My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 163
Chapter 163 Endless Resentment
In Wang Linhua’s hand was a body checkup report from a hospital in An City. The report clearly stated that the patient tested positive for HIV; the patient’s name was Luo Jiahua, which was Kiki’s real name.
It took Wang Linhua a long time to collect himself, and with a trembling voice, he commented, “I heard that some HIV-positive patients live up to ten or twenty more years.”
Kiki only shook her head at him. “The doctor says that I have three months tops.”
“No! How is that possible? How did that happen?” Wang Linhua grabbed his hair and yelled in sorrow and disbelief.
“Dad…” Kiki was at a loss for words to comfort her grief-stricken father, and she ran up to give him a hug while crying. The father and daughter hugged each other and cried hard.
“Dad, promise me that you’ll live well. Okay? Please don’t get involved in Zhao Yongli’s case. I beg you,” Kiki pleaded to him in tears. He let go of her and wiped away her tears while shaking his head.
“Hua, did you know? All these years, the only motivation for me to live on is the thought of finding you and raising you. If you’re gone, there will be no meaning in my life.”
“No! Dad, I forbid you to say that again! You must live! I don’t want to die without having a family to visit my grave. I don’t want to become a lonely spirit.”
“Hua!” Wang Linhua could not console his daughter, who only had three months to live. At that moment, aside from feeling pained, bitter, guilty, and helpless, he was also full of resentment.
All of a sudden, he grabbed the gun from Kiki and aimed it at Little Guo, who was already cowering in a corner. If not for Zhao Yongli, his daughter would not have jumped into the fiery pits of hell over and over again. She would not have to live with a destroyed body and withered away at the height of her youth.
Zhao Yongli’s death was not enough to reduce Wang Linhua’s resentment. The man had destroyed his precious daughter, so in return, he would destroy the late Zhao Yongli’s precious son.
“Dad! No!” Kiki had no time to wipe away her tears as she rushed in front of Little Guo to shield the little boy.
Nobody hated Zhao Yongli more than she did. Not only did she hate Zhao Yongli, but she also hated everyone who was related to him. However, Little Guo was too helpless, and she had no heart to harm him. Even if anything were to happen to Little Guo, she would not let Wang Linhua be the one to commit the crime. After all, she still wanted to keep his dad away from the death sentence.
“Hua, get out of my way.” Wang Linhua’s eyes were shooting arrows at Little Guo, and he said through clenched teeth, “How good will Zhao Yongli’s son turn out anyway? He’d grow up to become no less evil than his father! I’ll have to take care of him today so that he won’t grow up to harm someone else!”
“No! Dad, if you really want revenge on the boy, I should be the one who takes the revenge!” Kiki instantly put her hand on Little Guo’s neck.
“No, Kiki! Let me do it! You get out of this mess! I swear I’ll get rid of this little brat today!” While he was speaking, he turned his body horizontally, aimed his gun at Little Guo’s head, and pulled the trigger.
An explosive bang was heard from the shot, and Kiki screamed at the impact. She was gripped by fear and instantly drew back her hand on Little Guo’s neck like she was electrocuted. Soon, she realized that something was off because Little Guo, the target of the gunshot, was unharmed.
At that moment, the sound of hurried footsteps shocked her. She glanced at Wang Linhua and noticed that he was pressing on his right hand with his left and howling in pain. Blood trickled from his fingers and dripped right onto the gun near his feet.
“Dad! Dad! What happened?” Kiki immediately went up to support him, but before she could reach him, two people appeared from the side and harshly pinned him onto the floor.
“What are you doing? Release my dad!” Right when she was about to help free Wang Linhua, she got a better idea and immediately turned to pick up the knife beside Little Guo and placed it on his neck.
“Kiki!”
“Don’t come near me!”
At the threat, Liu Xiaofan could only step back and stare at Kiki in astonishment.
“Let go of my dad!” Kiki gripped her knife and rebuked, “Get your hands off him! He never wanted to harm Little Guo. It was me who wanted Little Guo dead. He was taking away the gun from me. He wasn’t…”
“Hua! Stop your nonsense! This had nothing to do with you!” Trying to endure the pain, Wang Linhua yelled at her to stop her. “It was me who wanted to kill that little jerk because he’s the son of that b*stard Zhao Yongli! My lovely family of three ended up in this situation because of that b*stard Zhao Yongli! It’s merciful enough of me to kill that kid with a gunshot to the head. If the kid were older, I would have killed him off like how I killed his dad!”
“No! Dad, stop talking!” Kiki instantly turned to face Rong Jian, who was pinning down Wang Linhua, and addressed him sternly, “Chief Rong, I am really the one who killed Zhao Yongli! It was merciful enough that I cut up his heart. If I had lured him to my house and killed him there, I would have eaten his flesh and drunk his blood too!”
The heartless remark from Kiki stunned Mu Yu and Rong Jian.
“Hua, you…”
“Let go of my dad and have him come to me! Otherwise, I’ll kill Little Guo right now!”
“No! No!” Upon seeing that Kiki was inching the knife around the fainted boy’s neck, Nie Xiaoxiang was almost driven crazy by the terror, and she frenziedly pried away Rong Jian’s grasp on Wang Linhua’s hand. “Quick, let go of him! My Little Guo cannot stand this anymore!”
Rong Jian did not expect that Kiki would go back against her words. She seemed very agitated, so he had no choice but to release Wang Linhua, who pressed on his bleeding hands and stumbled toward Kiki while shaking his head painfully at her.
“Foolish child. What are you doing this for?”
Kiki smiled bitterly at him and turned to look at Rong Jian. “Chief Rong, even though Zhao Yongli is my uncle, I hated him to the bones. My dad is right; it was Zhao Yongli who pushed our family into this wretched situation.”
Kiki appeared to fall into her memories. After a pause, she glanced at Wang Linhua. “Although our family was not well-to-do when I was young, at least we lived happily. In my memory, my dad always went out to work before dawn. Even though my mom stayed at home to care for me, she would sometimes go to a nearby factory to take some work that could be done from home. I was too young back then, but I’d fight to help my mom. She was very gentle and always stopped me with a smile. Instead, she taught me to read and told me to study hard later so that I could go to university and get a decent job. Every night, Dad came home late, and I fell asleep waiting for him at the door. When I was awake again, I always found that Dad had placed me back onto the bed.”
Her recollection transported Wang Linhua down memory lane, and he continued, “Sometimes, in order to stop yourself from falling asleep, you’d pinch yourself to stay awake, and even Mom couldn’t stop you. When I was back home, I found your wrist bruising from the pinches. You were waiting for me to come back so that you could massage my back and recite the songs or poems you learned at the kindergarten in front of me.”
“No. I was actually waiting for you to bring home snacks,” Kiki responded with tears on her face. “Back then, I was a glutton, and the only thing on my mind all day was the snacks you’d bring for me. Mom liked to call me a greedy cat. Later, you didn’t want me waiting for you until late at night, so you tried to come home earlier. After dinner, you’d help mom with the housework and sat beside me to watch cartoons with me. I loved it when you and Mom squeezed yourselves onto the old sofa to chat. I would crawl onto you or Mom. It was the happiest time of my life. That time, I had never thought that one day life would look so different.”
“That was all because Zhao Yongli found your mom!” Wang Linhua sounded enraged by now. “He saw that we were living poor and started to persuade your mom. Soon, she could not resist the temptation and started wishing for a wealthy and comfortable life. She started complaining that I earned too little and that I was too incompetent.”
“Truth be told, I was working three jobs at that time, and I handed all my salary to her. Even so, she still thought that it was not enough. Later, she was introduced to a rich man, Jiang Yaoping, by Zhao Yongli, and she was ready to become his second wife. She could not bear to leave you, so she brought you to live with Jiang Yaoping.”
“When I came home to an empty house, I immediately went out to look for both of you, but I failed. After some attempts, I managed to find Zhao Yongli and begged him to tell me your whereabouts. Not only did he smirk at me, he even called a gang over to beat me up. Yes, I was indeed incompetent at that time, and I dared not meet him anymore. Instead, I went around asking for people to help me with the search.”
“Sometime later, someone told me that they had seen your mom in Ping City, and I immediately went to look for her. After a difficult search, I managed to find her, but she had changed to the point that I could not recognize her anymore. I knew that she would not follow me home, so I begged her over and over again to hand you back to me. Her attitude was the same as Zhao Yongli’s; not only was she unwilling to tell me your whereabouts, she even asked Jiang Yaoping to get some men to threaten me so that I wouldn’t harass her. That day, I really missed you too much. I had some alcohol and got my hands on a butcher’s knife. Next, I rushed to the rented house where your mom and Jiang Yaoping were staying. Originally, I only wanted to scare your mom so that she’d hand you back to me. However, she was not around, and only Jiang Yaoping was at home. When he saw that an honest and meek man like me was waving a butcher’s knife, he laughed at me, and that angered me, so I attacked him. During that time, I could not remember how many times I stabbed him, but anyway, I only realized that I had murdered someone when he lay there motionless. I knew that I had to pay back for my murder and I wanted to see you for the one last time, so I went to find your mom with the knife in hand. And I bumped into her in the corridor. When she saw me covered with blood, she guessed correctly that I had killed Jiang Yaoping. The woman turned and ran away. I chased after her and caught up with her at the trash collection area, forcing her to hand over my daughter. She refused to and told me that I’d never see you again in this life. With that, I became furious and lost my mind. I ended up chopping her head off with the knife.”
Wang Linhua paused at that point and gave Kiki a guilty look. “Hua, you refused to acknowledge me before. Do you hate me for killing your mom?”
“No!” Kiki was a crying mess, and she shook her head, sending her tears splashing in all directions. “Dad, I have never hated you! Not before and certainly not now. I did not acknowledge you because I was scared that Chief Rong would track you down. After all, you’re a criminal who has dodged the enforcement for many years! I thought that if I refused to acknowledge our relationship, you might leave the city disappointed, and you’d be safe. Dad, you are not to blame for Mom’s tragedy; she deserved it. Did you know why she told you that you’d never see me again in this life? That’s because long before that, Zhao Yongli had sold me off as a child bride! I was sold to somewhere that she didn’t even know!”
Wang Linhua looked sorrowful. “She was your mom. Why didn’t she stop Zhao Yongli from selling you?”
“Stop him?” Kiki sneered. “She agreed to it.”
“How was that possible?”
“I heard it with my own ears. Anyway, she was tricked by Zhao Yongli. He lied to her that a rich and childless couple would like to adopt a daughter. She thought that I’d suffer if she let me back with you, so she agreed to sell me off based on his suggestion. Little did she know that her decision was a nightmare to me!”
Kiki’s eyes were filled with fear now. “A few days in, I was sexually abused by my adoptive father. If I fought back, he’d beat me up. Every time he was done with me, he would threaten to starve me if I told anyone about it. At that time, I dreamed that you could come to save me every day. Days flew past, but nobody came for me. When I was fourteen, I accidentally got pregnant, and it really scared me. I figured out ways to finally escape to Zhao Yongli and kneeled down to beg for his help, but he ended up sending me back to my adoptive family. He even told me that you had killed mom three years ago and suicided by jumping into the sea so that I would give up on you. Later, I had a miscarriage, and the doctor told me that I could never be pregnant again. My adoptive father was angry at the news because he wanted me to bear a son. Then, Zhao Yongli worked with my adoptive father to send me off to Camphor Forest to become a prostitute.”
“Beast! What a beast! Had I known about that, I would have come back and cut that b*stard up!” Wang Linhua’s face was ashen, and he suddenly grabbed Little Guo’s neck. “I will make your father turn in his grave!”
