”
“No, don’t! I’ll talk! I’ll talk! It’s just…” Tian Maocai slowly stood up, a pleading expression on his face as he looked around. “Chief Rong, if I tell you where I was, can you help me keep it a secret?”
“We can do that.”
Wu Xing immediately followed up Rong Jian’s words teasingly and asked, “Were you having an affair with your own aunt?”
Tian Maocai grinned awkwardly. “It’s not my aunt, and I don’t have one. I spent the entire night before yesterday at Xiaotao’s home. She lives to the south of the quarry, by the entrance of Chen Village.”
“Xiaotao?” Rong Jian asked.
Tian Maocai nodded with an embarrassed smile on his face. “Xiaotao is the wife of Group 1’s leader—Chen Xijin. Chen Xijin was working at the quarry the night before yesterday.”
Thump! Wu Xing flung his pen onto the table. “What the f*ck?! So you used your job to cuck your coworker! No wonder you were waffling forever earlier without even saying anything useful! You were afraid of the guy finding out once you said that!”
“I’m not afraid of Chen Xijin finding out about it. I’m afraid that—”
Rong Jian cut in. “You’re afraid of getting fired, aren’t you? You just broke your CEO’s taboo.”
Due to his mother’s death, Qin Jinhuan especially hated employees who got tangled up in extramarital relationships—that was why the company had such a rule. People like Tian Maocai who cheated with a coworker’s wife were even worse, and Rong Jian knew about this rule.
He had only just spoken when Tian Maocai fell to his knees with a thump before him, tears streaming down his face. “Please spare me this once, Chief Rong. I won’t forget the kindness you show me! I only got to my current position after toiling and slaving for over ten years. I still have two children who haven’t graduated from university yet, and I still have to pay off the mortgage on my two houses. I don’t have any other useful skills, so I can’t lose this job!”
Wu Xing looked at Tian Maocai in disgruntlement as Rong Jian helped him up. “Why did you do it if you knew the consequences anyway?”
Tian Maocai sat down haggardly as he let out a sigh. “I wasn’t in my right mind when I fell for Xiaotao’s temptation!”
“What the hell? Pushing all the responsibility onto the woman? Are you even a man?” Wu Xing bit out before he grinned and jested, “This Xiaotao has to be a young wife, huh?”
“She’s not exactly that young. She’s the same age as Xiaoyu,” Tian Maocai answered honestly.
“In that case, she’s got to be more beautiful than Xiaoyu.” Because he had seen Qian Xiaoyu before, who was well put-together with pretty features, Wu Xing imagined her as he said that.
Tian Maocai’s smile was sheepish. “She’s not as good-looking as Xiaoyu either.”
Wu Xing’s eyes widened. “Is it purely because the grass is greener on the other side? You didn’t hit your head, did you?”
Tian Maocai was panicked at that, and he blurted out, “Xiaotao was willing to give me head!”
He only realized the sheer inappropriateness after the matter. Instantly, he was beside himself with embarrassment.
By then, Wu Xing was already guffawing. “You cheated on your wife because she didn’t want to give you head? Could she be reluctant to do so because you aren’t great in bed?”
“Ahem!” Rong Jian coughed lightly, reminding Wu Xing to watch his language.
It was only then did Wu Xing notice that Mu Yu was still present. He drew his head back and grinned at Mu Yu before falling silent.
Although she felt awkward, Mu Yu still did her best to look like she was unbothered by this discussion since she was already married. This time, she continued Wu Xing’s questioning and asked, “Does your wife know that you’re cheating on her with another woman?”
“Yes.”
“Did it affect the relationship between you two?”
“No. Our relationship…” Tian Maocai fell silent for a bit before he gathered the courage to continue talking. “Our relationship didn’t go downhill because of my affair with Xiaotao. I only turned to Xiaotao because our relationship went sour.”
He let out a long sigh before he continued to explain, “Now that I’m already talking about this, I should just forget about my pride. I’m not going to lie to you—ten years ago, my kidneys began deteriorating, and I began to be unable to satisfy Xiaoyu. She has strong needs when it comes to that. No matter how I tried, I couldn’t satisfy her. Every night, I would have to put up with her grumbling. I felt that my insides were about to be completely scooped out. I was terrified of dying because of our activities, and I began to fear our bedtime routine. As such, I deliberately distanced myself from her, finding excuses to stay at the quarry to keep working. At that time, she hadn’t started working at the quarry yet. She knew why I was doing that, and she was especially furious about it. Every time she saw me, she would aim for everything close to my heart, cursing me out for being useless, worthless, and impotent. She liked watching adult videos, especially the ones with European men in them. Every single time I thought of getting in bed with her, she would compare my privates with the ones in those videos, and she would curse me out until I lost all my confidence when I was with her. Slowly, I completely lost my ability to perform in front of her. Once she found out that I couldn’t satisfy her, she couldn’t be bothered to put up with me anymore, and she began looking for other men outside of our home. Although she wasn’t open about it, I knew about it nonetheless. However, I didn’t want to tear this family apart, and I also knew that I was partially responsible for this situation. There was nothing else I could do apart from silently allowing her to do what she was doing. All I could do was make excuses so that we could move every six months or every year. That way, the neighbors wouldn’t find out and attack me. I began to treat the quarry as my home so that I wouldn’t feel troubled when I saw her being with other men. During that time, Xiaotao and Chen Xijin were already living at the quarry. Xiaotao was enthusiastic, and she always got Chen Xijin to invite me over for dinner. She would deliberately tell me all about Chen Xijin’s flaws when I was over at her home. Later on, we somehow got together. In order to make it easier for us to date, Xiaotao made up an excuse to move to Chen Village. She then encouraged Xijin to take on more shifts to earn money, making it easier for us to date.”
“You can’t even satisfy your own wife, and you went looking for another woman? Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Wu Xing butted in, unable to comprehend the situation.
Tian Maocai gave a pained smile. “Did you not understand what I said? It’s not that I can’t satisfy Xiaoyu, but her needs are just too strong! Any regular man can’t satisfy her! I won’t lie, but she wasn’t meeting with just one man! I just didn’t have any confidence when I was with her. I couldn’t get it up at all, but I was a stud with Xiaotao! She said I was better than ten Chen Xijins combined.”
A mildly pleased, confident smile appeared on Tian Maocai’s haggard face as he said that last line.
Mu Yu found it hard to believe his description of Qian Xiaoyu. She thought that Tian Maocai only said that to absolve himself of any responsibility, making up excuses to justify his affair. As such, she simply looked at him with a blank face without saying anything else.
However, Wu Xing was already snickering. “Who would have thought that your wife would still be so ‘energetic’ when she is already in her forties?”
“She’s actually not in her forties. Don’t believe the birthday on her ID saying that she’s 42. In reality, she’s only 38.”
“Is that so? Why would she put down a birthday that’s earlier than her own?” Mu Yu was surprised. “Women typically prefer to be thought of as younger, right?”
“Her parents wanted her to marry as soon as she could, so they secretly added four years to her birthday when they registered her ID. In addition to that, she has a rigorous skincare regimen, so she looks like she’s only in her early thirties. When we’re out on the streets together, we look mismatched. That was also one of the reasons she berated me. Still, to tell you the truth, I felt like she’s changed ever since her brother came over. She treated me a lot better, and she no longer cursed at me at the drop of a hat like she did before. I think it was probably because she felt guilty for using my money to supplement her brother’s expenses. We actually get along pretty well outside of the bedroom. I suppose, in some way, I was thankful toward Dacheng even though I disliked his laziness. Didn’t you suspect us of colluding with each other earlier at the dorm? That isn’t quite the case. Xiaoyu was just reminding me not to run my mouth because she was worried that I would lose my job over my affair with Xiaotao.”
At that, a fearful look came over Tian Maocai’s face again. “Chief Rong, this has nothing to do with Dacheng’s case at all. Please keep this a secret for us, all right?”
“Is Qian Xiaoyu still involved with other men?” Rong Jian asked.
“No. We haven’t moved in over four years ever since her brother came over. I’ve never heard about any of her escapades from our neighbors.”
“Over four years? When did her brother come to you?” Mu Yu asked.
“Uh, about ten years ago.”
The light that flashed across Tian Maocai’s eyes did not escape Rong Jian’s notice. He smacked the table and barked out harshly, “Tian Maocai, if you do not start telling me the truth, I will tell your CEO about your affair with Xiaotao right this instant!”
“No! Please don’t do that!”
“If you don’t start being honest, I’ll get Mr. Qin to fire you!”
“No! Please, no! I’ll talk! I’ll tell you everything, all right?” Tian Maocai cried, a mournful expression on his face.
