My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 174
Chapter 174 Helping Yihan
When Mu Yu opened the box, she saw something that was surprising yet embarrassing.
Isn’t this too suggestive?
One thing was for sure—it was not from Xin Yihan, for he would never buy her something like that. Who would it be then?
She looked shyly at the two items in the box. If Qin Jinhuan had not been angry at her, she’d definitely suspect that he sent the items to tease her; however, he probably did not have the mood to do so at the moment.
In order to figure out the mastermind behind this delivery, she awkwardly emptied the contents of the item onto the bed to thoroughly search for clues. However, even after taking apart the two items, she could not find any information about the sender.
During the search process, the words from Jiang Wenwen’s lewd text appeared in front of Mu Yu’s eyes, and she had an answer. She threw the items back onto the bed and called Jiang Wenwen on her phone, demanding to know if the latter had sent her the parcel.
“Have you received it? Wow, Yihan’s express delivery is indeed efficient. I had only placed the order ten minutes ago, and they’ve delivered it to you! How is it? Is my service thoughtful?” She was chuckling.
“Who needs your thoughtful service?” Mu Yu blushed and softly rebuked, “Who needed you to buy those items? It’s not like I’d use them.”
“Huh? Don’t you want to save Yihan?”
“I do! I just don’t want to save him by using seduction as a strategy. I want to explain to Huan. If he’s willing to listen, the problem will be solved.”
“Hey! Mu Yu! Answer me. You’ve already registered your marriage with Young Master Qin for a few months. During these few months, you must be aware of the development of your relationship. Do you really want to force him to find other women out there?”
“What are you talking about?” Mu Yu blushed at Jiang Wenwen’s direct accusation.
“What’s there to be shy about? Sexual desire is part of human nature, and that’s not a viewpoint held only by me alone! That’s enough. Stop dilly-dallying. Take a shower and wait for Young Master Qin to come home and give him a huge surprise. Alright, I have something going on so I can’t talk to you. Bye.”
Jiang Wenwen seemed to be reminded of something and added, “Yu, Yihan’s fate is in your hands. You are the root of this problem, and you have to take full responsibility!”
Mu Yu defeatedly ended the call and stole a few glances at the items on the bed. It was close to 9 p.m. After some hesitation, she finally gathered the items and entered the bathroom.
In the bathroom that was shrouded in steam, she checked the items for a long time. Although she felt embarrassed, she still put them on and added a night robe on herself.
She was the only one in the huge room, but she tiptoed out of the bathroom stealthily and dashed to the bed, where she wrapped herself in a blanket. After that, she could finally let out a sigh as if she was being watched in the room.
After she changed, it was only 9:30 p.m., which was half an hour before Qin Jinhuan’s return.
Don’t come home early. It’s best if you don’t come home at all. She was shocked by the sudden inner thoughts in her head.
If he was not home tonight, she could not meet him to clarify the misunderstanding toward Xin Yihan. If she failed to resolve the misunderstanding, Qin Jinhuan would announce his decision to purchase Yong Yi Industry at the Board of Directors meeting tomorrow! Sigh…
“Yu, don’t you worry. Young Master Qin treated me politely just like before.” In the afternoon, she gave Xin Yihan a call and asked him about the meeting with Qin Jinhuan in a roundabout manner, to which he gave the above reply.
Politely? She could only smile wryly. She knew why Xin Yihan told her that. He didn’t want her to worry, just like how she never wanted to make him worry. However, Xin Yihan did not understand that she knew Qin Jinhuan better. Qin Jinhuan had always been arrogant and insolent, and he never cared about the average person. The more polite he behaved, the more danger his target was in.
Even though Mu Yu had noticed Xin Yihan’s lie, she did not expose him and pretended to agree with him in a relieved tone, even faking laughter to express her happiness. After the call, she finally gave in to the bitterness that spread through her.
“Foolish girl, how could you think that your life is difficult? Compared to my days in school, you’re blessed. If not for my stellar results that prompted the headmaster and teachers to persuade my parents a few times, I would have dropped out of school. It was not that my parents didn’t want to support my education, but we were too poor. They didn’t have enough money and were helpless.”
“The school had exempted my tuition fees and dorm expenses. High school was far from home, and I had to live in the dorm. The school even made an exception and provided me with free lunches. Even so, my family could not always support the expenses for my breakfast and dinner. I had to choose between the two meals and drank plain water for the other. Now, when I think back on that time, I wonder how I managed to live through it.”
Back when she complained to Xin Yihan about the awful meals in the school canteen, he replied with an anecdote. The memory was still fresh in her mind because it was one of the rare times when he brought up a snippet from his past. In his words, he described his past as painful, which he did not wish to look back at.
Although she still could not imagine how bad his life had been, she knew about his determination to crawl out of poverty.
The year when Xin Yihan moved to his rented place next door to Mu Yu’s house, he worked tirelessly from dawn until night. Once, Mu Yu’s mom noticed that he could professionally analyze her illness and gave her comfort, which soothed her heart. Since then, her mom treated him as the VIP of the house and frequently invited him over for dinner, allowing him to chat with her and to keep her company during study sessions. At that time, he was her only friend.
Under his patient guidance, Mu Yu finally gathered the courage to step out of the house, reignite her interest to socialize, and regain her confidence to study again. She had to admit that Xin Yihan was very skillful at tutoring her. Within half a year, he had helped her to catch up with her studies. When she finally entered high school, she managed to skip two grades under his coaching. In the second semester of her first year, she took the SATs along with other seniors and received good results, which gained her admission to An University.
When she was a university student, Xin Yihan had become the president of a company, and business was growing. Sometimes, when she brought up their lives in the past, he would smile and comment, “I love to look forward to the promising future instead of remembering the difficult past. If I could, I would look to the future and never look back.”
Never look back. If Yong Yi Industry collapsed, it would mean that Xin Yihan’s many years of struggle were wasted. It would mean that he was back to where he had begun, which was the same place in his difficult past.
Could he accept that reality? He definitely couldn’t. And Mu Yu would make sure to stop that scenario from playing out.
Mu Yu slid her hand into the night robe and gently caressed the sexy lingerie on her skin. She was overwhelmed by shyness again. She stole a glance at the clock, staring at the hand that was ticking toward twelve. Her heart pumped along with the movement of time, and her cheeks were warm from blushing. She buried her head into the blanket, only revealing a pair of lovely eyes that were staring intently at the door where Qin Jinhuan was about to show up.
At that moment, she still believed that the reason for doing this was to help Xin Yihan. She did not realize that she had been wanting to accept Qin Jinhuan as her man but was deterred by her conservativeness.
Hearing the click of the opening door, she suddenly trembled and tightened her grip on the blanket. She quickly shut her eyes but changed her mind and opened her eyes slightly to peek around. She saw Qin Jinhuan in her vision and immediately closed her eyes again in guilt, silently counting his steps toward her.
Huh? Is he walking over to the bed? My God, did he know what I’m wearing?
That’s impossible. Aside from myself, only Wenwen knew about this. Wenwen would not have told him because she wanted me to give him a surprise. Why is he heading to bed then?
Mu Yu suddenly felt a chilly touch on her forehead and reflexively opened her eyes right when he asked her how she was feeling out of nowhere. She looked at him quizzically and asked him in astonishment, “What?”
“Your forehead is not that warm. Your fever should be going away.”
“Huh?” She was increasingly confused by his comments.
“Aren’t you sick?”
“Who told you so?”
“Wait, you aren’t sick?” Qin Jinhuan retracted his hand and stared squarely at her.
“Uh… Yes, I’m sick. I’m very sick.” She pouted and put on a pitiful look. Except for Wen Zeyu, who would have the guts to lie to Qin Jinhuan in order to get him home? She was afraid that he’d blame Wen Zeyu for the white lie, therefore she could only stick to the script, feigning illness.
However, the slick Qin Jinhuan had recognized Wen Zeyu’s lie and Mu Yu’s health condition. He snorted and straightened his back.
“Huan!” Fearing that he’d leave in anger, Mu Yu sat up all of a sudden and hugged him meekly. “Don’t go.”
His body stiffened in shock from her aggressiveness.
“I feel cold. Can you give me a hug?” She attempted to unbutton his coat. In the afternoon, she had taken some time to study the text from Jiang Wenwen. Honestly, she was very speechless at the suggestion, but she had no better idea and could only follow the instructions.
“Feeling cold? Are you feverish again?” Qin Jinhuan caressed her head.
“I don’t have a fever. I’m just feeling cold.” She didn’t let go of him.
“If you feel cold, just snuggle under the blankets. You…” He realized what was going on, and his hand stopped mid-air. This girl could have done this earlier, but she decided on this right after I learned about her relationship with another man. I wonder if this out of sincerity or guilt?
“Huan, Yu is not feeling well. You should go home soon.” Wen Zeyu’s cheeky remark echoed in Qin Jinhuan’s ear. Now, he finally understood the meaning behind Wen Zeyu’s words. Should he analyze the situation before taking any action?
“Huan…” Mu Yu did not expect to not receive a response from him, thus she pushed him away dejectedly. One shouldn’t blindly follow the books. She sighed in secret.
On the other hand, Qin Jinhuan secretly laughed. Mu Yu was his woman, and it was only natural for her to want him. Was there even a need to analyze the situation?
He chided himself for being foolish and hugged her with a wide smile.
In the afternoon of the next day, Qin Xiaozhi was in his study and sitting properly in front of his desk with pursed lips and an anxious look.
