My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 304
Chapter 304 Her Worry
Mu Yu asked very seriously, “Is Qian Dacheng a native of An City?”
Rong Jian nodded. “Yeah, he’s from East City District of An City.”
“Was he born and raised locally there? Did he move here halfway like Li Jianyun—”
“Nope. I checked his household registration information, and he was born and raised in An City. Besides, unlike Li Jianyun, he has a sister in An City.”
“Oh. In that case, has he been to Huacheng before?”
“I asked his sister about it, and she said that he hasn’t.”
“I see.” Mu Yu looked disappointed, but she was somewhat unwilling to reconcile herself to this answer. “Is his sister sure that he has never been to Huacheng before?”
“She is very sure of that. She said that her younger brother had always been in An City without ever going anywhere else, though this has yet to be verified.” Obviously, Rong Jian was also skeptical about Qian Xiaoyu’s statement. “I have to make some other arrangements, Yu. Just go back with Huan when you’re done.” Since he knew that he couldn’t persuade Mu Yu to go back early, he didn’t bother spending time on this. He then turned to Feng Rubing and said, “You should go back to the forensic lab first. I’ll come again later.” After Feng Rubing nodded, he left quickly without looking at Mu Yu and Qin Jinhuan again.
Feng Rubing greeted Mu Yu before she quickly headed into the forensic lab, leaving only Mu Yu and Qin Jinhuan in the interrogation room for a moment. The latter held Mu Yu’s hand and suggested in a soft voice, “Why don’t you go back and rest for a bit first, darling? You can come in earlier tomorrow and change shifts with Feng Rubing.”
However, Mu Yu shook her head. “There’s a lot of work to be done today, so I’d like to stay and help Madam Feng. You may go back first.”
“There isn’t much work to be done, so Feng Rubing can handle it alone. It’ll be a waste of manpower if you stay around, so it’d be better to come early tomorrow to replace Feng Rubing and let her go back for a rest.”
Mu Yu thought Qin Jinhuan’s words made some sense, but she was still reluctant to leave. After thinking about it for a moment, she looked at her watch and tried to negotiate with him. “It’s still early, so why don’t you go back first? I’ll go back later. Just tell Weng Yun to pick me up by then.”
“In that case, I’ll just wait for you.”
Since she knew that she couldn’t persuade Qin Jinhuan to leave just like how he couldn’t persuade her to go home, Mu Yu thought again for a moment and suggested, “Why don’t you sit here while I talk to Madam Feng for a while? We’ll go back at 10.00PM.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“Okay.” Mu Yu went to the forensic lab with Qin Jinhuan without saying anything else.
Feng Rubing was busy comparing some data inside the lab, but she wasn’t surprised to see Mu Yu and Qin Jinhuan return. After giving the couple a slight nod as a way of greeting them, she ignored them and continued what she was doing.
Mu Yu walked over and picked up Feng Rubing’s glass. Then, she poured her a glass of water and handed it to the latter before asking gingerly, “What do you think about Qian Dacheng’s case, Madam Feng?”
Feng Rubing took the glass and drank a mouthful of water to quench her thirst. Then, she answered slowly, “First of all, Jiao is definitely not the murderer.”
Mu Yu nodded. “I think so too.”
“Even though Qian Dacheng’s case is different from the previous three cases in terms of the tool used to commit the crime, I believe that the murderer is the same person since the modus operandi is the same.”
Mu Yu nodded again since what Feng Rubing said was exactly what she thought about the case.
Just then, Feng Rubing sighed. “We would’ve had a breakthrough in these cases if Qian Dacheng had also been to Huacheng six years ago. It’s just that…”
“Perhaps Qian Dacheng’s sister doesn’t know that he has been to Huacheng many years ago.”
“Yeah. I hope we can find a clue as soon as possible.”
“I wonder how things are going with Officer Liu and Officer Yan right now.”
Feng Rubing glanced at her watch. “We might have some results in no time. You should go back first. There isn’t much work at hand, so it’s fine for me to be here alone. I’ll call you if there are any new findings.”
“Let me work with y—”
“I prefer working alone,” Feng Rubing retorted flatly before entering the lab.
“Hey! Madam Feng, I—”
Qin Jinhuan stopped Mu Yu. “She’s already expressed that she prefers working alone. Aren’t you afraid of being frowned upon if you follow her into the lab?”
Mu Yu was instantly displeased. “Can’t you tell that Madam Feng only said that just to let me go home with peace of mind because she doesn’t want to watch you sitting here for nothing?”
“In that case, why aren’t you going home yet? You’ll abuse her kindness by following her into the lab.”
Mu Yu glared at Qin Jinhuan sulkily. “If you had gone back, Madam Feng would’ve definitely asked me to stay. I asked you to go back, yet you refused to do so!”
“There isn’t much work to do here. Besides, you can’t be of much help by staying here.”
“That isn’t necessarily the case. One more person can provide another way of thinking, after all. Perhaps that can solve the case sooner.”
“You guys can’t solve cases in just a day or two. Working through the night won’t make a difference.”
Mu Yu immediately glared at Qin Jinhuan in displeasure. “Are you mocking us police for being incapable of solving cases?”
“You’re overthinking it.” Qin Jinhuan held her hand and laughed as he led her out. “You’re a member of the police, so won’t I be laughing at you by laughing at them? Since you’re my wife, won’t I be laughing at myself by laughing at you? I’m not stupid.”
Had this happened in normal times, Mu Yu would have engaged in a battle of words with Qin Jinhuan. However, she was in no mood to do so at this moment, so she merely followed him with her head down.
When he saw how Mu Yu still remained silent after they got into the car, Qin Jinhuan put his arm around her shoulder and asked with a laugh, “Are you still thinking about the case?”
Mu Yu didn’t smile, though. Instead, she looked at him very seriously and said, “I really want to solve the case sooner.”
“Everyone wants to solve the case sooner, but it’s useless worrying about this.”
“It’s useless worrying about this, so I want to contribute as much as possible.” Mu Yu looked very serious. “In reality, I’m not as great as you think. To be honest with you, I’m so worried about these serious cases merely because of my selfish motives. I’m really concerned because the victim of the latest murder case is still connected to your company! Just think about it—Sun Meilan’s death had little impact on your company, but Zhao Yongli’s death obviously caused panic among some of your staff members. When Li Jianyun was murdered, not only did some staff members of your company’s headquarters want to resign, even the workers from the subsidiary factories were also in a state of anxiety. They all wanted to quit their jobs—”
Qin Jinhuan interrupted her, “That was because some ill-intentioned people maliciously incited the staff members to spread rumors. I don’t have to name them directly, do I?”
Knowing that he was referring to Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun, Mu Yu shook her head with a sigh. “These rumors would’ve disappeared following their departure if no other similar cases surfaced. The problem is that a new case has now emerged, and it is closely connected to Qing Tian Group. In a few days, I believe that all kinds of new rumors unfavorable to Qing Tian Group’s internal stability will emerge again about these serial murders. I don’t know if you are fully prepared for various possible problems, but I have a bad feeling that many unfortunate things are about to happen. Don’t let your guard down because you think Qing Tian Group is currently growing favorably. You’d better keep an eye on everything during this critical period.”
Qin Jinhuan reassured her with a laugh and said, “It’s all right. I’ll take appropriate measures as the situation calls for. You should believe in your husband’s capabilities, you know.”
“Of course I believe in your capabilities, but I think it’s better to take preventive measures.” Mu Yu became increasingly anxious when she saw that Qin Jinhuan was still smiling. “What I’m saying to you is serious. I’m in no mood to joke with you.”
Qin Jinhuan embraced her and kissed her on the forehead. Then, he responded with a laugh and said, “Thank you for your concern, darling. I’ll keep your advice in mind.”
Mu Yu didn’t push him away. Instead, she snuggled in his arms and sighed. “I wonder how Officer Liu and the others’ investigations are going.”
“The results will probably be the same as what you’re thinking.”
Mu Yu pushed Qin Jinhuan. “Do you know what I’m thinking about?”
“Didn’t you talk about it before?”
“That was just a guess I made based on the murderer’s previous counter-reconnaissance skills. I hope that my guess is wrong.”
“Do you think your guess may be wrong?”
Mu Yu shook her head dejectedly. “I hope that the murderer might leave a clue behind in a moment of carelessness.” However, she knew that such a possibility was very unlikely, so she was somewhat discouraged after finishing her sentence. Even so, she still held out against hope. After hesitating for a while, she decided to call Liu Xiaofan to ask him about the situation.
Liu Xiaofan immediately answered the phone and gave her an accurate answer. “The small living room of the apartment next door shows signs of being cleaned very recently, proving that someone has been here in the last few days. We contacted Room 802’s owners—they are still abroad and have yet to come back. According to the couple, they have the keys with them and have not entrusted any relatives or friends to enter their apartment. Besides, the apartment has no signs of being rummaged, which shows that the person who entered wasn’t a burglar. Therefore, it’s very likely that the person who came in was the one who murdered Qian Dacheng. But for now, we haven’t found any valuable clues in Room 802.”
His answer was within Mu Yu’s expectations, but she couldn’t help feeling disappointed. When she hung up the phone, she gave a silent sigh.
“Stop sighing. We’re home.” Qin Jinhuan got out of the car first. Then, he walked around the vehicle and opened the car door for Mu Yu.
With that, Mu Yu got out of the car. She watched as Bian Zijun drove the car into the garage, but then she suddenly remembered something and immediately called Rong Jian. The latter said, “I’ll be at Qian Xiaoyu’s home right away, Yu. Please talk about the key issues first.”
Since she knew that Rong Jian was in a hurry, Mu Yu said quickly without explaining much, “I just called Officer Liu, Chief Rong. He said someone had indeed entered Room 802 lately, but the person was neither the room’s owner nor a burglar, so we’re guessing it was probably the murderer.”
“I’m also guessing that the murderer might’ve been in there. Unfortunately, he was cunning enough to leave no trace behind.”
“Since the murderer entered Room 802 after Jiao put the garbage bag at its door, can’t we focus our investigation on the house owners who entered or moved about in the neighborhood during this period? It seems that the surveillance cameras at the entrance and in other buildings are still working.”
Rong Jian laughed. “My thoughts exactly. I have asked Fan to look into it,” he replied. However, his voice immediately became somewhat grave after that. “However, I think the murderer is likely not one of the house owners in this neighborhood. Of course, Fan will carefully investigate all the house owners who have moved about in this neighborhood during this period, but the investigation will be difficult if the person who committed the murder isn’t from this neighborhood. Not only that, it had been raining in An City during this period. Therefore, those walking in and out of the neighborhood were all holding umbrellas, so the surveillance footage would only show umbrellas, not faces. If the murderer really entered the neighborhood with an umbrella, he wouldn’t have held a unique umbrella. Besides, it would be extremely difficult to spot him via an ordinary umbrella. Of course, the high degree of difficulty isn’t an excuse for us to be careless. All right, I’m at the door to Qian Xiaoyu’s home now. Let’s talk on the phone later if you have anything else to say,” he said before hanging up the call.
As she stood under the eaves, a depressed Mu Yu put down her cell phone and was about to step into the house when Qin Jinhuan’s phone rang next to her. He answered the phone while entering the house with her, but after walking just a few steps, he paused and asked in shock, “What?! Where are you right now?!”
