Muchuan and Xiang Wan - Chapter 257
Chapter 257: Don’t Look like a Good Guy
The two of them supported each other while walking along the long corridor.
The others were burping due to the alcohol and waved to each other before entering their rooms.
The sounds inside the inn were covered by the heavy rain.
Xiang Wan struggled to help Bai Muchuan get back to her room, panting and gasping away.
“Hey!” She threw him onto the bed and relieved her arms by stretching and swinging about while frowning away. Next, she pulled the curtains, laid onto the bed under the atmospheric light, propped her cheek and observed him for quite a while. “You’re really drunk? Wake up!” She stared and patted his face.
Bai Muchuan opened his eyes slightly.
“Mm?” He did not seem to understand.
That drowsy look of his was sexy and passionate.
Xiang Wan gasped. “Bai Muchuan, have I ever tell you before that I hate drunk men?”
Bai Muchuan mumbled, “Little Xiang Wan, did anyone tell you before that you look especially adorable when you’re angry?”
Adorable? Xiang Wan felt like sending him a punch.
A fist hit him hard on the shoulder. “Am I still adorable now?” She gritted her teeth.
“Adorable.”
She put her hands on his shoulders and shook them vigorously. “How ’bout this?”
“Adorable.”
“…” Xiang Wan put both hands on his head and shook him.
“Still adorable!”
“Urgh! Goodness!” Xiang Wan gave up.
There’s nothing to talk to a drunk man.
It’s hopeless. He’s really drunk!
Xiang Wan sat beside Bai Muchuan, listening to the rain outside the window while looking at the half-drunk and half-awake man. She felt speechless at the entire group’s behavior.
“I really wonder what all of you are thinking?”
“I don’t know about them, but for my mind…” Bai Muchuan stretched out a hand, held her waist, and pulled her toward him.
Xiang Wan noticed that the corners of his lips were slightly curved upward and his eyes were very bright.
“My mind… It’s all about you.”
Xiang Wan was so irritated that she kept poking him at his chest with a finger. “Bai Muchuan, I didn’t know you look like this when you’re drunk.”
“How do I look?”
“Like an idiot!”
Bai Muchuan stroked her cheek with a smile. “Do you want this idiot to accompany you for a while?”
Xiang Wan tried to keep her voice low, but her tone still sounded rather annoyed. “You can really sleep in this situation?”
Bai Muchuan pulled and covered Xiang Wan with the quilt. “I can. As long as you’re here, I can sleep well.”
Xiang Wan’s heart was burning with worry, yet he did not seem to care and refused to let her go.
No choice. Ultimately, she gave up struggling and stared at the ceiling for a few seconds before her head rested on his shoulder.
“This is too crazy…”
She complained softly but did not say anything more.
Bai Muchuan embraced her and switched off the lights. Maybe he was really exhausted, his breathing fell on the top of her head. That felt warm and it seemed to play a part in speeding up Xiang Wan’s sleep.
They were already worn out by travelling hundreds of miles that day.
Xiang Wan yawned; she was still thinking of something, but her eyelids were starting to feel heavy.
They did not go for a bath nor did anything else. They just hugged each other like this.
It was in the middle of the night where the rhythmic pitter-pattering of rain hit against the windows.
Outside the windows, the winds were sweeping against the pine trees on the mountain wave after wave, raging through the area and howling away!
Clack! All of a sudden, there was the sound of the door being opened.
After a momentary silence, the door was slowly pushed open.
It was pitch dark inside the room.
The two persons outside the door walked slowly toward the bed.
One of them stood near the bed, while the other went over to Xiang Wan’s luggage.
“D*rn, it’s locked!”
“The suitcase is not opened?”
“… No.”
“There’s a passcode lock?”
“Yes.”
“D*mmit.”
Two people were communicating in a very low voice.
“What should we do?” One of them suggested, “Why not… let’s just take the suitcase away?”
“Don’t make trouble…”
“But you sure you want to go back empty-handed?”
One of them became anxious, while the other reprimanded him in a low voice. “Shut up! Let me think…”
He had not yet finished his words when he heard a sluggish voice coming from the direction of the bed. “You want me to tell you the passcode?”
The two intruders were stunned beyond words.
Their bodies twitched upon hearing that and quickly took out their weapons.
“Don’t move!” Bai Muchuan said sternly.
Click! The lights were on.
Bai Muchuan got off the bed slowly and stood beside it. He blocked their view and the two didn’t know that Xiang Wan was underneath the quilt. The muzzle of his gun shifted between the two intruders. “Get down on your knees, hands on your head!”
“Do you think you can do what you want?”
The younger intruder had a quick temper and was about to attack any moment.
Bang! Bai Muchuan showed no mercy. The bullet grazed that fellow’s arm, causing him to growl in pain as his weapon fell to the floor.
His weapon was a dagger.
At the same time, there was a loud crashing sound coming from the door.
Someone outside banged against the closed door.
Tu Liang, Tang Yuanchu, and Ding Yifan dashed into the room and directly subdued the two intruders by pressing them against the floor, their arms pinned behind their backs.
“Better behave yourselves and don’t move!”
Such agility! Do they still look like a group of drunk men?
Bai Muchuan raised an eyebrow. He walked over to the two intruders, squatted down, and pointed his gun at the temple of one of them.
“Tell us! Who are you?”
“I-I-I…”
Under the pressure of being held at gunpoint, the younger intruder was stammering so badly that he was unable to talk.
The other intruder who was older, was quite calm.
He looked up stubbornly, staring at Bai Muchuan with his swarthy, broad face.
Hur! Bai Muchuan knocked the gun on his head. “What are you looking at? Did I ask you to talk?”
The broad-faced man struggled to break free but to no avail. He furrowed his eyebrows and took a deep breath.
“I heard that you are here to do business in Nanmu. We just wanted to find out more whilst all of you are drunk!”
Business? “How did you know that?” Bai Muchuan smiled. “What’s your relationship with the lady boss?”
The broad-faced man glanced at Bai Muchuan’s gun. “She’s not related to us. Well, any outsider who comes to Nanmu for business are only here for one type of business.”
Bai Muchuan let out a laugh upon hearing that. “I don’t understand.”
The broad-faced guy gritted his teeth. “In Nanmu, there’s only One type of business.”
A curve formed in Bai Muchuan’s lips. He squinted his eyes in thought for a while. “What if we’re not businessmen but the police instead?”
There was some hesitation on the look of the broad-faced guy. “The police will not shoot so recklessly. And you, you don’t look like a good guy!”
“…”
Xiang Wan, who was covered and under the quilt, almost laughed when she heard that.
It was lucky that she was covered by the quilt which covered her mouth, otherwise…
She suppressed her desire to laugh, but her shoulders were shaking slightly as if she was shaking with fear…
Bai Muchuan took a glance at her before nodding his head at the broad-faced guy. “Your words do make sense. But if you ascertain our identities just from this alone… aren’t you too reckless and naive?”
The broad-faced guy gave a sneer as well as a gasp due to the pain from his hands. “We’re already in your hands anyway, why not take a gamble?”
There was a short pause before he suddenly cackled in laughter. “Besides, if all of you are the police, then what about the ones on the third floor? There’s only an inn, how can there be two groups of police?”
Bai Muchuan raised a corner of his lips and exchanged glances with Tu Liang for half a second.
“How did you know they’re the police?” he asked the broad-faced guy again.
“A few of our brothers saw the Captain of the Xi City Criminal Investigation Unit.” The broad-faced guy shot a glance at Bai Muchuan. “They followed you all the way till Jiang Zhong! How can all of you be the police?”
“…”
Bai Muchuan took a gasp.
“Brother, you have a good eye! There’s no flaw in your logic!”
“Hmph! I’ve seen a lot!” On his broad, swarthy face, there was a tinge of pride. “Well, as you’ve been watched by the police, I’m afraid you’re unable to do any business in Nanmu.”
“You’re right. I don’t want to hide from you, this is my first time coming to Nanmu. And frankly, I don’t carry much hope.” Bai Muchuan looked at the broad-faced guy seriously and seemed very disappointed. “Now that we’re being watched by the police, looks like this is really a wasted trip!”
“That’s not necessarily true. What can a few police do?” The broad-faced guy boasted, “In Nanmu, it is never the police who dictates. They are like the small plates of dishes on the table. Don’t like them? Just replace them with another dish.”
The detectives wanted to cuss when they heard him provoking the police so blatantly.
Bai Muchuan, however, was still as cool as a cucumber. He looked at the broad-faced guy as though he admired him for what he said.
“Did you… do something to them?” Bai Muchuan asked.
“Those detectives?” The broad-faced guy grunted disdainfully. “We didn’t do much. Just taught them a small lesson. Don’t be a busybody!”
“I see!” Bai Muchuan moved the hand holding the gun casually, indicating Tu Liang to let go of the two men before keeping his gun back to the gun holster on his waist.
The broad-faced guy struggled a little to sit up and took a glance at the younger fellow who was hurt at the arm. Then he looked at Bai Muchuan as though he was contemplating.
“We do welcome all those who wanted to do business in Nanmu, that is, if you’re sincere about it.”
“Of course, we’re sincere,” laughed Bai Muchuan. “We’re here to look for Brother Steel specially—”
“Brother Steel?” The broad-faced guy’s expression changed slightly. “You know Brother Steel?”
Bai Muchuan had a devilish grin. “I don’t have the good fortune to know Brother Steel. It’s a friend who introduced me to him. Well, since we want to talk business, we should meet face-to-face to show our sincerity, am I right?”
After the mention of Brother Steel, the broad-faced guy was not as guarded toward them.
Just as he was about to take his mobile phone to make a call, they heard Quan Shaoteng’s languid voice near the door.
“Why is everyone not sleeping in the middle of the night! I’m getting a headache from the all these ruckus already. Luckily, I caught a few ‘chickens’. Little Bai, how are we going to cook them?”
… Goodness, so we’re going to eat some chickens?
Xiang Wan was amused by Quan Shaoteng’s words. She poked her head out from the quilt.
As the door was left open, Quan Shaoteng and Salimu walked in slowly with two sneaky-looking fellows who were caught by them.
Quan Shaoteng had a relaxed aura. He did not look like he had just come to blows with someone.
As for Salimu, he looked like a fanboy as he looked at Quan Shaoteng with admiration. “Boss,” he said to Bai Muchuan, “our… Master Quan is too powerful. Originally, I wanted to help out, but before I got closer, he has taken care of them!”
This young man was very alert as he had nearly said “Captain Quan” but quickly changed the form of address when he noticed the strange atmosphere in the room.
Bai Muchuan gave him a look of approval.
However, toward Quan Shaoteng, he did not show a pleased look.
“Of course, I’ve spent so much money to hire this mercenary. If he can’t even handle such situations, what’s the use of hiring him?”
Quan Shaoteng: “…”
He had to swallow those feelings of displeasure.
He was an experienced commando, as well as Bai Muchuan’s buddy from the army. He could tell something was up with that “make peace” scene with the thugs that broke into their rooms.
Mercenary, huh? So be it.
He licked his gums in a wicked manner and kicked the two men in front of him to their knees.
“You want to kill them, slaughter them, or whatever? Just say it.”
“What?!” The two men caught by Quan Shaoteng was already scared out of their wits. They quickly pleaded for mercy. “Brother Blackface, save us!”
Brother Blackface was the older, broad-faced guy who was negotiating with Bai Muchuan earlier.
“Useless fellows!” Brother Blackface stared at them and laughed awkwardly while facing Bai Muchuan. “This is a misunderstanding, a case of friendly fire! We’re terribly apologetic for what happened tonight! Brother, please don’t be too hard on us.”
“I’m actually fine with it,” said Bai Muchuan indolently, “but my brother here—” He swept a glance at Quan Shaoteng and pointed at his own temple. “He’s a very simple-minded person, not too bright over here,” he said as a matter-of-factly, “he hates to be disturbed when he’s sleeping. Sometimes, when he’s angry, he’ll even come at me!”
“…”
Quan Shaoteng was burning with fury inside.
However, he had to continue acting with Bai Muchuan.
He gave a cold snort and stroked his diamond ear stud, looking sinister and vicious.
“Boss, why are you talking so much? By daring to plot against us, we should simply throw them to the ditches at the mountains so they’ll be fed to the wolves!”
They echoed perfectly with each other.
Their performance was perfect.
Xiang Wan and the rest of detectives were amazed by their tacit understanding.
Brother Blackface and his lackeys were totally taken in.
When he saw that Quan Shaoteng did not seem to be cracking a joke, his expression was grim.
Nevertheless, the “enemy” were really strong, so he had no choice but to lower his stance.
“Hey brother, mind letting us off for once? Brother Steel is our Boss. Since all of you are here to look for Brother Steel, it’s equivalent to looking for us, right? So, we’re one big family, we’re brothers.”
“One big family? If we’re family, why bleeping come to our rooms and search our luggage?” Quan Shaoteng make a ferocious and menacing face as he stared at Brother Blackface. His good looks were as though twisted due to fury. “Your men not only searched through my luggage, they even took out my briefs. Tell me, shouldn’t they be slaughtered and fed to the pigs?”
“…”
Gosh, it seems that it’s true this brother is really a simpleton, thought Brother Blackface.
He decided he should not continue to talk to Quan Shaoteng but turned to Bai Muchuan instead.
“I admit. We’re at fault by not playing by the rules. How ’bout this? You let my men off, we’ll help you deal with the three detectives?”
…
