Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 39
Chapter 39 An old man loses his son
A jailor suddenly came over and reported to the justice department supervisor as He Deyong attempted to force Chu Yunshen’s hand, “Sir, He Yuanbai is dead!”
Chu Yunshen stopped stroking the cat. He turned to stare sternly at the jailor.
Xiaowu was completely shocked. He ran up to the jailor and pulled him by the collar, and asked, “Didn’t I tell you to watch him carefully? What were you bloody doing?”
“Bai’er! My Bai’er is dead!”
He Deyong trembled. Those people had forsaken his son.
He Deyong’s mind went blank from the shocking news. He staggered and leaned against the table beside him as he pointed at the jailor with his fingers quavering and said, “Lead…lead the way!”
Everyone hurried over to the justice department prison.
“Bai’er!” said He Deyong as people helped him into the prison.
The moment He Yuanbai entered He Yuanbai’s cell, he spotted his son lying stiffly on the ground.
His lips had turned purple while his expression was ferocious and thick foam appeared near his nose and mouth.
“Bai’er!” shouted He Deyong with his eyes bloodshot. His hands kept trembling as they hung on both sides of his body. His son had done so much for that man.
But he shockingly sent someone to poison his son because He Yuanbai was caught, and he didn’t want to be implicated!
He Deyong squatted down. He straightened He Yuanbai’s messy bangs with his hands trembling.
Then he turned to see the white inner robes He Yuanbai was wearing and clenched his fists tightly. Prince Jing didn’t even give his son time to get dressed before arresting him.
He Deyong slowly straightened out He Yuanbai’s clothing and a piece of bloody white cloth appeared when he got to the shirt sleeve.
He Deyong trembled as he unfolded the piece of white cloth. A letter written with blood shockingly appeared before his eyes: I killed her on my own! Don’t drag my father into this!
Bai’er! Bai’er!
He Deyong clenched the letter written in blood and wept.
Although he had four sons, He Yuanbai was his favorite.
After his son died before his time was up, He Deyong instantly felt as though the agony had aged him by several years.
“Minister He,” said Xiaowu, who had been standing behind He Deyong for a long time. He instantly helped to support He Deyong the moment he passed out and conveniently took the piece of cloth from his hands. Then he instructed some jailors to help Minister He out.
He walked up to Chu Yunshen and said as he presented the object, “Your Highness, it’s a letter written in blood!”
Chu Yunshen’s eyes turned darker when he opened the letter and saw the words written in blood.
“Then the case is closed,” concluded Chu Yunshen as he handed the blood written letter to Di Yangze beside him.
Di Yangze read its contents and heaved a sigh of relief! Now his son was considered completely innocent.
Chu Yunshen was already nowhere to be seen when Di Yangze looked up from the letter of blood. He hurriedly ran after Chu Yunshen with the letter in hand. His stupid son would have gotten executed if it weren’t for Prince Jing!
“Your Highness!” shouted Di Yangze after he went chasing outside the justice department. Then he bowed and thanked Chu Yunshen, “Thank you for helping to clear my son’s name, Your Highness!”
Chu Yunshen sat down in the horse carriage with the lion cat in his arms. He glanced at Di Yangze indifferently and replied, “I was doing my job, so you don’t have to thank me.”
Then he glanced at Xiaowu, who immediately drew the blinds in the carriage.
“Farewell, Your Highness!” said Di Yangze as he bowed reverently towards Chu Yunshen’s horse carriage as it left.
Chu Yunshen’s horse carriage was nowhere to be seen after he straightened his back.
Perhaps Di Yangze misjudged Prince Jing?
“Sir, why did Prince Jing leave?” asked Qin Cheng from behind suddenly after Di Yangze returned to the justice department and was about to head to his office.
Di Yangze turned to look at Qin Cheng and said threateningly, “From now on, you are not to spy on Prince Jing! Just mind your own business.”
Then Di Yangze entered his office and closed the door behind with a bang leaving Qin Cheng outside.
“Huh?” replied Qin Cheng in surprise as he stood outside the office door.
Was there something wrong with Di Yangze? Didn’t he tell Qin Cheng to spy on Prince Jing? Why did Di Yangze make it sound as though it was Qin Cheng’s idea?
It wasn’t like Qin Cheng had nothing better to do!
Chu Yunshen carried the lion cat and went to the study to work after he returned to the residence.
Xiaowu had taken a sample of the white froth on He Yuanbai’s mouth and headed to Mu Bai’s room with it.
Before long, Xiaowu came knocking on the door and said, “Master.”
Chu Yunshen put down the military book in his hand. He leaned into the chair and stroked the little fellow sleeping in his arms, and said, “Come in.”
“Your Highness, Dr Mu Bai has confirmed that He Yuanbai and Cai Mingkun died from the same poison!” said Xiaowu after he walked in swiftly.
Chu Yunshen pondered deeply and replied after a long time, “Did we learn anything about the oracle bone?”
“The scout hasn’t returned,” replied Xiaowu as he bowed.
The secret guard whom he sent hadn’t come back after such a long time.
Chu Yunshen picked up his teacup and took a sip. Then he set it down and told Xiaowu coldly, “Keep investigating!”
“Yes, Your Highness!” replied Xiaowu as he looked at Prince Jing, who was in deep thought.
…..
“Chirp chirp!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes to see the baby bird jumping around beside her.
She scoured the room to see that Chu Yunshen wasn’t around.
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird pecked Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head gently. Then Cheng Xiaoxiao turned to look at the baby bird and raised her paw to tap its head and said, “Meow meow.”
Who let the baby bird out?
Was it Chu Yunshen?
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird chirped excitedly nonstop.
Cheng Xiaoxiao scratched her ears, which were going deaf from the baby bird’s chirping. She looked helplessly at the baby bird who had been caged for days.
She knew it was particularly thrilled because it got released from the cage today.
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao had gotten caged before, she could empathize.
“Meow.”
Let’s go!
“Meow meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao wanted to take the baby bird out for some fun!
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird jumped onto Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head habitually when she lowered it as though it could understand her.
“Meow.”
Hold on tight!
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised her paw and prodded the baby bird’s head gently.
“Chirp chirp!”
Then the baby bird on her head chirped a couple of times.
Cheng Xiaoxiao lowered her body and leaped out of an open window with a whoosh.
The moment they left the room, Cheng Xiaoxiao brought the baby bird to the kitchen to steal some food.
After having their fill, they ran to the residence’s backyard. Then they messed up the freshly planted tomatoes and charged into the chicken coop to wreak havoc.
Before long, all the servants came out from the kitchen one after another to check out the commotion!
“Oh no! Who did this? I just planted those tomatoes that were sent as tribute from the Western Region!” said a servant as he lay prone on the ground and howled at the tomatoes lying everywhere.
“God! Who let the chickens out?” shouted another servant as he looked at the empty chicken coop and the chickens that were on the loose everywhere. He was going to have a hell of a time catching them.
“Cluck cluck cluck!”
The chickens kept flapping around in the backyard. Some of them even ran into the tomato garden and pecked the tomatoes on the ground.
“Go go go!’
Suddenly, the servant sitting on the ground crying chased the chickens away with a broom.
“Cluck cluck cluck!”
The chickens flapped their wings and flew around in shock and left chicken feathers everywhere.
Meanwhile, the culprit and the baby bird had left the scene of the crime.
On their way back to Chu Yunshen’s room, Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly saw two maids walking towards them with a tea sets.
She darted behind the pillar and hid.
“Have you heard? His Highness cracked a big case recently.”
“Yes! Everyone in the capital knows about it! They say that His Highness was a master detective for nabbing the true culprit so quickly. Also, the murderer killed himself out of guilt right away!”
“Mhm mhm! His Highness is so brilliant! I also heard that Her Majesty asked His Majesty for permission to organize a banquet for His Highness’ win and to welcome him home! It will take place on 20th March.”
“Hmm? It’s already 10th March, so we have to start preparing His Highness’s official robes.”
“Yes, exactly!”
After the maids’ voices went further and further, Cheng Xiaoxiao craned her neck from behind the pillar. A victory banquet?
Then there must be plenty of good food!
Cheng Xiaoxiao continued heading towards Chu Yunshen’s room as she contemplated. A few steps later, she suddenly heard a woman crying at a pavilion up ahead.
“Why can’t I find my hairpin? Boohoo! Why can’t I find it?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao went back behind the pavilion curiously. She shrank her head and hid on a rock. Then she pricked her ears to listen to the three people standing at the pavilion.
There were an older lady and two young maids.
The older lady’s face was as pale as a sheet of paper. She stood next to the crying maid and kept raising and lowering her hand but didn’t manage to touch the maid’s face.
The other maid kept comforting the crying maid, “Lan, don’t cry. I’ll help you look for it too. Maybe we’ll find it in the end?”
“Boohoo…There’s no way we can find it! I already checked the place carefully several times! I couldn’t find anything!”
“Silly child. The hairpin loosened and fell in the grass next to the well when you went to collect water previously,” said the old lady nonstop as she gestured.
But the other maid kept comforting Lan. Neither of them reacted to the old lady’s words as though they didn’t hear her at all.
No, they couldn’t hear the old lady.
Cheng Xiaoxiao detected something different about the old lady.
She closed her eyes and chanted in her heart, “Hear my order, jade pendant and open my eyes.”
When Cheng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes, the old lady standing by the pavilion seemed normal. Other than her translucent body and the rotting flesh on her chest with streaks of blood on it.
It seemed this old lady passed away due to lung cancer.
“Enough. Lan, we came out for a long time. If we don’t go back, the steward is going to punish us.”
“Boohoo… My… my hairpin! My mother gave it to me! I always wear it!”
“Lan’er! The hairpin is by the grass next to the well! Lan’er, don’t go! Lan’er!” shouted the old lady as she ran after them and kept talking to the crying maid.
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as the mother kept chasing clumsily after her daughter. Then her eyes misted over.
Her mother?
Did Cheng Xiaoxiao’s mother once watch over her like the maid’s mother too?
“Meow.”
With the thought in her mind, Cheng Xiaoxiao had already come out from behind the rock and darted towards the maids.
“Hey! Where did this cat come from?”
The maids got a shock when the cat suddenly ran over. After they calmed down, they were surprised to see how familiar the cat looked. The maid instantly shouted to Lan, who was still crying, “Lan, this looks like His Highness’s beloved pet!”
“Hmm?” asked Lan as she wiped her tears. She looked at the lion cat all teary-eyed and continued, “I think it’s her. What’s His Highness’ cat doing here? Hurry up and bring it back!”
Then the maid bent over to pick up the cat.
But Cheng Xiaoxiao darted several meters away with the baby bird on her head.
“Chirp chirp!”
The baby bird kept jumping happily on Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head.
