My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 251
Chapter 251 The Reason Behind a Hidden Room
More than anything, Mu Yu was naturally curious.
Glancing outside the study and making sure that no one was around, she hesitated slightly before getting up. After hurrying toward the bookshelf, she peered into the opening between the racks.
The secret room was rather small and not elaborately decorated; only a huge book rack rested against a wall, filling its entire width. The rack was made up of many smaller compartments, and each of them were filled with neatly-stacked A4 papers.
To be stored so carefully in such a secretive place—what else can they be if not secret documents?
Perhaps… They’re confidential clientele information?
Realizing her intrusive act of stumbling into a private space, she quickly turned to leave. Just then, she noticed a large photograph mounted on another wall which made her stop short in her tracks.
It was a photograph of a girl beaming with sparkling eyes—it was none other than herself!
Staring at the photograph before her, she remembered that the photograph was taken when Xin Yihan drove her to An University on her very first day; it was one of the few photographs which had been taken by the university officials.
Back then, he had printed all the photos into an album, but she didn’t expect him to have printed such a large piece to be put up on a wall in a secret room!
What is the meaning of this?
Could it be that he…
T-That can’t be true!
If Xin Yihan really had feelings for her, he wouldn’t have gotten together with Yin Xiaotian. After all, he and Mu Yu had known each other for such a long time.
That reminds me… Does Xiaotian know about this place?
If she does…
Huh? There are more photos on this side!
Just then, she noticed about ten small photographs lined neatly on either side of the large photograph. However, they were no longer photos of her alone, but of her and Qin Jinhuan together.
The angle of which the photos were shot suggested that they were probably taken candidly from afar. Even so, they were of high quality and skillfully taken—the two subjects still looked presentable. Moreover, the chemistry and love between them could clearly be seen. The backgrounds also varied between each photograph, showing that these were taken with a great deal of effort.
Doubt gathered between her brows.
In addition to having her photograph plastered on a wall in his secret room, why did he have to collect this many candid shots of her and Qin Jinhuan—especially ones of such high quality?
He couldn’t have wanted to purely witness their happiness together, right?
She couldn’t help but brush off her strange reasoning with a laugh.
Stepping closer to the wall of photographs, she reached out and felt them as a thought flashed across her mind. If these were all photos of her and Qin Jinhuan on the wall, could it be that the A4 papers stacked on the shelves were all printed with their photographs as well?
She turned and headed over to the book rack and took a stack of A4 papers from the top shelf, casually flipping to a page. What met her eyes set her into shock yet again.
Printed on the papers were not photos, but a description of Qing Tian Group in a paragraph of words. Flipping the pages back and forth, she noticed that they were all written materials on Qing Tian Group—there were details of their subsidiary companies, their list of employees, the marketing direction of the company, and even records of annual profits. Shockingly, the title page of the document which recorded Qin Jinhuan’s personal information included details from his youth to his career. Even his parents’ relationship and ups and downs were thoroughly recorded without fail!
What in the world is Xin Yihan up to?!
Although she had her eyes set wholeheartedly on Xin Yihan in the past, things were different now. She had long since let go of her feelings for him and moved on. Now, the man she loved the most was Qin Jinhuan, so her heart couldn’t help but shiver with worry for him. She dreaded the fact that Xin Yihan had done something unspeakable toward Qin Jinhuan in the dark.
Then again, Qin Jinhuan had indeed given Xin Yihan a hard time thanks to the incident with Yin Yunzhe. Not only that, there were countless times where Qin Jinhuan had been jealous due to Mu Yu and Xin Yihan’s close relationship in the past. But since she had selflessly ‘risked it all’ to confess her love for Qin Jinhuan, Qing Tian Group had taken up a collaboration with Yong Yi Industry. Since the project had only just started, it wasn’t wrong to say that Xin Yihan successfully landed his first step on the way to corporate glory via Qing Tian Group. There was no way he would sabotage it all, right?
Unfamiliar with the way things worked in the corporate world, her head spun at the thought of all sorts of reasoning.
Wanting to know more about the situation, she quickly picked up the stack of documents piled up on the second rack and prepared to scour its contents. As she was about to flip the papers, she felt a hand on hers, stopping her from doing so.
“Yu.”
“Yihan?” She turned around and caught sight of the man. Shaking off Xin Yihan’s hand, she clutched the documents filled with Qin Jinhuan’s and Qing Tian Group’s information. Then, Mu Yu held it up to confront him. “Yihan, what is all this?” Her tone was serious.
She then pointed toward the photographs on the wall. “What about those photos?”
Xin Yihan was flustered. “Please don’t take it the wrong way, Yu. I…”
“All those photos were taken by me.”
“Xiaotian?” Just then, Mu Yu finally noticed that Yin Xiaotian was standing behind Xin Yihan. Her eyes shifted to her in confusion.
“Yeah.” Yin Xiaotian went up to her. As she gently took the stack of documents from Mu Yu’s hand, she said in a calm voice, “I prepared these documents as well.”
“Why?”
“It’s too stuffy here. Let’s talk outside.” Yin Xiaotian tossed the papers at Xin Yihan and ushered Mu Yu out of the room.
“What’s going on, Xiaotian? Why did you compile so much information on Huan and Qing Tian Group? Is this the real reason why you won’t show up to work at Yong Yi? Why are you doing this?” Overwhelmed with worry for Qin Jinhuan and Qing Tian Group, Mu Yu was agitated as she questioned Yin Xiaotian.
Yin Xiaotian did not answer immediately; instead, she stared at Mu Yu quietly. As Xin Yihan emerged from the entrance of the secret room, she replied with another question, “Tell me, Yu—do you love Mr. Qin? Does he love you back?”
Mu Yu flinched. “What does this have anything to do with what you’ve done?”
“It does,” Yin Xiaotian responded solemnly, taking a brief glance at Xin Yihan.
Mu Yu instinctively looked toward Xin Yihan and realized that he was returning the gaze, but his face was expressionless and unreadable. A moment of delay passed before she raised her head and answered Yin Xiaotian with unwavering certainty, “Yes, I love Huan very much and he loves me very much too. We are soulmates.”
She answered truthfully and sincerely, because she wanted to know Yin Xiaotian’s true answer.
The solemn expression on Yin Xiaotian suddenly cracked into a smile. “Had I known that things would turn out like this, I wouldn’t have gone through all the effort to do all that.”
Her response left Mu Yu utterly confused; she could only stare back at her blankly.
“I’m only doing all this for Yihan’s sake,” Yin Xiaotian said with a smile as she pointed a finger toward Xin Yihan. “When he first heard that you’d gotten together with Mr. Qin, he was so worried for you because of the infamous rumors about him. He was so scared for you and constantly worried that your feelings would be deceived, so he wanted to persuade you to end it with him. However, I stopped him each time. I’d been working under Mr. Qin at Qing Tian Group for several years, so I was quite familiar with his character. I know that he’s not like what the rumors say about him—a shallow, ignorant playboy who plays with women’s feelings. However, Yihan wouldn’t believe any of it. In order to prove my point, I cracked my head while trying to compile information on Mr. Qin and Qing Tian Group—I even hired photographers to follow the two of you around. I did it all to show him that the both of you are genuinely happy together; it was the only way to let go of his worries once and for all. He really wishes the best for you—you’re like a sister to him.”
Mu Yu was deeply moved by her words. She finally knew the reason behind taking those photographs which captured their fond affection for each other.
After thinking about it, though, she had another question in mind. “Why would you hide them in a secret room, though? Also, what are the other documents in there about?”
Hearing herself, she realized that she sounded a little hostile and added, “Don’t take it the wrong way—I just want to understand the situation.”
“I know what you mean,” Yin Xiaotian did not seem bothered by her question as she replied firmly. “The other shelves contain documents with important information about our company and data of our clients. Since our company’s website was hacked, Yihan decided to print a copy of the information to be stored in his secret chamber to keep it safe. As for the photographs… Hold on for a moment.”
She quickly pushed the switch which revealed the entrance and slipped into the opening. Before long, she came back with a tall box in her hands. “Take a look at this.”
From within the box, she pulled out a photo album and handed it to Mu Yu.
Flipping through the album pages, there were photos of herself in it. Picking up the other two photo albums in the box, she realized they were filled with her photographs as well. Mu Yu looked up and turned to Xin Yihan for answers, confused. “Why are my photo albums with you? When did you take them?”
“He’s never taken your albums. He always printed an extra copy for himself whenever your photos were taken; he only wants to look at them whenever he misses his dear sister.”
It was no secret to Mu Yu that Xin Yihan had a younger sister who passed away years ago—she knew that his sister was the sole reason behind his love and care for her, for he had more than once mentioned that she reminded him of her sister. Despite that, Mu Yu strongly believed that she could change his views about her and that they could have more than just a platonic relationship.
“To prevent any misunderstandings, he didn’t want anyone to find out that he had albums of your photos in his keep, especially ever since you and Mr. Qin started dating. Since he was worried that it might affect the relationship between you two, he hid the photo albums together with the company’s confidential information in the secret room. You’re no longer the old Mu Yu now; you’re the daughter of the Qin Family, adored by many women out there. Your private life is both vulnerable and precious to the paparazzi and is prized to be published in gossip magazines. In addition to the photos of the two of you that I’ve secretly taken, we’ve set up a wall dedicated to you—that way, Yihan can see you living your happy life as soon as he steps into the room.” Yin Xiaotian took Mu Yu’s hands in hers as she explained. She gave the latter a smile, her eyes soft. “To him, seeing you happy is the same as seeing his sister happy.”
Mu Yu’s heart stirred as she heard Yin Xiaotian’s last words, which inexplicably left a bittersweet feeling in her stomach. Tears stung the back of her eyes.
Xin Yihan cared deeply for her and she knew that, but what she didn’t know was the fact that he was so thorough in his actions to protect her.
“You’ve come at the right time, Yu. Xiaotian might need some words of comfort.”
The first words which came out of Xin Yihan’s mouth were surprising to Mu Yu. “What’s the matter?”
Looking back at Yin Xiaotian, Mu Yu realized that her complexion was pale and her eyes were red. Shocked, she rushed forward and pulled on her arm gently. “Xiaotian, are you okay?”
“Ah…” Yin Xiaotian breathed as she hung her head and started weeping.
