Chapter 171 Why don’t we make the lion cat disappear?
Xiao Yue wanted to reach her hands out to comfort Wan Xia, but she was afraid of disturbing Wan Xia and didn’t know what to say.
“It’s fine. I can wait.”
Wan Xia moved and sat on the ground. She spoke listlessly and sounded stifled with her face buried in her arms.
“Wait? For how long?”
The moment Xiao Yue finish her sentence, she wanted to give herself two tight slaps. Wasn’t she implying that Chu Yunshen would never fall for Wan Xia?
She kept slipping up with her words, so she could only shut up sheepishly.
“That’s right. When will my dreams come true?… After all, they are always together…”
Wan Xia laughed powerlessly. Xiao Yue was unable to tell if Wan Xia was laughing or being sad. However, she promptly caught on to the crux of what Wan Xia had just said.
Xiao Yue’s heart palpitated excitedly as a bold idea rose in her mind.
“Miss Wan Xia, what if the lion cat was gone?”
Wan Xia hastily raised her head and looked at Xiao Yue in shock. She seemed to find Xiao Yue’s suggestion inconceivable.
“I mean it. What if the lion cat disappeared for good?”
A crazy thought emerged in Xiao Yue’s mind as she bent over and looked at Wan Xia seriously as she spoke.
“Xiao… Xiao Yue, how could you say that? Why would the lion suddenly disappear?”
Wan Xia seemed startled by Xiao Yue’s proposal. She nervously veered her eyes from Xiao Yue. Wan Xia looked evasive as she turned her head to the side and stammered.
“Stop saying that… This is no joke. It’s not funny at all…”
“I am serious! Miss Wan Xia, just think about it. You fainted and hurt your ankle yesterday. His Highness should have come over to check on you, but he didn’t!”
It was impossible to miss the resentment in Xiao Yue’s eyes. She held Wan Xia’s shoulder and forced Wan Xia to make eye contact with her.
“Miss Wan Xia, don’t you know why His Highness didn’t visit? It was because the lion cat also fainted!”
Wan Xia looked absolutely miserable as she frowned with a vulnerable look on her face. Xiao Yue couldn’t bear seeing her suffer.
Xiao Yue thought about how heartless Chu Yunshen was, so she gritted her teeth and spoke her mind, “Miss Wan Xia, stop lying to yourself. The lion cat is a pure ingrate. No matter how well you treated her, she kept getting in between you and His Highness! She should have died ages ago!”
“Stop it! I don’t want to hear any of this!”
Wan Xia pushed Xiao Yue aside and covered her ears as though she could not bear hearing what Xiao Yue had said.
“Miss Wan Xia!”
Xiao Yue wanted to pull Wan Xia’s hands so that Wan Xia could hear what she was saying. She was afraid of hurting Wan Xia, so she felt hesitant about doing it.
After Wan Xia had calmed down, she stopped covering her ears and looked at Xiao Yue desperately.
“Xiao Yue, isn’t there some other better way to get his attention?”
Xiao Yue looked at Wan Xia at a loss. She was just talking randomly earlier. Now that Wan Xia was asking for an alternative, she could not come up with anything else.
Wan Xia seemed to feel it was inappropriate of her to ask Xiao Yue this question, so she lowered her head. From this angle, Xiao Yue could only see Wan Xia’s flawless neck.
“Xiao Yue, if I can spend some time alone with His Highness, maybe he will fall for me.”
The two of them quietly stayed in this position for some time until Wan Xia suddenly raised her head and looked at Xiao Yue with determination. Her dark eyes were now gleaming and she looked radiant.
“In the past, His Highness didn’t have the chance to get to know me, but things are different now. If I work hard and spend more time with him, I am sure it is just a matter of time when he accepts me.”
Wan Xia’s eyes were teary and she resembled an adorable fragile little animal.
She seemed so hopeful that Xiao Yue didn’t have the heart to disappoint her.
“That is the only way you can get to spend some time with His Highness alone.”
A thought crossed Wan Xia’s mind before her eyes quickly turned dark and hopeless.
She was afraid Xiao Yue would do something stupid, so she urged Xiao Yue, “Don’t ever bring this up again. I will never agree to make the lion cat disappear forever!”
Xiao Yue frowned and smiled bitterly. She knew Wan Xia was a kind soul, but now was not the time to think about the lion cat. Why did Wan Xia have to be so hard on herself?
“I’ve got it!”
Since Xiao Yue wasn’t stupid, she caught on to something Wan Xia mentioned earlier. Xiao Yue felt proud of herself for finally being able to help Wan Xia.
“If you don’t want the lion cat to disappear forever, what if she only disappeared for a while? You can have the time to talk about poetry and life with His Highness while the lion cat is gone. Do you think that would help?”
Xiao Yue almost wanted to applaud herself. She was such a genius for coming up with this plan.
“Disappear temporarily?”
Wan Xia quizzically repeated Xiao Yue’s words before she caught on to what she meant and beamed so brightly that her dimples showed.
“Do you mean we should take the lion cat somewhere else to play and distract her a little?”
Xiao Yue simply came up with a rough idea of what to do and had yet to come up with exactly how to make it happen.
Wan Xia’s words promptly enlightened Xiao Yue, so she said excitedly, “Oh yes! I can help you distract the lion cat. Then you can spend some time alone with His Highness.”
“Are you sure that is a good idea? The lion cat is very smart, so I doubt she will fall for it.”
Wan Xia sounded hesitant and was in a dilemma.
“What’s wrong with it? Since the lion cat is greedy, I will distract her with some food. I won’t hurt her either.”
Xiao Yue was on a roll now that she was enlightened and even came up with the actual plan.
“Do you mean it?”
Wan Xia looked at Xiao Yue quizzically in slight disbelief for some time.
“Miss Wan Xia, don’t you trust me? I will never betray you!”
Xiao Yue swore to Wan Xia confidently and even patted her chest loudly.
“Enough, you silly lass. Of course, I trust you.”
Wan Xia was tickled by Xiao Yue’s gestures, so she covered her mouth and her crescent-shaped eyes were smiley.
Perhaps owing to all this excitement, Wan Xia’s gorgeous face was now slightly pink and looked far better than before when she was pale.
Xiao Yue felt mesmerized by Wan Xia’s beauty. She muttered, “Miss Wan, you are so pretty! You are the most beautiful woman on earth. If you ask me, His Highness isn’t good enough for you.”
“Don’t be silly.”
Wan Xia acted angry and reached her hand out to hit Xiao Yue.
Xiao Yue did not evade Wan Xia and simply smiled as she stood where she was and looked at Wan Xia.
Wan Xia simply pushed Xiao Yue gently when her hand reached Xiao Yue. “Pull me up. My legs are numb.”
“Yes, Miss Wan Xia.”
Since Wan Xia didn’t hit Xiao Yue, Xiao Yue happily went up to Wan Xia and helped her up. The two of them bantered happily as they went back into the room.
The strange cold wind in the quarters kept blowing around in search of something and kept circling around in the yard. The moment it inadvertently touched a ray of sunlight, it dissipated a lot.
The small wind quickly went to a dark corner before he slowly gathered again.
Everything happened swiftly without a sound.
No one was around to see it, so no one knew of its existence.
Meanwhile, inside Chu Yunshen’s room.
“Your Highness.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao was curling up under the blanket thinking about Wan Xia when she suddenly heard Wan Xia’s voice.
She charged right out!
A snow-white silhouette darted out at the speed of lightning before she promptly hung onto Wan Xia.
It was the lion cat with contrasting eyes.
The lion cat anxiously sniffed as though she was seeing Wan Xia for the first time.
“Have you forgotten me after just one day?”
Wan Xia embraced the lion cat and touched her damp nose as she teased the lion cat.
Cheng Xiaoxiao simply wanted to check on Wan Xia’s physical condition, but she unexpectedly instinctively behaved like a lion cat and smelled Wan Xia thoroughly.
It was simply embarrassing!
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt completely mortified when she realized she was acting like a lion cat.
She was a grown-up. How could she do something as stupid as that?
This won’t do. After she regained her human form, she could not let anyone learn of this. Otherwise, Cheng Xiaoxiao would be so embarrassed that she would want to die there and then again.
Fortunately, Wan Xia did not continue teasing her. Instead, she carried her to the table and turned to retrieve the food container.
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as Wan Xia presented the food and felt she was full of life.
Wan Xia genuinely looked a lot healthier and seemed energetic.
Her long silky dark hair fell from her shoulders like a waterfall and her long slender eyebrows and beautiful eyes looked particularly mesmerizing.
She had a petite nose, her cheeks were pink and her lips were red even without wearing any rouge on them.
Her skin was fair and flawless while her small face looked cute and shy. She was the perfect example of what poets meant when they described a woman’s beauty when they lowered their heads shyly.
Why did it seem as though there was something different about Wan Xia?
She seemed even more beautiful than before.
Cheng Xiaoxiao sat on the table as she looked at Wan Xia and was completely enraptured. She kept her eyes on Wan Xia’s every movement.
There was osmanthus cake on the first tray. After placing it on the table, Wan Xia opened the second tray.
This time, it wasn’t chicken soup. Instead, the fragrant scent of pork bone soup could be smelled in the air.
Since she had spent a lot of time cooking the bone soup, it was as white as milk with a dash of chives garnishing it.
The chives floating on top of the soup looked even brighter and greener thanks to the oil. The scent of the pork bone and chives whetted Cheng Xiaoxiao’s appetite.
Wan Xia seemed to read the lion cat’s mind. She turned her head sideways and came close to the lion cat and said softly, “You can’t eat it. I think there is probably salt in the soup. I will make you some without soup next time.”
Despite her beauty, Wan Xia ruthlessly denied Cheng Xiaoxiao of pork bone soup.
What did she mean by probably?
Wan Xia had brought the soup over for Chu Yunshen even though she wasn’t sure if it contained salt.
Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly realized that Wang Qingqing must be behind this again.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Wan Xia miserably and attempted to gain her pity by acting cute. She wanted to find out how Wang Qingqing’s cooking was. Was it that good? Why did Wang Qingqing keep making trouble all the time?
Since Wan Xia had spent a lot of time with the lion cat, she had a degree of immunity against the lion cat’s actions.
“No, you can’t have it! Why don’t you eat your osmanthus cake and be good?”
Wan Xia rubbed the lion cat’s furry head before bringing the soup to Chu Yunshen.
Chu Yunshen picked up the ball without hesitation and cooled it before putting it in his mouth.
Their movement was so seamless that it felt as though they were a married couple who knew each other well.
