My Lovely Wife is a Forensic Doctor - Chapter 103
Chapter 103 Suspicions In The Memorial
An City was still as cold as ever even though there were no snow storms like in the Northland. The cold winds brushed through people’s necks, able to make even a strong tall man shiver.
But no matter how cold it was, it still wasn’t able to stop people from going to the graves as it was the winter solstice. According to An City’s traditions, families will gather and visit the graves on three separate days; the Qingming Festival, the Hungry Ghost Festival, and the Winter Solstice.
Inside Tai Cemetery at Cheng Xi, Mu Yu, clad in duffle-coat, was there with Jiang Wenwen. They had a bouquet of fresh flowers each on their hands as they walked up a newly placed tomb.
It was the tomb of Yan Xiaobing and his mother. Their corpses were still stuck together after they burned themselves and weren’t able to be taken apart. The cremation centre had no choice but to cremate their remains together. There were two new tombstones at the side; they were of Yan Xiaobing’s father and wife.
After Yan Xiaobing died, Rong Jian finally saw the message he sent him in advance. He begged him to not bury them back at his hometown as he did not want his mother to be tortured even in her afterlife. He asked for them to be cremated and for their ashes to be scattered inside the river. Rong Jian originally wanted to follow on his request, but Qin Jinhuan found him and said that he was willing to donate some money to build a tomb for Yan Xiaobing’s family. Hence the reason why there were three new unknown tombstones being raised here without anyone’s knowledge.
Jiang Wenwen placed the bouquet of flowers in front of the tombstone and sighed as she asked Mu Yu, “Do you think Xiaobing will be able to reunite with his families again down there?”
“I think so.” Mu Yu silently replied as she bowed.
Mu Yu was actually an atheist.
“But Xiaobing did a lot of unforgivable things to other people. Do you think the devil would just leave him be? I’m afraid that the devil will banish him into the lowest depths of hell and let him suffer by torture. This won’t do, I need to burn more money offerings so he can bribe the devil.”
“Hey, Wenwen!” Mu yu hastily pulled on Jiang Wenwen who was rushing to leave. “Weren’t you always sceptical about supernatural things? Why is it today that you…”
“I was, but seeing the death of Xiaobing and his mother had an impact on me. Karma comes and goes; it’s not that the bad won’t get the justice they deserve, it’s just that time has yet to come. Even though Xiaobing has done a few good deeds in his life. Compared to the bad things that he had done, the good deeds would just become unnoticed. That’s why he died tragically.”
“So according to what you’re saying, Sun Meilan would suffer even more after she died?”
Jiang Wenwen gritted her teeth as soon as she heard the name, “The devil rewards the worthy while he gives punishments to those who deserve it. People like her deserve to be banished into the depths of hell and punished after she died. And after she received all of her punishments, she should vanish forever so she won’t be able to bring more harm to others in the next life. Wait for me here, Yu. I’m going to buy more paper money offerings at the park entrance.”
“If the devil is very clear with his rewards and punishments, then you don’t need to burn more paper money to bribe him.”
Jiang Wenwen stopped in her tracks as she thought what Mu Yu said was reasonable. She stared silently at the pictureless tombstone.
Even though Yan Xiaobing has been dead for half a month, there were still discussions regarding him on the internet. Some people even turned his expressions into psychotic killer emotes. This made her feel angry and helpless.
She could not understand why people were hesitant to let him off even after his death. Why don’t people try to think on his position, understand and forgive him?”
Mu Yu gently embraced Jiang Wenwen as she looked silently while her friend shed her tears. She knew her feelings were jumbled up inside. She could only convey her support through her eyes.
“Yu,” Jiang Wenwen pushed her slightly and said in a regretful manner, “after Xiaobing got out from the hospital, if only me and the neighbors around was attentive enough toward his mental state and did not just help him on the material belongings, then we could have known earlier about the problem with his state of mind. We could have brought him to the hospital earlier for treatments, then he wouldn’t have been tortured by his mind and body and everything after that wouldn’t have happened.”
“But there are no ‘ifs’ in this world.” Mu Yu sighed as she could not help but put herself in other people’s shoes.
Ever since Grandpa laid out all the cards to Qin Jinhuan, he had become more busy with work to the point of coming back home late at night. Firstly she thought he was busy trying to make his business more successful, but after listening to one of Grandpa’s calls scolding him, she finally realised that he wasn’t even busy. He came back late just so he could avoid spending time alone with her. This realisation made her feel extremely sad.
She tried to have a conversation with him when he came back late. She tried to shorten the distance between them, but she realised there was a barrier between them. Even though it could not be seen, she was unable to go past it.
Just like how Jiang Wenwen was unable to understand why people were reluctant to forgive Yan Xiaobing; she also was unable to understand why Qin Jinhuan, who was so caring toward her before, would treat her coldly after Grandpa had come clean to him.
After a long time of thinking, she finally concluded, even though she tried very hard to deny this; that when people were down, they would accept any kinds of feelings not because they felt the same way, but only because they were lonely and needed comfort. Just as Qin Jinhuan from the beginning. If he were to really love her, then he would not have left her alone even after what had happened.
After she decided on this conclusion, she was extremely heartbroken where she even cried alone.
She despised the days where she was ignored despite sleeping and staying with him under one roof. There were many times where she wanted to ask for a divorce while staring at his sleeping back. But she was afraid to mutter those words. Because her heart was already tyranicaly taken over by him, she could not just let him go. Everytime, she would despise herself for not being able to put these feelings down.
“Yeah, there are no ‘ifs’ in life. Everything is determined by fate.”
Jiang Wenwen’s soft sigh made Mu Yu’s nose itch.
If it wasn’t for Grandpa’s plan, then she wouldn’t have gotten to know Qin Jinhuan; if Grandpa did not lay his cards on the table, then Mu Yu and Qin Jinhuan would not have become like this. There were no ‘ifs’ in real life. It seemed that she was fated to have a difficult relationship.
Seeing how sad her friend was, Jiang Wenwen thought that she was also mourning after the Yan family. She took a few deep breaths and pulled her best friend and smiled as she tried to comfort her, “Since this is all decided by fate, we won’t be able to do anything about it. Let’s just accept it and let nature take its course.
Let nature take its course?
Mu Yu stared blankly at her best friend.
Well then, there will definitely be an outcome when the time is right. In one’s life, when one’s wish comes true, it finally comes true, but one is disappointed, one doesn’t insist.
She forced a smile on her face.
Jiang Wenwen crouched and straightened the fresh flowers that were left on the ground. She stood up and paid her respect to the tomb and was ready to take her leave.
“Huh! Wait Yu! Look over there!”
Mu Yu stopped instantly from stepping forward as she heard Jiang Wenwen exclaim. She looked toward the place where she pointed.
The Tai Cemetery was divided into bungalow area, high-rise area, and villa area. The cemetery in the bungalow area had a small space and the tomb was quite crowded. The environment was normal making the price cheap; the high-rise area was not as crowded and the price was more expensive. As for the villa area, it was situated in the north with the best natural scenery in Tai Cemetery. It was stated by ‘masters’ that the ‘Feng Shui’ for that place was the most valuable in the park. Coupled with its luxurious design, the cemetery maintenance was also done excellently. From a distance, it looked like a row of beautifully built showrooms. This made the price of a cemetery to be close to the price of high-end three-bedrooms in the city. Therefore, the working average people were only able to look up on the cemetery as this was a place built for the riches.
Jiang Wenwen pointed exactly toward the villa at Tai Cemetery.
“Look at what?” Mu Yu looked over at the people who were heading to the villa after visiting the grave with a puzzled look on her face.
“Huh?” Jiang Wenwen tipped toed and tried to look harder. She changed her position but finally gave up and scratched her head, “Did I mislook?”
“What did you see?”
“Umm, nothing? Maybe I saw something wrong. Let’s leave.” Jiang Wenwen smiled sheepishly and tugged on her arm.
“Did you see a ghost?” Mu Yu smiled as she teased her.
“It wasn’t like that! Hey Yu! I remembered you told me that Young Master Qin’s mother was also buried here somewhere inside Tai Cemetery right?”
“Yes. Oh,” Mu Yu patted her forehead and exclaimed, “I forgot about this. I should buy some flowers and pay tribute to his mother.”
“Do you know where his mother’s tomb is?”
“Yes, it’s right where you just pointed at.” Mu Yu followed suit and pointed toward the villa knocking away her friend’s hand. She said, “Wait here Wenwen, I will go buy some flowers.”
“Hey! Yu!” Jiang Wenwen pulled her and said, “Since it is Young Master Qin’s mother, then you should pay your respects together with him. It won’t be appropriate if it is only you.”
“He, he’s busy with work. Maybe he forgot today is the winter solstice.”
“Can’t you just remind him if he forgot?”
“Then… Then I would be bothering his work. I’ll just do it in his place.”
“Hey hey!” Jiang Wenwen pulled her back again, “You haven’t even called him yet, how would you know he is busy? Maybe he is free now, or maybe he already arrived at Tai Cemetery. You should make a call and ask him first.”
Mu Yu did not want her friend to find out that she was having problems with Qin Jinhuan as she saw her looking over with curiosity. She wanted to give an excuse and deceive her friend, but was unable to do so when she asked if she ‘was in a conflict’ with one another. She immediately called Qin Jinhuan even though she was driven by guilt.
But the thought of her being able to hear his voice upon making this call made her heart flutter and she could not contain her excitement.
Quickly the phone went through and Qin Jinhuan’s deep voice rang, “Hm?”
“Umm… You, are you in the office?”
“Yeah.”
“Are you busy?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, continue your work then.” Mu Yu ended the call as if she was done with her mission. She nonchalantly turned toward her friend and shrugged, “He’s at the office and he’s very busy.”
“Oh.”
Upon no further questions from her friend, Mu Yu walked with her head down toward the park’s entrance after she said, “I will be buying some flowers. Don’t go anywhere, I will be back soon.”
Jiang Wenwen stared at her friend’s back and unknowingly averted her eyes toward the villa area. She had a trace of doubt and worry in her eyes.
Not too long after, Mu Yu came back with a bouquet of flowers and led Jiang Wenwen to Lin Sijun’s tomb inside the Tai Cemetery’s villa area.
Upon seeing there were no trace of anybody that came to visit the tomb, Jiang Wenwen led out a sigh of relief and she felt better instantly.
After cleaning the grave, they went downhill to leave the park.
Their divisions were in seperate ways so Jiang Wenwen left first since her bus arrived first. Mu Yu was suddenly thirsty while waiting for the bus. She decided to walk around to look for a shop to buy a drink since the bus was yet to arrive. And at the exact moment, a car that was parked inside a parking lot caught her eye.
