My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 231
Chapter 231 Seduced?
Meanwhile, inside the CEO’s office, Qin Jinhuan’s head was lowered as he was writing something when Zhi Xiaoyin suddenly came in. “Boss, your wife is here.”
He lifted his head flippantly. “So she’s here. Why are you panicking?”
His attitude left Zhi Xiaoyin baffled, but she soon collected herself again and hastily apologized while backing out of the office awkwardly.
Once the door was closed again, Qin Jinhuan put down his pen and looked at the door with a smile on his face, his gaze warm as he welcomed Mu Yu’s arrival.
Ever since Yan Xiaobing held Mu Yu hostage, Qin Jinhuan had arranged for people to constantly keep an eye on Mu Yu covertly. However, Mu Yu forced him to recall them when she vented to him a few nights ago and told him that his covert protection was more like stalking. Taking into consideration that there was already a tracking application installed in her phone, he agreed to do so. He hadn’t expected her to get into a car accident the moment he withdrew his men; he didn’t even know that she had been rushed to the ER. The incident had left him worried and filled with self-reproach, so he didn’t dare to put his full trust in that tracking app. Instead, he went behind her back and reinstated his men to shadow her, and he even asked them to report her actions whenever they could. Thus he wasn’t all that surprised that she showed up at the Qing Tian Building. He simply couldn’t understand why she didn’t call him before coming to visit him at work.
She should be almost reaching the office now. He pretended to be oblivious and continued to ‘work hard’.
The door opened at last.
He didn’t even lift his head as he pretended to be angry. “Why didn’t you knock?” he barked.
“It’s me.”
He repressed a smile and lifted his head to feign surprise. “Yu? Why are you here?”
He could see that she was currently holding a thermos. Intrigued, he began to guess what delicious morsel she might have brought him.
With a heavy thump, she slammed the thermos on the desk and cut straight to the chase. “Let me ask you—have you fired Yin Anran?”
It was only then that he noticed her wound-up expression. Qin Jinhuan’s heart pounded for a moment, and then he greeted her with a smile while diverting the topic. “Darling, what did you bring me this time?”
She slapped his questing hands away from the thermos none-too-kindly and repeated, “Have you fired her or not?”
“She holds many responsibilities in the company. For the benefit of the company, I plan to—”
“So you didn’t fire her?” Mu Yu cut him off with a furious expression.
“Darling, listen—”
“Don’t feed me nonsense! I’m only asking you this: are you going to fire her?”
“I will definitely fire her, but I can’t do that right now. Darling, why don’t we talk about this after the lunar new year celebrations?”
“If it’s something that’ll only happen after the celebrations, then why did you agree yesterday? You’re a man, and you can’t even keep your word; how do you expect me to believe you in the future?”
“That is my mistake. I’ll admit that, alright? I’ll make it up to you later.” Qin Jinhuan ginned as he pulled her into his embrace.
Due to Yin Anran’s connection with him and her own professional capabilities, the company had put her in charge of important work the day she started at the Qing Tian Group. By now, she was the backbone of the company; many company matters were handled by her. If she were to be suddenly fired, it would definitely lead to trouble.
That wasn’t the main point, of course. The most important thing was that he couldn’t let Yin Anran leave the Qing Tian Group because she was fired; that would ruin her future professional prospects. Trying to find another decent job after being fired from the Qing Tian Group was even more difficult than flying to the sun, and Yin Anran was very good at her job. Even if he wanted to get her to leave, he had to at least arrange a position for her at another company before getting her to submit her resignation letter out of his duty as her employer.
He had breezily promised Mu Yu to fire Yin Anran yesterday because Mu Yu’s sudden turn to safety from a dangerous situation had overwhelmed him with joy. Qin Jinhuan hadn’t thought about anything else then, other than to make her happy. It was only when he came back from the hospital last night and she brought that matter up that he realized the gravity of this problem. He had tried to resolve it, but when he saw that her expression changed, he worried about upsetting her. Hence, he decided to opt for stalling instead and pick a time to try and nudge Yin Anran into resigning.
Had it been any other employee, he would have just fired them; he wouldn’t have gone for such a soft approach. However, Yin Anran wasn’t any regular employee—even without her responsibilities, she had made many contributions to the company. Never had she mishandled anything. From what he knew of her, she would never leave without a fight if he didn’t come up with a reasonable excuse.
Prior to Mu Yu’s arrival at the company, he had even met with Wen Zeyu to discuss Yin Anran’s resignation. Wen Zeyu came up with a plan: he should use the pretense of training to send her on a trip away from the company for some time while telling Mu Yu that he had fired her already. However, Qin Jinhuan shot it down. After all, that would simply be a stopgap measure, and Mu Yu was very sensitive about this matter. He didn’t want to lie to the woman who would spend the rest of her life with him, and he was even more worried that she would lose the most basic of trust in him if she found out that he tricked her.
Qin Jinhuan initially thought that he still had some time to com e up with a plan of action, but he hadn’t expected Mu Yu to deliberately come all the way to his office to ask him about it. As someone who knew he was in the wrong, all he could do was give in and try to cajole her with smiles as he pondered about the best way to handle this.
“Don’t get all smiley at me.” Mu Yu saw right through him and pushed him away. “You can’t bear to fire her, right?”
“Gee, Mu Yu, your usage of words wasn’t all that right. What do you mean by ‘can’t bear to’? You should get Miss Wenwen to tutor you. She should be on winter vacation now, yes? Why don’t we get her to come over to the house and spend some time with you, and she can help resolve your issues while we’re at it?”
“Wenwen can come over, but you must fire Yin Anran. These are two completely different things.” Mu Yu still clung to the initial topic when she realized Qin Jinhuan was trying to shift it away.
In truth, she already had a plan. If he fired Yin Anran without a second thought for her, she would have used some excuse to tell him not to fire her out of consideration for the company’s long-term benefits. She would have sent Yin Anran to one of the subsidiaries instead. However, his hemming and hawing irritated her to no end. That was why she was so insistent.
“Darling, why don’t we sit on the decision for a bit?” Qin Jinhuan didn’t want to lie to her.
“No!”
“Darling—”
“There’s no room for discussion when it comes to this! However, you have two choices.”
Delight rose on Qin Jinhuan’s face. “Please tell me.”
Mu Yu stood up and stared at him with a most grave gaze. “One, you fire her on the spot. Two, I leave.”
Qin Jinhuan’s face fell. “Darling, I can’t—”
“There is no third choice!” Mu Yu glared at him. “Looks like I’ll have to leave,” she muttered before whipping around to make her exit.
“Darling!” Qin Jinhuan wrapped his arms around her. “I promise you that I won’t ever meet with her by myself, and I won’t poke deeper into her business. I’ll treat her as a regular employee. Is that alright?”
Fury roiled in Mu Yu’s belly when she heard that. “Why are you so protective of her? You already paid back your debt to her sister, you know?”
“I’m not being protective of her. I’m just—”
“If you aren’t protecting her, then that means you have other motives toward her! You’re allowing her to stay by your side because you want to give her a chance to seduce you! No, perhaps she’s already seduced you—that must be why you aren’t willing to fire her!”
“What did you say?” Qin Jinhuan was seething as well, his voice unwittingly pitching itself a few notches higher.
Mu Yu was upset by this. “Even if I’m wrong, do you have to get angry at me?”
“Don’t be so unreasonable!”
“And so what if I’m being unreasonable?”
“You…” Having lost his patience at last, Qin Jinhuan sat down furiously. “Kick up a fuss however you like. Suit yourself.”
With that, he then picked up a document before him and began to read it.
Seeing how he ignored her for Yin Anran, Mu Yu was incensed. She twisted the thermos open angrily and poured all of the soup into the garbage bin. She ignored the droplets of soup splashing on the legs of her pants. Qin Jinhuan didn’t even lift his head, as though there was no one else there. His expression was an unbothered one; he would let her do whatever, and he would just ignore her.
“Hmph!” Mu Yu flung the thermos onto his desk hard before swinging the door open to leave. She had only just stepped out when, much to her surprise, she saw Yin Anran sashaying her way over. Mu Yu was utterly incensed that moment, her eyes boring holes right into Yin Anran as she stared hard at her.
At the side, Zhi Xiaoyin realized that things weren’t exactly good, and so she took a step forward in trepidation. Just as she was about to speak, Yin Anran had already greeted Mu Yu.
“Hello, Mrs. Qin.”
Yin Anran’s deferential attitude caught Mu Yu off guard. Unwilling to make her think that she wasn’t polite, Mu Yu inclined her head slightly and replied with a lukewarm ‘hello’.
“Miss Zhi, here’s the proposal that you wanted me to write yesterday. Please take a look at it. If there are any mistakes, please tell me, and I’ll correct them.”
After she handed a folder to Zhi Xiaoyin, Yin Anran flashed a smile at Mu Yu before turning to walk away, leaving Mu Yu with a baffled look on her face.
Zhi Xiaoyin mentally let out a sigh as she watched Yin Anran’s departing figure. She then turned to look at Mu Yu and smiled. “Mrs. Qin, would you like anything to drink? I can—”
“It’s okay; thank you. You should just go about your day.” As she spoke, Mu Yu kept her eyes on the elevator doors that Yin Anran had disappeared behind. She knew deep down that Yin Anran was a master at deception through acting. She guessed that Yin Anran didn’t dare to unleash her true colors on her because of her slap that day. Moreover, Qin Jinhuan was in his office nearby.
Mu Yu couldn’t help but smile coldly at that. She then turned to look at the closed door of Qin Jinhuan’s office as anger rose within her again. She then let out a snort before turning to leave.
She wanted to see what Qin Jinhuan’s decision would be.
She stomped her way into the car and made Qi Han send her to her unit. However, she hadn’t expected to find that Rong Jian and Liu Xiaofan weren’t there, and there was nothing else for her to do at the forensic lab either. This made her already sour mood go downhill even more. Suddenly, she recalled that Feng Rubing was still in the hospital. After some thought, she decided to go there and visit her.
Since it was nearly noon, she called Rong Jian’s number once she got into her car. She initially wanted to ask him what Feng Rubing wanted for lunch so that she could bring it to her. But when the call went through, Rong Jian immediately talked her ear off, telling her all about what happened with Feng Rubing. While she was still startled by Rong Jian’s avalanche of words, Rong Jian continued, “Get over here first. I’m going to play you the recording of the call Li Jianyun made before his death.”
“Okay, I’ll be there right—”
Mu Yu could hear another beep before she could finish what she said; she had yet another incoming call. She took a look and realized that it was from Jiang Wenwen. She was startled by this because this was the fourth time Jiang Wenwen had called while she was on the phone with Rong Jian. Realizing that Jiang Wenwen had something important to tell her, she quickly told Rong Jian, “Chief Rong, I have a call to take. I’ll meet you at the hospital later.” She then hastily cut the call and accepted Jiang Wenwen’s incoming call.
“You finally picked up. I was getting desperate.”
The moment she picked up the call, Mu Yu heard Jiang Wenwen’s extremely flustered voice. Mu Yu was nervous. “Wenwen, what’s wrong?”
“Where are you? I need to see you about a life-and-death matter!”
