Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 53
Chapter 53 Caught red-handed
All Cheng Xiaoxiao had to do now was chant to the jade pendant if she wanted to eat this delectable food.
But she couldn’t do it!
She had to save her quota.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt she was simply torturing herself if she kept strolling on the streets.
She turned and wanted to head back to Prince Jing’s residence.
Then a horse carriage suddenly sped towards Cheng Xiaoxiao, so she dodged into the nearby tofu stall.
After she steadied herself, her fur exploded. She immediately craned her neck towards the horse carriage and waved her paw.
How could they drive so recklessly?
Couldn’t they see someone… no, correction… see a cat standing here?
Hmm?
Why did that horse carriage seem awfully familiar?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was standing at the corner of the street trying to recall where she had seen the horse carriage before when she heard some men gossiping at the tofu stall while they ate.
“Is that Miss Wan Xia’s horse carriage? The one who made a name for herself with a single dance?” said a man as he looked longingly in the direction the horse carriage had left with a piece of jellied tofu hanging from the corner of his mouth.
“I can do anything to see her perform the taoyao dance!” said the man beside him infatuatedly with a bowl of tofu in his hands.
“Is that all?” shouted a man dressed in a worn-out mandarin robe suddenly as he stood up, “I think just her smile is worth dying for.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao had already recalled that the carriage belonged to the woman who saved her from getting run over by a horse carriage previously!
Her face turned dark when she heard all the things those men were blabbering.
They were saying things in blind adoration for her.
She couldn’t help casting a look of disdain at those unkempt men!
They were unfit to lust after her savior!
Just as she was about to leave, the tofu stall lady boss suddenly placed a piping hot bowl of jellied tofu on their table. “Isn’t the food enough to stop you from talking? Do you want to die? Don’t you know where Miss Wan Xia lives?”
“You’re right! Hurry up and eat! If the jellied tofu turns cold, then we will be letting down the lady boss’ kind intentions!”
Then the man reached his hand towards the lady boss’ butt.
“AHHH!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao hastily pounced on the man and left several bloody scratches on his hand!
“Where did this animal come from?”
“Stop right there! Don’t run!”
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao darted some distance away before she turned to hiss at the fat man behind her.
Did he think he could catch her?
After hissing at the man, she took off!
“Stop right there!” roared the fat man as he swiftly picked up a fire stick by his feet and yelled at Cheng Xiaoxiao.
“Li, forget it!” A man who was eating jellied tofu with him pulled him back. “It’s just a stray cat!”
“Do stray cats wear such expensive clothes? It must belong to some rich family! I’m going to bloody catch it!”
So he could blackmail the cat’s owner for some money!
The fat man kept chasing behind with the fire stick as Cheng Xiaoxiao ran.
Oh God!
Why did the man have such good stamina?
Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly stopped as she almost ran past the alley!
“Go on and run!”
The man looked at the white cat which had halted at the alley.
He weighed the fire stick in his hands as he cast an evil look at Cheng Xiaoxiao with his round face. He was so smug that he was almost grinning from ear to ear. “Why did you stop running?”
“WOOF! WOOF WOOF!”
“AHHH!”
The man got startled by the stray dogs and staggered.
“What the hell!”
He kept brandishing his stick at the barking stray dogs. “Get lost!”
“WOOF WOOF WOOF!”
The stray dogs stood in front of Cheng Xiaoxiao while they bared their fangs and barked madly at the man with a stick!
“You…”
Before the man finished his sentence, a dog suddenly bit the hand holding a stick.
“AHHH!”
Then the fat man threw the stick and turned to run!
The pack of stray dogs went chasing after him.
The fat man got chased away by those wild dogs.
Cheng Xiaoxiao heaved a sigh of relief. She looked up to see that the sun had almost set completely.
She immediately wriggled into the dog hole.
The door creaked open the moment she jumped into it and landed on the ground.
She instantly leaped onto the table and retrieved the bell from the baby bird’s cage.
Then she zipped into the inner room.
“Hmm? I could still hear the bell a moment ago. Why did it stop? Was I mistaken, Master?”
Xiaowu glanced around after entering the room with Chu Yunshen.
He found the lion cat after scouring the place. Then he walked up to Chu Yunshen and said, “Master, I think the little fellow snuck out again!”
A weak meowing came from inside the room just as he spoke.
How can that be? He had just checked the inner room and was certain there was no sign of the cat.
Xiaowu immediately entered the inner room to see a blue silhouette rolling out from the silk gauze. He scooped up the cat and walked over to Chu Yunshen.
DING DING DING!
A bell rolled over to his feet just as he was about to walk over.
“When did this fall off?” Xiaowu bent over to pick up the bell and tied it back onto Cheng Xiaoxiao’s paw. Then he turned to walk over to Chu Yunshen. “Little fellow. What were you doing hiding there? Did you want to play hide and seek?”
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes at him before darting out of his arms onto the ground.
“Hey!” cried Xiaowu as he was about to grab the white cat.
A pair of slender hands had already landed on the white cat’s waist.
Xiaowu looked up to see it was Chu Yunshen, so he immediately pulled his hands back and straightened his back.
“Send the food,” said Chu Yunshen indifferently.
“Yes, Master!” said Xiaowu immediately before telling the kitchen about it.
After they had their fill, Xiaowu entered the room once again. He leaned next to Chu Yunshen’s ear and whispered something to him.
Cheng Xiaoxiao noticed Chu Yunshen’s eyes turning dark briefly before he looked down at her.
So she felt guilty. Did they find out that she had snuck out?
After Xiaowu finished talking to Chu Yunshen, Chu Yunshen stroked the white cat’s back as he said calmly, “Okay. Send Mu Bai over.”
“Yes, Master!” Xiaowu glanced at Cheng Xiaoxiao. The kitchen steward said two chicken drumsticks and a dishtowel went missing today when Xiaowu went to the kitchen.
Prince Jing’s residence always enforced strict rules. Also, Prince Jing was always generous with the servants, so they would never steal from him.
So the moment the kitchen steward saw Xiaowu in the kitchen, he asked obliquely about the whereabouts of the prince’s cat today.
Although Xiaowu told him the cat had been in the room all day, he reported it to the prince just to be safe.
After all, the cat almost went bald from consuming too much salty food previously.
What if she failed to learn her lesson and ate the stewed chicken drumsticks? Then what should they do if she started losing fur tomorrow?
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao tugged Chu Yunshen’s shirt collar with her paws and kept looking at him helplessly.
After Xiaowu left the room to get Mu Bai, Chu Yunshen kept staring at her nonstop, making her fur stand.
But why did Chu Yunshen want to see Mu Bai?
Was he hurt?
Cheng Xiaoxiao kept feeling Chu Yunshen around with her paws. After checking for a long time, there was no sign of any injury.
Was it an internal injury?
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao cried worriedly at Chu Yunshen.
Chu Yunshen touched her furry head and said calmly, “Where did you sneak off to today?”
Oh God!
How did he find out?
Didn’t she hide her tracks well?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was so shocked that her body stiffened. Then she immediately relaxed.
Calm down.
It might be a misunderstanding.
She raised her head and gazed at Chu Yunshen innocently with her big bright eyes.
“Meow?”
Chu Yunshen’s eyes landed on the little fellow’s contrasting eyes. Those bright eyes of hers seemed to be saying, “What are you saying? I don’t know what you mean.”
Then Xiaowu’s anxious voice came from the door, “Master, Doctor Mu is here!”
Chu Yunshen raised his head to look at the door and said, “Come in.”
“Yes, Master!”
Xiaowu led Mu Bai into the room right away.
The moment Mu Bai came in, he walked up to Chu Yunshen with his medical kit. “Your Highness, let me take a look.”
Mu Bai was instantly at a loss when he spotted the energetic little fellow in Chu Yunshen’s arms.
Xiaowu suddenly went over to Mu Bai’s room and said the prince’s cat ate salty food again.
Mu Bai was so worried that he immediately put down the external wound medicine he was working on and followed Xiaowu here with his medical kit.
Did this cat look like she was sick from eating salty food?
Mu Bai looked at the lion cat standing on her hind legs in Chu Yunshen’s arms, doing her utmost to reach for Chu Yunshen’s shirt collar. Then he glared at Xiaowu. “Is this your idea of something urgent?”
Xiaowu scratched his head awkwardly as he smiled and replied, “I forgot to make myself clear. We were merely suspicious that she ate salty food.”
Mu Bai rolled his eyes at Xiaowu before taking the cat from Chu Yunshen.
Shortly after Mu Bai started to check the lion cat, she started to struggle. Mu Bai pressed the lion down and said gently, “Stop moving. It will just take a minute.”
“Meow!”
She was a girl. How could he touch her?
She was perfectly fine and wasn’t sick!
Why did Chu Yunshen tell Mu Bai to examine her?
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her head out and meowed resentfully at Chu Yunshen.
After Mu Bai finished examining her, he handed the cat to Chu Yunshen. “The little fellow is a little malnourished. Other than that, she isn’t sick.”
“What do you mean by malnourished?” asked Xiaowu as he looked at Mu Bai perplexedly.
Mu Bai picked up his medical kit as he said, “She had too much activity of late! Also, she suffered some shock. Just make her some clear fish soup to help replenish her nourishment.”
Then Mu Bai bowed to Chu Yunshen and said, “Your Highness, if that’s all, allow me to take my leave.” He was halfway through his medical research and was at a critical point, so he had to hurry back to work.
“Mhm,” replied Chu Yunshen gently without looking up. Ever since he took the lion cat back into his arms, he kept looking at her.
The little fellow deceived him!
“Master, Doctor Mu said she was exhausted from running around too much. How can that be? Didn’t she stay in the room for days? Unless…” said Xiaowu as he glanced at Cheng Xiaoxiao, “She wasn’t in the room to begin with.”
Xiaowu’s voice landed like a bolt from the blue.
The room went terrifyingly quiet.
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised her head and glanced at Chu Yunshen furtively. Chu Yunshen’s face was as cold as a block of ice.
“Meow.”
She stood up on her hind legs and used her head to rub Chu Yunshen’s chin.
A frosty voice suddenly came from overhead, “Tell the kitchen to prepare the little fellow a bowl of carp soup daily from tomorrow onwards and not to add any other ingredients.”
“Yes, Master!” acknowledged Xiaowu before heading out. He peered at the little fellow while she acted adorable in Chu Yunshen’s arms as he shut the door. Why did the little fellow have such a good life?
