Chapter 123 The Crack in their Relationship Worsened
“Hey! What are you up to?” Mu Yu was flustered and she quickly covered up her chest with her hands.

“I am giving you a massage. Aren’t you having a headache?”

“Is there anyone that gives massages like that?” She pushed him away and angrily got off the bed.

“Yu…” He suddenly hugged her from behind and rested his jaw on her shoulders.

She was not used to being intimate with him. Thus, she naturally tried to shake him off while forcing apart his arms that were around her waist. However, he tightened his arms around her and hugged her tight. His lips even gently brushed across her ears.

Damn! Was this how he seduced Yin Anran in the lounge?

Such a shameless person!

She instantly got mad and pinched him hard on the back of his wrist.

“Ouch! Yu, you…”

‘Stay away from me! You disgust me!” She angrily said as she knocked him away. When she saw that he was still trying to come close to her, she quickly took out the scalpel that was always in her bag. Then, she gritted onto her teeth and scolded, “Don’t treat me like Yin Anran ever again. I will chop off your fingers!”

As she said that, she could not help but feel hurt. That was because she subconsciously visualized the making out sessions between Yin Anran and Qin Jinhuan.

“Where is the scalpel I gave you?” Qin Jinhuan unhappily said as he stretched his hand out to snatch over the scalpel she was using for self defence.

Mu Yu thought that he was avoiding the topic. She evaded his hand and coldly said, “I threw it away.”

“You threw it away?”

“Yes.”

With a cold look on his face, he asked, “Why did you do that?”

“Why not? The decision is up to me. It’s just like how you chose to makeout with Yin Anran.”

“You misunderstood us, actually we…”

“Why are you still trying to defend yourself? I am not blind.”

That shut Qin Jinhuan who wanted to defend himself up. He was speechless and could only stare blankly at her.

She turned her head around in disgust and coldly warned, “Qin Jinhuan, listen up. If you ever dare to go against the three rules that we agreed upon, I will make sure that you go onto the headlines of the following day with the news that you had been cheated on!

“How dare you?” Qin Jinhuan’s expression turned solemn upon hearing that.

“You think only you can do whatever you want and I am not allowed to do anything? Upon seeing the change in his expression, Mu Yu felt elated. She kept her head up and continued saying, “Although the marriage between us is merely contractual, I would still make your life difficult if you make me upset. Don’t think of these as empty promises. If you end up losing your reputation and being shamed, don’t blame me for not warning you first.”

Qin Jinhuan stared at her for a few seconds and eventually he loosened up his grip. Then he said, “Tomorrow I will transfer Anran to the marketing department.”

His sudden decision shocked Mu Yu. However, the intimacy surrounding the way he addressed Anran made her extremely uncomfortable. As such, she could not be bothered and sneered, “So you are sick of having an affair in the office and now you want to have a change in taste?”

“Mu Yu!”

“I am sure it doesn’t feel good that all of your thoughts are exposed.”

He unhappily frowned but he still patiently said, “Actually you don’t have to be jealous of me and Anran. We are not in an affair like you thought, we are…”

Mu Yu was not in the mood to listen to his explanation and cut him off. “Jealous? Mr. Qin I think you are overthinking. We are merely in a contractual marriage so why do I have to be jealous? Furthermore, I still have a huge case that I am working on in the task force that has yet to be solved. I don’t have the time to be jealous.”

After saying that, she paused and stopped talking for a while. Then, with a lowered voice, she sincerely said, “Nonetheless at the end of the day, we are still a married couple. Let’s try and put ourselves in each other’s shoes. I don’t have any other intention with setting up those three rules. I am merely covering up so that our image as a loving couple remains as it is. I hope that Mr. Qin will keep that in mind.”

Upon hearing that, Qin Jinhuan was extremely upset and his plan of providing an explanation vanished into thin air. When she walked out of the lounge, there was a sorrowful look on his face.”

“Brother-in-law…”

Just then, a soft voice of a woman could be heard. He opened his eyes and saw half of Yin Anran’s facing popping out from behind the entrance of the lounge. She was staring at him with tears in her eyes. He sighed and slowly walked over.

When he walked past Yin Anran’s side, she suddenly dragged onto him and gave him a pitiful look. She sobbed and asked, “Brother-in-law, you don’t want me around in your life anymore?”

Qin Jinhuan gave her a conflicted look and kept quiet.

“Brother-in-law, I know my mistake and I promise I won’t be capricious anymore. I won’t bring you anymore trouble. Please don’t abandon me. Since my sister’s death, you are my only relative left. If you are going to abandon me, what’s the point of me living in this world anymore? Might as well I head over to accompany my sister.” Yin Anran burst out crying.

“Anran! Don’t sprout nonsense!”

“I am not sprouting nonsense, I am merely saying the truth. You are the only person I can entrust my life with. If you choose to abandon me, there is no reason for me to continue being alive.” Yin Anran suddenly leaped into his arms and continued wailing.

“Alright, stop crying. Who said that I was going to abandon you? Stop overthinking.” Qin Jinhuan pushed her away but he did so gently.

“But I am really afraid that you would abandon me as I am afraid of losing you. I no longer have my sister to accompany me so I cannot afford to lose you anymore,” Yin Anran said as she once again leaped into his arms while crying.

He hesitated for a while but eventually he placed his hand on Yin Anran’s back. He sighed and said, “Don’t worry, I will always be here for you.”

“Really?” She pushed him away and looked at him in excitement. Upon seeing him nod his head, she reacted like a child and carefully asked, “Would you really care for me and love me like you used to?”

“Yes.”

“You have to keep to your words.”

Yin Anran tilted her head sideways and stretched out her pinky finger to make a promise. Qin Jinhuan saw that and it reminded him of the scenario ten years ago when he brought her out from the funeral parlour. It got him emotional and he could not bear to disappoint her. As such, he emulated her actions and also stretched out his pinky finger.

When she saw her pinky finger interlocked with his pinky finger, she happily said, “Thank you brother-in-law.” However, she could not help but burst out crying right after that.”

“Why are you crying again?”

She sobbed and apologized. “Brother-in-law, I am sorry. I don’t want to cry but I just can’t help it. Whenever the thought that you are going to abandon me crossed my mind, my heart hurts and it makes me cry in pain.”

“Didn’t I say that I wouldn’t abandon you?”

“I know, I am just emotional.” Yin Anran wiped her tears off and sniffled. Then she said, “Brother-in-law, I am sorry. I know that because of me, there is a huge misunderstanding between you and Miss Mu. I will find time to explain everything with her.”

“There is no need for that.”

“But brother-in-law…”

“I will resolve the issue on my own. You just have to listen to what I say and focus on doing your job.”

“That’s a given. However, there are certain habits that would take some time for me to change. Nonetheless, I will try my best to not cause Miss Mu any further misunderstanding and I will also try not to bring you any trouble.”

“Okay,” Qin Jinhuan said as he looked at Yin Anran’s hand.

Yin Anran who was hugging onto his arm quickly let go and smiled apologetically at him. “Brother-in-law, I am sorry. I am used to doing this but I will keep this in mind the next time.”

“Alright. Go ahead and do your work.”

“Alright, brother-in-law.”

“Anran.”

“Yes?” Yin Anran who was going to turn around and get going immediately stopped in her steps when she heard Qin Jinhuan calling her name. She stared at him with her eyes being wide open.

Qin Jinhuan paused for a moment but eventually said, “Oh nothing, go ahead and get going.” Yin Anran blinked but did not question him any further about it. However, when she turned around, a ruthless glint came from her eyes that was completely inconsistent with her cute and innocent look shown to Qin Jinhuan.

Qin Jinhuan did not notice the peculiar look on her face. He merely stared at his office where he was alone and pondered.

If it hadn’t been for me, Yi Anjing wouldn’t have passed away at such a young age. Yin Anran was the only person she was worried about and so she asked me to take care of Anran. It was also the only thing she requested from me. I have to make sure I do it well. That was also the explanation he gave towards Wen Zeyu when Wen Zeyu questioned him about being overly caring towards Yin Anran. However, only he himself knew that was only a superficial reason. As for the actual reason behind it, he had never revealed it to anyone.

The very first time that Qin Jinhuan came into contact with Yin Anran was when she was nine years old. Although her parents passed away when she was young, under the protection of her ten year old sister, she did not experience much hardships in life. The first impression of her was that she was a lively, naughty and carefree person. She was also an outgoing person. Thus, even though he was serious and reserved during their first meeting, she was not afraid of him and shamelessly addressed him as her brother-in-law. She said that it was an honour to have such a handsome brother-in-law.

However, the next time they met, it was at the funeral parlour. She was lying on her sister’s corpse and she was wailing. The first sentence she said to him was, “I lost my sister and I don’t have a home anymore.”

That reminded him of the frame of mind he was in when his mother passed away. Back then, he was also as helpless as she was and he was also crying his eyes out. As such, he was able to empathize with her situation and he subconsciously made a promise to her. “Don’t worry, I am still here. As long as I am around, you still have a place to call home.”

From then onwards, he was no longer the usual indifferent and arrogant self in front of her. Instead, he treated her like a close family member and took great care of her.

Three years ago, he took up Wen Zeyu’s suggestion and sent her overseas for a private and secret further studies session. As such, she only came back a month ago. Based on the promise made to her three years ago, she arrived at Qing Tian Group to work.

I had no idea a promise made three years ago would bring me so much trouble.

His gaze subconsciously landed on the cup of jasmine tea in front of him. He picked up the cup and when his fingers came into contact with the cold cup, that was only when he realized that Mu Yu had already left for quite some time. Her cold and disdainful look flashed across his eyes and the look in his eyes became even more solemn.

On the other side, Mu Yu who was in a bad mood, went over to the meeting room upon leaving Qin Jinhuan’s office. The meeting room was an office area freed up by Qing Tian Group for the joint task force to work in.

Rong Jian and the others had already come back from the canteen. They had returned to the meeting room and were in discussion about certain problems. Upon Mu Yu’s arrival, they merely lifted their heads up in acknowledgement and continued on with their discussion.

When Mu Yu heard that they were talking about matters that had already been discussed prior to this, she was not in the mood to continue listening. She went towards a corner and lowered her head to ponder.

Nobody knew how frustrated she was at the moment.

Truth be told, when she saw Qin Jinhuan being around with Yin Anran, she was extremely furious. She was so tempted to rush forward and throw some punches as well as curse and swear at them. However, her intellect and personality restricted her from doing so.

You have no idea how badly I wanted to throw away my personality and reasoning just to become an unreasonable shrew.

Due to that issue, she was unhappy the entire morning and even when she headed to the canteen for lunch, she was still not in a good mood.

After lunch, Rong Jian and his team planned to visit the masses. Although nobody called for her to follow along, she took her work seriously and chose to follow along with them. However shortly after, her stomach acted up again. In order not to hinder the progress of her other team members, she had no choice but to call Rong Jian and excuse herself. After consuming some mineral water as well as taking the leftover diarrhea medicine from yesterday, she paid a few visits to the public restroom and eventually she was in a better condition.

Just as she got out of the public restroom and was about to give Rong Jian a call to inquire about their whereabouts, somebody patted her on the back. She naturally turned around and when she saw who it was, she gasped with surprise.
