Loving the Most Handsome Man in the Capital Novel - Chapter 352
352. The Followers of Mu Yun
Translator: Storm in a Teacup
Everybody in Wang City knew of the Xiao family and how powerful it was.
Nobody had ever dared cross the Xiao family, at least for now, which unmistakably indicated how much weight the Xiao family carried with Wang City!
Where did this moron come from?! He had actually dared put up pictures of his grandfather in public places. Was he not afraid that the Xiao family might come after him?!
In addition, what the hell did that guy mean by “pancake snatcher”?! That guy seriously expected people to believe that his grandfather had snatched a pancake from him?!
Or, was that guy referring to something else by “pancake”?
But soon he caught sight of another couple of wanted posters, which, surprisingly, bore his grandmother’s picture, and there was nothing about snatching pancakes in the message on them. It was about a bounty on the queen of the demon world.
At the sight of the words, Xiao Mang and Cheng Yu both came to the conclusion that this was another person’s doing. It was only too obvious that the one putting a bounty on the Dark Queen was in their right mind, while the one placing a bounty on the alleged pancake snatcher was quite soft in the head!
“It surprises me Sect Leader Mu has so many followers. They replaced all those photos at the risk of their lives,” Cheng Yu said, deeply impressed.
Xiao Mang, however, was only concerned with if the hero who had had photos of his grandfather plastered all over the city was still alive.
“Come. Let’s go conduct a search as well and see if we can find this hero! We start from the surveillance video!” Xiao Mang said to Cheng Yu.
Cheng Yu nodded and with that the pair drove back.
After returning home, they immediately went to the study, turned on the laptop and set out to hack into the surveillance cameras on the streets. However, another weird thing happened.
That man was not in any of those surveillance videos either. They could only see images of the pictures being taken out and then put up.
After checking the videos, Xiao Mang and Cheng Yu exchanged a glance as they recalled the weirdo in Zhu Wei’s store at the same time.
“Are they the same person, by any chance?” Cheng Yu asked.
Frowning, Xiao Mang replied with a bob of his head, “I’m afraid we can’t rule out that possibility.”
“The problem is, how did they get that guy’s picture?” The surveillance cameras had failed to catch that man’s face, which meant that there was no way anybody could have got his picture, but the weird part was that Liao Ziyun and Gu Miaomiao had had a photo of him when looking for him.
The two of them produced that picture, re-checked it and with that Cheng Yu exclaimed in astonishment, “Mang, look! Isn’t this the very utility pole we saw a moment ago?!”
As he finished speaking, Cheng Yu immediately put the video on again. He kept fast-forwarding it until he eventually stopped at a frame in which a hand was taping a photo. The video image looked exactly the same as the photo they had. The only difference was that they could only see the hand holding the photo in the video image, but in the picture they had, the man’s face could be seen distinctly.
“What the hell?! Is our laptop malfunctioning?! But that’s impossible,” Cheng Yu exclaimed, amazed. Having never experienced this kind of oddity before, they had trouble finding a plausible explanation.
“Let’s go back to Cloud World!” Xiao Mang brought Cheng Yu back to Cloud World, along with the laptop.
Cheng Yu had already moved into Cloud World, and from time to time they left the sect to stay in Cheng Yu’s apartment for a getaway, but they stayed in the sect most of the time for fear that the Dark Queen might suddenly show up to do Cheng Yu harm.
After returning to Cloud World, the pair directly went to see Luo Feng, who was in the cultivation chamber. On hearing Xiao Mang’s voice coming through the door, he rose to his feet and answered the door to let them in.
“What is it you guys want to see me about?” Luo Feng inquired, watching as they entered.
“Sect-brother, there’s something I’d like to ask you, something confusing,” Xiao Mang said.
“What is it?” Luo Feng asked.
Cheng Yu produced the photo and said, “Mr. Luo, do you know where this photo is from?”
Looking at the photo he got from the Omniscience Mirror, Luo Feng said, “You know him?”
“No. I was told you guys were all looking for him. Mang and I were trying to help, but what’s weird is that this guy’s not in any of the surveillance videos.” With that, Cheng Yu turned on his laptop and showed Luo Feng the videos they had recorded.
After watching them, Luo Feng lapsed into a ruminative silence.
Were it not for this video, he wouldn’t have found out that that person had been carrying something capable of making him invisible. He had seen the man’s face because he had used the Omniscience Mirror, which, unlike common equipment like a laptop, could see through concealment created by anything.
Anything but the magical artifact carried by the Dark Queen.
Which was why they still had not tracked down the Dark Queen.
Staring at the image on the laptop screen, he said, “It seems this guy’s pretty cautious.”
“Mr. Luo, would you mind telling me where you guys got those pictures? How come you could see that guy’s face?” Cheng Yu asked curiously.
Luo Feng replied, “You don’t need to know that.”
Naturally, he would not tell Cheng Yu that he had seen all that through the Omniscience Mirror.
Having heard his words, Cheng Yu did not dare ask any further questions.
At this moment, Xiao Mang spoke again. “Unless I’m very much mistaken, this guy also showed up in the store of a friend of mine, and he’s invisible to the surveillance camera there as well, but he’s not necessarily wearing an Invisibility Cloak or anything like that, because my friend saw him, though that guy’s wearing a mask and a hat, which kept my friend from seeing his face.”
“A magical object making its bearer invisible to surveillance cameras?” Luo Feng said, his curiosity piqued.
“In addition, he went to my friend to have him run an authentication test on a spiritual stone, but my friend told me the stone contained Dark energy, that it’s not from the Realm but from the demon world!”
“Are you sure?!” Luo Feng was astonished.
Xiao Mang nodded. “Which is why I have a sneaking suspicion that the guy who replaced those photos was the same person who visited my friend’s store.”
Luo Feng, after a silence, said goodbye to Xiao Mang and Cheng Yu. He left the sect alone and returned to the cave where the Omniscience Mirror was, intending to find that person with the help of the mirror.
He had thought that it would be very easy to locate that person, but now it seemed that that person was no common cultivator, and he was quite circumspect too. He probably had blended into the woodwork after replacing the photos.
Now he had to verify if the man who had visited the antique store of Xiao Mang’s friend was the same person who had replaced those wanted posters. If he was, then things would get a little complicated.
However, after watching the video footage displayed on the Omniscience Mirror, Luo Feng was convinced that the visitor in the antique store had been the same person who had had those photos plastered.
Next, he made an attempt to locate that person, utilizing the powers of the Omniscience Mirror. Before long, he found that eccentric young man, who, surprisingly, had left the Realm of Cultivation and was now checking into a small hotel in Mount Wu, seemingly intending to stay there.
Luo Feng rewound the video to confirm something before he left the cave, returned to the sect, summoned Luo Qian and Yuan Ge and brought them out of the Realm, heading for Mount Wu with the intention to find that man.
When they had reached Mount Wu, Luo Qian asked, “Why Mount Wu, Master Feng?”
They had been away from Mount Wu for months, and if truth be told, it was when revisiting this place that Luo Qian came to find out that the spiritual energy in Mount Wu was so meager it could not hold a candle to the Realm.
Back at the time when in the capital, he had always pictured Mount Wu as a wonderland, and had frequently found himself wondering longingly if some day he would get a chance to pay a visit to Mount Wu, which was something he would trade anything for.
And now, looking back on those days, he felt amused. He had long since seen Mount Wu and explored the Realm of Cultivation, but Luo Qian found that he was still unsatisfied. He kept having this feeling that there was definitely more wondrous places beyond the Realm.
“We’re here to look for someone. The guy I want you to find is in a hotel named Sweet Dream Hotel in Mount Wu,” Luo Feng said.
“Sweet Dream Hotel? I heard that place is very cheap, and it’s the only hotel you can pay with cash. The room rate is a mere fifty bucks per night. Is that guy really that poor? I can’t believe he’s staying in a fleabag like that,” Luo Qian said.
“Just find him.” Luo Feng was not at all bothered by the fact that the man was staying in a flophouse. Having conducted a background check on that person with the Omniscience Mirror, he knew that the man was from an impoverished family and had always been thrifty.
Considering his living standards, staying in a hotel like that was actually a luxury for him.
Next, the three of them walked towards Sweet Dream Hotel together.
At this moment, Mu Yun was also in Mount Wu. He was staying in his own place, Tianmu Villa.
The villa was very quiet. It was deserted but for him, the butler and a couple of servants. Back at the time when they had all been living in this place, Tianmu Villa had been quite lively, with joyous voices and laughter even at night.
Mu Yun was now lying in the hammock made by Liao Ziyun and the others between two trees, gazing leisurely into the starry night sky.
It was because of the strange memories which had flooded into his mind without warning that he had decided to come here for a getaway. According to those newly gained memories of his, there seemed to be a time when he had been on very bad terms with Luo Feng and fought him on a frequent basis, but he could not recall the reason for any of those fights, no matter how hard he tried. Those memories were merely a couple of fragments.
However, these memory fragments inexplicably gave him a foul mood. He felt so awful as though someone had snatched something from him.
Therefore, he had come out to distract himself, lest his mood affect his relations with people he cared about.
At this moment, the butler’s voice came from beside him. “Master Yun, someone intruded into our Matrix down there. Would you like to go and take a look?”
“An intruder?” Mu Yun jumped off the hammock. “I’ll go check. I have nothing else to do, anyway.”
He hastened downhill and reached the concealment Matrix which he had deployed at the foot of the hill. As expected, he saw a man wandering around aimlessly at the entrance to the villa.
Mu Yun walked into the Matrix up to the man and asked, “What are you doing on my turf?”
On hearing his voice, the man wheeled around to look at him, but at the sight of Mu Yun, a delighted grin unfurled on the man’s face as he exclaimed, “There you are, my savior!”
Looking surprisedly at the young man before him who seemed to be of an age with him, Mu Yun asked, “Do we … know each other?”
“You don’t remember me, but I’ll never forget you, my savior!” the man said excitedly.
“Who are you?” Mu Yun inquired, curious.
“I’m Su Fan!” The man hastily identified himself.
“Why are you calling me your savior? I don’t remember helping you,” Mu Yun said, looking at Su Fan.
“It was four years ago that you saved me. It’s only natural you don’t remember it after such a long time,” Su Fan smiled. With that he pulled a pancake from his pocket and added, “I got you this, my savior! I made it in the hotel room only a short while ago. It’s very fresh.”
Mu Yun, ” … ” This was his first time being presented with a pancake at his first meeting with someone.
He tossed a glance at the pancake. There was nothing suspicious about it. It was just a common pancake, and a steaming one too.
Having noticed the happy anticipation in Su Fan’s eyes, Mu Yun took the still warm pancake and said, “Thanks.”
“Give it a shot, my savior. You won’t be disappointed!” Su Fan urged.
To be polite, Mu Yun took a bite, but remarkably, the first bite gave him a good appetite and he quickly gobbled the pancake down.
“Emmm … yummy! It’s the best pancake I’ve ever had!” Mu Yun said, contentment etched in every line of his face.
Smiling delightedly, Su Fan scratched his head and said, “That day, you told me every trade has its master, that even a pancake vendor could distinguish themself! You also said you’d taste my pancake again to see if I made any progress when you got the chance! Now it seems my skills have improved, seeing as how you didn’t pay me such a compliment when you first ate my pancake!”
Chewing the pancake in his mouth, Mu Yun searched the memory of the original owner of this body. Surprisingly, there was indeed a recollection of that matter in there.
