My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 211
Chapter 211 The Car Accident
“Hello? Am I speaking to the brother-in-law of the owner of this phone?”
Instantly, the man’s voice made Qin Jinhuan feel uneasy. He asked in return, “What happened to her?”
“She was involved in a car accident—she’s currently stuck in the car.”
“What!?” Qin Jinhuan sprung up. “Where is the accident? Have you called an ambulance?”
“Who was in an accident?!” Mu Yu almost choked on her meal when she overheard the conversation.
Qin Jinhuan ignored her and listened intently to the man’s voice. “It’s at South City Highway on Liu Family’s farmhouse road. I have already called for an ambulance with her cell phone; you should hurry over if you’re her brother-in-law.”
“Is her condition life-threatening?” he asked as he walked briskly.
“I don’t know; I tried nudging her a few times, but she didn’t move. She’s still breathing, though.”
“Then you—hello? Hello?” Filled with exasperation, Qin Jinhuan rushed toward the door after throwing his phone down.
“What happened, Boss?” Hearing the commotion, Bian Zijun and Huang Bo ran out of the car and rushed toward Qin Jinhuan.
“Let’s head to South City Highway.”
“Yes, Boss.” Huang Bo scrambled to start the car immediately.
Bian Zijun didn’t understand what was going on, but he knew that it was definitely something serious. He took out his phone and asked, “Boss, should I call several of our men as well?”
“No.”
“Alright.”
“Did Yin Anran get into a car accident, Huan?” asked Mu Yu as she followed Qin Jinhuan out.
“Yes,” answered Qin Jinhuan. As Huang Bo pulled up, Qin Jinhuan was about to enter the car when he paused and turned around. “Send the Young Mistress back home first,” he ordered Bian Zijun.
“Yes, Boss.” Bian Zijun retreated from the car.
“I want to go along with you.” Mu Yu refused to go with Bian Zijun.
“Be good! Go back and rest well!” advised Qin Jinhuan as he wound down the car window. “If you are hungry, get Aunty Lan to cook something nice for you.”
Mu Yu didn’t insist further and stared at him, sulking.
“Send the Young Mistress back home.” Qin Jinhuan barked out and ordered Huang Bo to start the car.
“Yes, Boss.” Huang Bo could hear the desperation in Qin Jinhuan’s voice; he quickly drove the car out of Lin Sijun’s house and headed toward South City Highway.
Qin Jinhuan looked back and felt a pang of uneasiness when he saw Mu Yu standing at the door, staring in his direction. Nonetheless, he quickly reminded himself that Yin Anran could be in a dangerous situation as he dialed her cell phone; that was why he needed to leave Mu Yu behind.
The three calls he made went straight to voicemail, making him very anxious.
For Qin Jinhuan, it was his responsibility and obligation to take care of Yin Anran; he couldn’t let anything happen to her because Yin Anjing had died for him.
After a while, Huang Bo reached South City Highway and drove quickly toward Liu Family’s farmhouse road.
“Look over there, Boss! There’s an ambulance in the front!”
Sitting up straight, Qin Jinhuan looked over to see an ambulance with flashing lights on the road.
“Further up would be Liu Family’s farmhouse road; I wonder if this ambulance is here for Assistant Yin.” Huang Bo had figured out the reason why they were heading toward South City Highway.
Meanwhile, Qin Jinhuan remained silent and stared straight ahead.
Upon noticing an ambulance not too far in front, Huang Bo slowed down the car.
Before the car had even parked properly, Qin Jinhuan got down from the car and charged straight toward the ambulance.
“Anran? Anran?” He immediately recognized Yin Anran’s car and ran over hurriedly.
Since the car wasn’t wedged together that badly, the medical officers were able to get Yin Anran out of the vehicle before placing her carefully onto a gurney.
At that moment, Yin Anran’s eyes were closed tight; her pale face was covered with blood stains as she lay motionless on the gurney. Shuddering, Qin Jinhuan quickly darted forward and grabbed her hand while calling out her name.
“Please move away. Do not interrupt the doctor’s treatment for the patient,” the nurse on site snapped and shoved Qin Jinhuan away.
Qin Jinhuan nodded and stepped back. He stood behind the doctor and called out Yin Anran’s name repeatedly.
Whether it was the emergency treatment or Qin Jinhuan’s cries, Yin Anran finally stirred awake after a while as she slowly opened her eyes.
“She’s awake!” the medical officers cried out in joy.
Of course, Qin Jinhuan was the happiest. He raised his voice as he called out to her.
“Jinhuan? Where are you, Jinhuan?” Yin Anran sobbed.
“I’m here!”
Qin Jinhuan wanted to push the doctor away, but he was blocked by the nurse again. “Her head has been injured, sir; we need to send her to the hospital to get it bandaged and prevent the wound from getting infected. Her body has to be thoroughly checked for any other injuries as well!”
“Alright! Get going!” Qin Jinhuan got up quickly and moved away.
“Jinhuan! Jinhuan! Please stay with me! I’m really scared!”
“I’m here! Don’t be scared—I’ll always be here for you!” replied Qin Jinhuan as he helped the medical officers to carry the gurney.
When they heard that he was the victim’s brother-in-law, they agreed to let him follow in the ambulance.
“Boss…”
“Follow us from behind,” Qin Jinhuan instructed as the ambulance doors shut.
“Jinhuan.”
“I’m here.” He bent down next to Yi Anran.
Yin Anran clutched his hand and started to weep loudly. “I thought I would never see you again, Jinhuan.”
“What nonsense are you sprouting now?” He held her hand as he comforted her, “There, there—stop crying. Everything’s fine now.”
“I’m so scared, Jinhuan.”
“Don’t worry—you have me here.”
“Jinhuan, my head hurts really badly; am I going to die?”
“Don’t move! Stop talking nonsense!” He held down Yin Anran’s hand to prevent her from touching her head. “You just injured your head, and you…”
Politely interrupting their conversation, the doctor held up his tools and said, “Sir, please let me through. Let us check on her wounds again.”
“Of course.”
As Qin Jinhuan was about to pull away, Yin Anran clung onto him tightly all of a sudden. “Don’t leave, Jinhuan! I’m scared!”
“Don’t be scared. I won’t leave, and I’ll be right here with you.” Qin Jinhuan patted her hand and placed it gently to her side. “Be good and listen to the doctor. Let them check on you properly, and it’ll be fine after that.”
Yin Anran was silenced by his gentle, soothing tone, and she followed the doctor’s orders obediently.
On the other hand, Qin Jinhuan stared at the doctor anxiously, afraid that the doctor would deliver him some bad news that he wasn’t prepared for.
After a few minutes, the doctor packed away his equipment and turned to look at Qin Jinhuan. “At the moment, the victim’s condition seems fine; the only visible lacerations are on her head, but we would still need to go to the hospital for a comprehensive check-up to know for sure.”
“I see. Thank you, doctor.” When the doctor left, Qin Jinhuan shifted back to Yin Anran’s side.
“Jinhuan.” Yin Anran started to cry again as she grabbed his hand.
“Alright, stop crying.” The nurse wanted to wipe off the blood and tears on her face, so Qin Jinhuan reached over to help. “Let me do it,” he said.
As he was wiping off her tears, Qin Jinhuan asked lightly, “What were you doing at Liu Family’s farmhouse road this late?”
Yin Anran sniffed. “I was driving back from West Bay and decided to pass through the farmhouse road, Jinhuan.”
“You went to the hot springs in West Bay?” He was feeling slightly suspicious; he could see that her face was still swollen, and the finger marks on her face hadn’t completely faded yet.
Yin Anran was a very vain person. Logically, she would never go out with a swollen face covered in fingermarks. Besides, the weather was getting really cold lately; driving at night wasn’t really appropriate.
“No, it’s because… Ouch…”
The pained look on her face tugged at his heartstrings, so he beckoned for her to stop talking. “Just get some rest.”
She nodded obediently as she pursed her lips and closed her eyes.
Neither one of them spoke again during the journey to the hospital. The ambulance sent her to the nearest hospital in South City for a check-up and to bandage her wounds. It was already 2.00 AM when Yin Anran was finally sent back to her ward.
“Miss Yin has a mild concussion due to the hard impact on her head from the accident. She has multiple soft tissue injuries; even though none of them are life threatening, I would recommend lots of rest and aftercare,” the doctor instructed Qin Jinhuan before leaving.
As soon as the doctor left, Yin Anran began to sniffle and cry.
“Is it very painful?” he asked as he bent over.
“I’m not afraid of the pain.” She shook her head as she choked up, “I’m just scared.”
“Didn’t you hear the doctor? There’s no life-threatening injuries, so all you need to do is rest.”
“I’m not scared of that.” She sobbed as she pointed at her bandaged forehead and said, “I’m scared that it’ll leave a scar! I did have quite a few stitches earlier.”
“I don’t think there would be a scar; the Aesthetic Department was the one that stitched you up.”
“What if it does? If I really have a scar on my forehead, no one would ever want to marry me.”
“Even so, it would just be a small scar. I’ll take you to get plastic surgery if it bothers you so much.”
“I don’t want plastic surgery! The risk of getting plastic surgery is high; what if they make my scar bigger?”
“Relax, I’ll make sure that nothing bad happens to you.” Qin Jinhuan poured a glass of water and passed it over to her. “Why didn’t you spend the night at West Bay? Why did you drive back in the middle of the night?” he chided her in a serious tone.
“I wasn’t there for the hot springs, Jinhuan; I rushed back because I had some important matters to attend to.”
“What was so important?” He knew that she was a workaholic, so her important matters were usually work related.
Yin Anran averted her gaze and stuttered, “I-It’s… It’s just something important.”
Feeling odd, he continued to ask her, “What matter was so important?”
“I’m feeling hungry, Jinhuan.” She ignored his question and pouted her lips. “I haven’t had my dinner yet.”
He glanced at his watch and frowned. “Why didn’t you have dinner?”
“There was no time—oops!” She covered her mouth with her hands; it was as if those words had unintentionally slipped out of her mouth. She smiled and giggled at him before saying, “Jinhuan,
I’m so hungry that I think I’m going to faint! Could you please buy something for me to fill up my tummy? Jinhuan…”
Since she was injured, he couldn’t refuse to help her; he nodded in response and walked out after getting her to lie down and rest.
When they saw him walk out of the ward, Huang Bo and Cheng Xiang—who had also been waiting outside—tagged along behind him.
He stopped after a few steps and seemed to be in deep thought. Then, he turned around and told Cheng Xiang to get Yin Anran some food. Meanwhile, Huang Bo was asked to find a caretaker.
After they left, he took out his phone and was about to call Mu Yu when he realized that it was already 3.00 AM in the morning. He was worried that he would disturb her sleep, so he put the phone back into his pocket and returned to the ward to wait for Huang Bo. As he was observing the bedridden Yin Anran through the glass window, he realized that she was sitting up and her face looked tense as she was talking on the phone with one hand cupped over it. It was obvious that she didn’t want people to overhear her conversation—he was taken aback.
Just then, she glanced around the window with an alarmed gaze and Qin Jinhuan quickly hid himself. A few seconds later, he peeked through the window and noticed that she was continuing her conversation on the phone with an excited look on her face.
Was that all just a facade to distract him out of the room so that she could have this mysterious phone call? Who was on the other end of the phone?
Suddenly, an ominous wave washed over Qin Jinhuan.
The lingering look she gave him when she left his office flashed through his eyes. All of a sudden, he remembered that Mu Yu was alone at his mother’s place—Bian Zijun had called him three hours ago, reporting that Mu Yu refused to go back home because she insisted on staying there and waiting for him.
Just then, his heart sank.
All at once, he had a reason to believe that Yin Anran’s accident was intentional. Her purpose was obvious—it was to lure him out and target Mu Yu!
His face dropped as he swiftly pushed open the door of the ward.
“Oh my!”
Qin Jinhuan’s unexpected appearance frightened Yin Anran greatly. She was so flustered that she hung up the phone without even saying ‘bye’. When she looked at him, her eyes darted around and she began to stutter. “J-Jinhuan, w-when did y-you come back?”
She was definitely guilty of something!
His gaze turned cold and hard as he darted forward.
