My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 259
Chapter 259 A Car Accident
“Young Mistress!” A panic-stricken Huang Bo rushed over and picked up Mu Yu after she had rolled a few times on the ground. Once he noticed that she was already unconscious, he turned pale in horror; he quickly called the emergency center since he had no time to pursue the perpetrator.
Just then, two men in black rushed to his side and shouted, “Mr. Huang!” Seeing that they were the two men working under him and were in charge of protecting Mu Yu in secret, he immediately ordered the thinner and taller of the two by saying, “Hurry up and go after that perpetrating vehicle!”
“Yes, Mr. Huang!” The thin and tall man immediately got up, ran to the roadside, and tried to hail a taxi.
Unfortunately, cars were forbidden to stop on the stretch of road near the Rising Sun Plaza, plus a minimum speed limit had been imposed because of the pedestrian overpass nearby. Since these two men feared that it would be inconvenient for them to protect Mu Yu while driving, they parked their car in Second East Stop’s paid parking lot. At this moment, they could only try and hail a taxi to chase after the perpetrator. However, due to the thin and tall bodyguard’s fierce looks, none of the taxi drivers dared to stop. Instead, they chose to quickly drive past him and accelerate away, causing him to run after these taxis before he let loose a torrent of abuse in anger.
At the sight of this, the slightly stouter bodyguard rushed over threateningly and jumped right in front of a private car heading his way, and the private car’s driver hit the brakes sharply for fear of running his car into him. Then, the thin and tall bodyguard made a big stride to the front of the car door and slapped it hard. Thinking that he had come across some car robbers, the driver hurriedly locked his car and looked gingerly at them through the car window. As he saw them signaling for him to get out of the car, he didn’t dare to ram his car into them and forcibly make way for himself, so he could only secretly take out his cell phone and prepare to call the police.
“We aren’t robbers!” Knowing that the driver had mistaken them for car robbers, the thin and tall bodyguard pointed at Huang Bo and Mu Yu by the roadside while he took out a stack of cash and slapped the car window. “We’re borrowing your car to save someone’s life! Please help us! We’ll give you all this cash!”
The driver had seen Mu Yu lying on the roadside. After taking another look at the stack of red banknotes, he hesitated for a moment and unlocked his car.
The thin and tall bodyguard was about to get into the car, but his stouter colleague had impatiently leaped in front of the driver’s seat and pulled the car door open. After dragging the driver out of the car in a boorish way, he got into the car and said to the thin and tall bodyguard, “I’ll go after it!” With that, he sped away.
“All right!” The thin and tall bodyguard then turned around and called his other colleagues for help while rushing to Huang Bo, leaving the private car’s driver standing alone in the middle of the road in utter confusion.
Mu Yu didn’t make a sound at this moment; her deathly pale face was covered with grazes as she lay limply on the ground like boiled noodles, and the puddle of blackish-red blood beneath her looked even more shocking.
Since he had been working for Qin Jinhuan for so many years, Huang Bo had seen much of the world. Still, he was so frightened at this moment that his limbs turned to jelly. Knowing very well what it meant to him if anything bad happened to Mu Yu, he lifted her up and yelled at the thin and tall bodyguard, “Ask around and find out where the ambulance will be coming from!”
“Huh? Uh, okay!” It wasn’t until then that the thin and tall bodyguard noticed Mu Yu’s condition and was frightened out of his wits—he even keyed in the wrong password twice on his cell phone before getting through to the emergency center. After learning that the ambulance was coming from the west side, he immediately beckoned to Huang Bo.
Huang Bo then frantically ran westward along the road with Mu Yu in his arms. After running 30 to 40 meters, the ambulance from the emergency center stopped in his path. As the paramedics carried Mu Yu into the ambulance on a stretcher, Huang Bo followed them into the vehicle. However, there wasn’t enough space for the thin and tall bodyguard, so he immediately ran to the front, hailed a taxi, and followed the ambulance closely.
Meanwhile, Huang Bo crouched in a corner while he called Bian Zijun in a complete panic; he didn’t even dare to call Qin Jinhuan and tell him that Mu Yu was in such a state. Once he heard the busy signal indicating that the other party had switched off his phone, he realized that Bian Zijun and Qin Jinhuan were still on the plane. After sending Bian Zijun a text message with trembling hands to give a brief account of the situation, he anxiously glanced at Mu Yu—who was surrounded by the paramedics—and prayed in his mind while calling his stout colleague in a trembling manner.
The stout colleague said, “Mr. Huang, we didn’t manage to catch up with the vehicle! Kun has gone to check the surveillance footage nearby; he said that he’ll report to you as soon as there are any updates.”
“Find the perpetrator’s vehicle as soon as possible!”
“Yes, we will.”
After he hung up the phone, Huang Bo nervously looked at the busy paramedics again while praying that Mu Yu would be safe and sound. At this very moment, he had lost all his strength; he didn’t even have the urge to curse anyone.
The ambulance soon drove into the hospital nearby, and Mu Yu was rushed into the emergency room at once. Standing listlessly at the emergency room’s entrance, Huang Bo was about to call Min Kun—the thin and tall bodyguard—to ask him about the surveillance footage. Much to his surprise, he received an incoming call from Bian Zijun’s number. He nearly dropped his cell phone while his hands trembled, but he hurriedly clutched it and answered the phone in trepidation.
“What the hell happened?!” It was Qin Jinhuan’s voice!
Qin Jinhuan’s anxious growl hurt Huang Bo’s eardrum and made him so terror-stricken that even his voice changed in pitch. “Boss, Y-Young Mistress—”
“What exactly happened to Yu?! Speak!”
Huang Bo could sense Qin Jinhuan’s burning anxiety and towering rage through the phone’s screen, and it terrified him even more. “S-She’s receiving emergency treatment.”
“How is she?! Is her life in danger?!”
Meanwhile, Huang Bo didn’t dare to make any irresponsible remarks, and he only felt his scalp tingling. “Her condition is still unclear for now; she was just rushed into the emergency room.”
“You bunch of b*stards!” Qin Jinhuan gnashed his teeth. “Don’t you even dare to think about staying alive if anything bad happens to Yu. Just pray for yourselves! What the hell are you waiting for?! Hurry up and arrange…”
The call was hung up before Huang Bo could hear the rest of the sentence. As he crouched in a corner with his head in his hands, he pulled his hair in frustration while he cursed himself for being so careless. I must let the perpetrator die a violent death if I find them! Huang Bo thought to himself. Find the perpetrator… The perpetrator… Then, he immediately called Min Kun.
Knowing what Huang Bo wanted to ask, Min Kun spoke before he did. “I’ve found the location of the black Hyundai that hit the Young Mistress.”
“What about the driver of the vehicle?”
“There’s no news about the driver yet. I only found information about the vehicle’s whereabouts; after fleeing the scene, it drove into the underground parking lot of Olay Supermarket, which is at the west side of Rising Sun Plaza. I’ve just reached the underground parking lot. I…” Min Kun’s voice paused for a few seconds. “Mr. Huang, there’s no signal in the underground parking lot. I’ll find the car first, and I’ll contact you again once there’s news.”
“All right.” Huang Bo’s panic eased slightly after he hung up the phone, and he slowly came to his senses. After walking slowly to the seats at one side, he sat down and lowered his head in quiet contemplation.
The stretch of road where Mu Yu was hit by the vehicle had a minimum speed limit, so the car obviously violated the traffic regulations of this stretch by driving so slowly in the beginning. After that, it suddenly sped up and hit Mu Yu; it sent her flying before the car quickly fled the scene without braking even once in the process. This proved that the car accident was deliberately premeditated.
Who would hate Mu Yu so much that they wanted to kill her in such a cruel manner? Could the culprit be Yin Anran—Mu Yu’s rival in love—or Dong Wanqing? Could the culprit be Qin Jinhuan’s commercial competitor or a gangster whom Mu Yu offended due to her work?
Just then, a call from Min Kun interrupted Huang Bo’s thoughts. “Mr. Huang, I’ve found the perpetrating vehicle, but its driver isn’t around. We’ve found some information about the vehicle; it belongs to a rental company and the booking was registered using a fake ID.”
As expected, this car accident was premeditated, thought Huang Bo to himself. “Does the surveillance footage contain a clearer image of the vehicle’s driver?”
“That’s what I want to talk to you about—the surveillance footage of the section near the plaza shows the driver inside the perpetrating vehicle, but nothing else could be seen except for the wide-brimmed red hat that she was wearing.”
“Well, is the rental company able to provide the surveillance footage of the person who picked up the vehicle then?”
“They’re looking into it, but there’s been no news yet. Mr. Huang, should we call the police?”
“Don’t call the police first. Just have two guys watch the perpetrating vehicle for the time being.” Huang Bo knew Qin Jinhuan very well, so he knew that the latter never liked calling the police over such matters; after all, calling the police would cause them more trouble when dealing with their enemies. Moreover, the person who met with an accident on this day was Mu Yu, Qin Jinhuan’s beloved woman. As long as they found the perpetrator, Huang Bo knew that his boss would never be soft on the person—it didn’t matter if Mu Yu’s life was in danger or not.
“All right.”
“Aren’t there any surveillance cameras in the underground parking lot?”
“Nope.”
“The supermarket is above the underground parking lot, right? There must be surveillance cameras installed there.”
“I’ll check it out right now.”
“Also, make a copy of the surveillance footage showing the perpetrating vehicle’s course—including its course before the accident—and send it over.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up the phone, Huang Bo fixed his eyes on the closely shut doors of the emergency room. Just then, he heard a voice asking, “Huang Bo! How is Yu?”
“Chief Rong?” Huang Bo was astounded at the sight of Rong Jian. He immediately glared at the colleague next to him and asked, “Who called the police?”
“I didn’t call the police.” The colleague next to him looked dumbfounded.
“Then who—”
“No one called the police! How is Yu? Is her life in danger?” Rong Jian was more worried about this.
Huang Bo looked at the emergency room, feeling disheartened. “I don’t know that either. Either way, the situation doesn’t look good.”
“Was it a traffic accident?”
“Absolutely not.”
“It’s not?!” Rong Jian was shocked. “Was it premeditated? Who did it?”
“I don’t know that either. At the moment, we haven’t found any information about the perpetrating vehicle’s driver.”
“Why didn’t you call the police?”
Huang Bo was surprised by Rong Jian’s question, but he suddenly recalled that the person in charge of the surveillance center was the latter’s classmate; only then did he realize why Rong Jian found his way here with no one calling the police. Thus, he replied ambiguously, “We were so focused on sending the Young Mistress to the hospital earlier that we forgot to call the police.”
However, this wasn’t the first or second day Rong Jian had dealt with Huang Bo and his men, so he naturally saw through what was on Huang Bo’s mind. “Call the police right now! You must call the police over such a serious incident!”
“No, you mustn’t call the police!” shouted Huang Bo as he stopped Rong Jian from making the call. He pleaded with him by saying, “Chief Rong, please let our boss make the decision.”
“No! This matter is serious, so we must call the police!”
“Please don’t make things difficult for me, Chief Rong!” Since Rong Jian insisted on calling the police, Huang Bo could only get tough. “I won’t cooperate with the police to have my testimony recorded without Boss’s permission.”
“You!” Rong Jian put down his cell phone angrily before turning his gaze to the emergency room. He then asked, “How’s your investigation going?”
After a moment’s hesitation, Huang Bo told Rong Jian everything he had learned. Rong Jian was a well-experienced police officer, so he believed that they would find out the detestable perpetrator faster with Rong Jian’s help. “There’s been no news about the perpetrator for now,” he said at the end of his speech.
Huang Bo’s words weren’t very coherent, but Rong Jian understood what he meant. Nonetheless, Rong Jian did not expect the situation to be this bad, so he knitted his brows. Suddenly, he voiced his suspicions and asked, “Shouldn’t Yu be going to work at this time? Why would she go to Rising Sun Plaza?”
“I’m not clear about that either. Young Mistress said she wanted to go shopping and asked me to drop her at the Second East Stop. I thought she had an appointment with someone, so I didn’t think much about it and—”
Just then, the emergency room’s doors swung open; Huang Bo stopped talking and looked uneasily at the nurse who had rushed out from the inside.
“Hey, miss!” Rong Jian immediately grabbed the nurse’s hand. “How’s the patient? Is she all right?”
“She’s in critical condition with a massive hemorrhage!”
“Is she in such a serious condition?!” Rong Jian was shocked, whereas Huang Bo went weak in the knees.
