My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 206
Chapter 206 A Warning
“D-Did you just hit me, Jinhuan?!” Yin Anran couldn’t believe her own eyes. She gave Qin Jinhuan a death glare, her eyes tearing up as she did so.
On the other hand, Qin Jinhuan had a cold look on his face; there wasn’t the slightest hint of warmth in his tone as he said, “How dare you lay hands on my woman? Do you have a death wish?”
Immediately, Yin Anran understood what was going on. She felt her chest burning with rage and had to stop herself from calling Mu Yu a b*tch. With tears in her eyes, she stared at Qin Jinhuan as she asked, “What did she tell you, Jinhuan?”
He side-eyed her emotionlessly as he warned with a clear voice, “I won’t forget this—stay away from her in the future!”
“Jinhuan, how can you simply listen to her side of the story without asking me anything about what really happened? You’re being unfair to me!”
“Get out.”
“Jinhuan!”
“Get out!”
How could someone like Yin Anran—who had never been so humiliated before—just leave when she was told to? Instead, she began sobbing as she stepped forward and tugged on his sleeve. She asked, “Did she act all pitiful in front of you and said that I bullied her? Jinhuan, how can you only listen to her words? How dare you hit me without even giving me a chance to explain myself? This is so unfair to me! Do you know that I was actually the one who suffered? I was the one who got tricked and bullied instead of her!”
“How dare you say that you were the one who suffered?” Qin Jinhuan flung her hand off of him furiously as he continued, “You knew that Yu was pregnant with my child, yet you still attempted to kick her! How dare you?!”
Her voice turned weak as she muttered, “I-I forgot that she was pregnant. I didn’t kick her intentionally! I just…”
“The slap that I’ve given you today will make you remember in the future!” He interrupted her impatiently before he further warned, “If you dare to hold any crooked intentions toward Yu in the future, I’ll never let you off the hook—even if you dig your sister out of her grave!”
“Jinhuan!” Yin Anran was extremely hurt by his heartless words; her tears formed two straight lines down her cheeks as she began to wail her heart out. “Why do you only listen to her? Why don’t you ask me why I had to pick a fight with her? Why don’t you ask me how I got the five-fingered mark on my face?” As she spoke, she combed her long hair aside to show him the other side of her face. Qin Jinhuan initially side-eyed Yin Anran before he turned to look at her directly, catching sight of the faint five-finger mark on her face.
His expression turned into one of confusion. When Zhi Xiaoyin called him, she had only informed him about how Yin Anran attempted to kick Mu Yu and how Zhi Xiaoyin intervened to stop her; there was no mention of Yin Anran getting hit as well.
“Didn’t she tell you that she was the one who started it?” Yin Anran seemed to have found a loophole when she saw the stunned look on Qin Jinhuan’s face. In a split second, she put on a humiliated expression as she wailed and cried out loud. She exclaimed, “You have no idea how terribly swollen my face was in the afternoon. I was still placing ice packs on it before you entered the office earlier!”
She still thought that Mu Yu was the one who had ratted her out to Qin Jinhuan.
“How could Yu possibly be the one to start a fight?!” he exclaimed.
“If she can’t, what makes you think I can? Jinhuan, you watched me grow up. When have you ever seen me making the first move and getting aggressive with others?”
“Why did she hit you?” he asked.
Yin Anran brushed tears out of her eyes and sobbed lightly as she replied to his question with another question. She retorted, “You were aware of how the Chengbei and South City Factory workers went on strike, but you didn’t know that a bunch of workers in the headquarters were planning to resign together, did you?”
His gaze fell still as he asked, “Is there such a thing? Why didn’t anyone report this to me?”
“Because I had gotten everything settled for you! I know that you’ve been troubled by tons of other things recently, so I specifically told Secretary Zhi not to inform you about this as I was afraid it’d only add on to your load of problems. I might have overstepped my boundaries while handling this issue, which was why Mu Yu misunderstood my intentions and slapped me without even giving me a chance to explain myself. She even warned me not to covet her role as the CEO’s wife! Furthermore, she said a lot of other insulting things—you can ask Secretary Zhi if you don’t believe me! I’d never been so humiliated in my entire life, and I was bursting with anger at that point; how was I supposed to remember that she was pregnant? I couldn’t even care about who her husband was right then. I acted so aggressively only for one reason—to reclaim justice for myself!” At this point, her face was filled with resentment and she cried even harder as she continued, “Jinhuan, you have no idea how embarrassed and sad I felt. I was trying to resolve these issues for you and the company out of my own kindness, but she thought I was scheming against her! I was totally misunderstood, Jinhuan!”
Qin Jinhuan glared at her for a long while without responding. He was very well aware of Mu Yu’s personality—her desire to defeat others grew larger whenever she was faced with someone of greater power. After the whole ‘Yin Anran put laxatives into Mu Yu’s meal and got Dong Wanqing to take the blame’ incident, Mu Yu definitely held a grudge against Yin Anran since Jinhuan had attempted to protect Yin Anran while dealing with it. Furthermore, he knew Yin Anran’s style of work—she was high-profiled with everything she did. After spending half a day with Mu Yu, she didn’t mention anything about a conflict between her and Yin Anran. She was also in a fairly good mood apart from being worried about his and Rong Jian’s issues. Based on that, he guessed that Mu Yu was indeed not the loser in this fight.
Conversely, the woman in front of him had her eyes all swollen from crying. A lump had already begun to form on her right cheek, and the five purplish finger marks appeared frightening—this was his doing. Her left cheek wasn’t as swollen, but the finger marks were clear; it was evident that Mu Yu hadn’t gone easy on her earlier. Her unevenly swollen cheeks, her pale-purplish skin tone and her red, swollen eyes turned her into a hideous sight. Qin Jinhuan knew how much Yin Anran cared about her appearance, and he felt bad just looking at her.
Turning his gaze away, he said in a calm manner, “Get some ice for your face. You should rest for a few days before coming back to work.”
Qin Jinhuan was trying to avoid taking responsibility for this issue, and this only made Yin Anran break down in tears yet again. “Jinhuan, you’re my only family member ever since my sister passed away. You’re the closest person to me; you’re the only person that I can trust and depend on in my life! I always thought you’d love and care for me as much as my sister did, but I never expected you to humiliate me as much as you did today! Jinhuan, if my sister in the skies saw what you did to me—the one sibling she worried about the most—don’t you think she’d be devastated? Don’t you think she wouldn’t be able to rest in peace?”
After years of being under Qin Jinhuan’s care, she was well-aware of his soft spots. As expected, the coldness in his gaze dissipated the moment she began to cry about this, and his voice was a lot gentler when he next spoke. “I’ll make sure to further understand this situation. You can go home and rest for now,” he said.
“How will you deal with this if you find out that she was the one who started the fight? How are you going to do me justice when you find out that I didn’t even touch a single strand of hair on her head?”
His gaze lit up with surprise as he asked, “You’re not thinking about hitting her to get even, are you?”
“Jinhuan, you should know that I’m not someone who likes to create trouble! However, you should understand this—I was kind enough to resolve the issues in the company, yet I only got humiliated by others. The embarrassment I suffered is one thing, but she even ratted me out when she was the one at fault! Jinhuan, both my cheeks are hurting from the two slaps I received! It isn’t just the physical pain that I feel; my feelings are extremely hurt as well! Do you know that I’d be too ashamed to continue living if I don’t unleash my resentment? I might as well just meet my sister in the afterlife then!” she wailed pitifully. With that said, she held onto both sides of her cheeks. Her eyes were filled with sorrow as she continued, “If I meet my sister looking like this, she might not even be able to recognize me!”
She was being overly dramatic with her cries at this point, and it made Qin Jinhuan feel rather annoyed. He simply gestured for her to leave as he uttered, “Alright, stop crying. Go back and get some rest.”
“I want to cry! I’m going to cry! You’re too heartless, Jinhuan! I hate you! I hate you!” Although she said that she hated him, she had already thrown herself into Qin Jinhuan’s arms and was rubbing her body against his as she cried. She used to do this in the past; she’d whine and ask for his attention whenever she felt wronged or humiliated.
“Are you done making a fuss?!” he shouted.
Yin Anran staggered backward after he shoved her away from him; she then froze right in place. He used to comfort and coo me gently whenever I cried in the past. Why isn’t it working this time?! No! I don’t believe that he can be so heartless!
Seeing that he had sat down and was glancing through some files, Yin Anran lowered her head and tried to gather her emotions before she lifted her head up. Her eyes were watery as she bit onto the side of her red lips and walked toward him, looking like a young mistress who had been wronged. With a weak voice, she called out to him and said, “Jinhuan.”
However, he didn’t even lift his head up. He was ‘focused’ on his documents, and it seemed almost as if he didn’t hear what she had said.
She called him once again and was disappointed when he still didn’t respond to her. After some thought, she changed her words and asked in a pitiful tone, “Jinhuan, why don’t you come over and visit me tonight? It’s been a long while.”
“I’m busy.”
“Well, maybe the next few days…”
“Send in the contract that I asked you to print out yesterday.” He made an internal phone call, interrupting her words as he did so. This only made her more resentful than ever, and she quickly grabbed onto his arm the minute he ended the call. “Jinhuan, you promised my sister that you’d take care of me and be by my side forever! How could you…”
Knock knock. The light knock on the door was accompanied with Zhi Xiaoyin’s voice from the outside. “Boss?”
Qin Jinhuan recalled the orders that he had given to Bian Zijun and answered, “Come in.”
“Jinhuan…” Yin Anran wailed. She didn’t have a choice once Zhi Xiaoyin entered; she could only keep quiet while lowering her head. After all, she didn’t want Zhi Xiaoyin to see her in such a mess.
“It’s the contract that you’ve requested for, Boss.” Zhi Xiaoyin hastily made her way to him and carefully pulled the contract out of the file before placing it in front of Qin Jinhuan. Yin Anran, who could sense that Zhi Xiaoyin was quietly judging her, pretended to act in a casual manner as she messed around with her own hair so that it would fall forward and cover her red and swollen face. With her head lowered, she stepped out of the room resentfully.
Qin Jinhuan’s gaze remained on the contract as he asked, “Did you print it according to my orders?”
“Yes. It’s exactly what you asked for.” Zhi Xiaoyin responded in a soft voice as she hesitatingly looked away from the girl who had just left.
“What exactly happened earlier this morning?” Qin Jihuan placed the contract down the moment Yin Anran left—he didn’t need this contract to be printed and had simply called for Zhi Xiaoyin to come in because he wanted to get rid of Yin Anran.
Once Zhi Xiaoyin understood what her boss meant, she quickly gave a detailed explanation of everything she knew about the incident.
“So, it’s really true that Yu was the first to pick a fight?”
Zhi Xiaoyin hesitated for a moment before she nodded honestly. She then added, “I think it might’ve been Assistant Yin who said something about Mu Yu first.” She didn’t dare to blame anyone, yet she didn’t dare to hide the truth.
“You think?”
“It was Assistant Yin who first called Mu Yu a ‘jinx’. Mu Yu then gave her a slap, but it seemed like she just wanted to give Assistant Yin a lesson, so she didn’t slap her too harshly.”
Zhi Xiaoyin hadn’t managed to tell him the whole story earlier before Qin Jinhuan ended the call, so she felt really anxious about it. Although Yin Anran had attempted to hide herself earlier, Zhi Xiaoyin saw the injury on her face and felt even more worried—she thought that Yin Anran would’ve only gotten a lecture if she hid the fact that Yin Anran had intentionally kicked Mu Yu in the stomach. After all, Yin Anran didn’t really hurt Mu Yu; Zhi Xiaoyin was the one who got hurt, and she had already planned to shrug this whole incident off.
Zhi Xiaoyin was afraid to think about the impact she had made with her words; it was her duty to report such incidents to the CEO. She covered things up for both sides as she hoped that it’d result in less of a fuss, but she hadn’t expected…
Sigh…
“She called Yu a jinx?!” Qin Jinhuan was furious. Any pity that he had felt for Yin Anran completely disappeared.
“I guess it was just the way Assistant Yin phrased her words; I don’t think she had any bad intentions, but…”
“How’s your waist injury?”
“It’s no big deal. Assistant Yin didn’t use that much force either!” Noting the dark expression on her boss’s face, Zhi Xiaoyin endured the pain she felt in her waist area and straightened herself up before putting on a smile.
“Go get it checked at the doctors; claim your medical fees from the company.”
“I’m really fine, and I don’t need to see the doctor.” She was afraid that the boss would only be more furious at Yin Anran if he knew how rough she had been with her.
“You have to report such things to me immediately if it ever happens in the future.”
“Alright, I’ll take note of this.”
“You can leave now.”
“Okay.” Zhi Xiaoyin hurried out and only heaved a sigh of relief once she left the CEO’s office.
The third murder incident and the issue with the factory’s dorm collapsing and killing several people were two events that shook the entire company. It was a Monday, and her role as the CEO’s secretary left her with a heavy workload that nearly made Zhi Xiaoyin lose her mind. Despite this, she managed to gauge the importance of each of her tasks; she decided to only call her boss in the afternoon, thinking that he’d be done dealing with the Chengbei Factory incident. This issue was less important since Mu Yu didn’t get injured. She had been worried when she heard how furious her boss was when he spoke, but she was glad that he hadn’t blamed her either.
I’ll have to be more careful in the future, she told herself.
Meanwhile, Qin Jinhuan was leaning against his chair with his eyes shut; he was deep in thought when his office door flung open.
“Huan! You have to see this!” Wen Zeyu rushed into his room.
