Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 158
Chapter 158 Where was her baby bird?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was too dull-witted to realize what Chu Yunshen was actually thinking. She simply instantly felt invigorated when she assumed they had made up.
She kept twisting around in Chu Yunshen’s arms to get his attention and take advantage of him.
The lion cat’s fur got mussed up as she kept rubbing her head in Chu Yunshen’s chest, but Chu Yunshen had no idea what she was genuinely thinking.
Chu Yunshen simply found her behavior unusual and was unable to get accustomed to her reactions, so he froze without reacting for a while.
The cold atmosphere between them quickly disappeared with their interaction and it gradually became cheerful. However, the beautiful scene was interrupted by the baby bird’s shrill chirping.
“Chirp chirp!”
Couldn’t the baby bird tell she was busy?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was a little annoyed with the baby bird for interrupting when she was busy hitting on the gorgeous Chu Yunshen.
How could the baby bird interrupt her?
Cheng Xiaoxiao craned her body out and wanted to check on the baby bird, but it was surprisingly nowhere to be seen!
However, she clearly heard the baby bird chirping from the table earlier!
Cheng Xiaoxiao was very confident about her sense of hearing since she was a cat and this was her first mistake ever.
She did not get engrossed with the details but simply turned to look at the baby bird’s cage.
It wasn’t there either.
What about under the bed?
What about the windowsill?
Cheng Xiaoxiao kept turning around to check the place and was starting to look like the cute penguin icon on her QQ chat messenger when she first signed on, but the baby bird was nowhere to be found.
Now, Cheng Xiaoxiao was genuinely getting worried.
This had never happened to the baby bird in its life. Since they only had each other, they were never separated before.
The windows and doors were tightly shut. How could the baby bird disappear into thin air?
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t want to stay in Chu Yunshen’s arms anymore. She wanted to check out the place where she found the talisman.
What if the baby bird was just teasing her and hiding somewhere waiting for her to find it?
Cheng Xiaoxiao had yet to realize that things were not as simple as they seemed.
It all started when Cheng Xiaoxiao ignored the baby bird after Chu Yunshen whispered into her ear. Since Cheng Xiaoxiao refused to talk to the baby bird, it went up to the jade box on the table.
It scrutinized the green jade box and tried to touch it with its claw.
Since it did not appear dangerous, the baby bird decided to jump onto the jade box.
The baby bird chirped enthusiastically at Cheng Xiaoxiao the moment a faint green light radiated from the jade box. Unfortunately, it was sucked into the jade box before it was able to make a sound.
The jade box promptly reverted to normal and only the engraving on it seemed a little brighter.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was busy taking advantage of Chu Yunshen as she lay in Chu Yunshen’s arms when the jade box glowed faintly. Chu Yunshen had surprisingly let down his guard, so he didn’t notice anything amiss on the table.
By the time the two of them heard the baby bird chirping, it was too late.
Cheng Xiaoxiao came out from under the bed. The baby bird wasn’t there.
“Meow?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao could only hope the baby bird would answer so that she could establish whether it was still in the room.
Chu Yunshen finally noticed that the baby bird was gone as well, so he checked to see if his secret compartments were intact.
The secret compartments were naturally located in well-concealed places. Also, Chu Yunshen didn’t recall opening them in front of Cheng Xiaoxiao and the baby bird.
He was simply checking to see if the baby bird had inadvertently gotten trapped inside one of them.
It wasn’t inside any of his secret compartments.
Chu Yunshen pondered deeply as he smiled. It was the first time something had disappeared right under his watch.
Fortunately, the baby bird answered Cheng Xiaoxiao’s meowing before long.
However, it still sounded as though it was coming from the table.
“Meow?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao couldn’t believe it and tried calling for the baby bird again.
“Chirp chirp chirp!”
This time, the baby bird sounded even clearer. Cheng Xiaoxiao climbed up to the table and looked around before looking at the jade box.
“Meow!”
“Chirp chirp!”
The sound of the baby bird was clearly coming from inside the jade box!
Cheng Xiaoxiao definitely heard it loud and this time.
What on earth was going on?
This stupid jade box! Was it a glutton in its past life or something? First, it took away her jade pendant, and now it was after the baby bird.
Cheng Xiaoxiao picked up the jade box and scrutinized it. Sure enough, there were no gaps in the box. However, the baby bird had genuinely gotten sucked inside.
Cheng Xiaoxiao recalled seeing the jade pendant inside the jade box when she held it against the light, so she held it against candlelight.
What was going on?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was completely stunned before she shouted, “Meow!”
The baby bird chirped quickly this time.
Its sound was coming straight from the jade box! Why couldn’t she see the baby bird’s silhouette this time? Why could she only hear it?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was so engrossed with finding the baby bird that she forgot Chu Yunshen was still behind her.
She put the jade box down and went into deep thought as Chu Yunshen observed the lion cat carefully.
The moment Chu Yunshen heard the baby bird chirping from inside the jade box, he was shocked. When he saw the lion cat holding up the jade box to examine it through the candlelight like an expert, he frowned.
From the looks of it, the lion cat knew a lot of things.
He had no intention of disturbing the lion cat and simply sat down at the table and wanted to see how the lion cat would deal with this problem.
She was probably terribly worried and might ask him for help.
Chu Yunshen couldn’t help raising his brow thinking about how the lion cat would implore him for help soon and her adorable actions earlier.
However, Chu Yunshen was destined to be disappointed this time.
He didn’t know about all the strange things Cheng Xiaoxiao had encountered ever since she transmigrated into this world. Even though she was genuinely surprised to find the baby bird inside the jade box, she was hardly flustered.
Instead, Cheng Xiaoxiao was in fact relieved.
Now that she knew the baby bird was inside the jade box, she didn’t have to worry about the baby bird going missing.
Also, Cheng Xiaoxiao knew the baby bird well. Judging from the chirping earlier, the baby bird was only anxious initially before it proceeded to sound completely normal as though they were playing a game.
This meant the baby bird was completely safe inside the box and even quite comfortable.
Otherwise, it wouldn’t be chirping to her so casually.
Perhaps the jade box would eventually release it just like it did with her jade pendant. Initially, she had lost her jade pendant, but it eventually appeared on her neck sometime later inexplicably.
Since the baby bird wasn’t in mortal danger, Cheng Xiaoxiao lay prone on the table and waited.
The jade pendant was just an object and didn’t have the same kind of needs as a baby bird. However, the baby bird was a living creature, so it needed air, food, and water to survive.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was terribly worried that the baby bird would end up dying from asphyxiation and hunger before it managed to come out of the jade box.
What could she do about this?
She kept staring at the jade box and really wished staring at the box alone could help to release the baby bird.
Chu Yunshen kept his eyes on Cheng Xiaoxiao as she stared at the jade box.
Since Chu Yunshen said nothing, Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t speak up either.
After some time, Cheng Xiaoxiao finally noticed something amiss.
Oh yes!
She was so worried about finding the baby bird that she forgot about someone.
She was naturally talking about Chu Yunshen.
Chu Yunshen must have probably left by now.
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao felt Chu Yunshen would have probably left and gone back to work by now, she did not expect him to be right behind her
The moment she turned her head, she saw Chu Yunshen staring at her with his dark eyes. Cheng Xiaoxiao was so startled that she almost took a step back.
What was going on?
Had Chu Yunshen been sitting here watching her the entire time?
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt a little flustered. She inhaled deeply a few times before she headed towards Chu Yunshen.
Her mind was in chaos. She was worried about the baby bird and also afraid Chu Yunshen would find out that the baby bird was trapped inside the jade box. At the same time, she couldn’t help feeling nervous when he looked at her intently with his beautiful eyes.
It wasn’t easy to be the queen.
No matter how hard things got, she had to handle them one by one.
Since she was accustomed to being uneasy, she simply suppressed her anxiety.
As for the other matters…
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Chu Yunshen innocently as she attempted to find out how much Chu Yunshen knew. Even if he ended up asking her about it, she could always pretend that she knew nothing.
After Cheng Xiaoxiao had made up her mind, she walked confidently.
She walked up in front of Chu Yunshen and gracefully jumped in a perfect white arc into Chu Yunshen’s embrace.
Cheng Xiaoxiao knew how much Chu Yunshen loved it when she threw herself at him.
Sure enough, Chu Yunshen adjusted her position and made her comfortable before stroking her back gently.
Since the enemy had yet to make his move, she would keep her cool!
Cheng Xiaoxiao was no fool, so she had no intention of bringing up the matter if Chu Yunshen didn’t ask her about it.
She put on an innocent face just like the baby bird and looked at Chu Yunshen confusedly.
“…”
Chu Yunshen went speechless when he picked up on what a quick learner the lion cat was.
Chu Yunshen felt a little powerless. The lion cat finally noticed his presence and came back to him after such a long time. Initially, he expected her to at least make an attempt to explain the situation. However, she simply lay in his arms obediently.
He could sense that the lion cat had secrets and she clearly didn’t want him to know about them.
Chu Yunshen rubbed the lion cat’s tiny little head as he looked at her big bright glistening eyes looking at him before he made up his mind.
Since Chu Yunshen didn’t ask her about the baby bird, did this mean he didn’t know it was inside the jade box?
Cheng Xiaoxiao kept lying to herself.
If he did not know about it, it meant he wouldn’t ask her about it for now.
Now she had to investigate this stupid box!
Cheng Xiaoxiao wished Chu Yunshen could leave now so that she could check on the baby bird and find out how it was doing.
She was terrified that the baby bird might pass out from the lack of oxygen. At the same time, she was afraid Chu Yunshen might take the jade box back for further investigation.
“Chirp chirp!”
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao hadn’t checked on the baby bird for some time, it was probably chirping out of fear.
Oh god!
It sure knew how to pick the time!
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t know what to say. She was genuinely worried that something might have happened to the baby bird.
The lion cat was completely flustered as Chu Yunshen held her, but it seemed as though Chu Yunshen didn’t catch the chirping as he stroked the lion cat’s fur.
“Chirp chirp! Chirp chirp!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t dare to answer the baby bird, so the baby bird cried even more anxiously.
