Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 82
Chapter 82 Storytime and hide and seek
Chu Hongyi paused and raised his brow at Cheng Xiaoxiao and said suspensefully, “Guess what happened?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at Chu Hongyi as he played with the furball and turned her head away.
She hated it when people kept her in suspense. If he didn’t feel like telling her, then don’t tell her the story!
“Haha! Fine. I’ll tell you what happened!” Chu Hongyi held his belly as he laughed and said, “Brother Yunshen took a baby bird from a bird’s nest to make me stop crying. In the end… Haha!”
Chu Hongyi laughed as he touched Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head and continued, “Before I took the bird from him, the bird’s mommy came back and pecked Brother Yunshen badly and left injuries all over his head!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at Chu Hongyi, so he hurriedly removed his hand from her head and continued, “Maybe I cried too loudly, so a eunuch found us. Brother Yunshen wiped the blood from his face as he consoled me not to cry and promised me it didn’t hurt! Brother Yunshen only bawled when Consort Shen turned up.”
Chu Hongyi couldn’t restrain himself and burst out laughing.
Cheng Xiaoxiao turned to look at Chu Hongyi. She discovered a light in Chu Hongyi’s eyes when he talked about his childhood with Chu Yunshen. It was a look of nostalgia and longing.
He clenched the furball tightly as he spoke animatedly and laughed until he cried when he told her about all the mischief and dumb things they did.
But Cheng Xiaoxiao could still sense some sadness in his tears.
Cheng Xiaoxiao could clearly sense how much Chu Hongyi adored Chu Yunshen.
Chu Yunshen wasn’t as cold to Chu Hongyi as he seemed. He still treated Chu Hongyi somewhat differently.
Chu Hongyi could hang out at the residence safely uninvited.
If any other princes came by uninvited, they would probably get surrounded by the guards with swords to their throats the moment they came over the wall.
The sound of hurried footsteps came from outside the rockery. Who was it?
Cheng Xiaoxiao pricked her ears hastily with her fur exploding.
She reached her head out towards the source of the sound. A soft anxious female voice came from outside.
“Yue, have you found her? What about over there?”
Wasn’t this Wan Xia’s voice?
Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly shrank her head back before she crouched and backed up.
Although Chu Hongyi didn’t know why the white cat suddenly came so close to him, he said happily, “What’s up? Do you want to play with the furball?”
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her paw to her lips and meowed at Chu Hongyi softly.
“What do you mean?” Chu Hongyi’s frown smoothened out. His mood instantly lifted when Cheng Xiaoxiao’s peculiar actions tickled him.
Why didn’t he understand what she was driving at?
She wanted him to shut up!
Cheng Xiaoxiao could hear footsteps coming closer and almost reaching the rockery. Chu Hongyi was still holding the furball and swaying it before her as he tried to get her to play.
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at him. She swiftly pounced onto his head and covered his mouth with her belly.
Chu Hongyi moaned in shock. The furball fell from his hand and rolled into a hole by the rockery.
He tightened his grip on the white cat but didn’t want to hurt her.
At this very moment, Chu Hongyi heard a maid’s voice coming from outside.
“Did you hear a cat’s meow, Miss? Also, I thought I heard a man talking,” said Yue as she turned her head and told Wan Xia behind her.
Wan Xia wiped the sweat from her forehead with a handkerchief as she shook her head gently and said, “I didn’t hear anything. Are you mistaken?”
Yue touched her head and replied calmly, “Maybe I heard wrongly.”
Then again, all the servants ought to be busy working at this hour. How could anyone dare to skive here?
“Yue, do you think the cat is hiding inside the rockery?” Wan Xia looked around and pointed to it rockery behind her and turned to tell Yue, who was checking the flower beds, “Can you come over and check?”
“Yes, Miss!” Yue immediately put down her pole and patted her hands before she headed to the rockery.
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s fur exploded.
She wasn’t worried about getting caught by Wan Xia. Instead, she felt a little guilty and felt bad.
She intended on going out to eat buns, come home and act as though she never once left.
But she bumped into Chu Hongyi and forgot about everything when he pissed her off.
She was distracted when Chu Hongyi started telling her his childhood stories with Chu Yunshen and forgot about the time.
She only recalled that she forgot about heading back to Yulan quarters when she heard Wan Xia’s voice.
“Ah!”
A sharp cry of a woman could be heard along with the sound of rocks tumbling.
What happened?
Cheng Xiaoxiao swiftly let go of Chu Hongyi and jumped onto the rockery. She crouched before she reached her head out a little to steal a look.
Chu Hongyi was aware that people were outside the rockery too. He pulled his robes aside and bent over with his hands on the ground as he looked down from the rockery half-prone.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was startled by his form. When she realized it was Chu Hongyi, she placed her paw by her mouth and gestured for him to stay quiet.
Chu Hongyi placed his index finger on his lips and nodded to her.
Then Cheng Xiaoxiao finally looked down the rockery.
Yue was sitting on the ground in the rockery nearby as she held her foot and moaned softly, “Ouch!”
“Yue, are you okay?
Wan Xia walked into the rockery after she heard the noise. She immediately helped Yue up when she saw Yue sitting on the ground. “What happened?”
“Ow! My foot hurts!” Yue held onto Wan Xia with one of her feet on tiptoe as she pointed at the rockery and said, “I didn’t find her below, so I wanted to go up and check.”
A piercing pain came from her foot, and she inhaled before she continued, “But I tripped half-way! I think I sprained my foot.”
“Sit down. Let me take a look.” Wan Xia instantly helped Yue to sit down before she squatted next to Yue to take off her shoes.
“Miss!”
Yue instantly wanted to pull her leg back, but Wan Xia pulled it back and said softly, “Don’t move. I used to sprain my ankles when I practice dancing.”
“Miss, you can’t do that?” Yue went pale as she pulled her foot back as she spoke, “You are my mistress, so I can’t let you do that!”
“Why not? In reality, I’m no different than a servant in the residence,” said Wan Xia as she twisted Yue’s foot while she was in shock.
CRACK!
“AH!” Yue hastily yelled.
Wan Xia stood up and looked at Yue with her dark bright eyes. “Yue, does it still hurt?”
She covered her mouth with her handkerchief and smiled gently.
“Hmm?” Yue calmed down when she heard what Wan Xia said. She moved her ankle gently before rotating it fully. She discovered that the sharp pain was clearly gone.
“Does it still hurt?” Wan Xia raised her brow at Yue.
Yue stood up and took two steps before she said, “Miss, you’re amazing! My ankle surprisingly doesn’t hurt anymore.”
Wan Xia went up to help Yue as she attempted to jump. “Your ankle just recovered, so don’t over-exert yourself. Otherwise, you might sprain it again.”
“Uh huh.” Yue nodded repeatedly.
After this incident, Wan Xia gained Yue’s respect as her mistress and admiration and gratitude.
She felt fortunate that she was assigned to serve Wan Xia.
She had never encountered anyone as kind as Wan Xia. Even though Wan Xia was her mistress, she treated a mere maid so well! Also, Wan Xia had no airs at all.
Hence, she swore to be loyal to Wan Xia!
Considering Wan Xia’s kind personality, she was bound to get bullied by those other women in Yulan quarters!
But if anyone dared to bully Wan Xia from now on, she would protect Wan Xia with her life just like Qin.
Wan Xia’s tiny gesture had won the maid’s loyalty and her promise to protect her with her life.
“Let’s go. I don’t think the cat is here. Let’s check elsewhere.”
Wan Xia glanced around the rockery. There was nothing in sight except rocks here.
Wan Xia heard about how playful the cat was and reckoned she wouldn’t be interested in the rockery.
“Yes, Miss!” Yue nodded as she looked around the rockery. “I checked everywhere except on top of the rockery.”
“Okay. Let’s check the kitchen instead.”
Wan Xia turned to tell the maid, “I heard the servants say she likes to play in the kitchen.”
“You can hardly call it playing. It’s more like making trouble for the kitchen. Haha!”
Yue recalled how the kitchen supervisor would open her eyes wide and stand with her hands on her hips when anyone brought up the cat. She felt the kitchen supervisor could spend an entire day listing her wrongdoings.
“Make trouble?” asked Wan Xia quizzically.
“Miss, you only recently joined the residence, so you have no idea…”
Cheng Xiaoxiao lay on top of the rockery as she looked at Wan Xia, and Yue slowly disappear into the distance.
She could still hear Yue telling Wan Xia about all the deeds she committed in the kitchen in the past.
“Little fellow, what’s with this expression?” Chu Hongyi looked at the white cat as she lay prone next to him on the rockery.
Her contrasting eyes were narrowed as her eyelashes and whiskers twitched and seemed angry.
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at him before jumping off the rockery and heading for Yulan quarters.
“Hey, little fellow!” Chu Hongyi hurriedly jumped off the rockery. He bent over to pick up the furball and chased after Cheng Xiaoxiao immediately.
Cheng Xiaoxiao could hear Chu Hongyi’s voice as he chased anxiously. Chu Hongyi was simply annoying. Why did he keep following her?
“AHHH!”
Chu Hongyi suddenly shouted shrilly. Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly halted her steps and turned to look at Chu Hongyi. What happened?
“Meow!”
What was Chu Hongyi doing?
What was he doing undressing at Hanze Lake in broad daylight?
Was he planning on swimming?
Was he mad?
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised her paws to cover her eyes as she meowed at Chu Hongyi.
