My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 147
Chapter 147 He Likes Men!
What are Shang Qi and Qin Chengxi doing scuffling in the woods? Aren’t they classmates?
Xi was always known to be timid, and he would often steer clear of trouble with others. Therefore, it seemed like Shang Qi was the one bullying him.
Despite her inference, Mu Yu didn’t want to jump to conclusions so soon. Therefore, for the sake of Qin Chengxi, she decided to tiptoe into the woods to find out more about what was going on.
At this time, Shang Qi already dragged Qin Chengxi to the railing of a small pavilion in the park center. He was seen placing both his hands on the railing, cornering Qin Chengxi between them.
Qin Chengxi appeared frightened while he tried to lean toward the railing. As he resisted Shang Qi’s approaching chest, he weakly asked, “W-What are you doing?”
Mu Yu sensed Qin Chengxi’s helplessness. Knowing her guess was right, she quickly stood straight, readying to put a stop to Shang Qi’s action.
However, before she could jump into action, she suddenly heard Shang Qi say, “Xi, why did you hide from me? I haven’t seen you in three weeks!”
Although he was interrogating Qin Chengxi for an answer, he sounded especially gentle, which suggested he wasn’t looking for trouble. Upon realizing there could be more than met the eye, Mu Yu immediately covered her mouth before she retreated to a hidden corner and continued observing the situation.
“I-I didn’t hide from you,” Qin Chengxi answered meekly with his eyes looking down, seemingly trying to avoid Shang Qi’s gaze.
“Well, if you didn’t hide from me, then why didn’t you answer my call or reply to my messages on Wechat and WhatsApp? You could have at least sent me a text on Facebook, couldn’t you?”
“I was sick, and my mom wanted me to rest more. So, she didn’t let me touch my phone and my laptop.”
“And she didn’t let you go out as well?”
“My mom said it was cold outside. Besides, I’m weak, so I catch a cold pretty easily. Therefore, she made me stay at home.”
“Then, why didn’t you greet me when I visited?”
“I was sick.”
“Why didn’t you go to the hospital since you were sick?”
“Well, it was just a cold. So, I just took some medicine and rested at home.”
“In that case, if I hadn’t pretended as your brother to call you out, you wouldn’t have stepped out of your home, would you?” Shang Qi sounded frustrated.
“My mom said I shouldn’t go out since I wasn’t feeling well.” Qin Chengxi’s voice was so soft that Mu Yu could barely make out what he was saying.
“Why? Why are you lying to me?” Shang Qi yelled at him as he moved closer to him.
“No, I’m not.”
“Why are you denying?! Let me tell you something. I asked Aunt Dong earlier, and she told me you weren’t grounded! Instead, you chose to stay in all day, and neither did you check out your phone or your laptop! The worst thing was—you didn’t want to see me!” Shang Qi sounded upset. “You stayed in to avoid me, didn’t you? Do you know that you’ve hurt my feelings by doing that?”
Mu Yu was confused by their conversation.
Does Shang Qi mean he has taken a fancy to Xi?!
But Xi is a dude!
Xin Xin Multimedia Group’s young new CEO fancies men? Does that mean he is gay?!
Gosh, no wonder Xi had been avoiding him.
“Can you… stop raising your voice at me?” Qin Chengxi tearfully looked at him.
“I’m sorry, Xi. I didn’t mean to raise my voice.” Shang Qi sounded like he suddenly went soft as he kept apologizing. “I just miss you so much because I haven’t seen you in a while. Um… I mean we’ve been classmates for so long, and we see each other every day. So, after this period of time without you, I realized I couldn’t get used to it. I know I’m ill-tempered and careless. Therefore, there must be a reason why you didn’t want to see me. Please tell me where I need to change, okay? Because I swear, I will change!”
“No, you’re fine. You don’t have to change anything.”
“If I had really done well, you wouldn’t have avoided me.”
“Shang Qi, I didn’t hide from you, but I’m really not feeling well.” Qin Chengxi paused as he seemingly mustered his courage to continue explaining, “I think my days are numbered!”
“Your days are numbered?! What do you mean by that?!” Shang Qi was taken aback by his words.
Mu Yu, who was hiding behind the bush, was equally shocked as Shang Qi. Then, she straightened her body and stared at Qin Chengxi while waiting for him to explain further.
Qin Chengxi took a deep breath and helplessly said, “I’ve always been in poor health. When I was born, the doctor said I wouldn’t live long. Therefore, it’s a miracle that I’ve made it until now that I’m twenty-one, but I don’t think I can hold much longer.”
“How can it be?! No! You have to hang in there!” Shang Qi suddenly hugged him. “If you could live through twenty years, you can definitely make it through another forty years. There is no way you’re giving up! You have to keep fighting for the sake of your parents, your brother, your sister-in-law, as well as everyone else who cares for you!”
“Stop it, Shang Qi! Please!” Tears started rolling down Qin Chengxi’s cheeks as he tried to shake off Shang Qi.
“You can’t give up! Listen to me. My dad knows some of the greatest doctors worldwide, and I’m sure they can cure your illness. Therefore, I’ll take you to them, so that…” Shang Qi felt a lump in his throat as well, refusing to let go of Qin Chengxi’s hand.
“It’s useless. There is no cure for my illness. My parents have already brought me to every famous doctor for treatment but to no avail. You can tell that from my looks. So, stop wasting your time on me.”
“I bet your parents brought you to some charlatans. So, forget about them and come with me. I believe it won’t take long before you’re up and around!”
“Shang Qi, I know you care about me. So, I really appreciate your kindness, and I’m fortunate enough to have a friend like you in my life. It’s just that I…” Qin Chengxi let out a sigh and wiped off his tears before slowly pushing him away. “I actually knew it was you who called this morning because my brother will never give me a call, and neither will he speak to me with such a gentle voice. Therefore, even if you hadn’t hit me up earlier today, I would have picked a time to meet you anyway.”
“Really?!”
“Yes, because I want to bid you farewell.”
“Xi!” Shang Qi’s brightened eyes soon darkened as he hugged Qin Chengxi once again and sadly said, “Don’t say that! Please!”
“Shang Qi.”
After multiple failed attempts to push Shang Qi away, Qin Chengxi gave in and let his hands that were originally on Shang Qi’s waist down. It seemed like he wanted to hug Shang Qi, but after a few seconds of hesitation, he gave up, only shedding tears in silence.
“Xi, tell me more about your illness. Then, I’ll contact a specialist and get you treated as soon as possible.”
“It’s no use doing that. The disease was passed on to me by my mother. Therefore, I know how bad my situation is.” Qin Chengxi sounded hopeless.
“No!” Shang Qi let go of him and stared at him in his eyes while he swore, “Trust me! I will see that you’re treated!”
Qin Chengxi let out a sarcastic laugh and changed the subject. “Shang Qi, you have feelings for me, don’t you?”
Shang Qi was caught by surprise hearing Qin Chengxi’s words, as he appeared bashful and anxious. Nonetheless, he nodded in a serious manner. “I know you’ve been avoiding me ever since you quit school because you’re aware of how I feel toward you. I knew you wouldn’t accept it, so I tried to fight and suppress my feelings. Unfortunately, I failed to hide it from you because I’m a terrible liar. Xi, there is actually no need for you to avoid me because there won’t be any pressure. I won’t force you to accept me, neither will I ever harm you. So, you can just treat me as a friend. To me, all I ever want is to see you healthy and happy. In fact, I’m already grateful that I can always see you.”
Qin Chengxi looked down and forced a smile. “Thank you.”
“Cut the pleasantries with me.” Shang Qi pretended to be calm and said with a smile, “Since you always treated me as your elder brother, I think we should keep it that way because I’m willing to be your elder brother for life. And an elder brother will do anything and everything for his younger brother with all his love. So, can you please stop pushing me away?”
Shang Qi seemed to be begging with his last few words as if he was afraid to be turned down. If Mu Yu hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she wouldn’t have believed that this young man, who was talking so gently, was Xin Xin Multimedia Group’s new CEO, one of the top five talented rising stars in the commercial world of An City.
Upon hearing Shang Qi’s words, tears started rolling down Qin Chengxi’s cheeks. He then wiped them off while nodding and thanking him.
“I want to go home.”
“Xi.”
“I’m freezing.”
“Oh my! I’m sorry.” Shang Qi quickly took off his coat and put it on him.
“Thanks.” Qin Chengxi didn’t turn him down but instead held tight onto the coat while he sniffled and said, “I need to go home and take my medicine.”
“Tell me more about your sickness!” Shang Qi desperately seized his hand.
“Alright, I’ll tell you on WeChat when I get back.”
Upon hearing that, Shang Qi let go of him and said, “Let me see you home.”
“Sure.”
Qin Chengxi then began walking forward with his head facing down, while Shang Qi quickly caught up with him. The two of them didn’t say a word more, as they seemed caught up in their thoughts while walking forward side by side.
Then, Mu Yu finally emerged from behind the bush, gazing at their backs while they slowly disappeared.
Besides Shang Qi’s feelings for Xi, she couldn’t believe Qin Chengxi was so severely ill.
Despite Qin Chengxi’s pale face, he always put on a smile on his face, which she found heart-wrenching to see. However, she was still skeptical because she had never heard a word from the Qin Family about Qin Chengxi’s terminal illness. Furthermore, she just met Dong Yueyun and Qin Wentao a few days ago, yet they didn’t seem heartbroken about possibly losing a son soon.
Perhaps it was a story Xi made up to turn Shang Qi down.
Upon convincing herself that way, Mu Yu heaved a sigh of relief. Even so, she still had her doubts, and that she gave Qin Jinhuan a call to have him follow up on the matter. In case Qin Chengxi was really sick, Qin Jinhuan’s network of connections could come in handy.
As she reached out for her phone, Rong Jian’s call came in.
“Yu, I’ve arrived at Block Five. Where are you now?”
“I’m in the park on the Eastside. I’ll head over to Block Five now.”
After hanging up on Rong Jian, she gave Qin Jinhuan a call. In the call, she briefly told him about Qin Chengxi’s illness, but not Shang Qi’s feelings for the latter. After she ended her call with her husband, she hurriedly made her way to Block Five.
“Yu, I’m sorry to have made you wait.” Rong Jian embarrassedly greeted Mu Yu when he saw her.
“It’s alright. Let’s head upstairs now.” Seemingly still bothered about Qin Chengxi’s sickness, Mu Yu, who was in low spirits, tried to pull herself together.
Both of them eventually reached their destination on the fifteenth floor and knocked on the door.
The door was then open, whereupon they were soon greeted by Kiki’s friend, Jin. After Rong Jian introduced himself, he was met with Jin’s yawn before she let them in for a while, looking at the rooms and calling out to Abby and Eve.
Not long after, Abby and Eve came out of their rooms with sleepy eyes on their faces. Upon greeting Rong Jian and Mu Yu, they walked to the couch and fell straight on it, seemingly still drowsy.
The three of them were wearing sleeping gowns without their bras on, faintly revealing their pinkish ‘cherries’ underneath.
“Chief Rong, just feel free to ask us any questions. We’ll tell you what we know.” Jin, who was sitting on the couch, flashed a cigarette case at Rong Jian. “Would you like to have one?”
“No thanks,” Rong Jian awkwardly answered.
Fortunately, he foresaw the awkward situation and brought Mu Yu along. Otherwise, he wouldn’t know where to look during the interview.
“Hurry up and fire away! Because we want to go back to sleep,” Abby grunted with her eyes closed.
Rong Jian awkwardly asked Mu Yu in a soft voice, “Yu, could you do the asking while I take notes?”
Mu Yu nodded before she began asking them questions about Kiki.
“I’m not sure how old Kiki was when her parents passed away, but I know her foster parents didn’t treat her properly. By the way, she was pregnant when she was fourteen years old. The child belonged to her foster father,” Jin answered.
“What?!” Mu Yu and Rong Jian were both terrified by the bestial act of Kiki’s foster father.
“Well, Kiki’s foster father isn’t related to her. Therefore, it was not surprising that he did that to her. After all, Kiki is such a beauty.” Abby suddenly sat straight and interrupted, “Her uncle is the one who should rot in Hell! After Kiki was pregnant, she escaped from her foster father and went to her uncle for help. However, her uncle refused to help her and took her back to her foster father. Besides that, he even suggested beating her up to teach her a lesson. In the end, Kiki was beaten up by her foster father so badly that she miscarried, resulting in her subsequent infertility.”
“What her uncle did to her later on will make your skin crawl.” Eve apparently woke up from her nap and explained, “Kiki’s foster father raped her because he wanted to have a child for his family, but after she became infertile, he drove her away from home and sent her back to her uncle. Besides, he also demanded a refund from her uncle—because her uncle sold her to her foster parents. Nevertheless, her uncle wouldn’t give in. So, the two of them came together and forcibly sent her to Camphor Forest, leaving her in dismay with no one other way out. Under the proprietress’s guidance, she began working as an escort at the age of sixteen, until now.”
Mu Yu and Rong Jian were shocked once again.
Because they couldn’t believe Kiki’s uncle was the one who slowly pushed her to the edge of an abyss.
If the three of them were really telling the truth, while Wang Linhua was Kiki’s biological father, it would prove both of their motives behind killing Zhao Yongli.
After learning what seemed like the truth, Mu Yu and Rong Jian left Free World with a heavy heart.
The both of them decided to return to the bureau and plan their next move, but before they even reached their car, they got a call from Liu Xiaofan saying, “Chief Rong, we have a situation here—Wang Linhua escaped!”
