My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 205
Chapter 205 A Man Who Keeps His Wife Company
“C-Chief Rong?” She stuttered while answering the call.
“Yu, what was the hypothesis you had about the underlying reason for Rubing to reject me?”
So this is what it’s about, thought Mu Yu as she relaxed slightly. After contemplating for a moment, she said, “Even though she likes you, my guess is that Madam Feng probably rejected you because of her own hidden issues—she could be suffering from a traumatic experience during her own childhood or something like that. This can also explain why she’s especially strict toward Qiqi now.” As she spoke, she felt Qin Jinhuan’s gaze landing on her. She then chuckled and scratched her head before she added, “This is just my own guess.”
However, the man on the other end of the call seemed much more serious as he only spoke up after a moment of silence. “I might need to visit her hometown just to look around.”
“Wasn’t Madam Feng a graduate of An University? I didn’t know she wasn’t a local.” Mu Yu realized how silly her words sounded only after she said it out loud, so she giggled lightly again.
Rong Jian clearly didn’t pay any attention to her choice of words, for he still spoke with a serious tone as he continued, “She isn’t local, but I’m not exactly sure which town she was from. I’ll need some help from the Department of Household Registration to locate this. Well, that’s about it, Yu—I have to get back to work now.”
“Alright.” Upon ending the call, Mu Yu caught Qin Jinhuan stifling a laugh beside her. Throwing him a side-glare, she said indignantly, “I think my hypothesis makes sense—doesn’t it?” Nonetheless, she seemed a little down after saying those words and added, “At the same time, I don’t hope for my hypothesis to be right. Although Madam Feng acts cold toward everyone, I think she was still pretty decent to me.”
“Perhaps that’s why she’s so cold to others,” he said.
“That’s what I’m worried about,” she said with a sigh. With a more reserved tone, she then asked, “If Madam Feng was indeed mentally or physically abused as a child, do you think Chief Rong would still accept her after finding out about it?”
“It’s hard to tell.”
“I don’t think Chief Rong would care about such things. I think what he truly cares about is just Madam Feng as a person,” she uttered.
“That’s because you don’t know him well.” He disagreed.
“Could Chief Rong be a Virgo?” She wondered out loud.
“Do you know much about horoscopes?”
“No,” answered Mu Yu as she shook her head. “However, Wenwen used to say that girls should never find a Virgo boyfriend for themselves; that’s because Virgos are perfectionists and are extremely fastidious. Wenwen even found it hard to get along with such people since she was so carefree and easygoing. Is Chief Rong really a Virgo?”
“Yes. You’re right.”
“Wenwen also mentioned that Virgos typically lack self-confidence and organizational abilities; I don’t see any of these weaknesses in Chief Rong!”
“Didn’t you say ‘typical’? Well, Rong Jian is quite outstanding compared to ‘typical’ Virgos.”
With her head slightly tilted, Mu Yu began to make sense of the whole situation. “Wenwen also mentioned that Virgos are mostly humble, and they usually enjoy being busy; they can’t sit around without doing anything and their goal is always to serve and provide for others. Chief Rong has all of these good traits. Ah, if he’s really a Virgo, he’d be extremely depressed if he ever finds out that something happened to Madam Feng in the past! Their relationship would… Ouch! Why did you smack me on the head?”
“You’re always worried about others. Why don’t you worry about yourself for once instead?” He protested.
She pouted as she argued, “I’m perfectly fine now. What’s there to be worried about?”
“Aren’t you hungry?”
“What? N-No… not really.” She chuckled softly.
“Really? Why is your tummy rumbling then?”
“I guess it must be trying to say ‘hi’ to you.”
“Since when did you get so good with words, huh?” Qin Jinhuan laughed out loud as he ruffled her hair before bringing his arm around her shoulder in one smooth gesture. She then leaned her head against his shoulder as she giggled and said, “I learned it all from Mr. B-Qin.”
“Mr. B-Qin?”
“It’s Mr. B-e-a-s-t Qin, to be exact.”
“Beast Qin?” By the time Qin Jinhuan got the joke, Mu Yu had already escaped from his embrace. She was giggling as she ran into True Love Western Restaurant, where she found them a seat beside the window.
“How many times have we been here already?” Qin Jinhuan asked as he took a seat opposite her.
“Three times? Four? I don’t remember.” After ordering for both him and herself, Mu Yu thought about the factory workers going on strike and quickly gave him a reminder. “You should give Zeyu a call to ask about the situation at South City Factory, shouldn’t you?”
“He’ll call me if anything happens.”
“By the way, you haven’t answered my previous question—why did you agree to triple the amount of salary for the Chengbei Factory workers, but not those in South City Factory? Is it because the work at South City Factory is not as rushed?” she asked.
“No, that’s because people have been starting to spread rumors about the whole incident with Chengbei Factory’s dorm; the increase in salary is just a temporary way to comfort the workers.”
“I see. Did they manage to find the people who started those rumors?”
“They’re still working on it.” At this point, Qin Jinhuan lowered his gaze in order to conceal the glint of fury in his gaze. He could already guess who the person was, but he needed the evidence to prove himself right.
“Well, hopefully they’ll hunt the person down soon. Otherwise, he might just continue creating more rumors.” Especially since these three murder cases aren’t going to be solved any time soon, she thought to herself.
“He won’t get the chance to do that.” With that, Qin Jinhuan switched the topic and said, “I’ll send you home later; you should get some rest once we’re done with our food.”
“What about you?”
“I’ll be going back to the company.”
“Oh.” With a cheeky grin on her face, Mu Yu attempted to negotiate with him and said, “Why don’t you send me back to the unit instead? You can pick me up after work, and we can go home together…”
“No! You’ve been out the whole afternoon, and Grandpa has already phoned me a couple of times just to tell me that I have to send you back after lunch.” Just then, Qin Jinhuan’s phone rang right as he was talking. He gave a snort of laughter once he pulled his phone out and looked at it. Turning the screen around to show Mu Yu, he said, “Look, Grandpa’s calling to rush me again.”
He picked the call up and mumbled, “Yeah. We’re still eating. Soon. I’ll send her back after our meal. I got it.” After a few more grunts and ‘OK’s, he ended the phone call and grinned at Mu Yu. “He’s talking about how the roads are becoming slippery and how I must take good care of you. I think Grandpa’s blood pressure is going to shoot right up if you don’t head home soon.”
With a hand placed on her flat stomach, she sighed and uttered, “It’s hard to be a pregnant lady, but it’s even harder to act like one, huh.”
“It’s hard to be a waitress too.”
“Huh?” Confused by his sudden statement, she subconsciously turned to look around at the hall. Much to her surprise, there were a few waitresses standing in one straight line; their gazes were all fixed on her table. Shocked, she turned to glare at Qin Jinhuan as she whispered, “Why do you have to be so good-looking? You’re making it stressful for me to even have a meal with you.”
“They’re hinting at you to finish your meal a little faster so that they can get off work earlier.”
She glanced at her watch to see that it was nearly half past two in the afternoon. Surprised, she exclaimed, “How is it so late already? That explains why I’m so hungry. Oh, I have to hurry up, or the waitresses are going to hate me for this.”
Soon after, a waitress brought her meal over. Mu Yu picked up her cutleries to dig in immediately. “Slow down! Slow down!” Seeing that she had nearly choked on her food, Qin Jinhuan hurriedly passed her a glass of water. He had just been joking about the waitresses, but he hadn’t expected her to be so serious about it.
“You should hurry up too! It’d be bad if we’re the reason their breaktime gets delayed!” Mu Yu lowered her head and continued gobbling her food once she finished talking. He was rather amused by the sight of her stuffing her own mouth, so he took his phone out and snapped a few pictures.
“Hey! What are you taking these pictures for?!” Recognizing how much of a mess she must’ve seemed as she was eating, Mu Yu used the knife and fork in her hands to cover her face as she couldn’t place it down in time to avoid getting her picture taken.
“To share it on my social media, of course.”
“Don’t you dare!” She pointed a fork toward him, but quickly realized that her statement didn’t seem too threatening. She therefore added, “If you share such ugly pictures of your wife eating on your social media, you’re the one that’s going to be embarrassed.”
“I don’t find you embarrassing.”
“But you’re still not allowed to post it! You’re invading my rights to privacy! Alright, alright—no more fooling around. Don’t ruin my appetite; hurry up and eat since the waitresses are waiting to get off work.” She only continued to eat her food once she saw that he had kept his phone away.
Qin Jinhuan chuckled as he picked his cutleries up to start eating. He was actually flooded with a ton of work, but he took some time off to pick Mu Yu up just because he wanted to have lunch with her. After all, he felt like it had been a while since they last ate together. When he spoke to her on the phone earlier and heard that she was heading to the hospital with Rong Jian to visit Feng Qiqi, he suddenly thought of how Rong Jian had mentioned something about Feng Qiqi’s birthday when he had asked him to order the Ali the Fox plushie a few days ago. It sounded like Rong Jian had completely forgotten about this, so Qin Jinhuan ordered Bian Zijun to purchase a cake nearby and brought it to the hospital along with the plushie. He brought Mu Yu out for lunch after preparing and passing the gifts over, but he didn’t realize that everything would take up so much time.
After the meal, he proceeded to send Mu Yu home. On the way back, he thought about how concerned Grandpa was with her and reminded her yet again to be cautious so that Grandpa wouldn’t find any loopholes with their story. He then edged closer to her ear and teased, “You should get some rest at home and wait for me to be back at night.”
“Ugh.” She shoved him away and pretended to be angry at him.
“What? Don’t you like…”
The sound of his phone’s ringtone interrupted their conversation, and Qin Jinhuan chuckled as he pulled his phone out to answer the call. Because of all the events that had been going on recently, Mu Yu was especially sensitive toward the sound of phone ringtones, and her gaze quickly darted over to the screen of his phone.
“It’s Secretary Zhi.” He casually waved his phone screen in front of her face, showing her the caller ID before he picked it up. She felt more at ease then, so she simply slumped into her car seat
while glancing at the scenery outside, where snow had covered everything with a blanket of white. However, she didn’t realize as Qin Jinhuan’s face darkened.
“Whoa! That’s a beautiful snow princess! Look at that, Huan!” She sat herself upright and cried in joy as she looked out the window. Qin Jinhuan had just ended his call then, and he subtly adjusted the expression on his face before he looked out of the window.
“It’s not too bad.”
“What do you mean, ‘not bad’? Isn’t it a decently built snow princess? Ah, what a shame.” The snowman had disappeared from their field of vision and she leaned back against the car seat disappointedly. He simply held onto her hand and smiled without saying anything more. Mu Yu seemed to have realized that there was something on his mind, so she kept quiet as well. The two of them remained silent until he dropped her off at home. Without getting out of the car, he simply lowered his car window, gave her a few reminders and watched her walk into the house before he got Bian Zijun to start the car and drove off.
On the way back to the company, Qin Jinhuan spent most of his time resting with his eyes shut. When he received a call from Wen Zeyu and found out that the workers had all calmed down and returned to their own jobs and stations, the news didn’t even put a smile on his face as everything had gone according to his plan.
…
“Secretary Zhi.”
“Boss?” Zhi Xiaoyin, who had her head buried in her work, jumped out of her seat and stood upright fearfully the minute she saw Qin Jinhuan in front of her. “What do you need me to do?”
“Send Assistant Yin over to my office.” Ever since Mu Yu had expressed her dissatisfaction, Qin Jinhuan shifted Yin Anran’s office to a different floor so that she wouldn’t be working in his office any longer. Nonetheless, he had allowed her to keep her position as his assistant.
“Boss…”
“Hurry up!”
“Oh, okay.” Upon recognizing that Qin Jinhuan was in a bad mood, Zhi Xiaoyin hastily nodded and swiftly darted into the lift.
“I don’t want anyone apart from Yin Anran to enter my office without my permission.” Qin Jinhuan walked into his office after he finished speaking, while Bian Zijun and Cheng Xiang were left staring at one another.
Soon enough, Yin Anran strode into his office, her footsteps light and easy and her hips twisting from one side to another as she walked. Once she saw him standing in front of the window with his hands crossed, she went over and spoke in a sweet, flirty tone. She chirped, “Were you looking for me, Jinhuan?”
Smack! Without saying anything, Qin Jinhuan landed a tight slap on her face, leaving her dumbstruck.
