My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 165
Chapter 165 Kiki’s Final Fate
“Chief Rong, look out!” When everyone screamed in unison, Rong Jian stood frozen on the ground, shaken by the fact that he’d killed Luo Mingan. He had only wanted to prevent Luo Mingan from hurting Little Guo and did not intend to take his life.
Rong Jian found Zhao Yongli and Sun Meilan utterly despicable, and he had much sympathy for the father and daughter of the Luo Family. However, he was a police officer who could only educate the public to protect themselves with the help of the law, and he could not allow for criminal activities. Moreover, the hostage whom Luo Mingan planned to hurt was an innocent four-year-old. He fired the shot out of desperation.
Seeing that the sharp blade in Kiki’s hand was about to pierce into Rong Jian’s chest, Mu Yu, who was the nearest to him, flung herself on him.
“Yu!”
A loud gunshot and a scream were heard. The bullet hit Kiki’s leg, and she promptly fell onto the ground about a meter away from Rong Jian.
“Yu, are you okay?” Even though Qin Jinhuan had successfully pulled Mu Yu to the side, he felt traumatized by the danger and checked on her while secretly scolding himself for being careless, almost causing his woman to get hurt.
“I’m fine. What about Chief Rong? Who fired the gun, and who’s hurt?” As her vision was blocked by Qin Jinhuan, she could not figure out what was going on in front of her and asked him frantically while pushing him away to check out the scene.
Qin Jinhuan had taken a glance at Rong Jian and ascertained that he was fine. Right now, he had no time to care about Rong Jian. When he confirmed that she was unhurt, he started nagging her, “Do you think you’re ironman? How dare you put yourself in front of that sharp knife?”
“Aren’t I totally fine now?” She clutched at his arm and tried her best to peek. “Who’s hurt? Is it Chief Rong or Kiki?”
“It’s too late if something actually happens to you!” Qin Jinhuan gave her a tight hug. “How would I explain to your parents then? And Grandpa? In the future, you shouldn’t try too hard in a dangerous situation like that. Okay?”
“Can you stop your nagging?” Mu Yu was irritated by his chatter.
“I’m concerned about you!” Qin Jinhuan noticed that she wasn’t listening to him, and he felt angry. “If you can’t promise to follow my words, you should resign from your job!”
“Qin Jinhuan!”
“Mu Xiaoyu!”
“Kiki! What are you doing?” Rong Jian’s frantic scream caused Mu Yu to tremble, and she instantly pushed away Qin Jinhuan to take a look over there. Qin Jinhuan lost interest in arguing and turned to look at them too.
Right then, Rong Jian was squatting on the floor with Kiki in his arms while he yelled at Liu Xiaofan, “Quick! Call the ambulance!”
“It’s okay.” The moment Kiki spoke, blood oozed out from her mouth. It was then Mu Yu noticed the huge pool of blood beside Kiki’s feet. The blood was probably from the gunshot. When she saw the knife on Kiki’s chest, she realized that it was the exact knife that Kiki had used on Rong Jian.
Looking terrified, Mu Yu glanced at the helpless Liu Xiaofan and demanded to know, “What happened? You guys have fired a shot. Was there a need for the stab? Who did that?”
The gunshot wound on Kiki’s ankle was not too serious. The problem was the knife that had stabbed close to Kiki’s heart. If it was not handled properly, the wound could be fatal.
Logically, Kiki had been hurt at the ankle and would not be a threat to law enforcement. There was no need for the stab in her chest.
“No! It was not us! It was her. She stabbed herself!” Liu Xiaofan did not expect Kiki’s self-harm action, and she waved her hands around in fear.
“She did it to herself?” Mu Yu was utterly stunned. Was that a suicide?
“Why are you standing there? Are you deaf? Call the ambulance!” Rong Jian’s veins were popping as he bellowed at Liu Xiaofan.
“Oh, oh, sure. I’m calling them now. Calling now.” Liu Xiaofan was finally pulled back to reality as she hurriedly dug out her phone.
“I’m serious. There’s no need for that. Thanks anyway.” Kiki was as pale as a ghost. She had wanted to reach out to stop them from calling the ambulance, but her hand fell back limply, and she had to shake her head in protest.
After speaking, she vomited another mouthful of blood.
“Don’t move! Be careful around your injury!” Rong Jian grabbed her hand in a panic to stop her from moving so that she wouldn’t tear her wound. He apologized profusely to her, “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I just wanted to stop your dad from hurting Little Guo and make more mistakes in his life. I never thought that I’d…”
“Chief Rong, I don’t blame you. My dad committed grave offenses, and the death penalty was imminent. You just granted him a quick and easy death,” Kiki whispered haltingly with her feeble voice and flashed a smile at him in difficulty. The smile made Rong Jian feel more sorry, and he was clueless about what to reply.
At that moment, Kiki tried to draw back her hand. “Chief Rong, don’t touch me. I’m dirty.”
“No, you’re not. You’re a nice girl. Fate was unfair to you, and it caused you much suffering. You…”
He suddenly noticed that she drew back her hand to grab the knife and realized her intention. Gripped by terror, he swiftly took her hand and stopped her from stabbing herself, all while advising her anxiously, “How could you answer to your dad if you hurt yourself? You’ll only make him turn in his grave! You’re still young, and you can easily start a new life!”
“It’s too late.”
“It’s not! How is it too late? You’re only twenty-one, and your life has just begun! You totally could…”
“Let go! Let go of my hand!” After struggling for a while, Kiki suddenly shouted madly at him, but the moment she used force, she inhaled sharply in pain and fell back limply into Rong Jian’s arms. At that time, the bloodstain widened on her shirt. It was bright and jarring.
Mu Yu could not stand to see that anymore. She hurried up, squatted down, and caressed Kiki’s arm while advising her, “Kiki, after your dad’s burial, you can move to a place where nobody knows you…”
“Let go of me! Don’t touch me!” Kiki gritted her teeth once more and yelled at Mu Yu with a fierce glare. Mu Yu was taken aback and stunned by Kiki’s out-of-the-line behavior. Qin Jinhuan immediately came up and pulled Mu Yu aside. “Let her be. It’s none of your business.”
“But…”
“I’m sorry,” Kiki cried silently and apologized weakly. “You all are kind people. I know, and I appreciate it, but please do not touch me anymore. I have AIDS.”
“What? AIDS? Y-You have AIDS?” The first to scream in horror was Liu Xiaofan because she had spent the entire day locked with Kiki. Even before that, she had been in frequent contact with Kiki, and they sat beside each other. A few days ago, Liu Xiaofan happened to cut her finger but forgot to put a band-aid on the wound.
What if… Liu Xiaofan turned pale and dared not imagine the consequences.
“You have AIDS?” Rong Jian and Mu Yu were equally shocked. Qin Jinhuan had pulled Mu Yu two steps backward as he feared that the virus would be spread to Mu Yu if they stood near Kiki.
Now, Rong Jian finally understood the reason behind Kiki’s decision to suicide, but he did not let go of her. Instead, he looked at her with eyes full of sympathy as he gently advised her, “Even though there’s no cure for AIDS patients, with the right treatment, you can live on for a few decades. You’re not at the final stage yet, so please don’t give up.”
Kiki smiled bitterly at him. “It’s the late stage. My doctor gave me three months.” Her words shocked everyone at the scene. Even Rong Jian was speechless.
At that moment, Nie Xiaoxiang had brought the traumatized Little Guo away from the rooftop with the police’s help. Only a few of them were left on the rooftop, and the silence was deafening and scary. Everyone looked at Kiki with pity. Even Qin Jinhuan, who was always cold, now looked on with warmth in his eyes.
“Make way. Make way, please.” A patter of footsteps was heard. Everyone turned and saw some medical staff clad in white running toward them, carrying a stretcher.
“No! Don’t come near me!” Kiki noticed them coming and immediately wriggled and yelled in agitation. However, her wounds were affected by each of her shout and movement, and the pain was almost unbearable. Her face gradually turned from a pale shade to purple as her body trembled more violently. Even so, she still mustered all her energy to stop the medical staff from approaching her with a tiny voice.
The medical staff was shocked by the sight of Kiki covered in blood. When they realized that her breathing was shallow, they dared not approach her. They were experienced professionals who understood that any forceful movements would only agitate the patient and worsen the injuries, leading to a bad outcome. They would not want to bear the responsibility.
Mu Yu suddenly thought of Luo Mingan’s remark and instantly advised Kiki, “Kiki, have you forgotten that your dad asked you not to give up on treatment before he died? Are you really going to make him turn in his grave?”
“Dad. Dad.” Kiki started crying at the mention of Luo Mingan. The tears flowed down her cheeks to her lips, mixing with the blood coming out of her mouth. The liquid dripped down from her chin onto her shirt, creating a terrifying mess.
“Kiki…”
“Chief Rong, let go of me. I want to take a last look at my dad.” She uttered each word with great difficulty through clenched teeth as if she was using all the remaining energy in her.
“Promise me that you’ll go to the hospital after taking the last look. Okay?”
“I won’t.”
“If so, I’ll ask them to carry your dad’s body away, and you won’t be able to take a look at him.”
“No! Don’t carry him away!” Kiki sobbed and pleaded. “Let me take one last look at him.”
“Promise me if you want to.”
“I…” Closing her eyes, Kiki drew a sharp breath as she was on the verge of collapsing.
“Promise me now!” Rong Jian was worried that once she closed her eyes, it’d be for good. A few seconds later, Kiki uttered a “yes” with clenched teeth.
“I’ll lift you up.”
“No!” Her eyes fluttered open. “Be careful of the infection!”
“No worries.”
“Chief Rong…”
“Don’t talk.” Rong Jian carefully lifted her up and inched toward Luo Mingan’s body while reminding her, “You’ve promised me that once you take a last look at your dad, you will head to the hospital.”
Kiki did not respond and only turned her neck slowly in Luo Mingan’s direction while mumbling “dad” repeatedly.
Finally, Rong Jian reached Luo Mingan.
“Chief Rong, put me down. I wish to touch his face.”
“But…”
“I beg you. This is my last wish.”
Even though he was hesitant, with Mu Yu’s help, he agreed to place Kiki beside Luo Mingan slowly.
“Chief Rong, sorry that I took back my words.” Kiki smiled sorrowfully and abruptly flipped her body to lie flat on Luo Mingan’s body.
“Kiki!”
“No!”
Kiki was vomiting mouthfuls of blood and did not look back at them again. With her remaining energy, she hugged her dad and called him with a diminishing voice that was only audible to herself, “Dad, I’m going to see you soon. In the next life, I’d still like to be your daughter.”
After that, her body became limp and fell into the arms that she had always yearned for. Life slowly went out of her eyes until they were dark.
The medical staff who had wanted to rush up for first aid saw the scene and shook their heads while turning back in silence.
Rong Jian squatted beside Kiki and could not utter a word for a long time.
“Chief Rong…” Mu Yu called out to him but could not think of anything comforting to say. She could only hang her head low and shed tears for the tragic father and daughter.
Qin Jinhuan put his arm gently around her shoulders and pulled her into his embrace. She turned and buried her head in his chest to cry loudly. Before this, she had the utmost sympathy for Yan Xiaobing and his mother, thinking that they were the saddest people on earth. Never had she thought that Luo Mingan and Kiki would suffer from a worse fate than Yan Xiaobing.
Didn’t they say that the evil would be punished? Why did the good people get punished as well? Mu Yu could never understand it.
The stars that were shining bright in the night sky had faded by now, seemingly sighing at the sad fate of the pair of father and daughter.
A long pause later, Rong Jian finally stood up. While instructing her team members to carry the two bodies away, Liu Xiaofan asked him, “Chief Rong, can we close the two murder cases now?”
“No.”
“Huh? Why?” Liu Xiaofan was perplexed.
“That’s because Luo Mingan was not the perpetrator of the two murder cases,” Mu Yu interjected with tears on her face.
“That’s right.” Rong Jian nodded solemnly.
