My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 185
Chapter 185 Unscrupulous Parents
“Dad, we didn’t know about Xi’s condition before this.” Before Mu Yu and Qin Jinhuan could get to the first floor for a better look, they heard Qin Wentao’s sneery voice.
Why is he here? Mu Yu looked at Qin Jinhuan in shock, but he was expressionless as if he had predicted Qin Wentao’s visit.
When they went downstairs, they heard Dong Yueyun’s fawning voice. “Yeah, you can’t blame this on us. Xi never told us about it before.”
She earned another round of scolding from Qin Xiaozhi. “Are you saying that Xi is the only one at fault?”
“Well…”
“Grandpa, it’s my fault! I’m the one to be blamed!” Qin Chengxi sobbed and volunteered to bear all the responsibility. “It’s my fault for not knowing basic biology. My parents had nothing to do with it. The snow is too heavy out there, so please don’t make them leave.”
“Yes, yes, Xi was right. She was the one who didn’t know…”
“Shut up!” Qin Xiaozhi irritatedly cut off Qin Wentao. “Is there something wrong with your brain? Don’t you get that Xi was helping you out? I’d consider her super unlucky to have irresponsible parents like you! Thank goodness Huan and Yu interfered at the right time. If not, Xi’s entire life would be ruined in your hands!”
“It wasn’t that serious,” Dong Yueyun explained with a nervous chuckle. “We have always cared about Xi and we ask for her opinion in everything. It’s not Wentao and my idea to turn her into a male. It was the doctor who told us that Xi’s body is more wired toward a male’s. That’s why…”
“What f*cking b*llshit is that? Which useless doctor told you that?” Qin Xiaozhi who was always gentlemanly now cursed in extreme rage. “Give me the name now! I would like to ask this doctor about the treatment for my granddaughter!”
Dong Yueyun immediately shut up after being yelled at and she looked at Qin Wentao in embarrassment. Taking a small step forward, Qin Wentao shielded his wife behind himself and nonchalantly replied to Qin Xioazhi, “Dad, Xi has become a female as she wished. It’s pointless to dig into the past to find fault.”
“She could not have become a female without Huan and Yu’s help! Do you think that I know nothing because I rarely leave the house? You knew very well that a surgery that turns her into a male would hurt her even more given her health condition. But you still cold-heartedly insisted that she undergo that surgery! How can you call yourself her parents? Even a tiger wouldn’t eat its cub. You’re worse than animals!”
“Dad, isn’t that too unfair?” Feeling wronged, Qin Wentao attempted to defend himself. “I insisted on a son because you heavily prefer males! If only you could treat sons and daughters the same, I wouldn’t have had to keep Xi’s body condition from you!”
“So, at the end of the day, it’s my fault. Is that what you’re saying? You jerk!” Qin Xiaozhi’s temper flared and instantly waved his walking stick in the air to hit Qin Wentao on the head.
“Grandpa, no!”
“Boss, you can’t hit him!”
Yu Zhongguang, Qi Hao and a couple of others rushed forward to pull back Qin Xiaozhi who was out of control.
These men had been working for Qin Xiaozhi over many years and knew that the old man still cared about Qin Wentao very much. After all, Qin Wentao was his only son whose growth he had witnessed. Unfortunately, he was utterly disappointed and resentful at his useless only son. Therefore, he always put on a sullen face whenever he met with his son in person.
As for Qin Chengxi, she had already opened her arms wide to shield her parents with her feeble body while crying and pleading at Qin Xiaozhi. Even though they were unqualified as parents, she had never thought of hating them because they gave birth to her and raised her. Most importantly, she was ultimately not forced to turn into a male and things were good now.
“I’m just telling the truth out loud! If he doesn’t have a bias against girls, I wouldn’t have had to worry so much!” Qin Wentao was frustrated as well and couldn’t stop himself from talking.
“Daddy, I beg you to stop.” Qin Chengxi was scared that her dad would further provoke grandpa and hurriedly stopped him. When she failed at it, she turned around immediately to get help from her mom. “Mommy, can you talk him out of it? Tell him to stop.”
The usually obedient Dong Yueyun did not attempt to stop Qin Wentao. Instead, she stared intently at Qin Xiaozhi with a glimmer of anticipation in her eyes.
She understood the meaning behind her husband’s words. The reason behind his repeated mentions of gender bias was to push the old master to declare that he’d treat grandsons and granddaughters the same. In that case, there would be hope for Xi to inherit half or even slightly less than half of the Qin Family wealth, which would be a relief for them. As long as Xi could get her inheritance, Dong Yueyun was fine with anything. She had absolute confidence to control Xi.
However, Qin Xiaozhi’s response was disappointing to them. Not only did he not express his stance, he also violently freed himself from Yu Zhongguang and Qi Hao’s grip, aiming his walking stick at Qin Wentao for another blow.
“Old Master, you can’t do that!”
“Boss, you can’t!”
“Get out of my way, all of you!” Qin Xiaozhi was trembling in anger.
“Grandpa, don’t be angry. You’ll only ruin your health.” A worried Mu Yu hurried out from behind the screen. She had been hiding behind a screen that separated her and Qin Jinhuan from the living room. As Qin Jinhuan and the others were agitated, they were unaware of the two behind the screen.
“The pills… The pills are here.” Li Xianglan frantically came in with a glass of water and some pills. “Old Master, don’t be angry. Take your pills now.”
“Why do I need to take pills? I’m going to be dead from my heartache sooner or later anyway!” When Qin Xiaozhi was talking, he raised his arm and accidentally hit Li Xianglan’s arm.
“Oh! Look out!”
The sound of glass shattering was heard when the glass of water was smashed onto the floor. The pills slid away between Li Xianglan’s fingers and were nowhere to be found.
At the same time, Qin Xiaozhi’s expression suddenly contorted as he clutched tightly at his chest.
“Grandpa! Are you alright?” Mu Yu panicked. Qin Jinhuan could tell that grandpa was not looking well and immediately had Qi Han call Lei Zhi. When he was at it, he glared hostile at Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun, gritting his teeth as he rebuked, “Why are you still here? Get lost!”
Qin Wentao initially panicked when he saw his father’s sudden discomfort, but Qin Jinhuan’s rebuke provoked him and he retorted furiously, “Qin Jinhuan, is this your attitude to your father?”
“Does it matter that you’re my father?” Qin Jinhuan smirked and pointed at his grandpa. “Don’t you know that it was you who made grandpa turn out this way?”
“Y-You can’t blame me for that!”
“Are you saying that it’s all grandpa’s fault?”
“I…”
Qin Xiaozhi cut them off with a yell, “Stop entertaining him. Just drive them out of this house!”
“Grandpa, don’t be angry. Don’t get agitated. You have to take care of your body.” Qin Chengxi could tell that Qin Xiaozhi had been losing his breath from his speech. She was very worried and had no time to care about her parents. She joined Mu Yu to lift grandpa and to advise him.
Qin Jinhuan glared coldly at Qin Wentao. For the first time in his life, he listened to his grandpa’s instructions. He then aloofly ordered Bian Zijun and other men who were guarding at the door, “See them out!”
Qin Wentao understood what that meant and he snorted, “Save the trouble! I’m leaving on my own!”
“Wentao…” Dong Yueyun sighed and followed behind him reluctantly. Then, she unhappily stopped to turn around. Just then, Mu Yu was helping Qin Xiaozhi to sit down beside the sofa with Qin Jinhuan and Qin Chengxi by their side. Upon seeing that, she hurriedly waved toward her daughter. “Xi, come over!”
“M-Mommy?” After some hesitation, Qin Chengxi wiped away her tears and approached her mom meekly. Dong Yueyun yanked her closer and whispered something in her ear while having her eyes fixed on Qin Xiaozhi and Qin Jinhuan. However, Qin Jinhuan ignored her movements and only focused on making sure that grandpa took the new pills that Qi Hao brought over.
“Grandpa, lie down for a bit. Don’t be agitated.” Mu Yu carefully helped Qin Xiaozhi into a half-lying position on the sofa.
“Don’t worry. I’m fine. I will be okay after resting for a while.” Qin Xiaozhi waved his hand with little energy. Then, he let out a heavy sigh.
The helpless and bitter sigh brought heartache to Mu Yu. She subconsciously lifted her head to take a look at Qin Jinhuan and noticed that he was glaring in the direction of the door with a grave expression. She immediately followed his gaze and saw Qin Wentao and Dong Yueyun disappearing from the door.
“Grandpa, I’m sorry,” Qin Chengxi returned to Qin Xiaozhi’s side and timidly apologized on behalf of her parents. With his eyes gently closed, Qin Xiaozhi did not bother to look at his granddaughter and merely waved his hand. “What did your mom say to you?”
“She said… Well…” Qin Chengxi was stammering because she was afraid to provoke grandpa again with her mom’s words. She was also not a good liar and was at a loss for words. Qin Jinhuan thus snorted and took over. “Did she tell you to make grandpa happy and get into his favor in order to get more inheritance?”
Qin Chengxi was astonished. “Huan, did you overhear everything?”
Qin Xiaozhi sighed and continued, “Who couldn’t tell your parents’ thoughts?”
Upon hearing that, she apologized guiltily, “Grandpa, Huan, I’m sorry. My parents…”
Qin Xiaozhi shook his head and caressed her hand while sighing. “Foolish child. This has nothing to do with you. If we are talking about apology, I should be the one who apologizes. I didn’t care enough for you. I shouldn’t have favored sons more than daughters. It was all my fault that you went through so much.”
Qin Chengxi shook her head in tears. “Grandpa, don’t say so. It’s not your fault and I didn’t go through much suffering like you said. To be fair, my parents care about me, but they couldn’t really show it because they are too busy. As for forcing me into the surgery, they are not really at fault too. After all, they had been raising me as a son over these years. My sudden gender change must have been unacceptable to them. If we were to blame someone, we should blame my body for its odd features.”
“What a kind kid. It’s my fault for not bringing up your dad properly.” With tears all across her face, Qin Xiaozhi turned to face Qin Jinhuan. “Huan, I hope that you and Yu will take good care of Xi in the future. This kid is too weak and is as thin as a monkey. It would take a few years to get her back to full health.”
Mu Yu immediately stated, “Grandpa, don’t worry. Huan said that he would take good care of Xi.”
“That’s a relief.” Qin Xiaozhi let out a long sigh again but this time, it was one filled with satisfaction. He was glad not merely because Qin Jinhuan cared for Xi, but also because his eldest grandson finally shared his viewpoint on that matter, which was an incredibly rare occurrence before that day.
Soon, Lei Zhi who was staying in the neighborhood rushed over and performed a checkup. He assured them that Qin Xiaozhi was fine but needed some rest. Since it was lunch time, everyone had lunch together. After that, Mu Yu and Qin Chengxi helped Qin Xiaozhi back to his room and stayed to chat with him until he got tired. The two women finally left his bedroom for the living room downstairs.
When Mu Yu saw that Qin Jinhuan was staring blankly at the bowl of Laba porridge in front of him, she took a seat by him and softly comforted him.
Before this, they had agreed to visit Tai Cemetery Park today but the heavy snow canceled their plans. Mu Yu also made a call to Rong Ying to cancel her appointment for a body checkup today without knowing about Rong Ying’s incident last night.
Qin Jinhuan shook his head at Mu Yu with a smile and told her that he was fine.
At the same time, Shang Qi had arrived at the residence and was greeted happily by Qin Chengxi who looked surprised. She brushed away the snowflakes on his shoulders with affection and grumbled that he should not have come all the way in the middle of a heavy snowfall.
Mu Yu observed their interactions and smiled to herself in secret. After greeting Shang Qi, she dragged Qin Chengxi upstairs to give some space to the two youngsters.
Snowflakes were still whirring outside the window, turning the entire city into a winter wonderland. In the room, Mu Yu and Qin Jinhuan cuddled and watched TV on the sofa. They chatted in low voices. It was a cozy scene in the bedroom.
Due to the extreme cold and the never-ending snowfall on a Saturday, the two did not step foot out of the house at all. On top of that, grandpa and Xi needed to recuperate. Therefore, everyone had an early dinner in the evening and retreated to their own rooms. Because they did not get enough sleep the day before, they went to bed early. After some intimacy, they fell asleep early.
It was Sunday the next day and even though both of them were awake before seven in the morning, none was willing to get out of bed. They snuggled under the sheets until Mu Yu’s phone rang. She saw that it was a call from Rong Jian and accepted it.
“Yu, come over to Qing Tian Shopping Mall’s construction site right now!”
Mu Yu felt nervous at his command. “Did something happen?”
“Yes. A murder.”
