Chapter 67 How did she get so seriously injured?
Butler Liu suddenly saw the wound the size of a fist and said in shock, “Erm…erm… How did this happen? Didn’t she just bump her head on a pillar?”
Wan Xia covered the corner of her mouth with her handkerchief and softly wept as an air of sadness emanated from her.
Butler Liu rubbed his temples somewhat anxiously. How was he going to answer to Prince Jing if someone really died?
He saw Wan Xia crying softly by the side and couldn’t help asking solemnly, “Miss Wan Xia, what happened today?”
Wan Xia wiped her tears as she said, “It was all my fault! The other ladies came over to talk to me. Things got a little chaotic because of the crowd, so Qin ended up bumping her head on the pillar accidentally when she was trying to protect me.”
Butler Liu glanced around at the other rooms in the compound sternly with perception. Then he turned to look at Wan Xia and said, “I will report this to His Highness accordingly.”
“Thank you, Butler Liu,” replied Wan Xia in gratitude right away as she bowed.
“Is there any hope for her?”
Butler Liu looked at the physician who was taking care of Qin’s injury.
The physician scattered medicine on Qin’s forehead as he rubbed the cold sweat on his brow with his sleeve and replied, “I will do my best to save her.”
Butler Liu nodded and said sternly, “We can’t let her die!”
After all, Prince Qing was the one who gave Wan Xia to Prince Jing. What kind of rumors would the people spread about Prince Jing if they found out some mishap befell her on her first day at the residence?
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt puzzled in her heart when she caught sight of the maid’s face while she lay in Wan Xia’s arms. Was she that seriously injured?
She left in such a hurry to find Mu Bai that she only glanced at it briefly. At that time, she also thought it was a minor injury.
Maybe the blood obscured the real injury?
Qin must hurt badly, considering how deep the wound was.
It was all Mu Bai’s fault for holding up treatment by insisting on seeking Chu Yunshen’s permission.
Was it not his duty as a doctor to save people?
The physician stood up and walked over to the table with his medical kit. Then he removed a brush and paper from his kit and started writing swiftly.
Wan Xia walked up to the bedside immediately and wiped tears from the corner of her eye as she whispered, “Qin, you must wake up. You can’t leave me.”
She touched Qin’s hand as she lay in bed while she spoke. From an outsider’s perspective, this mistress and maid looked close.
No one noticed how the unconscious Qin instinctively trembled instead when she sensed Wan Xia’s presence as though she was afraid of something.
Wan Xia could sense Qin’s hand moving. Was Qin about to regain consciousness?
She hastily grabbed Qin’s hand and asked tentatively, “Qin?”
However, Qin lay in bed in silence and didn’t reply her.
The physician had finished writing the prescription on the paper. He got up and bowed as he handed it to Butler Liu and said, “Get someone to prepare medicine for her based on this prescription for the next few days. Whether she can recover really depends on her fortune now.”
Butler Liu glanced at the unconscious maid on the bed as he nodded and replied, “Thanks so much. Let me show you to the accountant’s office and pay you the consultation fee.”
“Okay,” replied the physician as he cupped his hands respectfully to Butler Liu.
Before Butler Liu left, he walked up to Wan Xia who was sitting by the bed, and said, “Miss Wan Xia, please hand her to me!”
Wan Xia glanced at the lion cat in her arms and said quickly, “Sure.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao glanced at Butler Liu before she darted onto the ground swiftly. She waved her paw at Wan Xia.
“Meow.”
She would visit Wan Xia again.
Then she turned and ran out of the door.
Butler Liu instantly felt anxious. He hurriedly told Wan Xia, “Leave it to me, Miss Wan Xia. Don’t worry.”
Then he went chasing after Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Wan Xia stood up as she forced herself to smile calmly. She bowed to Butler Liu, who had already run out through the door. “Thanks for your help, Butler Liu.”
After she straightened her back, she glanced past the entrance and noticed the door of a room across the courtyard slightly open.
Moments later, she veered her eyes away from that door and shut her main door.
The door closed with a creak.
The moment she shut the door, the smile on her face disappeared. She subtly glanced at the corner on the east side of the room as she turned around.
In the shadows, there were signs of vigorous cleaning previously, and there was still a faint stain in the corner.
……
“Oh my! You’re going to kill me!”
Butler Liu kept chasing Cheng Xiaoxiao until they arrived at the main courtyard. The lion cat kept turning back to stick her tongue out mischievously when he was so exhausted that he placed his left hand on his knees and gasped.
He shouted at the servants searching the flower bed as he gasped, “Stop looking there! His Highness’ precious cat is there! Keep a close eye on her! Don’t let her run off again!”
“Yes, Butler Liu!”
The servants shouted as they turned their eyes in the direction Butler Liu was looking and saw Prince Jing’s cat trying to jump over the wall.
“Stop!” shouted a servant loudly as he rolled his sleeves up and ran towards Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Butler Liu genuinely couldn’t go on chasing her. He felt as though the naughty lion cat had worn his legs thin from all the running!
There was probably no way the cat could get into trouble with these strong young servants around.
“Butler Liu,” said Dr Li as he helped support the butler. He had come staggering after them with his medical kit in hand.
Then Butler Liu finally remembered him. He had yet to take the physician to the accountant’s office to collect payment. He patted the physician’s hand and quickly shouted at one of the servants trying to catch the cat. “Just leave them to watch the cat. Hurry up and take Dr Li to the accountant’s office.”
“Yes, Butler Liu!” One of the servants immediately led the physician away.
After Butler Liu composed himself, he immediately ordered a smart and quiet maid to get the medicine from the Chinese medicine hall. Then he told her to serve Wan Xia at Yulan quarters while her maid was recovering.
Also, he told her to report if anything happened in the compound immediately.
Just as Butler Liu was taking a sip of tea after he took care of everything, a servant came by quickly to report, “Butler Liu, His Highness’ cat went back to his room!”
“Good! Good! Send men to guard the room well!” Butler Liu drank another sip of cold tea to calm his nerves as he continued, “This time, we can’t let her run off again!”
“Yes, Butler Liu!”
Butler Liu finally wiped the sweat off his brow after the servant left.
There was simply too much excitement today.
First, Wan Xia arrived at the residence with great fanfare. Then someone told him Prince Jing’s cat went missing.
Before he managed to calm himself, someone reported that Wan Xia’s maid had knocked into the pillar and urgently needed a physician.
Butler Liu sighed now that he could finally catch a breather after being physically and mentally exhausted. However, barely before he warmed his seat, the maid he had sent to Yulan quarters to take care of Wan Xia ran back anxiously and said, “Oh no, Butler Liu!”
“What?” Butler Liu hastily sat up straight as she looked at the anxious maid. “Calm down and tell me everything!”
He felt he would swiftly age if he went on suffering all this shock on a daily basis!
“Miss Su from Yulan quarters got into an argument with Miss Wan Xia!” said the maid as she bowed to Butler Liu, “Butler Liu, I think you need to go over and take a look.”
“What happened? Miss Su usually stays out of trouble. What made her lose her cool today?”
Butler Liu stood up from the chair before he shouted at a few servants, “Come with me to Yulan quarters!”
“Yes, Butler Liu!”
When Butler Liu and the servants arrived at Yulan compound, he saw Miss Su standing outside Wan Xia’s closed doors, pointing as she shouted, “No matter how hard you pretend, you are just a lowly dancer! Do you know who I am?”
Miss Wu pulled her arm and begged, “Enough. Ninglan, we will be lowering ourselves if we take what she says to heart.”
“Didn’t you hear what she said? How dare she call me a bully? She even said she wanted to complain to His Highness!” said Miss Su after being struck at her Achille’s heel. Her lips curved into a cold smile as she pointed at the closed door and continued, “How dare she harbors fantasies about seeing His Highness after getting sent here? Doesn’t she know the moment she got sent here…”
“Ninglan!” Miss Wu spotted Butler Liu standing outside the compound entrance with his face cold and instantly tugged Miss Su, who was speaking agitatedly. “Butler Liu is here!”
The moment Miss Su heard about Butler Liu’s arrival, she turned to say to him fiercely, “Butler Liu, you can’t only listen one-sidedly to what the witch said!”
Miss Su pointed at the concubine beside her and said, “Plenty of people in the quarters witnessed everything! Her maid knocked into the pillar on her own!”
She glanced at the other concubines beside her as she spoke. Then everyone nodded in unison and said.
“That’s true! I can attest to that!”
“Me too! I was a witness too! She bumped into the pillar on her own!”
Butler Liu bowed at Miss Su first and said, “Greetings, Miss Su.”
After Butler Liu greeted her, he entered the compound and glanced at the beautifully dressed women, and said coldly, “Are all of you willing to testify to this?”
“Yes!” All the concubines nodded in unison.
The door behind Butler Liu creaked open at this moment.
Wan Xia walked out of the room in a light blue outfit.
Her long dark hair was held up casually by an elegant silver hairpin.
The wind made her dress flutter.
“Greetings, Butler Liu.”
Wan Xia bowed to Butler Liu after she walked down the steps and stopped in front of him.
“Hmph! Lowly people like you are a disgrace.”
Miss Su scoffed. Which mistress of the residence ever bows to a mere butler?
The moment they entered this compound, they were Prince Jing’s concubines after all.
“Ninglan!” Miss Qu quickly tugged Miss Su’s sleeve when she detected how angry Butler Liu looked and shook her head at her.
She couldn’t blame Miss Su for being angry. Wan Xia honestly went overboard.
Miss Su clearly didn’t participate in the harrassment the other day. However, Wan Xia blamed Miss Su for instigating the other concubines.
She even called Miss Su a bully.
Didn’t she know who Miss Su was?
Since she was imperial consort Su’s distant cousin, she stood the highest chance of becoming the secondary consort.
Ever since she entered Yulan quarters, she hadn’t left her room.
Even the usual troublemakers in the quarters steered clear of her after they found out who she was.
But here Wan Xia was offending Miss Su the moment she arrived.
“Then let’s wait for His Highness to decide what to do about this after he returns.”
The moment they heard this incident was going to get reported to Prince Jing, the concubines got startled.
“Butler Liu, let’s not bother His Highness with a small thing like this.” One of the concubines walked up to Butler Liu and said warily, “His Highness is a busy man, so we can take care of this on our own.”
