My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 141
Chapter 141 His Soft Spot
“You’ll know when you get there.”
While saying that, Qin Jinhuan took his coat off and wrapped it around Mu Yu. He then placed his arm around her shoulders while giving Bian Zijun a call.
When they arrived at their doorstep, Bian Zijun had already pulled up in front of them.
“Where are you taking me?” Upon getting in the car, Mu Yu curiously asked Qin Jinhuan once again.
Qin Jinhuan didn’t respond to her question, but instead instructed Bian Zijun, “Xi Zi Garden”. Soon after, he smiled at her, not saying a single word about this mysterious place he was about to take her to.
Upon seeing his refusal to reveal his intention and anything about Xi Zi Garden, she gave up asking further. Touching his coat which she was wearing, her eyes looked forward while recalling his words.
“If I don’t love you, why would I care to explain so much to you? I don’t love her, but I’ve failed her…”
He loved neither Yin Anjing nor Yin Anran, because she was his true love. Was that what he was trying to tell her?
Despite those touching words, she still couldn’t believe her ears. After all, those were the words that she had long been waiting to hear; after all, he had disappointed her for so many times.
She was mentally prepared for a divorce with him at this moment, but was told that he loved her in the next. If she had a heart attack, she would have to take her medication.
She was confused, not knowing whether his words were true.
As she was absorbed in her thought, she gently tilted her head and peeked at him.
With the illuminating streetlights, she faintly noticed that he was staring at him with a smile, even though she was glaring at him.
Seeing the pleasant smile on his face, she couldn’t help but pause.
“Are you cold?” He moved closer and held her hands.
Shocked, her hand instinctively shrank back. However, he held her hand tightly, as if his hand was glued to hers, in which she couldn’t free her hand from his grip.
“Are you cold?” He moved closer and asked.
“It seems like you’re the one who’s freezing.” She glimpsed their hands that were held together, but restrained herself from putting his hand on her belly to keep it warm. To control herself, she could only purse her lips.
Qin Jinhuan gently touched her hand and grinned. “If you aren’t cold, then I’m not either.”
“I wasn’t cold, but now I am.”
“Well…” He awkwardly withdrew his hand. Then, he saw her taking off the coat, which he asked in surprise, “Aren’t you cold? Why are you taking off your coat?”
“Take your coat back. I wouldn’t want to be blamed if you froze to death.”
“I’m not so weak.” He grabbed hold of her hand.
She replied in agitation, “Hey! Where are you putting your hands?! Pervert!”
“Well…” He smiled in embarrassment and slowly withdrew his hand.
He didn’t realize his hand was on her chest.
Bian Zijun, who overheard the conversation behind, stepped on the brake pedal. She could not help but feel that she was being a little too dramatic. Although the car sped up shortly after, she was still embarrassed by Bian Zijun’s reaction. Then, she shifted her eyes to Qin Jinhuan and glared at him shortly before she looked away and wrapped herself in the coat.
The two of them hadn’t interacted further until Bian Zijun pulled over.
Soon, Qin Jinhuan got out of the car.
Not being told to come along, she decided to stay in the car and observed through the car window. However, it was dark at night, so she was only able to see the two iron gates without any nearby streetlights. She also managed to make out a faint outline of what seemed like a house not far away from the gate.
It was at this moment that the door next to her was opened from the outside. She looked up and realized it was Qin Jinhuan.
“Come here. Get out of the car.”
“Okay.”
She held onto her jacket tightly and got out of the car as told.
“Watch out.” He thoughtfully placed his hand above her head while reminding.
“Where is this place?” She seemingly overlooked his caring act and scanned her surroundings.
At that time, the surrounding streetlights slowly lit up and radiated dim yellow lights. With the illuminating lights, she clearly saw a two-storey mansion that seemed like it was at least a few years old. In front of the mansion was a spacious yard growing with different types of plants.
Soon, she was attracted by the wisterias along the corridor on the east side of the yard, whereupon she excitedly ran toward them.
“Wow! What a beautiful sight of wisterias!”
“Are you fond of wisterias too?” Qin Jinhuan followed her into the corridor.
“Of course, I am! Hold on!” She suddenly thought of something. “Wisterias only bloom between April and May, don’t they? It’s winter now and why would there still be wisterias growing here? And they are flourishing?”
“They are fake?! Who had nothing else better to do than hanging all the artificial flowers here?”
“It’s me”
“You?! You like Wisterias too?” Mu Yu was surprised to learn that.
She was surprised to find a man who was fond of wisterias to such an extent.
“My mom liked it.”
“But I thought your mom… passed away years ago, didn’t she?”
“Purple was my mom’s favorite color before her passing. She just loved everything that was purple in color and wisterias was one of those things. Besides…”
“Hold on!” Mu Yu interrupted. “I thought white was your mom’s favorite color. Why did you say it was purple?”
Qin Jinhuan corrected her. “Her favorite color wasn’t white. She just liked to wear white dresses.”
He didn’t want to reveal the reason behind his mother’s fondness toward a white dress, for he was unwilling to mention the shameless couple.
“Oh.” Mu Yu didn’t dwell too much on it, but instead turned her attention to the silk flowers. “Did you keep all the wisterias here as a remembrance of your mom?”
“My mom built this pergola herself. She even planted the wisterias here herself.” Qin Jinhuan’s gaze then fell upon the square stone stable. “Every time the wisterias bloomed, she always brought me here to read, listen to music or read me a story. Sometimes, she even made me some wisteria rice porridge, wisteria pastries and wisteria cookies. After she passed away, I didn’t know how to take care of the wisterias, so they gradually grew less and less, until they all perished. Therefore, seeing the bare pergola every time just ruins my mood.”
“Since you’re so well off, why didn’t you hire a gardener to manage?” Mu Yu interrupted.
“I subsequently did, but the blooming season of wisterias lasts for only about two months throughout the year, which I still couldn’t witness for myself due to my busy schedule. Therefore, I tended to feel stressed out and thus grow cranky when I didn’t see the wisterias every time I came here.”
“That’s why you kept all the artificial flowers here?”
“Yes. Every time I came here and saw those blooming wisterias, it felt like mom was still alive and just away from home. It was as if I could see her as long as I waited here. It calms me down thinking that way.”
Upon hearing him sigh about his past, she didn’t think he would have a soft spot despite his tough nature, which evoked her sympathy for him.
As far as she could recall, she came from a poor family. However, thanks to her parents, she had never had to work hard for a living. Apart from the incident she found unbearable to recall, she had lived her life rather comfortably. Although she had never experienced what Qin Jinhuan had been through, she could still empathize with his pain, thus bearing a deeper affection for him.
It was at this moment that a chilly breeze blew, causing the flower vines to rustle. Soon, she couldn’t help but shiver with cold when she felt the soft wind grazing upon her skin. Then, she suddenly thought of Qin Jinhuan who had just given her his coat. Therefore, she shifted his gaze to him.
“The wind seems to be rising. Don’t catch a cold…”
Since when did he have his coat on?
Seeing her stare at him, Qin Jinhuan was able to read her undertone. So he explained, “It’s from Huang Bo.”
“Oh I see.” Having unknowingly revealed her care for him, she quickly looked away and acted as if she wasn’t concerned at all.
“Let’s go.” He held her hand and entered the mansion.
The warmth in his palm spread through her hand to all over her body, which she couldn’t bring herself to turn him down anymore. She was then softened up, whereupon she went along with him and followed wherever he took her.
At this moment, she already knew that this was his mother’s former residence. She also knew he brought her here to show her something, something that she wanted to see for herself.
“Before I turned twelve, this was where I had been living.” He explained as they kept walking.
“After my mom passed away, my grandfather wanted me to put the sad memories behind me. So, we moved, although I always snuck back here by myself.”
During their conversation, the both of them found their way into the mansion.
Inside the mansion was bright with all the lights turned on in the living room and every other room. They were all turned on by Bian Zijun who entered the house earlier, although he had left. Therefore, the house was left with Qin Jinhuan and Mu Yu.
While following behind Qin Jinhuan, Mu Yu curiously glanced across the old furniture in the house.
Qin Jinhuan took her upstairs to the first room. “This was my mom’s bedroom and study.”
It was a double room, but Mu Yu was convinced by the two book racks on the outside that this was indeed a study.
Mu Yu gently took Qin Jinhuan’s hand off her and walked up to the book rack. She took a glance across the rack and saw that half of the books on it were detective fictional novels and magazines.
At this moment, there were two series of books in the middle of the rack that caught her eye—The complete work of Agatha and Sherlock Holmes. Out of curiosity, she grabbed one of the books and started flipping through it.
As he saw her reaction, Qin Jinhuan explained with a smile, “These two series were printed specially for my mom by a printing company, to which she paid handsomely. She didn’t like the poor quality of the papers used by other publishers, and neither did she find the illustrations up to her expectation. Therefore, she added some of her own illustrations into her books.”
However, she didn’t share his sense of humor. “This was simply just extravagant!”
She seemed like she was pretty free too. She thought to herself deep down.
“My mom was a person of romanticism, and a typical aesthete.”
Qin Jinhuan didn’t tell her more about his mother. Instead, he took her to the wardrobe to show her something.
Looking at the inside of the wardrobe, Mu Yu was taken aback by the sight of the various types of white dresses hanging in it.
She had always thought women bought beautiful dresses to make themselves look prettier, but she didn’t expect any to keep them as a collection.
Of course, commoners like us can never understand the world of the rich.
Then, Qin Jinhuan pointed at the cabinet below the television and said, “There are DVDs in the cabinet, which were all my mom’s favorite horror movies. Would you like to verify them?”
“Verify?” Mu Yu was confused why he used this word.
“Yu.” When he noticed she didn’t turn around, he came to her front and met her gaze. Then, he placed his hands on her shoulders and asked in a serious manner, “Do you still not believe what I told you earlier?”
“What do you mean?”
He knew she asked on purpose, but he wasn’t frustrated. Therefore, he looked at her in a serious manner and said, “You’re the one I’ve always liked.”
“You just like me?” In fact, she had already believed in him the moment they stepped into this room. However, she only picked on him because of his previous indifference and reticence.
“When I say I like you, I mean I love you,” he said with a serious look.
“To me, ‘like’ is different from ‘love’. The former has a broader meaning than the latter. You may like the Old Master, Zeyu or Little Ying, but you could only love one person.”
“Yu, I…”
Mu Yu suddenly placed her hand over his mouth and said, “If you’re not ready, don’t say those three words. Because once you say them out, I’ll take them seriously and that I won’t give you a second chance if you do something wrong again!”
He gently held her hand and stared at her eyes. Then, he said, “I don’t need a second chance. I just need you to accept me, because I love you.”
Although she realized what he was trying to tell her, she still couldn’t help but feel shocked. After a brief pause, she asked, “Are you serious?”
“Very serious!”
“You… I… tsk!” Her heart became a mess, in which she didn’t know what to say.
She was really scared that he would fail to keep his word and disappoint her in the end. Therefore, she rather wished he had never confessed his feelings to her, yet when she heard him utter those words out, she couldn’t bear to shatter this beautiful moment.
She didn’t want him to see through her anxiety and insecurity. So, she turned around to avoid his gaze.
“Yu, come over here. I have something I want to tell you.”
“Yes?”
As she looked down and turned around, she accidentally saw something in his hand that left her mouth wide open.
