Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 42
Chapter 42 Offending the Prince Jing
Cheng Xiaoxiao stared hard at the traditional wedding dress. She wished she was in human form now, so she could try it. Then it would have made her trip to ancient times worthwhile.
Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly felt the jade pendant on her neck burn up badly. She lowered her head to see bright light bursting from it.
She could feel something pulling at her body hard and making her extremely hot. Then her mind passed out for a few seconds.
When she finally regained consciousness, she was speechless from the shock.
Erm…erm…
Cheng Xiaoxiao could see herself standing in the room naked in human form.
Did she become a human being?
How did she turn into a human?
Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly pulled the wedding dress from its box and put it on out of embarrassment.
After she got dressed, she lowered her head and raised her hands and touched her right hand with her left. It was all real.
She was not a spirit.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was a living, breathing human!
She had transformed into a human!
Before Cheng Xiaoxiao could scream with joy, a constricting sensation came sweeping towards her. Then the familiar sounding footsteps came from outside.
“Master, the little fellow attempted to escape while you were away just as you suspected. I already made her go back into the room.”
“Mhm.”
Were Chu Yunshen and Xiaowu here?
Cheng Xiaoxiao covered her chest as she got enshrouded by a strong sense of constriction, making her suffocate so badly that she almost lost her breath.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt so anxious that she could hear her heartbeat audibly as their footsteps came closer.
How should she explain herself to Chu Yunshen and Xiaowu?
Just as the door creaked open…
Cheng Xiaoxiao suffered fragmented memory for a few seconds again. Then she felt as though her body was being crushed by something when she came to herself.
When she climbed out from under the object, she shockingly realized it was the wedding dress squashing her.
Shouldn’t the wedding dress be on her?
Why did it fall onto the ground?
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked down quizzically and saw her furry little paws.
Did she transform back into a cat?
Before Cheng Xiaoxiao had the opportunity to feel disappointed, Chu Yunshen’s cold voice suddenly came from overhead, “Xiaowu!”
Before Cheng Xiaoxiao wrapped her mind around it, her body went up into mid-air, and she found herself in Xiaowu’s arms.
Then Xiaowu muttered privately to her, “Little fellow, you’re a cat. Why did you put on clothes? You’re in big trouble now. This wedding dress was left behind by Prince Jing’s mother, and only the prince’s consort has the right to wear it!”
Did the wedding dress belong to Chu Yunshen’s mother?
An immense sense of guilt surged in Cheng Xiaoxiao’s heart. She watched as Chu Yunshen carefully picked up the wedding dress and patted it of dust bit by bit.
“Meow meow.”
She was wrong.
Cheng Xiaoxiao meowed guiltily at Chu Yunshen.
But Chu Yunshen acted unhearing and folded the wedding dress before placing it neatly into the box. Then he took the box and placed it back into the cabinet carefully.
Chu Yunshen didn’t look at Cheng Xiaoxiao at all, not even angrily.
“Stay in the cage first and behave,” said Xiaowu as he automatically placed Cheng Xiaoxiao into the cage by the wall. Then he glanced at her and got her to face the wall.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t retaliate this time and obediently curled up in the cage and faced the wall and reflected.
She was keenly aware of how important a deceased mother’s belongings were to her child.
It was only right that Chu Yunshen was mad at her.
She could only hope that Chu Yunshen would forgive her after she reflected on her actions.
Although Cheng Xiaoxiao turned to look at Chu Yunshen furtively a few times, he didn’t look at her even until bedtime.
She saw that Chu Yunshen either sat in his chair to read or asked the maid to bring him tea.
His eyes didn’t leave his military book the entire time.
Chu Yunshen tossed the book, ‘Approaches to Cats’, to a corner on the table and didn’t flip through it a single time.
Cheng Xiaoxiao meowed ingratiatingly at Chu Yunshen in a soft tone a few times, but he didn’t look at her either.
She couldn’t help feeling nervous. Was she going to lose his favor because of this episode?
But if she really did, Chu Yunshen probably wouldn’t allow her to stay in the room, right?
So Chu Yunshen was probably angry with her. In that case, it was straightforward enough to coax him. Once his fit of anger had passed, she would act adorable to make him happy, and this would be over.
Something even more serious had her bewildered.
Why did she take human form earlier on?
Cheng Xiaoxiao carefully recalled all the details surrounding her transformation into human form as she lay curled up in the cage.
First, the jade pendant glowed very brightly. Then she felt as though something was pulling her body hard.
So did she transform into a human being because of this jade pendant?
At the thought, Cheng Xiaoxiao immediately touched the jade pendant hanging from her neck with her paw.
She could sense something different about the jade pendant when she touched it and looked at its green glow. It felt like a mobile phone which had gone flat.
What happened to her jade pendant?
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised the jade pendant quizzically and scrutinized it.
But after studying it for a long time, she made no headway.
Other than its loss of luster, everything else seemed normal about it.
Then how could she trigger the jade pendant’s ability to transform her into a human?
Cheng Xiaoxiao carefully recalled the feeling she had prior to the transformation. Oh yes. Before the transformation, she remembered wanting to be human so that she could try on the wedding dress.
So did that mean the jade pendant would only get activated when she desperately wanted human form?
But why did she only stay in human form for barely a minute?
The more she thought, the more unbearably curious Cheng Xiaoxiao felt.
Cheng Xiaoxiao put the jade pendant back on before she turned to look at Chu Yunshen.
She knew she ought to stay put in the cage with Chu Yunshen around. If she activated the jade pendant and transformed into a human now, she didn’t know what to do.
But her desire to become human made her reach her paws out and open the latch on the cage.
As her claws held onto the latch, she secretly observed Chu Yunshen as he sat at his table and read.
DING!
A soft clang came.
The latch on the cage came open.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Chu Yunshen nervously, but he was still reading.
She heaved a sigh of relief before she opened the cage gently. Then she darted out and hid behind the silk gauze which segregated the inner and outer rooms.
She reached her head out and looked to see Chu Yunshen was still reading. He failed to notice that she had escaped the cage.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked through the light silk gauze. Although it could block Chu Yunshen’s view, Cheng Xiaoxiao was still worried.
If she transformed into a human now, she would be stark naked.
Forget it! She couldn’t be bothered with this minor inconvenience.
She wanted to change into a human!
Cheng Xiaoxiao took out the jade pendant immediately. Then she chanted in her heart that she wanted to be human!
She wanted to become human so that she could enjoy hamburgers, chicken drumsticks, spicy crayfish, hotpot, fried chicken wings…
All manner of delicacies swept across her mind one after another, and they smelled absolutely divine!
Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly sensed the jade pendant turning hot once again. She could also feel something pulling her hard. Was it working?
Just as she thought she was on the verge of becoming human, the jade pendant suddenly flashed a few times in her hands. Before Cheng Xiaoxiao could wrap her mind around it, the tugging stopped, and all the light disappeared from the jade pendant.
Change Cheng Xiaoxiao into a human!
The jade pendant suddenly flashed a couple of times and went out.
Cheng Xiaoxiao refused to give up and kept chanting in her heart that she wanted to become human!
Then the jade pendant flickered again.
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised the jade pendant persistently and chanted for it to make her human, but the jade pendant didn’t so much as flicker this time.
She helplessly let go of the jade pendant and let it fall to her chest.
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her head out from behind the silk gauze. She looked at Chu Yunshen as he drank tea and placed the cup on the table. He hadn’t looked away from the book at all.
Then she quietly walked away from the silk gauze and darted back to the cage and shut the cage latch furtively.
She turned around to face the wall and curled up in the cage.
She decided she ought to look for Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang and ask them about the jade pendant.
The human transformation was honestly too much excitement for Cheng Xiaoxiao. Not long after she lay down in the cage, she started to see double, and her eyelids became heavy. Before long, she tilted her head and fell asleep.
Chu Yunshen glanced at the little fellow as she sneaked back into the cage. He just knew she couldn’t stay put in the cage for long. Barely after the punishment began, she snuck out.
After Chu Yunshen retired that night, he closed his eyes and waited for the little fellow to jump into bed.
Then Chu Yunshen gently coughed before he flipped outwards in bed.
His dark eyes opened, and he looked at the little fellow curled up in the cage at the corner of the wall.
After looking at her for some time, Chu Yunshen realized that she was completely motionless. His eyes narrowed as he wondered whether she was asleep.
Chu Yunshen lifted the blanket and walked barefooted to the corner of the wall where the cage was.
He looked down at the lion cat in the cage. The little fellow’s head was facing the wall with the rest of her body curled up into a ball while she was sound asleep.
A ray of cold, calm, and gentle moonlight washed over her like water as it penetrated through the window and quietly scattered all over the cat in the cage, creating a mottled pattern on her white fur.
Chu Yunshen’s eyes turned dark as the sound of her even breathing came to his ear.
Chu Yunshen sighed and bent over to open the cage to carry Cheng Xiaoxiao out.
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly flipped over uneasily in Chu Yunshen’s arms.
Chu Yunshen instantly halted. He looked down at the little fellow in his arms and gently caressed her back.
After the little fellow was sound asleep again, Chu Yunshen carried her and slowly headed to the bed. Then he placed her next to the pillow gently.
Chu Yunshen straightened his body and looked at the white ball of fur on the bed through the soft moonlight.
“Meow.”
Although Cheng Xiaoxiao was sleeping on familiar territory, the usual warmth was missing. She couldn’t help rubbing her head around and seemed to be on the verge of waking up.
Chu Yunshen’s eyes darkened. He gently sighed before he lifted the blanket and climbed into bed to sleep next to Cheng Xiaoxiao.
When Chu Yunshen placed his head adjacent to her soft body, he suddenly felt sleepy. Then the both of them fell into a deep slumber.
The next day, Cheng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes and found herself surprisingly sleeping in bed under the thick blanket.
How did she end up on the bed?
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked around and discovered Chu Yunshen wasn’t in the room.
She jumped off the bed and walked over to the cage, and saw it wide open. Did Chu Yunshen carry her to the bed?
Then Cheng Xiaoxiao shook her head hard in disbelief. That was impossible!
Did she sleepwalk last night?
Mhm, that was highly likely.
She didn’t like sleeping in unfamiliar places. How could she sleep well in the cage?
Cheng Xiaoxiao held the jade pendant on her neck as she chanted in her heart, “Hear my order, jade pendant and open my eyes.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao was in the Netherworld when she opened her eyes.
