Loving the Most Handsome Man in the Capital Novel - Chapter 351
351. A Bounty on the Dark Queen and … Xiao Zhiyuan?
Translator: Storm in a Teacup
After hearing the old man’s question, Luo Feng shook his head. “I don’t know. He didn’t say.”
“Then you need to figure out a way to get in touch with him. It strikes me that the Dark Queen is behind this. She’s probably come to know that Yun is the leader of Cloud World. She deliberately disclosed it because she wanted him in the cross hairs of the whole Realm. The re-emergence of the Warm Cloud Jade has made it less difficult to locate the main sect. And if anybody else gets the Jade and finds the main sect, taking over Cloud World would be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel!” the old man cautioned.
“I’ll take care of it,” Luo Feng said blandly.
The old man wanted to say something else, but having perceived that Luo Feng was somewhat lukewarm, he pivoted around after a thoughtful pause and walked off without another word.
When the old man was gone, Luo Feng left Cloud World as well. Clothed entirely in black, he materialized in a street. As his eyes fell on the many wanted posters bearing Mu Yun’s pictures, the frost in the depths of his eyes deepened.
He looked silently at those posters for a few moments, then walked up to the one taped on the nearest utility pole and pressed his palm against it. When he removed his hand from it, Mu Yun’s face in the picture had become that of a woman, and the words had been replaced by “WANTED! The Dark Queen! Heavy Bounty for Information Leading to Her Arrest!”
With that, one by one, he did the same thing to many other posters, replacing Mu Yun’s pictures with the Dark Queen’s.
When looking for more wanted posters, he suddenly spotted a very strange picture. Confused, Luo Feng walked up to it and, staring at the old man’s face in the picture, wondered, ‘Isn’t this guy Xiao Zhiyuan?’
Then he noticed the words on it: WANTED! A Pancake Snatcher! Heavy Bounty for Information Leading to His Arrest!
What the hell?!
Xiao Zhiyuan? A pancake snatcher? Surely it wasn’t a pancake made of flour as he perceived it to be?
The background color of this picture was uncannily similar to that of Mu Yun’s pictures on those wanted posters …
Bemused, Luo Feng checked another couple of wanted posters and found that all of them were about the pancake snatcher as the first one was.
Who was it that had been so bold as to put up photos of Xiao Zhiyuan, the patriarch of the Xiao family, in public places? Were they not afraid of reprisal? Everybody knew how powerful the Xiao family was in Wang City.
All the wanted posters that Luo Feng saw subsequently bore Xiao Zhiyuan’s pictures, which faintly amused him.
He had walked once around Wang City and was planning to return to Cloud World when something suddenly occurred to him.
Didn’t they say that Mu Yun’s pictures were all over the streets? How come he had not seen a single one of them afterward?!
As this thought crossed his mind, Luo Feng once again looked at the picture of the pancake snatcher a short way away and took a wild guess – had someone tampered with the wanted posters as he had, by any chance?
A hint of uncertainty flashed across Luo Feng’s eyes as this suspicion popped into his mind. He vanished into thin air, reappearing a second later on a hill, entered a cave and began to stride forward. After a few moments, Luo Feng came to a halt in front of a mirror.
The mirror was called Omniscience Mirror. It was capable of displaying anything that the user wanted to know about anybody.
He ran his hand across the surface of the mirror and with that a faint glow emanated from it. As the glow faded away, video images of a busy street emerged on the mirror. Luo Feng fixed it with an unblinking stare and, after quite a while, finally spotted a man. Holding a ward of photos in one hand, the man tore all Mu Yun’s pictures from the wall and replaced them with Xiao Zhiyuan’s.
Watching this scene, Luo Feng was a trifle astonished.
Although the man had not magically replaced the pictures as he had, his method had generated the same results. All the pictures had now been substituted.
Who was that young man? Why had he replaced Mu Yun’s pictures with Xiao Zhiyuan’s? Why was he helping Mu Yun? And he had specially made that many copies of Mu Yun’s pictures.
Luo Feng gazed fixedly at the young man on the screen. He had no recollection whatsoever of anybody he had made the acquaintance of during the past ten millenniums, who resembled this young man. Or maybe this guy was one of his acquaintances who had been reincarnated?
He stood before the Omniscience Mirror for almost another half an hour, watching. It was after the young man had put up all the pictures he carried that Luo Feng left the cave. He instantly disappeared from the hill and returned to Cloud World, where he summoned Yuan Ge and all the others.
Wu Wei and the others had all come to know about the wanted posters out there and were all deeply concerned. At this moment, standing in the room, all of them appeared rather grave, their usual devil-may-care air gone.
They were all looking at Luo Feng, waiting for Luo Feng to speak.
Luo Feng fished out a picture and said to them, “I want this guy found.”
“Who is he?” Yuan Ge was curious.
“I don’t know either, but this guy replaced all Mu Yun’s pictures in the city with someone else’s. I suspect he might be one of our acquaintances. I want you guys to find him and bring him to me,” Luo Feng said.
“He replaced all Master’s pictures?” The others were all amazed. They did not dare believe that someone had done what they were planning to do.
“Yeah. He replaced them with copies of this one.” Luo Feng showed them a picture on his cellphone.
Liao Ziyun, at the sight of the picture and the words on it, dissolved into laughter. “Who’s that fella? He’s such a funny guy! A pancake snatcher? Please don’t tell me it’s literally a pancake made of flour.”
“He’s not funny. He’s spunky! We all know who Xiao Zhiyuan is. At least he’s the one calling the shots in an influential family in Wang City. Cross him and you’re as good as dead! But this guy put up the old man’s pictures in public places in broad daylight and even placed a bounty on him. He’s got a lot of balls!” Wu Wei remarked, amused.
“Which is why we need to find him. Though there’s no telling if he’s a friend or an enemy, what he did with those wanted posters alone was enough to oblige us to ensure his safety. We must not let him fall into the hands of Xiao Zhiyuan,” Luo Feng said.
“Yes, Sect-brother. We’ll be leaving shortly!” Gu Miaomiao said.
Luo Feng nodded and gave them each a picture to help with their search for the young man.
Luo Feng himself also set off to look for that man. Since that person had offered Mu Yun help, he felt obliged to protect him as a token of his gratitude.
Xiao Mang walked out of a coffee shop where he had just enjoyed a cup of coffee with Cheng Yu and was just about to set off to return when he received a phone call. On hearing the voice from the other end of the phone, Xiao Mang was amused. “Will wonders never cease? I can’t believe a notorious miser like you is giving me a phone call, Zhu Wei.”
Cheng Yu, on hearing Zhu Wei’s name, shifted his gaze to Xiao Mang. He pointed at the latter’s cellphone and then at himself, signaling Xiao Mang to give his cellphone to him.
But Xiao Mang took no notice of him, continuing chatting with Zhu Wei. A few moments later, he asked with a frown, “Are you sure? Someone brought a spiritual stone from the demon world to you and requested you to run an authentication test on it?
Do your best to stall that guy. I’ll be there right away!”
With that Xiao Mang hung up and said to Cheng Yu, “A guy brought a spiritual stone from the demon world to him to be authenticated. I can’t believe someone has taken a spiritual stone from the demon world to the Realm of Cultivation for authentication test. I suspect it has something to do with my grandmother, but I need to go there to take a look before I could say for sure.”
“Then let’s get going!” Cheng Yu urged.
The pair drove to an antique store. After parking the car, they hastened inside only to see a tall young man walking towards them, appearing rather sullen. It was a long moment before the man said, “That guy’s soft in the head.”
“Ah? What happened?” Cheng Yu asked, walking up to him. This was his first time seeing Zhu Wei the miser looking so frustrated.
What was going on?
Zhu Wei took in a large gulp of air, but after giving it some thought, he decided to let it go. He said, “Forget it. There’s not much to say. Anyway, that guy’s not in his right mind.”
Cheng Yu and Xiao Mang exchanged an uncertain glance, and then the latter asked, “So you failed to stall him?”
“Why would I stall a psycho?! I just glanced at the pancake in his hand and he accused me of wanting to snatch it! He also said that he’d put up pictures everywhere of the last guy who’d tried to snatch his pancake and placed a bounty on him! Who the fuck would eat that kind of stuff?! Even if someone did snatch his pancake, is it really necessary to place a bounty on them for that? What else would you call a guy like that, if not a psychopath?!” Zhu Wei had originally decided to let it go, but he failed to forbear from telling them the whole story from soup to nuts.
So it was all about a pancake?
Cheng Yu and Xiao Mang were both bewildered and amazed. If Zhu Wei’s story was true, then that person was indeed a little … unconventional.
“What about the spiritual stone? Is it really from the demon world?” This was what concerned Xiao Mang. As for that man’s mental state, he did not give a damn about it!
At the mention of the spiritual stone, Zhu Wei’s face softened somewhat. He replied, “That stone is indeed from the demon world. The Dark energy in it is uncommonly strong, which means its original owner is no common person, because no ordinary people could own dark powers like that.”
On hearing this, Xiao Mang came to know that his speculation proved right. There was a very high chance that the spiritual stone carried by that man belonged to his grandmother!
The problem was, how had that guy got a spiritual stone from his grandmother? Had his grandmother had dealings with that guy?
It seemed that he would have to find that person first before he could get an answer.
“Can you pull the video off the surveillance camera in your store? I want to see what that guy looks like,” Xiao Mang said.
“No problem. I’ll get it for you right now.” Zhu Wei sincerely hoped that Xiao Mang would successfully track down that man, so that he would get a chance to dissect that psycho’s brain and see if he could find out how it worked exactly!
However, when watching the surveillance video, they noticed something weird. The video showed that there had never been anybody standing before Zhu Wei, but they could see Zhu Wei take the spiritual stone.
The three of them were astonished. Zhu Wei said, “What the hell? Why are we not seeing that psycho?”
“Clearly that guy was concealing his body with something. He’s trying to hide his tracks?” Cheng Yu was confused. If that man was trying to hide his tracks, did that mean he was very likely the Dark Queen’s minion?
“But that guy had a mask over his mouth and nose from start to finish, and he was wearing a peaked cap too, so I don’t know what he looks like either,” Zhu Wei told them.
It would seem finding that person was impossible. How were they supposed to track him down when he was invisible to even surveillance cameras?
“How was he supposed to eat his pancake when wearing a mask?” Xiao Mang suddenly asked.
Zhu Wei was momentarily surprised, thinking back to the meeting between them. It seemed that the man had indeed never taken a single bite of the pancake.
“Do you know how many spiritual stones he’s carrying with him?” was Xiao Mang’s next question.
“He only showed me one. I don’t know if he had more.” Zhu Wei shook his head.
They had no clue whatsoever. Xiao Mang, who was also quite resigned, said to Zhu Wei, “If he shows up again, remember to stall him until I arrive, by hook or by crook.”
“Well, I can’t make any promises. That guy’s a bit … abnormal.” Zhu Wei only said he would try.
Xiao Mang thanked him and then left with Cheng Yu.
On their way back, the two of them chanced upon Gu Miaomiao and Liao Ziyun. Gu Miaomiao gave Xiao Mang a dirty look at the sight of him. Liao Ziyun, however, politely gave him a nod of acknowledgement.
Cheng Yu asked, “You guys know each other?”
“If possible, I would’ve chosen not to make his acquaintance.” Gu Miaomiao’s tone was heavy with enmity.
They were unaware that Xiao Mang had joined hands with Mu Yun and Luo Feng, which was why they were still very hostile towards him.
After hearing her words, Cheng Yu involuntarily tossed Xiao Mang a glance, but Xiao Mang appeared quite indifferent, so he did not ask about it.
At this moment, Liao Ziyun fished out a picture and, handing it to Cheng Yu and Xiao Mang, said, “Have you ever seen this guy? We have orders from our elder sect-brother to find him.”
“Who is he?” Xiao Mang asked, looking at the photograph.
Liao Ziyun shook her head. “We have no idea, which is why we’re looking for him. A son of a bitch had photos of our master plastered all over the city and put a bounty on him, but this stranger replaced all those photos with pictures of someone else.”
Having finished speaking, Liao Ziyun paused, raised her head to look in the direction of a picture glued to a wall not far away and then shifted her gaze back to Xiao Mang, her eyes roving around.
Ha, that old man was Xiao Mang’s grandfather, wasn’t he? If she asked Xiao Mang to help find the good Samaritan, it would be tantamount to ratting the latter out, wouldn’t it? Wouldn’t she be repaying kindness with ingratitude if she did that?
Xiao Mang was also aware of the matter of the pictures, and he had torn off every one of those that he had caught sight of. It had never occurred to him that some weirdo had not only removed those pictures but also replaced them.
Why hadn’t he thought of that?
After another glance at the man in the picture, he said, “I’ll be keeping an eye out for him, and I’ll tell you if I spot him.”
“Well, thanks,” said Liao Ziyun before walking off with Gu Miaomiao.
Xiao Mang searched around and eventually saw a photo taped on a utility pole. “Let’s go and find out with whose pictures did that guy replace Mu Yun’s.”
Cheng Yu’s curiosity was also piqued, so he went with Xiao Mang, but at the sight of the picture on the utility pole, they were both stunned.
Th–This was his grandfather’s photo! Who was that daredevil?!
If he found that guy, he would definitely call him – a hero!
