Muchuan and Xiang Wan - Chapter 535
Chapter 535: His Identity
Passed away!
Passed away!?
In the smoky and choking air, Director Ye’s words were like a soft knife.
Bai Muchuan narrowed his eyes dangerously. Before he said anything, he saw Cui Jiaying’s head that she had been trying hard to lift up, lean back slowly onto the bed.
She stared at the ceiling without making another sound. She was as quiet as a corpse in the suffocating air.
Bai Muchuan took a look at her. “We’ll evacuate first!”
“D*rn! This one is another one that’s not afraid of death.” Quan Shaoteng put on a mask but still coughed a lot. Then he tried to cover his nose with his sleeve and he felt that his lungs and throat were burning hot. He was also pushing the hospital stretcher and looked at Cui Jiaying who was lying on the stretcher. “If I didn’t stop him in time,” persuaded Quan Shaoteng, “you would have been killed by him. We saved you again so you should be honest and come clean with us by telling all that you know. Just look, your organisation has given you up already…”
Cui Jiaying stayed quiet.
The tears in the corners of her eyes flowed down quietly, she didn’t even have the strength to sob…
“Her condition is not good! She might not hold out for long.”
Cheng Zheng suddenly stopped and alerted everyone then he looked at Director Ye.
“We can’t leave. We must send her to the emergency treatment room right away!”
Cui Jiaying’s physical condition was, of course, in a bad state. Director Ye’s perspiration on his forehead rolled down to his cheeks.
The smoke was thick and heavy and they couldn’t stop coughing. He nearly fainted because of the suffocating smoke. How could he save her?
“Umm…”
“We need to save her!” Cheng Zheng was very persistent.
Bai Muchuan glanced toward his face which had turned grim and quickly took a look outside. “Let’s save her!”
By this time, the fire was under control by the firefighters. The smoke was dispersing gradually.
Director Ye swiped off his sweat and gritted his teeth.
“Emergency room! Quick—”
They were at the hospital and therefore, were able to access the facilities there. Although Cui Jiaying might not be willing to wake up, after two hours of emergency rescue, she woke up again.
When she opened her eyes, the first thing she did was to ask about the man.
“Where is… he?”
Bai Muchuan was wearing the doctor’s coat and was standing beside the hospital bed, looking at her coldly.
“Dead.”
“…”
“It’s cyanide poisoning. Prior to coming to the hospital, he had already prepared himself for the worst.”
“…”
Cui Jiaying’s lips were colorless and she closed her eyes again.
“Since you’re already awake, let’s talk,” said Bai Muchuan casually, “you have so many things on your mind, you won’t feel at ease even if you’re dead.”
Cui Jiaying opened her eyes slowly after a while and looked at him. “I want to know if he was here to kill me or save me?”
Bai Muchuan did not say anything.
He was not at the scene but even so, for Quan Shaoteng who was at the scene, he wouldn’t have known what that man was thinking either.
Right in the beginning when they planned this trap, everyone had deemed that the person who would come walking into their trap was there to kill her.
But after that, they realized that the man didn’t carry any weapons with him.
Apart from the cyanide in his mouth, there was nothing on him that was lethal.
However, that didn’t mean he was not there to take her life.
After deliberating for a moment, Bai Muchuan asked her back. “What do you think?”
Cui Jiaying said with difficulty, “I wanted to know too…”
Bai Muchuan furrowed his eyebrows. “Is this very important?”
Cui Jiaying replied weakly, “Very important.”
“…”
A few seconds later, Bai Muchuan asked, “Who is he?”
This time, Cui Jiaying was frank. “He’s… my ex-husband.”
…
Name: Kong Yunhai
Gender: Male
Age: 35 years old
Place of birth: Ji City
Identity: Cui Jiaying’s ex-husband, the biological father of Cui Jiaying’s son.
The identity of the deceased was quickly confirmed.
Kong Yunhai and Cui Jiaying got married because of love. They gave birth to a baby boy five months after marriage. The relationship between the two of them was enviable to many. Back then, Kong Yunhai owned a large restaurant chain in Ji City. In those years, the economy was developing by leaps and bounds and his business was booming. Everything was great then.
But sometimes, people are not satisfied with what they have.
People with a lot of money did not necessarily translate to higher intelligence.
When Kong Yunhai had a lot of money, like many others, he got arrogant.
He didn’t think about how he could make good use of the money to elevate the social status of his family to another level. Instead… he fell in love with gambling.
Needless to say, one could already predict what happened later.
All around the world, people who were gambling addicts tend to have a similar end—their families were torn apart.
Ever since Kong Yunhai took to gambling, his focus was no longer about his business. He kept gambling and kept losing.
Gradually, Kong Yunhai lost all his fortune and had already forgotten how he had promised to give his wife, Cui Jiaying a good life and more—
He owed huge amounts of debt and never knew that it was all a trap.
Cui Jiaying did try her best to persuade him, but it didn’t work. It escalated to her crying then she started to berate him and both of them finally came to blows. Both of them were in such a bad relationship that the only way out was divorce. As Cui Jiaying was not working back then, she was not given the custody of her son. She had thought that the reason she lost custody of her son was that she was useless. Hence, she never thought that it was all a conspiracy.
Kong Yunhai did not allow her to visit their only son.
Because of this, Cui Jiaying had cried and created a fuss over it. She tried all ways and means that she could think of…
However, up till now, she still hadn’t seen her son.
Kong Yunhai’s most initial excuse was that their son was brought back to his mother’s hometown.
When Cui Jiaying went to look up her mother-in-law, she did not manage to find her son. Then Kong Yunhai said that he had sent the kid to an elite school in another city.
All in all, she was not allowed to visit her kid.
Cui Jiaying tried to appeal to the court before but as she couldn’t afford the long civil lawsuit, she withdrew the appeal.
And as she persisted pestering her ex-husband, she finally noticed that something was off—
After Kong Yunhai divorced her, he had sold off the last restaurant under his name to pay his debts and had never had a proper job. His life was getting worse day by day. There was no way he could afford the hefty school fees of an elite school.
So, where did her son go?
After realizing the seriousness of the problem, Cui Jiaying looked up Kong Yunhai and demanded that if he still didn’t let her see their son, she would call the police…
At that moment, Kong Yunhai had no choice but to drag her down with him.
She learnt that before they had filed for divorce, he had already accumulated an enormous amount of gambling debt. The amount of interest quickly snowballed into an impossibly high amount of money that his creditor took away their son so as to threaten Kong Yunhai to pay up his debts. However, even though Kong Yunhai sold his restaurants, his house and even forced his parents to go back to their hometown, he still couldn’t pay up—
“Back then, I wished I could kill that man. But if I kill him, I might really not see my son ever again.
“I don’t know the whereabouts of my son at all. They refused to let me see him, I can’t even hear his voice… Originally, they promised me that as long as I completed my mission, I can get to see my son. But… I failed my mission.”
Bai Muchuan asked, “Why didn’t you make a police report?”
“Hah!” Cui Jiaying laughed then coughed a few times. “Do you really think that will help? Do you think they are as kind as me? The little girl that day at the cafe, I didn’t want to kill her at all… I couldn’t make myself to do that… Young children’s lives are too fragile. The moment I made up my mind to be ruthless, she would have been dead…
“My son is in their hands. I don’t dare to take a gamble… I don’t dare to gamble that they would be like me and show compassion to a child…”
