Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 90
Chapter 90 The ghost’s background
How could that do?
Cheng Xiaoxiao contemplated swiftly.
She had gone out all day without leaving a word for Wan Xia. Wan Xia was probably worried sick looking for her.
It wasn’t Cheng Xiaoxiao’s style to make her friends worry!
She had to find the chance to sneak out.
She moved towards the window as she mulled.
Chu Yunshen turned to see the cat running swiftly to the window and attempting to jump. He angrily laughed as he scooped her into his arms.
Oh no! He caught her trying to run! She failed to escape!
She had to try again.
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao was caught red-handed, she obediently let him bathe her.
Wan Xia certainly read her mind.
Even though she was unable to look for Wan Xia, Wan Xia came over to tell Chu Yunshen she had lost the cat.
Chu Yunshen was changing Cheng Xiaoxiao’s clothes when Xiaowu came in to tell Chu Yunshen about it.
“Tell her to leave!” Chu Yunshen turned Xiaowu down swiftly without pausing his hands.
……
Chu Yunshen clearly had a lot of patience with that cat, but he blatantly used double standards!
Xiaowu felt speechless about Chu Yunshen’s differential treatment. He could only apologize to Wan Xia as she stood in the yard.
Wan Xia headed back to her quarters without trying to insist on seeing him.
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s obedience only lasted as long as her bath.
She headed to the kitchen to steal a lot of chicken drumsticks and jerky while Chu Yunshen was bathing.
She deftly wrapped them in a piece of cloth before stuffing them under her garments and headed back to share the food with the ghost.
Now that she had food, he might be more prepared to talk.
Doudou gave in and changed his mind about telling Cheng Xiaoxiao about his family after she kept catering to him.
Although Doudou didn’t come from a well-to-do family, his parents treated him well.
Doudou’s father hunted and chopped firewood for a living. His mother stayed home to farm. She would carry Doudou and made soles or do simple embroidery when she was free to help make more income.
They led a simple and blissful life until his father encountered a bear while he was hunting in the mountains.
No one had ever survived the bear’s attacks.
However, perhaps Doudou’s father got lucky.
He ran like crazy and ended up saved by a woodcutter and managed to escape death.
Sadly, his leg was broken in the process.
Doudou’s mother was unable to make a living for a family on her own.
The three of them struggled to eke out a living for an entire month. During this time, Doudou’s mother powerlessly watched as her son lost weight gradually.
Fortunately, someone in the village told her about a great opportunity.
A rich man in town was unable to bear a son. Recently, his health started to decline, so he wanted his wife to find a boy from a slave trader to carry on his ancestral line.
Doudou shivered as he spoke.
Cheng Xiaoxiao had an inkling how the rest of the story would play out when she noticed the look of agony on Doudou’s face and his reluctance to think about this.
Doudou choked as he smelled the delicious food on the table before he was able to go on with his story.
As expected, Doudou’s mother placed Doudou at the rich man’s doorstep on a snowy night.
She thought Doudou would end up enjoying a good life from now on. However, the rich man’s wife shockingly got pregnant before long.
Doudou undoubtedly lost his use.
The rich man’s wife was from the Zhao family and was imperial consort Zhao’s distant relative.
It so happened that imperial consort Zhao was going around looking for children to raise as a little demon.
Boys like him with an unknown background were perfect for her.
He ended up getting sent to her.
Doudou’s poor parents didn’t survive the cold winter.
Till the moment they died of hunger and cold in their spartan house, Doudou’s mother thought her son was leading an extravagant life.
Doudou’s story ended with that. “I know Mom had no choice but to send me away. Otherwise, we would all die of hunger. However, I simply can’t forgive her…”
Although his voice became increasingly soft, Cheng Xiaoxiao knew what he meant.
She could empathize with Doudou’s complicated emotions and how powerless his mother felt.
Doudou was only three years old when it happened. Cheng Xiaoxiao felt sorry for Doudou thinking about his life.
She parted her lips and wanted to speak but didn’t know what to say.
Instead, she pushed all the food towards Doudou as though it could help make up for the poor boy’s tragic life.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was woken up by Doudou’s shouting the next day.
“What’s with this racket?” asked Cheng Xiaoxiao angrily. She felt annoyed by this disturbance.
“Are you a cat demon or a pig demon? Why do you sleep so much?” Doudou floated over to Cheng Xiaoxiao in disdain.
The lovely dream Cheng Xiaoxiao was having disappeared instantly, and she even felt a headache coming on.
“Stop floating around! You’re making me giddy.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao climbed out of bed swiftly and looked around to see where Chu Yunshen was.
“Stop looking! He went out first thing in the morning. Do you think everyone is as idle as you?” Doudou spoke in a knowing tone as he sat on the roof beam and crossed his legs as he swayed them around.
“Humph! Who says I’m looking for Chu Yunshen? I’m just checking to see if there is anyone around so that we can sneak out for a bite,” denied Cheng Xiaoxiao promptly. “Keep up! Let’s go have some fun.”
“You are such a liar,” muttered Doudou as he floated behind Cheng Xiaoxiao.
First, they stole buns for the stray dogs before they carefully dodged the guards.
Everything went remarkably smoothly now that Chu Hongyi was out of the way.
Cheng Xiaoxiao brought Doudou to the dog hole. However, the stray dogs were nowhere in sight, so she split the buns with Doudou.
Cheng Xiaoxiao snuck into the kitchen at a restaurant. It was bustling with activity when they entered.
“What are you standing around for? Get cracking! Mr Liu is holding a banquet for Sir Song from the ministry of revenue, so stay sharp! Send the dishes quickly!”
A fat man stood in the kitchen and scolded everyone.
Cheng Xiaoxiao whispered to Doudou, “Let’s go! It’s a bad place to make our move since it’s full of people.”
Doudou asked quizzically, “Aren’t we going to have some nice food?”
“Certainly! That goes without saying!” Cheng Xiaoxiao acted like a boss. “But we aren’t going to eat in the kitchen. Haven’t you heard? Since there’s a banquet, we have to join in the fun!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao followed behind the waiter and headed to the private room on the second floor.
There was a small gap at the door, so Cheng Xiaoxiao quickly darted in and hid behind the screen.
She heard a young man asking casually, “Hu, you received orders to become the leader of the rich merchants in the area. How’s that going for you?”
An ingratiating voice replied hurriedly, “Sir Su, don’t worry. Everything is ready. I won’t let’ the eighth prince down…”
“Hmm?”
The young man dragged out his last syllable sounded angry.
“I’m so sorry for accidentally saying the boss’ name!” Hu proceeded to slap his face several times.
Just listening to the crisp slapping sound made Cheng Xiaoxiao cringe.
Judging from their conversation, the flashy eighth prince was up to no good again. She wondered what trouble he was going to cause this time.
Cheng Xiaoxiao decided to hang around and listen to more of their conversation. She hid and craned her neck out in an attempt to see the men’s faces.
However, there were vases on both sides of the screen that blocked off her view altogether.
She had no choice but to drop her plans to peep. Instead, she continued eavesdropping.
Hu reported cautiously, “The salt prices in the area have been changed. Everything ought to be in our control now. No evidence was left behind, so don’t worry, Sir Su.”
“That’s not what our boss wants. He wants everything to go 100 % smoothly.” The young man sounded firm and powerful.
“Yes, Sir Su! I’ll be extra careful. I won’t disappoint you both!” The ingratiating voice laughed as he said, “Sir Su, thanks for coming by. It’s my honor that you were sent to inspect my work. Allow me to offer you a toast!”
“That can wait. What about you two? I told you to report daily. Why did you stop writing to me recently?” Sir Su’s voice sounded interrogative. “If I didn’t seek you out today, how much longer did you plan on keeping this up? Don’t you know how serious this matter is? Or am I too unimportant for you?”
“That’s not true!” Two voices explained anxiously. They were worried that Su Ming might get angry with them if they didn’t reply promptly. “Ever since you gave the orders, we have been doing our utmost. We haven’t slacked off for a moment…”
A slighter older voice replied meekly, “The Jin City county magistrate assistant keeps saying he wants to head to the capital and lodge a complaint against you. We were worried that we might get exposed, so we could only keep a low profile. I think it would be best if we lie low for now…”
“Just ignore him! He’s just a tiny county magistrate assistant, so he’s incapable of causing any trouble!” interrupted Su Ming promptly, “You just need to help Hu! As for the other stuff, the boss will take care of them.”
“Yes, Sir!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao heard the sound of wine glasses clinking, and then she saw her jade pendant glowing green.
There were ghosts here! Quite a lot of them, no less.
It seemed they were all bad people.
“Hear my order, jade pendant, and open my eyes!”
Sexy ghosts surrounded the rich merchant!
“Do you ghosts have any unfinished business?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt like a hero and glowed like a savior.
“Who’s there?”
The sexy ghosts were touching the rich merchant wantonly when they suddenly heard someone talking about reincarnation and halted.
“Who’s messing around? Show yourself!” said the ghost, who seemed like the leader of the lot.
“Haven’t you heard of Granny Cat Demon before? Come over to the screen this instant to see me!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s eyes hurt when she saw the sexy ghosts’ provocative clothes.
However, she continued speaking pretentiously.
“Are you really Granny Cat Demon?” The sexy ghosts floated over swiftly and encircled Cheng Xiaoxiao.
“Who else has magical powers like me?” Cheng Xiaoxiao confidently let the ghosts scrutinize her. “Once you are done staring, tell me what you want! Since you haven’t gone for reincarnation, I’m sure there’s something you want.”
