Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 72
Chapter 72 Save me Granny Cat Demon
Cheng Xiaoxiao pounced on the man in gray before he had wrapped his mind around what happened.
The man in gray frowned hard when he realized spiritual energy was futile against Cheng Xiaoxiao.
He glanced at the altar table by the side, sucked it into his hand, and it came flying towards him instantly.
“Heh,” sneered the man in gray with his eyes cold. “Prepare to die!”
A shadow came looming over Cheng Xiaoxiao. The instant the huge altar table came crashing towards her, she hastily jumped on its corner and prepared to jump to the ceiling.
PAH!
The moment Cheng Xiaoxiao’s jade pendant grazed the ghost’s neck, the spiritual energy around his neck got absorbed by the jade pendant. Then Cheng Xiaoxiao lost her balance and fell along with the ghost.
“AHHH!”
“AHHH!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao and the ghost both screamed shrilly.
RUMBLE!
The altar table fell onto the ground as well. It broke into pieces and scattered all over the ground.
“Save me, Granny Cat Demon!”
A shrill cry came from behind.
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised her paws to smoothen the cat fur on the top of her head. Then she turned to see the ghost who seemed like a 17 to 18-year-old young man.
Since his outfit didn’t seem to come from this generation, he must have died a long time ago.
He was skin and bones, and his stomach was completely empty.
“Don’t be afraid. Nothing will happen to you with me around.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her paw out and pulled the young ghost behind her. Then she raised her head to see the rows and rows of ghosts hanging overhead.
So all she had to do was to touch the spiritual energy around their necks with the jade pendant for it to get absorbed!
However, there were so many ghosts. If she were to jump up and release them one by one, she would certainly get exhausted!
“Granny Cat Demon, watch out!” shouted the young ghost behind her deeply.
Cheng Xiaoxiao turned to see the man in gray floating in mid-air as he brandished his hands randomly.
A menacing look radiated from his face, and he looked like he was on the verge of going insane.
Before she wrapped her mind around it, the ghosts hanging overhead fell on her like a pack of wantons falling into a pot.
“AHHH!” shouted Cheng Xiaoxiao loudly. She raised her paw to cover her head as she jumped around inside the abandoned temple to evade the falling ghosts.
A loud bang rang in her ears.
Owing to her third eye, Cheng Xiaoxiao could clearly see those ghosts turning into a pool of flesh and blood as they crashed onto the ground while their blood flowed everywhere.
“Come out! How dare a cat like you attempt to ruin centuries of my work! Come on then!”
The man in gray released his powerful spirit energy everywhere and instantly filled the temple with dark smoke.
Cheng Xiaoxiao hid behind a chair with the young ghost she saved following behind her as they watched the man in gray go hysterical.
Cheng Xiaoxiao touched the jade pendant on her neck.
Although it was capable of absorbing spiritual energy, it could only be done one by one. However, the man in gray was throwing the ghosts at her in large numbers.
So she was incapable of stopping him!
“Granny Cat Demon, think of something!” said the young ghost meekly from behind him, “He’s coming! My spirit will get extinguished by him!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao turned her head and reached her paw out to touch the young ghost’s head.
She watched as her paw went through the young ghost’s body. Then she hastily slapped her head. “Oh yes! I forgot you are ghosts and don’t have bodies! Why should I avoid him?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly darted out from behind the pillar. She stared hard at the man overhead with her contrasting eyes as he went berserk, and she pointed her paws at him. “Come over!”
“You want to die!”
The man in gray waved his hand, and a few ghosts hastily came hurtling towards Cheng Xiaoxiao hard.
Cheng Xiaoxiao stood firmly to the ground.
The instant the ghosts came crashing on her, the spiritual energy on them got absorbed by Cheng Xiaoxiao’s jade pendant completely. Then the ghosts went right through Cheng Xiaoxiao’s body and landed behind her.
The man in gray saw the scene and stared at the jade pendant hanging on the white cat’s neck in disbelief.
“How can anything be as powerful as that?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao rescued the ghosts by her feet before she looked at the man in gray and said calmly, “Now that you mention it, something crossed my mind. You were wrong about how meaningless their lives would become after reincarnating repeatedly!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao lifted her paws and walked towards him step by step as she spoke, “There are many meaningful things in the world!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao seemed to have caught the man’s eyes glinting. She glanced at the ghosts hanging overhead as she continued slowly, “Each time they reincarnate, they will meet different people, see different sceneries, have different lovers, and experience different lives. They will get to experience all things happy, sad, bitter, or sweet.”
She was just a cat now. If Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang told her she could reincarnate, she would probably be delighted.
“Wouldn’t they die in the end?” said the man in gray coldly.
“So what if you die in the end?” Cheng Xiaoxiao looked straight into the man’s eyes. “It still beats staying here for the rest of your life!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao glanced around the abandoned temple and said, “Although you claim it is boring to reincarnate, has it dawned on you how meaningless it is for you to waste your time here?”
This place was dark and dilapidated. Only he would want to spend eternity here!
“Of course, it’s meaningful to stay here!”
The man in gray floated over to Cheng Xiaoxiao and glared at her from overhead. “There’s an endless supply of spirits in this temple. I can eat as many of them as I please! I can live without restraint!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao was stunned. An endless supply of ghosts?
How is that possible?
This malicious ghost was probably famous for devouring spirits. Why would any other ghosts be dumb enough to come here?
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt something must be wrong!
She glanced around the abandoned temple!
Then she noticed something placed on all four corners of the temple.
They seemed like some kind of vessels used for sacrifice.
She found the pattern engraved on them familiar.
But where had she seen them before?
Cheng Xiaoxiao scratched her head as she looked at the sacrificial vessels.
It must be because of them!
If there was no malicious spirit haunting the temple, it made sense for the place to be filled with wandering spirits!
However, there was clearly such a powerful malevolent spirit lurking here. Why would a never-ending number of ghosts keep coming here?
Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly walked towards the sacrificial vessels as she pondered.
“What are you doing?”
The man’s voice came from behind.
Cheng Xiaoxiao ignored him and darted towards the corner of the house.
Cheng Xiaoxiao couldn’t help touching the sacrificial vessel that was gleaming threateningly when she saw it.
“No, what are you doing?”
Before the man in gray finished his sentence, a monk’s chanting could be heard around the abandoned temple.
He seemed to be summoning something or luring something to come.
The monk’s chanting penetrated her ears like a demonic sound.
Cheng Xiaoxiao covered her ears with her paws as she stared wide-eyed at the wandering spirits that suddenly appeared before her.
They appeared like unconscious zombies as they floated into the abandoned temple one after another.
The man in gray waved his hand and tied the ghosts with his spiritual energy before hanging them from the ceiling.
Cheng Xiaoxiao stared at the ghosts before her in disbelief!
Where did they come from?
“Didn’t I tell you to stop?”
The man in gray glared at Cheng Xiaoxiao angrily. Then he looked at the ghosts hanging on the ceiling and said, “I’m running out of space to hang them!”
“What’s going on?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao quickly walked up beneath the ghosts that had just come in. They were just like the other ghosts who had lost control of themselves and were all quietly hanging in mid-air.
The middle-aged man in gray didn’t reply Cheng Xiaoxiao. Instead, he sat on an old chair before he took a random ghost from the roof and started eating it!
The ghosts hiding beneath the chair all trembled in terror as they looked at Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at the man in gray oddly.
“Hey!” She ran up to his legs and pulled the ghost’s legs hard from the man’s arms and wanted to save the ghost from the man’s clutches.
“Let go!”
The man in gray waved his hand!
Powerful spirit energy surged into Cheng Xiaoxiao’s jade pendant. She looked at the jade pendant in shock as it glowed with a yellow light.
The man’s spiritual power seemed to have gotten stronger again!
Was his spirit energy rising because of the ghosts he ate?
The irritating sound of the chanting kept echoing by her ears as the sacrificial vessels in the four corners of the building spun wildly.
The man in gray ate even more quickly as the sound of the chanting quickened.
He ripped the ghosts apart and stuffed them into his mouth and swallowed them without even bothering to chew.
Cheng Xiaoxiao found this strange.
Why was there something different about the man in gray from earlier?
He was like a different man. No, wait. To be precise, he was no different from the ghosts hanging from the ceiling now.
The only difference was that he was the one eating them.
Why did this happen?
Did the sacrificial vessels have something to do with this change?
Cheng Xiaoxiao walked up to the sacrificial vessels and slapped them hard with her paws!
A formidable strength shot from the sacrificial vessels and sent Cheng Xiaoxiao flying!
After Cheng Xiaoxiao rolled over a few times, she stared hard at the sacrificial vessels in the four corners of the room!
She was absolutely certain the sacrificial vessels were to blame!
But who placed them here?
Just as Cheng Xiaoxiao was in a dilemma about what to do, a ghost suddenly floated out from beneath the chair. He hovered his index finger over his lip and gestured for Cheng Xiaoxiao to be quiet.
The man in gray was still feasting on ghosts so ravenously that he ate three ghosts at a go!
“Granny Cat Demon, follow me!”
The ghost led Cheng Xiaoxiao and floated towards a corner in the temple.
Then the ghost pointed at a brick in the wall and said, “There’s something hidden under this brick. Dig it out now!”
“What do you mean?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at the ghost quizzically. He looked around the same age as the middle-aged man in gray and seemed to have died a few centuries ago.
“Priest Zhao didn’t use to be like this! He spent all his life cultivating in the mountains and wanted to become immortal! But he didn’t succeed even until he died!” said the ghost as he glanced at the middle-aged man in gray, “But after he became a ghost, he didn’t go for reincarnation. Instead, he stayed among ghosts and taught us Taoism.”
“Is there such a side to him?” Cheng Xiaoxiao stared dumbstruck. She couldn’t believe that the Priest Zhao this ghost was talking about was the same person as the man in gray. “Then how did he end up like this?”
“Around a few years ago, ghosts started regularly disappearing from the place we used to reside not far from this abandoned temple. Priest Zhao brought us…”
Cheng Xiaoxiao listened as the ghost spoke tearfully before she finally figured out what happened.
All the other ghosts who came out in search of the lost spirits ended up devoured by Priest Zhao except him.
They ended up getting attracted by the monk’s chanting when they walked past this abandoned temple in their search.
They hid outside the temple to see what was going on. Then Priest Zhao said someone laid a Spirit Summoning Formation at the temple!
