My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 273
Chapter 273 V587’s Son-In-Law
“Huh?” Qin Jinhuan stopped in his tracks and glanced at Bian Zijun.
“Dong Wanqing has requested Chen Kai to meet with Dong Yueyun three times today. He followed our instructions and agreed to help her pass her request on, but he told her that Dong Yueyun wasn’t willing to see her later on. Right now, her emotions are just as you predicted—she’s agitated. She’s even kicked up several fusses in there. Chen Kai will arrange for the people in the same room to ‘take care’ of her. I believe that she’ll break down before the night is over. When the time comes, Chen Kai will cooperate with Liu Xiaofan and the others for the interrogation. Everything is going as planned.”
“Good.” An approving smile spread on Qin Jinhuan’s face before he reminded Bian Zijun, “Don’t let your guard down. We have to seize this chance properly.”
“Got it.” Bian Zijun’s expression was solemn.
“All right.” Just as Qin Jinhuan was about to leave, a thought struck him; he turned his head again to ask Bian Zijun, “Has Huang Bo left yet?”
“Yes, he left this morning.”
“He’s not allowed to come back without my permission.”
“Understood.”
Once Qin Jinhuan had walked a good distance away, Bian Zijun finally dared to express his sympathy for Huang Bo—he had been punished by being sent to some African country for hard labor. However, neither he, Weng Yun, or the others dared to ask Qin Jinhuan for mercy on his behalf right now. They all knew Qin Jinhuan’s way of handling things very well, so they knew that asking for leniency on Huang Bo’s behalf would not actually help him; it would make things worse for Huang Bo as well after what he’d done.
Currently, Mu Yu was the only one who could help him, but Mu Yu was in awful condition right now. Not only that, she had friction with Qin Jinhuan—Bian Zijun still didn’t know that they had made up already. None of the others dared to look for her, so all they could do was think of a way to help Huang Bo out later on.
Although Qin Jinhuan knew that Bian Zijun and the others were upset over Huang Bo’s assignment to Africa, he still left while pretending that he didn’t know anything.
Sending Huang Bo to Africa was already a moment of sentiment for him. Otherwise, Qin Jinhuan wouldn’t have just sent him there.
When Qin Jinhuan arrived at Mu Yu’s ward, Hu Meiling was feeding her some soup. Upon seeing him enter, Hu Meiling immediately greeted him.
“Are you feeling better?” Qin Jinhuan asked Mu Yu while smiling at her as he gestured for Hu Meiling to sit down.
“The doctor said that her condition is far better than yesterday’s, but that doesn’t mean we can relax. She must get proper rest,” Mu Ziyao answered in Mu Yu’s place from the side.
“That’s good to hear.” Qin Jinhuan was delighted to hear the news. He bent down to smile and whisper to Mu Yu, watching as she drank her soup. “You have to listen to the doctor and rest well.”
Mu Yu only grumbled back at him jokingly once she had gulped down a mouthful of soup. “I’ll only be able to get some proper rest if you don’t get on my nerves.”
When he felt her parent’s gazes landing on his face like arrows, Qin Jinhuan immediately laughed. “How can I possibly make you angry? I can’t even love you enough.”
Mu Yu hadn’t expected him to boldly say that in front of her parents. Seeing her parents chuckle to themselves, she felt embarrassed and immediately shot him a look.
Worried that Qin Jinhuan would feel awkward, Hu Meiling immediately proffered the soup bowl and spoon to him. “Huan, we haven’t had dinner yet, so we’re a little hungry. Why don’t you feed Yu instead?”
As she said that, she gave Mu Ziyao a look. He immediately understood her intentions and played along with her. “Yes, that’s right—I’m hungry too. I’m nearly starving to death.”
“All right.” Qin Jinhuan took the bowl and spoon without complaining before he called for Weng Yun—who was standing guard outside—and ordered him to take the two elderly parents for dinner.
Mu Ziyao immediately waved a hand. “There’s no need for that. We can just eat at the hospital’s cafeteria.”
Mu Yu immediately felt somewhat displeased. “Dad, Huan’s not some stranger. Can’t you accept your own son-in-law’s kindness?”
“That’s right, why are you being such a stranger to your own son-in-law?” Hu Meiling smiled beatifically. “He’s more or less our son. If he insists, then we should do just that. Stop dilly-dallying.”
With that, she pulled Mu Ziyao out of the room. Just as she reached the door, she turned her head back and pointed at the thermal lunchbox on the table while looking at Qin Jinhuan. “Huan, there’s still some food inside that lunchbox. You can eat some of it with Yu after you’ve fed her the soup. Still, poor Auntie’s cooking skills are a little subpar, so please don’t mind the taste.”
“‘Auntie’?” Qin Jinhuan frowned. “Aren’t you supposed to be ‘Mom’?”
“Yes, yes—it should be ‘Mom’ to you too.” Hu Meiling tapped her head. “My brain can’t keep up with my mouth.”
“All right now, that’s enough. You’ve been chatting too much. If you keep this up, Yu’s soup is going to get cold,” Mu Ziyao said as he chuckled and pulled his wife past the door.
“Can you stop being so haughty?” Mu Yu dully rolled her eyes at Qin Jinhuan.
Qin Jinhuan scooped up a spoonful of soup and lightly blew on it before presenting it to her. As he signaled for her to open her mouth, he asked quizzically, “How am I being haughty?”
Mu Yu only grumbled her reply once she had downed that spoonful of soup. “Can you please be more polite when you speak to my parents? Don’t keep acting like you’re above them.”
“Do I behave like I’m above others?”
“Of course. My mom wouldn’t have made that mix-up otherwise in front of you. She’s a pretty quick-witted person.”
Sweat dripped down Qin Jinhuan’s face as he explained, “But she accidentally called herself that because we rarely talk to each other, right? This shouldn’t have anything to do with it, correct?”
Mu Yu pouted. “You’ve snatched their daughter, whom they’ve painstakingly raised for the last twenty-odd years, yet you’re still so distant to them. No matter how you slice it, isn’t it because you rarely see them? Dear me, I figure that my parents must regret helping Grandpa to set us up together. If they had found a regular guy to be their son-in-law instead, they definitely would have chatted with him until sundown, and they would have bossed him around. He would even have to humbly bring them some nice wines and cigars to pacify them. They wouldn’t have been so suffocated like they were just now.”
Qin Jinhuan smiled. “Were they now? Why didn’t I get that feeling?”
“You’re from a prestigious family. Do you think they’d dare to show their repressed feelings on their faces?”
“Okay, okay, my bad. Everything is my fault. Here, open wide. I’ll humbly bring them some good wine to pacify them later, all right?”
“You’ve got to be as gentle as lamb when you’re talking to them. Your tone has got to be as soft as an angel’s touch. No imperative sentences!”
Qin Jinhuan burst into laughter. “Two figures of speech in one go, along with a very professional linguistic term. I think that my wife can be both a forensic scientist and a language teacher.”
“My grades in language class have never been terrible, okay?”
“Yes, yes, they weren’t terrible. In fact, you got good grades. My dear wife is the absolute smartest, best woman out there! Here now, let me reward you with a spoonful of chicken soup.”
Mu Yu was amused by the adoration written all over his face. She spluttered with laughter as she took the soup bowl from him. “It’s slow drinking this sip by sip. Let me drink it myself.”
Having sensed that the soup was no longer boiling hot, Qin Jinhuan handed the bowl to her and got up. “The doctor said you can eat solid food, so I’m going to get you some.”
In actuality, Qin Jinhuan had looked for the doctor on duty to ask about Mu Yu’s condition today before he came to visit her. He even asked around for tips to help get Mu Yu back into tip-top shape as soon as possible. At first, he thought of calling up Yu Zhongguang to get him to make some nourishing foods for her, but he nixed the idea when he heard Weng Yun say that she had sent some nourishing soup for Mu Yu.
It was only when he opened the thermal lunch box and saw the huge portions of food packed inside that he realized that Mu Yu’s parents had gone out for dinner so that he could spend some time alone with Mu Yu. At the thought of having such kind and understanding people for his parents-in-law, he couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Look at how nice my parents have been to you. They keep shielding you, they sing your praises in front of me, and they also keep wanting me to accommodate you.” Mu Yu pouted, having seen through the meaning of his laughter. “It’s like I’m not their daughter. It feels more like I’m the daughter-in-law instead.”
“Rest assured, my lady. This humble one shall carve his mother and father-in-laws’ kindness onto his heart and treat them well for the rest of his life!”
“You better remember what you just said.”
“Do you want me to write it down and make three copies every day?”
“Pfft.” Mu Yu burst into laughter. “That should be a Wenwen thing, yeah? I’m not a teacher, so I don’t have the habit of punishing students by making them write lines.”
“The two of them seem to be getting along rather well,” Qin Jinhuan said as he fed her.
“It’s not ‘rather well’; it should be ‘very well’. Zeyu has completely accepted her already. You should have some food too.” After Mu Yu swallowed a bite of food, she brought the spoon over to his mouth.
She had woken up this afternoon and found out from Weng Yun that Qin Jinhuan was resting in one of the wards nearby. When she saw the droplets of water clinging to his hair, she immediately figured out that he had come straight to the hospital. He must not have had dinner yet, so Mu Yu signaled for him to eat.
“Did Zeyu tell you that he has completely accepted Jiang Wenwen, or did she tell you that he has accepted her?”
“Wenwen told me. She said that Zeyu treats her nicely.”
“How does he show that?”
Mu Yu thought it over for a bit before she said, “She said that Zeyu would go to the movies with her and buy her clothes, and that he would patiently listen to her even when it’s late at night. Oh, he even gave her presents before.”
“What else?”
“What else?” Mu Yu thought a bit more before shaking her head. “What else could there be?” she asked, lost.
“Other than that night when Zeyu got drunk, have they gotten intimate?”
That single question had Mu Yu feeling bashful. “Wenwen didn’t say, and I didn’t ask her about it. This isn’t something you can just ask, right?”
All of a sudden, a realization hit her. She probed him and asked, “Don’t tell me that getting intimate with him is the only way to know that Zeyu has truly accepted her?”
“That’s not necessarily the case. It’s not necessarily love if a man is willing to touch a woman. It might be because of biological urges too, but if that man refuses to even touch a certain woman, it definitely means that he has no interest in her. He will never be able to truly accept her.”
“Should I ask Wenwen about it later?”
“There’s nothing to ask her. There’s only so much we can do. The rest is up to fate.”
“You still think that Zeyu can’t get over Ying?”
“No idea. All right, let’s stop being so concerned about this. Let’s eat—cold food is bad for your stomach.”
Mu Yu nodded, and they began to eat their dinner together.
Once they had eaten, Qin Jinhuan put away everything and sat next to Mu Yu, talking each other’s ears off. Just as Mu Yu was about to fall asleep, the sound of several knocks on the door startled her awake. She immediately opened her eyes to see Rong Jian walk in. She hastily sat up and asked in a surprised manner, “Chief Rong, don’t tell me that there’s some major case if you’re here to see me at this late hour?”
With her and Feng Rubing currently in hospital, Nie Yunkang was the only one left in the forensics department, and Nie Yunkang still had to take care of his daughter as well. It was challenging to balance those two duties at the same time.
“No, don’t worry. Things are peaceful for now,” Rong Jian quickly explained before looking at Qin Jinhuan. “I’m here to see Huan.”
Mu Yu immediately looked at Qin Jinhuan quizzically while she asked Rong Jian, “What is it?”
“It’s nothing. I just want talk about Rubing with someone else; Huan just so happened to be in the hospital, so I came to look for him.”
“Is Madam Feng all right?”
“She’s okay.”
“Then, is she…”
“Yu, you should rest. Huan and I will talk outside.” After Rong Jian cut Mu Yu off, he gave Qin Jinhuan a look before exiting the room with quick steps.
“Why is Chief Rong being so mysterious? Could it be that…”
“Quit making blind guesses. Lie down and get some rest. I’ll be back with you soon.” After he had helped Mu Yu lie down, Qin Jinhuan left her room and followed Rong Jian to the end of a deserted corridor.
“Just what in the world are you planning to do?” Rong Jian stared at Qin Jinhuan with absolute graveness.
