Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 27
Chapter 27 A headless corpse case
The moment Cheng Xiaoxiao heard about the head, she got a shock. All her fur exploded, and stood erect instantly.
Chu Yunshen stroked her and smoothened her fur for a while before she finally calmed down.
She had only just heard her name yesterday, but she’s dead today!
Cheng Xiaoxiao thought Miss Gu was brave for eloping with a man for the sake of her love, considering the ancient conservative times they were in.
She was awfully impressed!
She even thought about seeing the young lady when Chu Yunshen found her.
In the end, Xiaowu said Miss Gu was dead, and her head got hacked off and sent to her father!
Which cruel asshole killed her?
“I think it must have something to do with those vile people! I learned that Deputy Minister Gu has been upright all these years, so he offended a lot of officials for refusing to associate with them! Deputy Minister Gu fired many young men from aristocratic families from their jobs a month before Your Highness returned to the capital. Regardless of how those aristocratic families pleaded, Deputy Minister Gu refused to budge.”
Xiaowu updated Chu Yunshen with the findings of his investigations.
Chu Yunshen’s dark eyes flashed emotionally.
It was such a good ploy!
They sent Deputy Minister Gu his daughter’s head after killing her. No one was able to survive after suffering the loss of their beloved daughter and seeing how cruelly she was treated with their own eyes, let alone Deputy Minister Gu, who was over 60 years old.
His wife only conceived their daughter when he was rather old.
But she ended suffering such a cruel end.
“And what about the scholar?” asked Chu Yunshen slowly after sipping tea.
“Master, the scholar lied to Gu Bixuan about his identity. I sent men to check on the scholar’s identity based on his claims, and the scouts say that the scholar he was impersonating never left his village. The so-called scholar whom Gu Bixuan eloped with is actually an assassin! After her death, he disappeared into thin air. It was a premeditated murder.”
A storm surged in Chu Yunshen’s dark eyes. He kept stroking the little fellow in his arms as she seemed startled. It appeared as though she could understand what Xiaowu said. And the moment she heard about Gu Bixuan’s head, her fur swiftly exploded.
“Meow!”
It was despicable!
How could anyone do that?
The assassin was absolutely coldhearted!
After all, Miss Gu wanted to elope with him because she loved him!
Yet he killed her so cruelly!
Chu Yunshen lowered his head and studied the angry cat in his arms.
Was Cheng Xiaoxiao angry?
“Master, the case was handed over to the justice department. Let me go get you all the related documents,” said Xiaowu as he bowed and awaited further instruction from Chu Yunshen.
“Yunshen!”
A woman’s sobbing voice suddenly came from outside. The moment Xiaowu heard it, he went stunned and looked into Chu Yunshen’s eyes. Chu Yunshen held up an exquisite little bowl and held it in front of Cheng Xiaoxiao as he said, “Drink more water.”
“Meow.”
Since the prince had no intention of stopping her, Xiaowu stood motionlessly where he was.
CREAK!
The door opened from outside, and Chu Mengqian entered with a light pink veiled hat in her hand. She wiped tears off her face with a white handkerchief as she walked towards Chu Yunshen. Then she said, “Yunshen, Xuanxuan died! She died such a cruel death!”
She lunged straight into Chu Yunshen’s arms, but Chu Yunshen turned as he held the cat, and Chu Mengqian failed to succeed. Then she shouted, “Yunshen!” Chu Mengqian leaned on the table and gazed at Chu Yunshen as she mincingly said, “I’m very sad now! I wish you would hug me like you did when I was a child.”
“Princess, it’s improper for you to have physical contact with a man. You and His Highness are no longer three year olds,” said Xiaowu as he stood in front of Chu Yunshen. He couldn’t let Princess Qianqian take advantage of His Highness.
“I’m in the middle of a conversation with Yunshen! Who are you to interrupt?” shouted Chu Mengqian as she suddenly straightened her back and pulled Xiaowu by his collar, “Men, drag this slave out and cane him 20 times!”
“Yes, Your Highness!” The servants behind Chu Mengqian surged over to grab Xiaowu.
“Mengqian! This isn’t Prince Gaoyang’s residence!” reprimanded Chu Yunshen sternly.
The servants all stopped and didn’t dare to move.
Chu Mengqian threw down her veiled hat and gazed at Chu Yunshen with her eyes watery as she said, “Yunshen, you changed! You never once shouted at me! Boohoo! I hate you!”
Then Chu Mengqian turned to run out.
“Master, this is…” said Xiaowu worriedly as he looked at Chu Mengqian run out.
“Leave her be,” said Chu Yunshen as he sat back into his chair. He raised his hand to touch the cat, which had shrunk into his embrace the moment Chu Mengqian turned up. Then he said, “It’s okay. She’s gone.”
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her head out and breathed a few times deeply. She almost suffocated to death.
This princess was certainly interesting. She kept intruding on people when they were eating.
Chu Mengqian wasn’t getting any younger but still demanded hugs. Did she know nothing of female restraint? She was the daughter of an eminent family after all!
Cheng Xiaoxiao buried her head into Chu Yunshen’s embrace as she thought.
“Meow.”
She wanted him to hug and console her too.
Chu Yunshen watched as Cheng Xiaoxiao grabbed onto his arm with her paws tightly. A smile surfaced in his eyes. She was fearless when she first scratched Chu Mengqian. Where did it all go?
A dart suddenly flew in from outside and landed on the table in front of Chu Yunshen.
“Master!”
Xiaowu swiftly stood in front of Chu Yunshen. Chu Yunshen pushed him aside and stared at the note on the dart.
“Go after it!” said Chu Yunshen coldly.
“Yes, Master!” replied Xiaowu before he gave chase.
Chu Yunshen pulled out the dart and undid the note. It read: If you don’t locate the rest of Gu Bixuan’s corpse by noon, another body will appear.
Chu Yunshen suddenly held the note tightly. The sender used Chiting paper to write the note.
“Master, I failed you! He escaped!’ said Xiaowu as he came back into the room and knelt before Chu Yunshen.
“Bring the coroner with us when we visit Deputy Minister Gu tomorrow.”
Chu Yunshen teased the cat as he went into the inner room.
“Yes, Your Highness!” replied Xiaowu as he bowed, “Please rest, Your Highness. I will take my leave.”
When Xiaowu shut the doors, he looked inside. Was the prince planning on personally investigating the case?
Chu Yunshen placed Cheng Xiaoxiao on the bed and said, “Go play.”
Then he pulled out a dagger from under the pillow and polished it carefully.
Cheng Xiaoxiao snuggled by the pillow and kept staring at Chu Yunshen as he wiped the exquisite dagger with a white cloth.
He stared deeply at the sharp dagger with his dark eyes as the dagger glinted threateningly.
Something was engraved on the dagger.
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her head out for a closer look, but Chu Yunshen happened to be rubbing the words with his hand.
Cheng Xiaoxiao sensed this dagger meant a lot to Chu Yunshen.
First thing in the morning the next day, Xiaowu stood waiting by the horse carriage with the coroner.
“Master!” said Xiaowu instantly as he walked over when he saw Chu Yunshen walking out with the lion cat in his arms.
“Is the cage ready?” asked Chu Yunshen. He stopped looking at the cat, which was sleeping in his arms, and glanced at Xiaowu.
Xiaowu immediately took out a cat cage painted with gold paint from the horse carriage, “Master, didn’t you say that the little fellow can open the cage on her own? I especially added a gold lock to the cage.”
Chu Yunshen glanced at the shiny gold lock and handed the little fellow to Xiaowu. Then he said, “Place more cotton in the cage.”
“Yes, Master!” said Xiaowu as he nodded and looked at the little fellow who was sleeping soundly in his arms.
Xiaowu couldn’t help smiling. The little fellow kept running everywhere all the time to make trouble. Now she wouldn’t be able to run around anymore.
“What are you laughing about?” asked Chu Yunshen when he spotted Xiaowu laughing sinisterly at the lion cat in his arms. Chu Yunshen couldn’t help frowning. Then he said, “Let’s go.”
“Yes, Master!” said Xiaowu as he quickly ordered someone to add more cotton into the cage before placing the lion cat inside.
When Chu Yunshen’s horse carriage arrived outside Deputy Minister Gu’s residence, they could see white fabric wrapped around its plaque. A long white streamer hung from the door beam while seven feet long and nine-inch wide white fabric hung on both sides of the doorway.
The stone lions at the entrance were also shrouded with white fabric. When they glanced into the huge doorway, they could see white fabric hanging throughout the residence.
A mourning hall was set up right across the main entrance, and a woman could be heard wailing nonstop.
“Xuan’er! My dear, Xuan’er! How am I to live now that you’re gone!
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao was woken by the noise. She flipped over and wanted to yell at them to shut up, but her head bumped onto some pole-shaped things instead.
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao hastily flipped over and jumped up, but the cage ceiling blocked her.
Who put Cheng Xiaoxiao in the cage?
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked around furiously. Then she saw Xiaowu walking towards her as he said, “Little fellow? Are you finally up?”
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared angrily at Xiaowu as she hissed. Then she kept clawing the cotton until it got everywhere.
“Meow!”
“Behave! It’s a funeral, so His Highness couldn’t bring you with him. Be good and stay in the horse carriage,” said Xiaowu as he patted the top of her cage before putting down the blinds.
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as Chu Yunshen’s tall and upright silhouette disappeared out of sight.
“Meow!” Let her out!
Cheng Xiaoxiao smashed the gold lock on the cage with her paws. It was so painful!
Damn t! It must have been that stupid Xiaowu’s idea!
When Cheng Xiaoxiao got out, she was going to scratch him to death!
“Your Highness,” greeted Gu Ruoshan. The moment Chu Yunshen entered the main hall, someone helped Gu Ruoshan over. He continued, “Your Highness, forgive me for not welcoming you at the door.” Then he knelt before Chu Yunshen.
“Sir Gu, my deepest condolences,” said Chu Yunshen. He strode over to Gu Ruoshan and reached his hand out to help the deputy minister of the personnel ministry up. He had aged a lot. Then Chu Yunshen hung his head to look at his dry and thin hand and couldn’t help saying, “I will find the murderer and redress Miss Gu’s grievance.”
“Thank you, Your Highness,” replied Gu Ruoshan. Then just as he was about to kneel again, Chu Yunshen held his shivering hand and helped him up and said, “Sir Gu, spare the formalities. It is the least I can do.”
It was Gu Ruoshan’s first time taking such a close look at Prince Jing.
As a court official, Gu Ruoshan was always upright and never stooped to flattery. He always remained neutral and didn’t take sides.
He only knew of his bravery at war, that he coveted greatness and success and was a violent man.
But Prince Jing visited him to offer his condolences and even promised to apprehend the culprit who murdered his daughter, so he stopped feeling biased about him.
The young man before him had an extraordinary demeanor and appeared tall and heroic. Although he was only 17 years old, the sharp and deep eyes looking at him were filled with perseverance.
It seemed Gu Ruoshan was wrong about him.
