My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 209
Chapter 209 An Adorable Proposal
Under the well-lit streets, there was a 7-foot tall snow castle that was built on the land beside a stretch of wisteria trees. The mini castle was delicate and clear; it looked exactly like an actual castle.
“Watch out, it’s slippery!” Qin Jinhuan followed closely behind Mu Yu as he reminded her.
“Who made this? It can’t be you, can it?” Mu Yu was extremely surprised as she looked around, admiring the whole castle. Qin Jinhuan stood in front of the castle’s ‘grand entrance’ and beamed at her with his eyes narrowed. “Why can’t it be me?”
“This looks like so much work…” Realizing that she should try her best not to offend him for anything, Mu Yu quickly changed the topic. “Did you come here right after you sent me home?”
“No. I went back to the office,” he replied honestly.
Mu Yu then gave him a ‘See, I knew it’ gaze as she grinned and looked at him. “I told you that it’s impossible for you to make this! Even if we don’t consider the fact that this is too much work to be done in such a short time, it isn’t that easy for anyone to just build a castle like this!”
“Come over,” he ordered.
“What?”
“Come on.” She suspiciously walked toward Qin Jinhuan, who had reached his hand out and gestured for her to follow him. When she stepped closer to him, he pressed a secret button that triggered the castle’s doors to open automatically. He then bowed down as he made a polite, welcoming gesture. “Do enter, my darling…”
“Woah!” Mu Yu covered her hands over her mouth. “It’s an automatic door! How did you do that?!”
Qin Jinhuan didn’t answer her question. Instead, he pointed inside as he smiled. “Don’t you want to go in and take a look?”
“Well, of course I’m going to go in. There’s no rush.” She poked her head in curiously. The entrance to the castle was away from the street lamps on the main street, so the lighting inside wasn’t great. Fortunately, the white walls of the castle made it easier for her eyes to adapt to the darkness after a while. Once this happened, she caught a glimpse of two figures—she was stunned for a while before she guessed that they were probably ‘special guests’ invited by Qin Jinhuan. After giving it some thought, she tried calling their names and said, “Wenwen? Zeyu?”
“Wenwen and Zeyu?” Qin Jinhuan burst into a fit of laughter.
“It’s not them?” She turned around, dumbstruck. “It can’t be my mom and dad!” There weren’t many other people who would feel like a surprise to her, after all. Judging by the height of the two figures, she was certain that it was a man and a woman.
“It’s so cold here; how could I get them to wait in here? Keep guessing,” he uttered.
She glanced at the two figures who refused to move in the dark before looking back at Qin Jinhuan’s face. She tried her best to think of an answer, but she finally shook her head cluelessly. The two figures looked very much like her and Qin Jinhuan when looking at their height, yet she didn’t know many couples that matched their height. She initially wanted to guess ‘Xin Yihan and Yin Xiaotian’, but she was afraid that Qin Jinhuan would be displeased if she got it wrong.
“Are you sure you don’t know?” he finally asked.
“I’m sure.” She shook her head.
He chuckled as he began shouting toward the people inside. “Hey! Who are you guys? Hurry up and come over to show your true identities.” He then turned to Mu Yu and said, “Shut your eyes.”
“Huh? What for?” she asked.
Qin Jinhuan gave her a sly look. “Just close your eyes, and you’ll know who they are.”
“Really? Ugh. Stop acting so mysteriously.” Mu Yu obediently shut her eyes despite her verbal protests. She kept rushing him and asked, “Are you done?”
“Don’t be so impatient. On my count… 1… 2… 3…! Okay!” A soothing tune began to play the minute Qin Jinhuan’s sentence ended. Mu Yu quickly opened her eyes before she blinked a few times in response to the bright lights that filled the room. When she finally managed to see everything clearly, she was utterly dumbfounded by what she saw.
The two figures that stood in the middle of the castle weren’t actually people—they were two life-sized ice sculptures of a male and a female! The female wore a plain white gown, and her hand was slightly reaching toward the man as her gaze tilted upward to look at his face. The man, on the other hand, was dressed in a suit with his gaze fixed upon her as he reached his hand out for hers in a gentlemanly fashion. The look they shared between the two of them and the posture they were frozen in made Mu Yu’s heart melt. “It’s so beautiful! Huan…”
“Shh… Look.”
Mu Yu shifted her gaze back to the sculptures. Right then, the bright, white lights began to turn dim before it was replaced by gentle, purple light. It was surrounded by other colorful disco lights that circled around the room. In the midst of the radiant lights, the two ice sculptures began to move! They gradually turned both their bodies to face Mu Yu. “Oh my god! They’re moving!” She glared at them in disbelief, and her jaw was hanging loose with surprise.
The slow, soothing music then picked up its tempo, and the two ice sculptures began to dance along with the music. Although their movements were just simple acts of stepping front and back before turning around, Mu Yu was extremely excited to watch this. “It’s so amazing! These ice sculptures are dancing!”
“Do you find it amazing?” he asked.
“Of course! Don’t you?” Mu Yu felt a little indignant to see how Qin Jinhuan didn’t seem the least bit amused by this. “If this isn’t amazing enough for you, why don’t you design something even better than this for me?”
He held onto her hand and smiled without saying anything. Once she knew that her point had left him speechless, she no longer bothered to say anything and instead turned back to enjoy the ice sculptures’ dance. After a few minutes, the sculptures completed their dance to a single song, and they returned to their positions in the middle of the castle. They went back to the first, loving position they held earlier, but this time, their bodies were much closer. Their hands were now touching, and the guy was holding onto the girl’s hand. The lighting turned rather dim once again, which made the castle seem even dreamier than ever. Mu Yu felt utterly mesmerized by everything that she was surrounded by, and it took her a long moment before she suddenly began to clap. “That was wonderful! Impressive!”
“Go over and take a look.” Qin Jinhuan gently pushed her forward.
“Look at what?” She was a little surprised. He pointed at the sculptures, so she stepped forward to where he had pointed in a rather dazed manner. The castle was back to its bright, white lights by then. Mu Yu looked around the sculptures, but she didn’t seem to see anything that stood out. She turned around to give him a questioning gaze.
“Don’t they look a little familiar to you?” he hinted.
“Familiar?!” She immediately turned back to meticulously glance at both the ice sculptures. The more she looked, the more her eyes lit up with astonishment. She could barely speak. “I-Is t-that… you?!”
Qin Jinhuan stepped toward the ice sculpture and leaned his head close to it. He placed an arm over the sculpture before turning around to glance at her as he made an expression identical to the sculpture’s. “What do you think?”
“Woah!” she exclaimed yet again. “You guys look way too similar!” She then abandoned him and turned away to look at her ‘self’ before she clicked her tongue in amazement. “This is unreal!”
“Darling.” Qin Jinhuan changed his stance as he lowered himself a little while placing one arm on his back and the other reached forward to Mu Yu. “Can I have this dance?”
“Of course!” Mu Yu, who had been too excited, had forgotten all about being reserved and shy as a girl; she quickly reached her hand out and began to dance along to the song that was playing in the background.
“Are you happy, my love? Were you surprised?” His gentle and soothing voice sounded beside her ear. She nodded furiously. “I’m happy! Surprised! I’m overjoyed! I…” Right then, a loud clang interrupted her words. She curiously glanced at the direction it came from. “What’s that sound?” she asked.
“The sound of love.” As Qin Jinhuan spoke, he let go of one of her hands before he reached behind her to produce a fresh bouquet of roses right in front of her eyes. “This is for you, my darling.”
“Woah! Where did those roses come from?!” She was thrilled as she took the roses over.
“That’s classified information.” He teased her.
“Ugh! Can you stop acting so mysteriously?” She playfully gave him a light kick before she happily hugged the bouquet of roses in her arms. She took a deep breath to inhale the scent of the roses before exhaling and letting out a sigh. “It smells so good!”
“Marry me, Yu.” Out of nowhere, Qin Jinhuan pulled a ring out and got onto one knee.
“What?!” Mu Yu was completely shocked by this. She took a few steps back and nearly dropped her roses. “A-Are you proposing to me?”
Qin Jinhuan gave her a meaningful smile. “Although we’re legally husband and wife, I have always owed you a proper proposal. I’m finally making up for it today, alright? Soon, I’ll also host a wedding that we never got the chance to have. I’ll make sure you have no regrets in life, okay?” Mu Yu was still too stunned to respond immediately even after he had finished his speech.
“A wedding?” Mu Yu, who had been immersed in her happiness, was shocked to hear that word. She quickly waved her arms to reject him. “No, no—we can’t do that just yet.”
“Why not?” His face fell. “Don’t you want to get married to me?”
“No, it’s not that! Of course I want to get married to you; I think of it even in my dreams! However, it’s just not the right time to be discussing our marriage! All three of the murders related to Qing Tian Group haven’t been solved, and everyone’s already so worried about it. Now, there’re even malicious people who are trying to use these incidents to start greater problems. We have to prioritize all of these things so that the situation doesn’t get worse. Before we are sure of the murderer’s motives, we have to be extremely cautious; also… You’re not planning to just host a simple and small wedding for me, are you?” she said while forcing him to stand himself up from the ground.
“Of course not!”
“Exactly! I’m afraid that the bad guys might take this chance to do something that will come as another huge shock to us! Furthermore, you’ve been busy with so many things recently; you’re not going to have the time to free yourself up and prepare for the wedding. Now that Madam Feng’s in trouble with the law, Chief Rong might need my help any time, and I won’t be able to mentally prepare myself to be a bride either. Chief Rong, as your best man, might not be in the mood to attend your wedding at a time like this. So…”
Qin Jinhuan interrupted her then. “Is this because you’re affected by what Yin Anran said about you?”
She shook her head after she understood what he was referring to. “Her words don’t matter that much to me; I’m not delaying our wedding because of what she said. Although I’m really excited and glad to receive your proposal, after giving it a little more thought, I think that it’s just not the right time for this to happen now.”
He sighed a little. “This is actually Grandpa’s idea. He wanted to give you a proper, legitimate title before you gave birth to the baby.” He knew what his grandpa had been thinking about all along, but he hadn’t wanted to voice it out in front of Mu Yu as he didn’t want her to think of his grandpa differently. However, in order to assure his grandpa—to show him how much he loved Mu Yu and how they were definitely going to get married—he decided to go along with his grandpa’s wishes.
Mu Yu thought about it for a while before she suggested, “Why don’t you use my pregnancy as an excuse and say that it’s bad for me to overwork myself during this period? This can delay the event a little; perhaps we can solve the case in another few days, right?”
Her words made sense to Qin Jinhuan, so he no longer insisted on his initial plans. It was true that he had a lot of other worries recently; he knew that he wouldn’t be able to plan a perfect wedding during this period of time.
Suddenly, Mu Yu heaved a long sigh before she pointed gloomily toward the castle. “So, this whole surprise was actually Grandpa’s idea, huh?”
“Nonsense! I planned this entire thing out even before the first snowfall; we just had to delay this entire surprise because of all the unexpected things that had happened in the past two days!” he said indignantly.
“That’s odd. The snow outside is starting to melt. Why isn’t it melting here?” she asked.
“That’s because I took some precautionary measures.” He pulled her out of the castle to show her the huge tent that was built on top of the castle. Qin Jinhuan had ordered some people to build a huge ‘refrigerator’ over the tent so that the sculptures wouldn’t melt before she arrived.
“You said that you liked snow and building snowmen, yet I couldn’t fulfil such a simple wish of yours just because I had been too occupied with my work; I’ve always felt guilty about this. Luckily, it snowed in An City this year—I nearly missed out on this opportunity because of all the other silly issues that have been going on. It’s a good thing that I was smart enough to do this.” He chuckled, looking proud of himself.
She didn’t smile at all. Instead, she stared at him as she felt tears welling up in her eyes. He had so many other things to worry about recently, yet he still bothered to remember the tiny wish I had made. How am I supposed to not be touched by this man? Noticing this, he pulled her in for a hug. “This is just a tiny little gift, silly girl. You don’t have to cry over this, do you?”
“Am I not allowed to cry?” She didn’t want to cry, but she felt her nose burning the minute he pulled her into his arms. Her tears began to stream down her cheeks uncontrollably.
“It’s okay—don’t cry! Fine, it’s all my fault. Don’t cry, alright? It’s freezing outside, and your face is going to turn into ice if you cry. Come on, let’s go into the house. I have more surprises for you.” He grinned as he pulled her into the house, acting all mysterious once again.
This time, she no longer attempted to question his intentions. She simply let him lead the way into the house. He immediately brought her to the room upstairs before turning the TV on and pressing her down into a seat on the couch. “I’m going to get things prepared. I’ll come for you later,” he said.
“Is there more preparation needed? I’m starving. Just make it simple!” She rubbed her rumbling belly as she gave him a pitiful look.
“No! Be a good girl and just hold on for a while longer. I’ll be quick.” With that said, he disappeared with a poof and left her alone in the room. It was rare to see him acting so childishly. Extremely amused by it, Mu Yu decided to stay hungry for a while longer just to wait for him.
About 30 minutes later, her phone rang. She picked it up the moment she saw that it was a call from him. “Come down, darling.”
