Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 17
Chapter 17 Wu’s sacrificial altar
“Meow!”
The moment she found the right opportunity, she hastily leaped from Chu Yunshen’s arms and onto the ground. That sacrificial altar must have caused all these zombies to appear. If they destroyed the sacrificial altar, then these zombies would be like unstrung puppets and incapable of doing a thing.
Cheng Xiaoxiao already checked the path to the sacrificial altar and found out where the zombies were located and which way they could go.
Now she just had to bring Chu Yunshen and the others there.
After all, she was only a cat now, so she still needed their help for some things.
“Meow!”
So she deliberately darted out from between Xiaowu’s legs. Xiaowu was instantly startled and shouted, “Oh dear, this is no place for you to play.”
Then Xiaowu reached out to see that the kitten was sitting on a rock outside the cave and meowing at him nonstop.
“Master, I think she wants to take us somewhere,” said Xiaowu as he turned to tell Chu Yunshen, who was already standing outside the cave, “Allow me to check it out,”
“Wait,” said Chu Yunshen as he raised his hand to stop Xiaowu. Then he turned to the village chief behind him and said, “Let’s go together.”
Chu Yunshen and the others followed behind Cheng Xiaoxiao without encountering any zombies.
Until…
“Master, look!” said Xiaowu to Chu Yunshen as he pointed at the high ground, “It looks there’s a sacrificial altar there.
“It didn’t use to exist.”
The old village chief stared fixedly for a while before saying confidently again, “No, that used to be empty land. I used to lie there often to enjoy the sun when I was a kid!”
Chu Yunshen’s eyes turned dark. Then he glanced at Xiaowu. Xiaowu made obeisance and said, “Master, allow me to go up for a look.”
“Be careful,” said Chu Yunshen as he nodded.
Cheng Xiaoxiao followed behind Xiaowu and went to the sacrificial altar.
Shortly after arriving at the sacrificial altar, a stench came wafting towards Cheng Xiaoxiao. What was this putrid smell?
Cheng Xiaoxiao followed behind Xiaowu and went towards a dark cave. The smell was coming from this pitch-black pit.
What could be in the pit?
Cheng Xiaoxiao closed her eyes and chanted in her heart, “Hear my order, jade pendant and open my eyes.” When she opened her eyes again and looked inside the pit, she was so terrified that she almost fell into the pit.
“Be careful, little fellow!” said Xiaowu suddenly as he pulled Cheng Xiaoxiao into his arms. Then Xiaowu’s voice came overhead, “If you fall in, you’re done for!”
“Meow.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Xiaowu gratefully.
Countless hearts were hanging in the pit while a green thread was tied to each of them. Cheng Xiaoxiao looked into the distance and saw that rotting zombies were tied to the other ends of the green thread.
It appeared like the sacrificial altar was used to control those zombies.
“Master,” said Xiaowu. After investigating the sacrificial altar with Cheng Xiaoxiao in his arms, he came back down. Then he placed Cheng Xiaoxiao in Chu Yunshen’s arms and said, “All the sacrificial vessels used don’t look local. Their placement also resembled a kind of sacrifice that originated from Wu intended for making the living dead.”
“It’s Wu again!” said Chu Yunshen viciously with his eyes narrowed, “Smash this place up!”
“Yes, Master!” replied Xiaowu before returning to the sacrificial altar and sweeping all the sacrificial vessels onto the ground with his sword.
CLANG!
A sacrificial vessel flew from the altar and landed near Chu Yunshen.
In an instant, Cheng Xiaoxiao felt the jade pendant on her neck turn slightly hot.
Cheng Xiaoxiao closed her eyes and chanted, “Hear my order, jade pendant and open my eyes.”
The skies were sunny, so the moment Cheng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes again, the miasma which had hovered over Huangquan Forest for a long time seemed to get injected with new life. The bloodstained sacrificial altar also looked less horrifying.
Huangquan Forest became much brighter.
Cheng Xiaoxiao heaved a sigh of relief. She glanced towards the forest where zombies gathered. Sunlight was seeping through the forest canopy onto the rotting corpses. Then translucent spirits floated from those dead bodies towards her.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was so startled that she closed her eyes. But nothing happened after a long time, so she tried to open her eyes again. She discovered that those spirits merely got sucked into the jade pendant. As more spirits got sucked into the jade pendant, it became even more transparent.
Cheng Xiaoxiao couldn’t help sighing when she saw the wandering spirits entering the jade pendant one after another.
So this was what Bai Wuchang meant when he said she had to dispel their persistence to roam the earth. These people died for no good reason and were trapped in this forest by means of an evil sacrifice, but now they could finally reincarnate.
“Who goes there!”
Xiaowu stood on the sacrificial altar with his back straightened as he stared at a corner on the altar. Then he shouted, “Come out!”
The object hiding there merely moved a little without coming out.
Xiaowu immediately became somewhat nervous, so he raised his sword and walked over to the sacrificial altar. Then he spotted a little girl about three years old who was shrinking into the corner as she shivered.
“Xiao Hua?” asked Xiaowu quizzically.
“How do you know who I am?”
The little girl raised her head and looked at Xiaowu meekly.
“Here, come up,” said Xiaowu as he reached his hand out towards the little girl. But the little girl shook her head and shrunk even closer against the wall as she said, “Mom said not to talk to strangers.”
Xiaowu looked at the girl helplessly. Then he turned to tell Chu Yunshen, “Your Highness, I found Xiao Hua!”
When the village chief heard, he instantly climbed up the sacrificial altar and shouted, “Xiao Hua!”
“Grandpa Village Chief!”
The familiar voice made Xiao Hua instantly stick her head out. It really was the old village chief, so she immediately ran out of the sacrificial altar. Then she ran towards the village chief as she shouted, “I’m so scared. So many bad uncles are trying to eat me!”
“Xiao Hua, why did you come here?”
The village chief removed the leaves on Xiao Hua’s head and straightened out her hair.
“I miss Dad. Mom said Dad was at Huangquan Forest, but she didn’t want me to go looking for him.”
Xiao Hua pouted her lips and seemed angry.
“So you disobeyed your mother and came here?” said the village chief disappointedly as he slapped Xiao Hua’s head. If it weren’t for Xiao Hua, they wouldn’t have entered such a dangerous place.
“OW! That hurts, Grandpa Village Chief!” retorted Xiao Hua with tears welling in her eyes as she covered her head.
The village chief sighed. Then he rubbed Xiao Hua’s head gently as he said affectionately, “Listen to your mother in the future.”
He brought Xiao Hua over to Chu Yunshen to thank him, “Quickly Xiao Hua, you have to thank His Highness for saving you!”
“Thank you for saving me, Your Highness!” said Xiao Hua as she made a passable bow to Chu Yunshen. Then she knelt and kowtowed several times before looking innocently at him to say childishly, “Your Highness if you could save me, can you save my Dad too?”
“Your Highness, please forgive her for speaking rashly!” said the village chief as he immediately covered Xiao Hua’s mouth so that she couldn’t speak anymore.
“Go on!” said Chu Yunshen as he shook his head to indicate it was fine.
Then Cheng Xiaoxiao stared hard at Xiao Hua from behind while she was in Chu Yunshen’s arms.
There was a nine feet tall man who resembled a pillar standing behind Xiao Hua. There were tears in his eyes as he raised his hand slowly to touch Xiao Hua’s head continuously.
The man must be Xiao Hua’s father.
Xiao Hua pulled the village chief’s hand from her face as she implored him nonstop to get Prince Jing to find her father.
If she knew the father she had been pining for all this time was standing right behind her and touching her head, she would be delighted.
“Thank you,” said Da Zhu as he went up before Cheng Xiaoxiao’s jade pendant, “Thank you for coming to save her.”
When Da Zhu wanted to send Xiao Hua out of the forest, zombies suddenly tracked her down. He saw a kitten running towards her daughter while he diverted the zombies.
“You’re welcome!”
Then Cheng Xiaoxiao discovered that she could actually converse with ghosts.
Da Zhu smiled. Then he gazed at Xiao Hua one last time before he entered the jade pendant.
After tearing the sacrificial altar apart, Xiaowu went up before Chu Yunshen. Then he bowed and said, “Master, the sacrificial altar is destroyed.
“Let’s go to Changshao County!”
Chu Yunshen tightened his grip on the kitten as he watched the miasma dissipate. He glanced at the ruined sacrificial altar. Who would dare to build a sacrificial altar in this territory without the support of its local officials?
After leaving Huangquan Forest, they spotted Mu Bai, who was standing guard outside. He hurriedly ran towards them with one hand holding his headdress and the other carrying his medical kit.
“Your Highness, let me take a look!” said Mu Bai. The moment he noticed that the six guards who went in with the prince didn’t make it back out, he was immediately shocked to see how unsafe the forest was.
Mu Bai swiftly checked Chu Yunshen for injuries. Other than a few scraps he got from some tree branches, he was completely fine.
Mu Bai removed a bottle of medication and bandages from his medical kit. Then he teased Chu Yunshen while he bandaged his scratches, “Your Highness, you would rather enter Huangquan Forest with a cat than me, but you used to take me everywhere you went!”
Chu Yunshen stopped touching the kitten. Then he lifted a brow as he asked Mu Bai, “Can you climb trees like a cat?”
“Climb treeeees?” replied Mu Bai as he dragged his last note for a long time. He wrapped the bandage one final time. Then he looked at Chu Yunshen solemnly and said, “Well, I can always learn.”
Mu Bai’s seriousness made Chu Yunshen speechless. Then Chu Yunshen replied, “Fine.”
Chu Yunshen nodded before looking at Xiao Hua, who was leaning closely into her mother’s embrace.
“Come here.”
Then Xiao Hua’s mother finally snapped out of the joy of finding her daughter. When she heard the prince asking for Xiao Hua, she immediately pulled her daughter over.
“Your Highness was so kind-hearted to help! Allow me to kowtow you for saving Xiao Hua and removing the miasma from Huangquan Forest, Your Highness!”
“Yes, Your Highness is as kind as a Bodhisattva!”
Villagers hurried over when they heard that the prince made it out of the forest. They were delighted to see that the miasma in Huangquan Forest had lifted, and everyone made it out safely.
Everyone knelt in unison to thank him.
Although Chu Yunshen was usually cold, he appeared slightly touched when he saw all the people kneeling before him.
“Mu Bai, check the little girl.”
“Yes, Your Highness!” replied Mu Bai. Then he hurriedly pulled the little girl over to examine.
When Xiao Hua’s mother heard Chu Yunshen ordering his personal physician to examine her daughter, she was so touched that she went speechless. She kowtowed nonstop to Chu Yunshen as she expressed her gratitude, “Thank you, Your Highness! Thank you, Your Highness!”
Xiao Hua looked up at Chu Yunshen innocently. She had only just noticed the kitten in the prince’s arms. Xiao Hua couldn’t help taking a second look before sucking her finger as she said, “Kitty.”
“Don’t be rude, Xiao Hua!” said Xiao Hua’s mother sternly from behind.
Xiao Hua instantly whined childishly, “Mommy, but there’s a kitty.”
“Your Highness, she only suffered a shock and didn’t have any other physical wounds,” reported Mu Bai after he walked up to Chu Yunshen.
“Good,” said Chu Yunshen as he nodded. He turned to glance at Xiaowu, who instantly understood his intentions. Then Xiaowu took a pouch of money from his chest and handed it to Xiao Hua’s mother, “This is from His Highness. Take care.”
“Thank you, Your Highness! Thank you, Your Highness!”
Xiao Hua’s mother instantly pulled her daughter along and kowtowed Chu Yunshen.
