Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 32
Chapter 32: Won’t it be better if she lived a few more years without knowing?
Chu Yunshen handed Yueying to the servant beside him after he got back to his residence. Then he strode to Mu Bai’s room with Cheng Xiaoxiao in his arms.
BAM!
Chu Yunshen kicked the door open.
“Hurry up, Mu Bai!”
Mu Bai looked up from the study table in surprise as he asked, “Your Highness?”
He put down the medical books he was reading and instantly retrieved his medical kit and got up from the table as he asked, “Did the little fellow get hurt?”
Mu Bai glanced at the arrow wound on the lion cat’s paw and quickly retrieved Jinchuang medication from his medical kit. Then he asked Chu Yunshen worriedly as he applied the medication on the cat, “An arrow wound? Your Highness, did someone assassinate you? Are you hurt?”
Chu Yunshen coldly smiled as he said, “All I did was investigate their correspondence to get them so worked up that they keep plotting against me!”
“Your Highness, why don’t you hand Cai Mingkun’s case over to the justice department?” suggested Mu Bai worriedly as he attended to the cat’s injury, “I’m afraid…”
Then Xiaowu walked in limping towards Chu Yunshen to report, “Master!”
The punishment officer sure didn’t go easy with the 20 paddles, so Xiaowu almost couldn’t walk after being punished.
Chu Yunshen replied without looking back, “Come in.”
Xiaowu swallowed the pain as he limped in when he heard the order.
“What?”
Chu Yunshen kept looking at the lion cat as he said to Xiaowu.
Xiaowu stopped staring at the lion cat’s paw and knelt to say, “Master, we caught the assassin!”
Chu Yunshen turned to look at Xiaowu and said, “Interrogate him!”
“Yes, Master!” replied Xiaowu before getting up to leave.
“Wait!” shouted Chu Yunshen to Xiaowu. Then he removed the oracle bones he discovered in Luohun Forest from his chest and handed it to Xiaowu as he continued, “Investigate it.”
“Yes, Master!”
Xiaowu quickly took the oracle bone from Chu Yunshen. When his eyes landed on the pattern engraved on the oracle bone, he instantly paused. The engraving was exactly the same as the ones found on the sacrificial altar in Huangquan Forest!
Xiaowu immediately hobbled out of the room.
“Your Highness, I’ve finished bandaging her.”
Mu Bai stuffed the lion cat back into Chu Yunshen’s arms. He looked at Chu Yunshen and wanted to finish their earlier conversation, but Chu Yunshen glanced at him after taking the lion cat from him.
Mu Bai instantly knew that Chu Yunshen didn’t want to continue with the conversation.
“Farewell, Your Highness,” said Mu Bai as he bowed at Chu Yunshen, who had walked up to the door.
Mu Bai packed up his medical kit after Chu Yunshen disappeared. Then he sat back at his desk to read his medical books.
Mu Bai knew Chu Yunshen’s temperament well. Prince Jing wasn’t about to change his mind so easily.
But many people were probably involved with the case, so the more Prince Jing investigated, the more people he would end up offending.
The mere thought made it impossible for Mu Bai to focus on his reading.
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao swiftly snuggled into Chu Yunshen’s embrace. Chu Yunshen kept staring at her so hard ever since they left Mu Bai’s room that she was starting to feel shy.
“Meow.”
Stop staring.
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her tiny head out and looked at Chu Yunshen and meowed gently.
“Does it still hurt?”
Chu Yunshen looked at the little fellow in his arms and stroked her injured pawed gently.
“Meow.”
It hurt!
It hurt like hell!
Cheng Xiaoxiao nodded hard.
“Then why did you save me?” asked Chu Yunshen as he tightened his embrace around the lion cat.
“Meow.”
Because she wanted to.
Cheng Xiaoxiao stared at Chu Yunshen with her bright eyes.
“I won’t punish you this time on account of your injury.”
Then Chu Yunshen tightened his hands on the lion cat, “If you dare to run off again, I won’t let you off.”
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao had given up the chance to reincarnate to save him!
How dare he punish Cheng Xiaoxiao?
Chu Yunshen was an ingrate!
The fur on her back instantly exploded.
“Heavens!”
Chu Yunshen smoothened the lion cat’s fur as he pointed at her bandaged paw, “When can I stop worrying about you?”
“Meow!” hissed Cheng Xiaoxiao unhappily. How could Chu Yunshen treat his savior like this?
Chu Yunshen couldn’t help curving his lips into a smile as he gazed at the angry cat in his arms.
His big hands hugged the furry cat firmly as he said, “I have to punish you even if you don’t like it.”
“Meow.”
Go on and punish her then!
She was simply upset!
Cheng Xiaoxiao bared her sharp teeth as she glared at him.
“Hehe!” laughed Chu Yunshen suddenly as he rubbed the lion cat’s head firmly.
His heart felt so itchy that it seemed as though ants were gnawing it when his eyes landed on her angry contrasting eyes.
Chu Yunshen placed Cheng Xiaoxiao back on the bed and covered her with the blanket before he said, “Stay put and recuperate. Or else, I will do as I promised.”
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao knew he was talking about punishing her if she ran around, she immediately shrunk under the blanket and ignored him.
That ingrate!
Chu Yunshen lifted the blanket, so her head wouldn’t get covered. Then he tucked her in before heading to the study.
The moment Chu Yunshen left the room, Cheng Xiaoxiao climbed out from the blanket.
The door was tightly closed, and she and the caged baby bird remained in the room.
She immediately took out her jade pendant and closed her eyes, and chanted, “Hear my order, jade pendant and open my eyes.”
When she opened her eyes, an image of the Netherworld appeared before her.
“Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang!” shouted Cheng Xiaoxiao warily at the black and white silhouettes sitting behind the office desks.
Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang raised their heads to look at her without saying a word.
“Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang, when can I get reincarnated?” asked Cheng Xiaoxiao as she smiled.
Hei Wuchang and Bai Wuchang made eye contact before whispering to each other. Then Hei Wuchang sat up straight as he glanced at Cheng Xiaoxiao outside the jade pendant and shook his head.
“What do you mean by shaking your head?” asked Cheng Xiaoxiao nervously. She ran off urgently to save Prince Jing without any understanding of the consequences.
“We don’t know either,” replied Hei Wuchang to Cheng Xiaoxiao who was outside the jade pendant as he shook his head and read a document., “It’s different this time. You were the one who wanted to give up reincarnation, so it might take 10 or 20 years before you can get reincarnated. We don’t know how long it will take until we receive the orders from our higher-ups.”
“What about a normal human reincarnation? I’m happy so long as it’s human!” said Cheng Xiaoxiao. She didn’t want to remain a cat for 10 to 20 years for the sake of a good next life.
Moreover, she didn’t know how much longer this cat could live for.
“I was talking about a regular human reincarnation,” replied Hei Wuchang as he looked up at Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Cheng Xiaoxiao grip on the jade pendant loosened, and it fell to the ground with a crisp clang.
She quickly got off the bed to pick up the jade pendant. Then she looked at Bai Wuchang imploringly as he remained silent, and she said, “Help me, Bai Wuchang! Help me!”
Bai Wuchang raised his head from his office desk, which was piled with documents. Then he gave a business like smile and said, “Miss Xiaoxiao, calm down. Why don’t you stay put in the earthly realm? We will notify you once a slot opens up.”
Then the image of the Netherworld vanished with a wave of Bai Wuchang’s hand.
Cheng Xiaoxiao put the jade pendant back on before curling up weakly in bed.
In the Netherworld, Hei Wuchang looked at Bai Wuchang as he pointed at the Book of Life and Death and asked, “Is it a good idea to lie to her? Why didn’t we tell her that Cheng Xiaoxiao ceased to be human in the Book of Life and Death because she gave up her reincarnation slot? She is now completely a cat and will only get reincarnated into an animal in her next life.”
Bai Wuchang turned to look at Hei Wuchang and asked in response, “Do you think she would be happy if she learned the truth?”
Hei Wuchang shook his head.
Bai Wuchang looked in the direction Cheng Xiaoxiao disappeared as he said calmly, “Won’t it be better if she lived a few more years without knowing?”
“That’s true,” replied Hei Wuchang as he nodded in agreement.
“Here you are! I personally made you some milk paste!”
Xiaowu presented the milk paste in his hand ingratiatingly as he looked at Cheng Xiaoxiao play with the baby bird.
“Meow!”
Don’t bother her!
She happened to be upset about her reincarnation.
Cheng Xiaoxiao meowed at Xiaowu angrily before tilting her head up arrogantly. Then she turned her back to Xiaowu and continued playing with the baby bird.
“I have something to ask you,” asked Xiaowu as he squatted in front of the lion cat brazenly. Then he took out the locked cage from behind him.
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s fur instantly stood erect when she saw the cage.
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao hissed viciously at Xiaowu!
He wanted to cage her again!
Xiaowu instantly waved his hand and explained, “You misunderstand. I only wanted to know how you managed to escape from the cage even though it was tightly wrapped with strips of fabric.”
“Xiaowu!” shouted Chu Yunshen suddenly while he was reading in the outer room.
Xiaowu immediately got up and walked to the outer room, where he bowed and replied, “Yes, Master?”
“Didn’t have enough of being punished?”
Chu Yunshen glanced at Xiaowu with his dark eyes. Then Xiaowu knelt and explained, “Master, I only wanted to build a better cage for her!”
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao came out from the inner room too. She ran in front of Xiaowu and bared her claws as she hissed loudly.
“Come over,” said Chu Yunshen as he patted his thigh. Cheng Xiaoxiao retracted her claws before jumping into Chu Yunshen’s embrace.
Chu Yunshen smoothed the lion cat’s fur as he said to Xiaowu coldly, “She doesn’t need a cage.”
“Meow!”
Then Cheng Xiaoxiao immediately nodded to Chu Yunshen eagerly.
Chu Yunshen’s lips curved upwards. Then he stroked the lion cat gently on the head and continued, “Go on and play!”
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao rubbed Chu Yunshen’s chest a couple of times before jumping to the ground. Then she deliberately stepped on Xiaowu’s foot hard with her paw when she walked past him!
Xiaowu swallowed his resentment in silence. He merely watched as the lion cat swaggered into the inner room.
Their captive finally gave up and confessed after two days straight of torture and interrogation.
Xiaowu headed over to the justice department immediately to report it to Chu Yunshen when he got wind.
The moment Xiaowu entered the room, he caught sight of Chu Yunshen reading ‘Approaches To Cats’ as he lounged on the chair and stroked the sleeping lion cat.
Sunlight penetrated through the window and landed on them to leave a thin warm veil of gold light.
Only the sound of Chu Yunshen flipping the book came from the room.
The atmosphere was so tranquil.
Xiaowu couldn’t help halting at the door. When he saw the man and cat sitting so serenely in the room, he didn’t have the heart to disturb the peace.
To be honest, Prince Jing was no longer as severe ever since the cat came, and Xiaowu often caught the prince smiling at the little fellow.
“What?” said Chu Yunshen without looking up from the book to Xiaowu, who stood by the door.
Xiaowu walked into the room immediately. Then he went close to Chu Yunshen and said, “Your Highness, the assassin confessed.”
