Chapter 81 Let Wan Xia take care of the cat
Didn’t Prince Jing hate it when the cat showed a favorable opinion towards anyone but him?
So why would he get Wan Xia to take care of her now?
“Sir, I have something to take care of, so I’ll be on my way,” said Butler Liu as he bowed to Xiaowu.
Wan Xia immediately bowed before she replied gently, “Uh huh.”
Xiaowu waved at them before walking up the steps to the door. He gently knocked twice and said, “Master!”
“Come in.” Chu Yunshen’s cold voice came from inside the room.
Xiaowu walked in immediately.
However, he could detect how cold it felt in the room.
The prince seemed displeased as he sat behind the desk. Also, the cat in his arms looked unhappy.
Did something happen while he was gone?
Also, Butler Liu just said His Highness wanted Wan Xia to help look after the cat. In theory, shouldn’t the cat be happy?
However, judging from the way she looked now, she seemed a little angry and sad.
Could cats feel sad?
The atmosphere was so quiet that it felt scary.
Xiaowu stood for a long time without hearing a word from Prince Jing, so he scratched his head as he made small talk. “Master, are you planning to get Wan Xia to take care of the little fellow?”
Xiaowu spoke as he walked over. He lowered his body and went close to Chu Yunshen’s ear and said softly, “After all, Wan Xia was sent by Prince Qing, wouldn’t it be dangerous to let her take care of the little fellow…”
Chu Yunshen leaned into his seat as he looked at Cheng Xiaoxiao and pursed his lips into a smile. “She isn’t capable of stirring any trouble.”
“If you really need someone to take care of the cat, there are plenty of other women in Yulan quarters.”
Xiaowu was genuinely worried about Wan Xia.
Since she was sent here by Prince Qing, she couldn’t possibly be just a dancer.
Xiaowu contemplated as he continued, “I think it’s wiser to get someone else to do it.”
Chu Yunshen glanced at Xiaowu before stroking Cheng Xiaoxiao’s back as he said indifferently, “The little fellow likes her.”
“Fine.”
Xiaowu was incapable of retorting.
Despite knowing the cat for far longer than Wan Xia, she refused to give him the time of a day after all his flattery.
She either scratched or bit him.
Instead, she adored Wan Xia, who only recently entered the Jing residence.
He heard Butler Liu say that the cat even curled up obediently in the woman’s arms.
Other than Prince Jing, he had never seen her let anyone else hold her.
Since even Prince Jing insisted, Xiaowu didn’t go on debating.
Cheng Xiaoxiao heard everything while she lay curled up in Chu Yunshen’s arms. Her eyes gleamed when she heard Chu Yunshen picked Wan Xia to care for her because she liked Wan Xia.
However, the moment she recalled Chu Yunshen’s actions, fury leaped from her eyes.
Cheng Xiaoxiao lay motionlessly in Chu Yunshen’s arms all afternoon. That’s right. She lay like a corpse regardless of Chu Yunshen’s teasing and didn’t react at all.
She didn’t move a muscle until bedtime.
When Chu Yunshen placed his head next to hers, Cheng Xiaoxiao did her utmost to suppress her urge to inch away.
She could only best express her fury by not reacting whatsoever.
If she moved her head away, it would look like she was throwing a temper.
No, she wasn’t going to do that!
Cheng Xiaoxiao was already an adult!
Hence, she had to show Chu Yunshen how mature she was.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was from the 21st century and different from the women of this generation.
She didn’t give about female virtues!
Those virtues had nothing to do with her!
How could he expect her to act adorable after infuriating her!
No way!
The next day, the moment Cheng Xiaoxiao woke up, she saw a maid dressed in pink inside the room.
She gently spoke when she caught sight of Cheng Xiaoxiao waking up, “Are you up?”
Cheng Xiaoxiaos stretched before she meowed at her.
“Miss Wan Xia sent me to take you to Yulan quarters. She knows you adore fish soup, so she is making some for you now.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s eyes glinted the moment she heard fish soup.
Sure enough, men were the worst, and only girlfriends were the best.
Cheng Xiaoxiao swiftly jumped off the bed and darted out the window.
The maid in pink hurriedly chased after her. “Hey! Wait up!”
When she finally made it back to Yulan quarters, she discovered the cat had already found her way to Wan Xia’s room.
“Miss!”
The moment the maid entered the room, she spotted Cheng Xiaoxiao curled up in Wan Xia’s arms.
She pointed at Cheng Xiaoxiao as she gasped and told Wan Xia, “Miss, the cat ran over right away when you said you made her fish soup.”
Wan Xia pursed her lips at the maid in pink and smiled gently. “Yue, split the fish soup into two bowls. Give one bowl to the cat and the other bowl to…”
Wan Xia paused. She looked at Qin lying unconscious on the bed and wiped her tears from the corner of her eye with a handkerchief. “Give the other bowl to Qin. I hope she wakes up soon.”
“Yes, Miss!”
Yue immediately headed to the kitchen. She removed the fish soup from the stove and split it into two bowls before she brought the soup back on a tray.
After Cheng Xiaoxiao had her fill, she curled up on a large stone table in the middle of Yulan quarters and fell asleep.
When the other women living in Yulan quarters saw Cheng Xiaoxiao here, they didn’t even dare to open their doors.
All of them hid in their rooms and did embroidery instead.
They could only wait for Cheng Xiaoxiao, the devil incarnate, to leave.
They certainly didn’t want to spend the entire day cooped up indoors.
In reality, Cheng Xiaoxiao was only pretending to sleep on the rock table. After Yue lost her guard and thought she was asleep, she swiftly escaped from Yulan quarters.
Surely she wouldn’t encounter Chu Hongyi today, right?
She deliberately spent all morning at Yulan quarters to steer clear of the usual time that Chu Hongyi liked to sneak into Prince Jing’s residence.
Even if Chu Hongyi turned up at the residence to visit her, he would probably head back to the palace when he failed to find her.
Cheng Xiaoxiao dodged the guards the entire way. Instead, Chu Hongyi’s smug voice suddenly came from overhead when she almost made it to the dog hole. “Hmm? Little fellow, it’s such a coincidence to bump into you.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao shrank her paws back hastily. She raised her head to see Chu Hongyi sitting on the wall before she glanced at the dog hole nearby. In an instant, her heart turned icy cold.
She was highly suspicious whether Chu Hongyi had planted a radar on her.
Each time she attempted to leave the residence, Chu Hongyi would surprisingly turn up at the perfect time when she was about to leave.
“Look at what I brought you today, little fellow!”
Chu Hongyi jumped down the wall before pulling a furry ball out from his chest and placing it in front of Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Cheng Xiaoxiao glanced at him lazily before secretly looking at the dog hole concealed behind some long grass. She turned and headed to the usual rock garden she hung out at.
She immediately located a smooth rock and lay down on it to enjoy the sun when she got there.
If she knew this would happen, she would have stayed at Wan Xia’s quarters.
It was so irritating of Chu Hongyi to turn up at Prince Jing’s residence every day to thwart her plans!
However, he always turned up near the dog hole.
Sometimes he sat on the wall. Occasionally, he leaned against the wall with his head tilted as he smiled at her.
“I see we meet again.”
He looked at her like he had managed to catch her here again.
“Don’t you like it?”
Chu Hongyi placed the ball of fur in front of Cheng Xiaoxiao once more.
He moved the ball a few times in his hands when he noticed Cheng Xiaoxiao’s disinterest as he looked at her. “What do you think? Isn’t this fun?”
“Meow!”
Stop being a nuisance!
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at him before turning to face the other side.
Chu Hongyi rubbed his temples. His fourth older brother’s cat was tough to get along with.
Even though he had done all he could to get close to her for days, she ignored his efforts.
He wanted to bring her to the palace with him, but his fourth older brother stopped him.
His long-time friend was the one who came up with this strategy of bringing the cat a furry ball.
His friend said cats usually adored furry balls. However, this white cat didn’t seem interested at all.
Chu Hongyi sat down next to Cheng Xiaoxiao with the furry ball in hand and noticed Cheng Xiaoxiao staring outside the residence.
“What’s so interesting outside? You’ve been staring in that direction for days,” said Chu Hongyi as he patted Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head gently.
“Meow!”
Don’t touch her!
Cheng Xiaoxiao turned her head and threatened him before she continued looking outside the residence.
Of course, it was interesting outside!
Her buns had been waiting for her outside for so long!
If Chu Hongyi didn’t keep coming to the residence to harass her, she would have already snuck out the dog hole by now.
Would she be curling up here thinking about the tasty buns and be incapable of eating them?
“Heheh.”
Chu Hongyi’s soft laughter suddenly came from behind, so Cheng Xiaoxiao turned to glance at him.
Why was he laughing like an idiot?
Chu Hongyi noticed he had gotten the white cat’s attention, so he moved the furry ball up and down as he said sadly, “You are just like your master. Regardless of how I try, I can’t make either of you happy.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao was instantly outraged and glared at him with her contrasting eyes.
Who cared about being the same as that ice block?
Cheng Xiaoxiao curled up on the rockery and enjoyed the sun all afternoon while Chu Hongyi kept talking nonstop.
He kept talking about his childhood days with Chu Yunshen in the palace.
“Little fellow, are you listening to me?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly sensed someone touching her with something furry. She turned her head to see Chu Hongyi waving a furry ball at her as he said, “Let me tell you some interesting stories about your owner.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes at Chu Hongyi before she lay her head back on the rockery. Chu Yunshen was such an ice block. How interesting could his childhood be?
“Hey! Don’t ignore me.” Chu Hongyi touched Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head with the furry ball again. “Let me tell you a story. Your master and I once climbed up a tree to steal birds’ eggs. He was around nine years old and around this tall.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao glanced at him and caught Chu Hongyi gesturing at the height of approximately 1.3 meters.
Chu Hongyi instantly chuckled as he continued when he noticed the white cat looking at him, “But the tree that we climbed was the tallest tree in the palace, so we realized it was too hard to climb back down after we got up!”
Chu Hongyi held his belly and laughed out loud. “Now that I recall it, I feel embarrassed. All I did was cry while Brother Yunshen comforted me like he was an adult, until…”
