Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 48
Chapter 48 Biography of Su Wu
“Meow meow.”
Chu Yunshen’s hand slowly fell to his side. Was the naughty cat just being cute?
“Are you hungry? Shall I get you some food?”
Chu Yunshen picked up the lion cat and walked out. Xiaowu was waiting for him outside.
“Meow meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao nodded. Catching ghosts was a tiring affair especially since she was worried about getting caught, so she ran the entire way.
After dinner, Cheng Xiaoxiao curled up on the bed very early and fell into a deep sleep.
By the time she woke up, it was already the next day.
The room was a little cold and dark, and the air smelled a little damp.
Outside the window, the pitter patter of the rain could be heard.
Cheng Xiaoxiao climbed out from under the blanket and noticed that she was already dressed in a green outfit.
Cheng Xiaoxiao wondered which maid was so gentle when she dressed her that she didn’t even realize.
The bell on her paw jingled as she walked.
After she jumped onto the window sill, Cheng Xiaoxiao saw a servant sitting on the steps looking at the rain. He turned when he heard a noise and said with a smile, “Do you want to look at the rain too?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao nodded her head. Then she stretched lazily and curled up on the window sill and stared at the dark cloud hanging in the sky.
The fine rain came falling from the sky. Despite the light rain, it was rather dense and seemed to cover the residence with a layer of fine gauze.
Since the weather was bad, Cheng Xiaoxiao genuinely had to stay indoors today.
Cheng Xiaoxiao curled up on the window sill as she listened to the sound of the rain.
The rainy weather gave off a sense of loss, so Cheng Xiaoxiao felt dejected too.
The rain was like a damp silver cobweb weaving into a light, gentle web and covered the entire courtyard.
Before long, Cheng Xiaoxiao spotted the maid who took care of her food daily walking past the corner with an oil paper umbrella.
“Are you here to send food again?” asked the servant nervously as he immediately stood up and greeted the maid.
The maid nodded gently, and her face turned as red as her clothes.
CREAK.
The door opened from outside. Cheng Xiaoxiao jumped onto the chair and waited for the maid to come over.
The maid left the umbrella outside the door before carrying a tray in and placing it on the table. Then she scooped Cheng Xiaoxiao some milk paste and said, “Little fellow, eat up.”
She picked up a bowl of beef jerky and walked over to the baby bird’s cage, and said, “It’s time for you to eat too.”
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird jumped around in the cage joyfully.
After both of them were done eating, the maid placed the used crockery and cutlery on the tray and left the room.
Cheng Xiaoxiao jumped onto the window sill and watched as the servant deftly pick up the umbrella for the maid.
“Thanks,” said the maid. Then she nodded to the servant and left without turning back.
After the maid left, the servant sat back on the steps. He turned to discover the white cat curled up on the window sill. Then he laughed and said, “If you keep sitting there, I’m going to start thinking that you’re waiting to sneak out when I’m not looking.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao turned to return to the room.
If she wanted to sneak out, there was no way he would realize.
The servant shook his head when the cat disappeared from the window sill. He knew that Prince Jing’s cat could understand him, but he didn’t expect her to be so smart.
Cheng Xiaoxiao jumped onto the chair after she went back into the room and let the baby bird out.
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird jumped around once it regained its freedom.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at the month old baby bird. It always jumped around like this, and its actions often made her forget it was an eagle!
It was already a month old, but all it could do was jump.
She once heard a story about mature eagles teaching their eaglets to fly.
But it was too cruel, and she couldn’t do it.
Cheng Xiaoxiao glanced at the baby bird’s cage on the table, and a thought emerged in her head.
“Meow.”
When was the baby bird going to start flying?
Cheng Xiaoxiao prodded the baby bird’s little wings while it played happily.
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird seemed tickled and instantly flapped its wings wildly and jumped aside.
“Meow.”
Where was the baby bird running to?
Cheng Xiaoxiao gave chase and swiftly lowered her head to pick up the baby bird by its neck. Then she jumped onto the table.
“Meow.”
Stay here!
She placed the baby bird on the table before she pushed it to the table’s edge with her head.
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird was so terrified that it kept flapping its wings as it retreated. Cheng Xiaoxiao blocked its path and kept meowing nonstop.
“Meow!”
Go on, fly!
Cheng Xiaoxiao stretched out her front paws to demonstrate how to fly to the baby bird.
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird chirped nonstop as it shrank further into the table and turned to look at Cheng Xiaoxiao meekly.
It made Cheng Xiaoxiao feel softhearted.
Forget it!
She decided to go all out with the demonstration.
“Meow.”
Look carefully!
Cheng Xiaoxiao walked up to the edge of the table. She turned to look at the baby bird behind her.
“Meow.”
With a meow, Cheng Xiaoxiao flapped her front paws and jumped off the table. She did her utmost to flap her arms in mid-air.
She turned to look at the baby bird on the table and nodded. Then she meowed for it to come down.
“Meow.”
The baby bird jumped to the table’s edge apprehensively and looked down at the lion cat. Then it stretched its wings out.
“Meow.”
She would be there to catch it.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at the baby bird resolutely before stepping forward to look up at the baby bird.
The baby bird walked on the table’s edge tentatively and spread its wings like the white cat.
“Meow!”
That’s right!
Cheng Xiaoxiao immediately meowed at the baby bird approvingly when it finally tried.
“Chirp chirp!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao could hear the baby bird chirping excitedly from overhead. Then the cute white baby bird came crashing down on her head.
Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly saw stars.
She wanted it to learn to fly and certainly didn’t tell it to land on her head!
“Chirp chirp!”
It didn’t attempt to stop when it crashed on her head. Instead, it hopped excitedly on her head nonstop.
Cheng Xiaoxiao lowered her body to place the furry chin on the ground as she brushed the baby bird down from her head with her paw.
“Meow!”
Get down now!
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird tumbled down Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head and kept rolling until it reached the silk gauze segregating the inner and outer rooms.
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird seemed to have discovered something new and fun, so it excitedly played with the silk gauze.
Cheng Xiaoxiao glanced at the baby bird helplessly. She had no control over the baby bird whatsoever.
It kept raining outside, so Cheng Xiaoxiao idled around in the room. There were no mobile phones, computers, or any electrical appliances.
Then her eyes suddenly landed on Chu Yunshen’s table, and her eyes lit up. Why didn’t she think of this sooner? She could read.
Cheng Xiaoxiao jumped onto Chu Yunshen’s table and rummaged around. Other than military books, he had the classics. She instantly lost all interest. Just as she was about to jump off the table, her eyes landed on a book entitled, ‘Biography of Su Wu’, written by Ban Gu.
She instantly jumped in front of the book and flipped a few pages with her paws. Although she found it too scholarly, she could at least do something to pass the time.
Cheng Xiaoxiao bit a corner of the book and dragged it back to the window sill.
Cheng Xiaoxiao snuggled in front of the book and flipped a page as rain fell outside. She glanced at the rain falling from the eaves with the corner of her eyes and felt it would be perfect if there was some tea.
Time slowly went by.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was so engrossed that she didn’t realize someone had opened the door.
She had reached the part of the story about Su Wu’s reluctance to surrender to the Xiongnu Chief, so he was imprisoned in a crypt without any food or drink.
Su Wu lay there surviving on snow by consuming it with wool to allay his hunger and survived for a few days.
“Master, erm…” said Xiaowu as his footsteps halted, “Is the little fellow sitting on the table reading?”
A green ball huddled on Chu Yunshen’s table, reading the ‘Biography of Su Wu’ absorbingly.
They could clearly hear the flipping of pages in the room.
Chu Yunshen turned to glance at Xiaowu behind him. Xiaowu immediately kept quiet and followed Chu Yunshen into the room.
Chu Yunshen deliberately softened his footsteps when he slowly approached the table.
The rain outside the window paired with the green figure on the table left Chu Yunshen in a daze.
The little fellow dressed in green sat with her back facing him. She flipped through the book intriguingly like a mischievous two year old child lying on the table reading an adult’s book.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt cold air gushing into her garments from behind, so she hastily turned around to see Chu Yunshen and Xiaowu standing behind her. She was so startled that she immediately let go of the book.
“Meow.”
She meowed and hurriedly jumped onto Chu Yunshen’s shoulder.
She glanced at the open door. Why didn’t she hear all the commotion?
“Little fellow, are you reading? Can you even understand the ‘Biography of Su Wu’? No, wait. Can you read at all?”
Xiaowu was so shocked that he asked several questions at a go.
“Meow.”
Calm down, okay?
So what if she was reading?
If Xiaowu ever saw Cheng Xiaoxiao using a mobile phone, he might end up fainting.
She was from the 21st century, okay?
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at Xiaowu before she shrunk her head into Chu Yunshen’s arms.
Chu Yunshen held the lion cat out of habit. He rubbed her head gently while he kept staring at the open ‘Biography of Su Wu’, lying on the table.
Could a cat read?
It was the first time he ever witnessed something so strange.
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao saw Chu Yunshen staring at the ‘Biography of Su Wu’, so she immediately rubbed Chu Yunshen’s chest with her head. She was so nervous that her heart was in her mouth.
Then again, it was certainly odd that the cat could read, so it was no surprise that Xiaowu reacted so strongly.
“Meow meow.”
Is the book better looking than me?
Cheng Xiaoxiao did her utmost to raise her paws and stick her tongue out and act adorable. She had to draw Chu Yunshen’s attention away from the book.
Chu Yunshen lowered his head and looked at the cute little fellow at her red and brown imploring eyes.
“Are you hungry?” asked Chu Yunshen with his lips curving upwards.
Cheng Xiaoxiao immediately took his lead and nodded nonstop.
“Meow meow.”
She patted her belly with her paws as she meowed.
Chu Yunshen’s eyes turned dark as he looked at the cat in his arms nod as she patted her belly.
What other mysteries were there about the little fellow?
“Send in food,” said Chu Yunshen to Xiaowu standing behind him. Then he carried Cheng Xiaoxiao and walked over to the table.
