Chapter 102 Silent Man
“Huan? You, what are you doing here?”
Mu Yu never thought that the person she was longing for but was too shy to meet would be standing in front of her door.
Qin Jinhuan stood there silently without answering. He only glanced at her.
She felt anxious seeing him act like this without any reason. She was stunned.
Wen Zeyu suddenly popped up behind Qin Jinhuan and said in a lighthearted manner, “He’s here because he wanted to have lunch with you, Mu Yu.”
“Ze Yu? You’re here too?” Wen Zeyu’s presence made Mu Yu calmed down a bit.
“Yep. I will be treating everyone to lunch today so of course I would be here. I hope you would do me a favor and have lunch with us.”
Mu Yu did not answer straight away. She laughed sheepishly as she looked at Qin Jinhuan. His aloofness made her feel uncomfortable.
“Why don’t we go now, Huan?” Wen Zeyu nudged Qin Jinhuan who had yet to utter a word. He finally tugged and led him to the yard while turning around to face Mu Yu and smiled, “Let’s go Mu Yu.”
“Why don’t you both go ahead without me,” Mu Yu declined as she could see the unwillingness on Qin Jinhuan’s face, “I already promised my parents that I will be having lunch with them.”
“That won’t do Mu Yu! I have already booked a place! Uncle and Aunt have moved in here so can’t you just come and have lunch with them some time in the future? Why don’t you tag along with me this noon and I’ll give a phone call to them and explain.” Seeing how she was trying to decline again, Wen Zeyu decided to put on a sad face and said, “Mu Yu, Yingying is also coming since she knew you were. If you’re not there then won’t she make a fool out of me?”
“But…”
“No buts, come on let’s go.” Wen Zeyu pulled her, leading her outside and then helped her close the door. He pulled them out to the front yard with both on each of his hands.
“Stop tugging. Fine, I’ll go with you.”
She was looking at Qin Jinhuan while she replied. She saw that he had a dull look on his face, and it made her feelings hit rock bottom. She slowly pulled out her arms and got in Wen Zeyu’s car silently.
Wen Zeyu acted as if he did not see the unpleasant atmosphere between the two and proceeded to drive his car and asked, “What would you like to eat Mu Yu? By the way Huan, you don’t have to go back to the office since you don’t have anything important, right?”
Nobody in the back seat replied to him.
He did not mind and proceeded to say, “Sigh, I was able to invite Yingying by using both of your names. So please say something nice to her about me.”
“Of course.” Mu Yu softly replied as she did not want to make the situation more awkward.
“Thank you Mu Yu, I always knew you’re the best.” Wen Zeyu chuckled and started to hum a lighthearted song.
Qin Jinhuan sat in the back seat near the window. His eyes were fixed on the scenery outside and he did not mutter any words.
Mu Yu sat straight and stared ahead as she saw the distance between her and Qin Jinhuan. She did not show it on her face but was extremely upset because of it.
She never would have thought that after stepping into the intimate relationship with Qin Jinhuan, their feelings toward each other would come to this.
Even though she felt discomfort upon hearing her relationship with Qin Jinhuan was all just a mere scam, upon looking at it in a different perspective she still thought of it as a form of fate, so she was able to let it go. But she did not expect this would have an extreme effect to Qin Jinhuan.
Could it be that he wanted to blame all of this on her?
But it had nothing to do with her, so why would she be the one to take over the responsibilities?
She let out a bitter smile after a moment of thought.
Didn’t this prove that she was never an important person in his life since he was so indifferent toward her because of what Grandpa had done?
She did not want to admit it but had no choice and just had to face it. Since she was never good at deceiving herself and the people around her.
“Mu Yu.”
Mu Yu realised that they had arrived at the destination after she heard Rong Ying calling out on her. The door of the car was already opened, so she hurriedly took a few deep breaths. After forcing herself to calm down she got out of the car and welcomed Rong Ying with a smile. She immediately greeted Rong Jian when she saw him there.
“Mu Yu, Huan, it feels like ages since I have seen you two.” Rong Jian smiled as he put his hand over Qin Jinhuan’s shoulders and smiled toward Mu Yu.
“It wasn’t that long. Didn’t we meet the day Yan Xiaobing died?” Wen Zeyu who also got out of the car instructed the valet to help park his car.
As Yan Xiaobing was brought up, Mu Yu immediately asked Rong Jian, “Captain Rong, about Yan Xiaobing and his mother…”
“Good thing Huan helped so that Yan Xiaobing and his mother’s things were taken care of.”
Mu Yu unconsciously glanced at Qin Jinhuan. Yet he pursed his lips and followed the hostess inside without looking at Mu Yu. She couldn’t help but feel disheartened

She decided to not look at Qin Jinhuan anymore as she did not want to affect other’s feelings. She recalled the Cheng Xi Forest homicide incident and wanted to ask about it, but Wen Zeyu beat her to it and asked, “Hey Captain Rong, you said it before that Yan Xiaobing was the main suspect for Sun Meilan’s homicide case. But now that it was proven he wasn’t connected to the case at all. So I wanted to ask, who is the perpetrator of Sun Meilan’s killing?”
This question appeared to have made Rong Jian feel quite embarrassed. He smiled sheepishly as he scratched his head, “It’s still under investigation.”
“So that means the real killer is still free out there? It’s already been a month! How could you and the police be so unreliable?”
Wen Zeyu was merciless with his questions, and Mu Yu couldn’t help but want to justify it, “There were no eyewitnesses for this case and we weren’t able to find the first crime scene. The killer also did not leave any traces at all in the second crime scene, so this makes the case highly complicated and not very easy to be solved.”
Rong Ying sarcastically replied in a mocking manner, “If he was able to solve this case then he would already be the Eastern’s Great Detective.”
“What Yingying said is true,” Wen Zeyu continued on what he was saying, “I bet that Sun Meilan’s case will be the same as the mystery of Emperor Qian Long’s heritage. Unless…”
“Unless what?” Mu Yu and Rong Jian asked simultaneously.
“Unless the killer commits another killing again and becomes a serial killer, then you will be able to solve the case.”
“Don’t jinx it! You should just scram!” Rong Jian flung a kick toward him.
Wen Zeyu leaped back, dodging the kick and giggled, “Don’t you think what I said was valid?”
“You talk too much! Careful you might get your tongue chopped if the killer hears you!”
“Oh no! I’m so scared,” Wen Zeyu walked up to Rong Ying and acted as if he was pitiful, “Little Yingying, you must protect me.”
Rong Ying snickered, “Rest assured, during that moment I will definitely lend my scalpel to the killer. Then you won’t hurt that much when he is cutting down your tongue.”
Wen Zeyu looked as if he was hurt. He held his hands up to his waist and pretended to speak in a girly manner, “You all are bullying me, I’m going over to Huan,” and he left while twisting his hips in an exaggerated manner, looking for Qin Jinhuan.
His actions made Mu Yu amused. She laughed alongside Rong Ying as she wasn’t able to contain her laughter.
Wen Zeyu was making jokes and this made Mu Yu who was trying to manage her feelings feel instantly lighthearted. She did not lock her gaze toward Qin Jinhuan when she entered the dining room with Rong Ying.
Because Wen Zeyu and Rong Jian’s presence was able to regulate the atmosphere in the dining room, even though Qin Jinhuan did not say anything the atmosphere was still delightful.
Rong Jian immediately left after their meal as he still had some things to do back in his office. He was being mocked by Wen Zeyu regarding Sun Meilan’s case before he left.
“The cinema on the third floor has a lot of new movies currently. How about we go watch one?” Wen Zeyu suggested as he was reluctant to leave.
Mu Yu saw that he kept signaling her and instantly caught on. She held on Rong Ying and said, “I haven’t been to the cinema for quite a while.”
“Then let’s just go. It’s not a big deal.”
He never thought that Rong Ying would oblige easily. He was thankful and immediately ushered Qin Jinhuan, “You go to the cinema first and get some tickets while I will pay for the bill here.”
Qin Jinhuan was not willing at all. He looked over at him coldly while taking out his phone.
Rong Ying stopped him right away, “Huan, are you thinking of letting the staff clear the whole cinema? What fun will it be for only four people to be in the cinema?”
Wen Zeyu gave Qin Jinhuan a stink eye and said, “I bet Huan doesn’t even know how to buy a movie ticket. Why don’t you go instead Yingying.”
“Tsk, how could Huan not even know how to do a simple task?” Rong Ying snickered and shoved Qin Jinhuan out the door, “Huan, don’t let him look down on you!”
Qin Jinhuan hesitated for a moment but continued to walk out the dining room.
Mu Yu was staring at his back as he left and sighed.
Time passed, and Wen Zeyu brought the girls up to the third floor’s cinema after paying for their meal. They found Qin Jinhuan waiting in the lounge.
“What movie? What time will it air? Is my seat next to Yingying?” Wen Zeyu could not wait and rushed Qin Jinhuan to get the tickets out. After seeing the title of the movie he immediately held up his thumb and exclaimed, “Woah, couple seat for a horror movie! You know me well Huan!”
Mu Yu was delighted seeing him as Rong Ying glared at him. But she did not say anything further to not make the atmosphere become dull.
But as they were waiting in line to get to their seats, Rong Ying received a call saying that one of her patients was having some complications so she had to rush back to the hospital. Wen Zeyu did not want to force her to stay as he knew it was an emergency, so he left with Rong Ying.
Mu Yu let out a sigh after seeing their figures go inside the elevator. Before Qin Jinhuan was able to say anything she quickly uttered, “Let’s go back too.”
“We already bought the tickets. There’s no need to waste them. Why don’t you go on ahead.” Qin Jinhuan flatly replied and handed the tickets to Mu Yu.
His words startled her, but she did not question any further. She took the tickets and silently entered the cinema alone.
On the other side, Rong Ying was sitting inside a car anxiously asking Wen Zeyu, “What makes you so sure that Huan will watch the movie with Mu Yu?”
“Based on the type of movie he chose.”
“Huh?”
Wen Zeyu changed from his happy-go-lucky demeanor. He stepped on the brakes as he let out a sigh, then slowly replied, “There are some memories where you should take time to write over.”
Rong Ying opened her mouth but no words came out. She silently held her head down.
At the same moment, Mu Yu was sitting alone on the couple’s seat feeling confused as she was staring blankly at the big cinema screen.
She absolutely despised the way she got along with Qin Jinhuan today. Yet, she did not know how to break the awkwardness.
“Here.”
A cup of cold plum juice and a bucket of popcorn suddenly appeared in front of her. She looked up and saw Qin Jinhuan holding it toward her. She was surprised, forgetting to receive the food and beverages.
“Dig in.” He sat closely beside her.
Upon hearing the warmness of his voice, she immediately felt overwhelmed and her nose started to become sore. She hurriedly took the popcorn and the drink. She did not want to turn down his kindness even though she had never liked the two food items before.
“This movie has good reviews.”
“Really?” Qin Jinhuan started a conversation with her again. Her throat began to feel numb but she did not want him to catch hold of this. She started to eat the popcorn to hide the giddiness inside her heart.
“Yeah.” He did not speak anymore after replying as the movie was about to start.
The beginning of the movie started with a lot of scary scenes. But this was just a piece of cake for a forensic doctor like Mu Yu. She pretended to be afraid and leaned on him as she wanted to mend their relationship and to cope with the screams surrounding them. She was ready to be pushed aside, but did not expect for Qin Jinhuan to comfort and hold her in his arms.
She was in disbelief at first, but after trying a few more times she was absolutely delighted.
He wasn’t being like that with her on purpose!
He still loved her!
She wasn’t able to hold it in and started to cry softly in his arms.
He felt her sudden change. He did not utter any words, but instead he softly patted her back and wiped away her tears.
His actions warmed her. She held his waist tight while putting on a blissful smile on her face.
I will give you some time. She silently mumbled in her heart.
“I still need to get back to the office. Let Zijun send you back home.” He told her after they finished watching the movie.
She replied, “I still want to walk around the shopping center and buy some things. You go do your thing, I’ll be fine.”
He did not oppose and said, “Sure, make sure to take care of yourself,” and left toward the elevator alone.
She silently watched over his slowly disappearing figure until he vanished inside the elevator. She then turned around and walked toward the window to look down on the empty space below.
After a few minutes, Qin Jinhuan’s figure was in her sight again.
She watched him slowly walk to the side of the road until he got in Huang Bo’s car. He then disappeared from her vision.
“Huan…”
She felt dull as she called out to him. She then walked toward the escalator and went down. She silently walked on the road alone.
A gush of cold wind brushed her as she tugged on her coat tight. She realised the weather had become much colder.
Huh, looks like winter is coming soon.
She was not sure whether his attitude toward her would become better with the change of the seasons. Would they become more intimate? Would his company be more successful? Would the soul of Yan Xiaobing and his mother find peace? Would Sun Meilan’s killer be apprehended?
Everything was not fixed until the result came
She stopped in her tracks and raised her head.
The sky was blue as the sea. The sun slowly drifted to the west as if it were bringing sunshine and warmth to the people who were cold due to the winter.
The yellow cinnamon trees at the side of the roads have yet to lose their greens. Its scent filled the air around her with the soft sound of leaves brushing as wind flew by. It was as if they were smiling and nodding at her.
Her surroundings made her feel blissful.
She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. She smiled as she opened her eyes, her steps had gotten lighter.
Yes, she believed that she will be having new beautiful encounters in the seasons to come.
She was excited and could not wait for that moment to come…
