Chapter 66: Strange Whereabouts
“No, no. It’s impossible that you want to chase Ran Ran. After all, you have a girlfriend,” Lan Xin analyzed by herself. “That’s still not right. Even if you dated Ran Ran, you still have a new girlfriend. Yet you’re so concerned about Ran Ran. Won’t your girlfriend be jealous?”
“Him? It’s not as simple as you think.” Ye Lin looked at Chen Chen and smiled.
“What’s going on, Brother Chen?” Lan Xin’s eyes widened curiously.
“Didn’t Bai Ran mention anything to you?” Chen Chen took a sip of wine and seemed to be in thought.
“No.” Lan Xin pouted. She suddenly thought of something and slapped her thigh. “Oh, I was wondering why your girlfriend keeps looking for Ran Ran. I almost thought she had something to do with Director Jiang.”
Chen Chen knew in private that Hu Wan had gone to the company to look for Bai Ran, but he had not told Hu Wan about it.
“What does she say every time she comes over?” Chen Chen asked.
“It’s just a show of sisterhood. There was even a time when she especially showed Ran Ran the video of the two of you picking rings on the trending searches! It’s so funny. Why didn’t she act better? It’s as if she’s afraid that others wouldn’t know that she was here to declare sovereignty over you…” Lan Xin became more and more agitated as she spoke. Then, she quickly covered her mouth. “I’m sorry, Brother Chen. I forgot that she’s your girlfriend. I spoke too much.”
“It’s okay. You’re just telling the truth,” Chen Chen said calmly. He was a little frustrated and poured all the wine into his mouth.
If Hu Wan kept agitating her like this, would she stay further away…
“But Brother Chen, and Brother Ye Lin, I don’t know if I’m being too nosy. I’m not gossiping about Ran Ran. I just feel that you’re both Bai Ran’s friends and are more concerned about her…” Lan Xin explained, hesitating to speak.
However, she was interrupted by Chen Chen. “Just tell me directly what’s wrong. What’s wrong with her?”
“It was noon when Ran Ran suddenly went out mysteriously. I called her but she rejected my call. At that time, Director Jiang and I were so anxious that we prepared to go out to look for her. Although she returned later and her expression was normal, I saw that she was a little absent-minded the entire afternoon, so I guessed that something must have happened,” Lan Xin said with a frown.
“I don’t want to ask about Ran Ran’s privacy. It’s just that I rarely see her in this state when she’s working, so I’m a little worried. Later, I asked her, but she was unwilling to tell me. She only told me that she was fine.” Lan Xin immediately added, “In short, I want everyone to pay more attention in private and care for her.”
Hearing Lan Xin’s words, the image of the mysterious phone call he had heard her answer at Bai Ran’s house previously surfaced in Chen Chen’s mind.
What was she hiding? Damn it, she did not tell him anything!
“Our Ran Ran is beginning to have secrets too,” Ye Lin said thoughtfully.
“Yes,” Chen Chen replied casually, but his hand had already picked up another cup of wine and drunk it in one gulp.
It was almost late at night.
The next day was the weekend, so Lan Xin left with Ye Lin again. Chen Chen found a designated driver and drove to Bai Ran’s house.
Chen Chen got out of the car and was already a little unsteady.
He had felt vexed earlier and had drunk a little too much unconsciously.
Chen Chen narrowed his eyes and looked up at Bai Ran’s window. The light was not on.
“That’s true. It’s already so late. She must have fallen asleep long ago,” Chen Chen said silently.
Chen Chen staggered upstairs. He did not want to disturb her, but he subconsciously wanted to be closer to her.
He walked to Bai Ran’s door and sat down.
His mind was in a daze, and he kept recalling the various scenes between Bai Ran and him.
After a long time, when Chen Chen was about to lose consciousness, someone suddenly shook him.
Chen Chen struggled to raise his eyes. The light in the corridor was switched on. He covered his eyes and looked at the person with difficulty. It was Bai Ran.
“Why are you here? How much wine did you drink? The smell of alcohol is so strong.” Bai Ran pulled Chen Chen, whose face was red, up and prepared to open the door.
