Chapter 150 Memory of her in high resolution
This time, Xiaowu’s sword aimed straight for Uncle Gen.
Uncle Gen wanted to pull out more talismans. Sadly, Xiaowu didn’t give him the chance.
Xiaowu flicked his wrist gently and Cheng Xiaoxiao instinctively closed her eyes when the gleam from his sword got into her eyes.
After she opened her eyes, Uncle Gen had already fallen to the ground with his eyes opened wide completely bereft of life.
He was like a worn-out snakeskin bag that got discarded on the ground randomly.
Xiaowu rolled his eyes and fell beside Uncle Gen as well.
“Xiaowu!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as Xiaowu fell and couldn’t be bothered with Uncle Gen’s condition.
She ran over to examine Xiaowu immediately.
Fortunately, Xiaowu had merely passed out. His condition was similar to the time when their life energy was absorbed by the formation.
From the looks of it, Xiaowu had completely expended his Yin energy and passed out.
What about Uncle Gen?
Cheng Xiaoxiao finally thought about Uncle Gen after confirming that Xiaowu was still breathing.
Uncle Gen’s entire body convulsed in agony as he coughed lots of blood.
There was a penetrating wound on his chest and his chest was quickly soaked with blood.
Uncle Gen lowered his head as he stared at the hole in his chest. He couldn’t believe that Xiaowu was capable of doing this to him.
His eyes were filled with resentment and fury.
A thought crossed his mind before he suddenly raised his head and struggled to look around the place. He was looking for something, but his head quickly slumped onto his shoulders as he breathed his last breath.
Cheng Xiaoxiao reached her hand out to see if Uncle Gen was still breathing. She finally heaved a sigh of relief and sat on the side when she confirmed he was dead.
It was finally over.
This fierce battle was finally through.
Cheng Xiaoxiao liked the feeling of saving the world quietly and playing hero when no one was watching.
Little did she know, a pair of cool beautiful eyes had witnessed bits and pieces of the fight.
If she knew someone was watching, she would have disregarded Uncle Gen and went on strike.
Of course, this was a story for another time.
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s greatest concern was her jade pendant.
Since Uncle Gen was already dead, there was no one to stop Cheng Xiaoxiao from taking the jade box. Cheng Xiaoxiao walked right over to it and held the jade box with both hands to scrutinize it. The jade box was only slightly bigger than her palm.
There was intricate engraving outside the box. The patterns were so exquisite that every stroke looked completely lifelike. However, she was unable to decipher the pattern.
From the looks of it, it was no ordinary jade.
The exterior of the jade box felt smooth to the touch. It seemed as though someone had taken good care of it for years. Also, it was consistently emerald green.
It made the jade box seem as though it was covered with water, making it bright and smooth.
More importantly, it was free of impurities. Cheng Xiaoxiao reckoned it was top-quality jadeite.
Cheng Xiaoxiao studied the jade box repeatedly and found something that resembled an emblem at the bottom of the box.
However, the emblem looked awfully familiar.
The image felt familiar to Cheng Xiaoxiao, but she was unable to put her finger on it.
Strangely, Cheng Xiaoxiao was unable to find any gaps in the jade box and it seemed as though there was no way to open it.
Then again, it was genuinely empty inside since she keenly sensed it in her hands.
Through the light, she could vaguely see through the jade box and something appeared to be floating inside.
The shape of its contents looked awfully familiar.
What was inside the jade box?
Cheng Xiaoxiao touched her neck out of habit before she realized that the jade pendant wasn’t there.
She had to focus on finding her jade pendant! She shouldn’t get distracted with the jade box.
Hang on!
The jade pendant?
The blurry silhouette inside the jade box seemed to take the same shape as her jade pendant!
How did her jade pendant get in there? Cheng Xiaoxiao found it unfathomable.
More importantly, how could she take it out now? Should she smash the jade box or something?
Well, it was no use trying to break it since Uncle Gen already said it was unbreakable.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt conflicted inside and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She was happy to find the jade pendant, but she couldn’t take it out of the jade box.
Never mind.
There was no point rushing into this. She had to find some way to get Chu Yunshen and the others out of this treacherous place.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked around the house one more time.
The floor was littered with super zombies and men. Cheng Xiaoxiao was the only woman in here and she had to take all of them back to safety.
She really felt like running. Just thinking about it made her feel exhausted.
Cheng Xiaoxiao wasn’t Popeye, so she couldn’t transform into a muscleman after eating spinach and have the strength to fight five men singlehandedly.
She sat on the ground leaning against her cheeks with utter disregard for her image. She frowned worriedly with her lips pouting and looked absolutely innocent and adorable.
Oh yes!
Cheng Xiaoxiao finally recalled what Xiaowu told Songtao before they entered the house.
They had a signal flare!
Cheng Xiaoxiao skipped over to Chu Yunshen and reached her hands out to feel around him.
As she felt around Chu Yunshen’s chest, she realized he felt a little warm. Also, his heart seemed to be palpitating and his breathing had quickened.
Was he having a fever?
Was Chu Yunshen that weak?
Just as Cheng Xiaoxiao was about to place her forehead against Chu Yunshen’s and see if he was having a fever, she happened to sense the signal flare at his waist.
She had found it!
Cheng Xiaoxiao stopped trying to check if Chu Yunshen was feverish. If they could go back to the residence, people could take care of it.
Life was always filled with coincidences.
The moment Cheng Xiaoxiao found the signal flare, her hand started to turn transparent and her snow-white cat’s fur became visible.
Just a little bit more!
Please, please, please!
After Cheng Xiaoxiao lit the signal flare, she threw it outside the house with all her might. By the time she heard the sound of the signal flare propelling into the air and fireworks exploding, she had already transformed into a white lion cat.
Fortunately, she activated the signal flare just before she transformed!
Now that Cheng Xiaoxiao had succeeded, she curled up in Chu Yunshen’s arms and waited for Songtao and the others to come in and save them.
Chu Yunshen’s eyes moved imperceptibly as he held the cat. It was so brief that no one took notice.
CLANG!
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as fine particles flew off the door. It fell loudly causing even more dust to float in its wake.
It was Songtao and the others!
That was pretty fast! Cheng Xiaoxiao pretended to be asleep as she buried her head in Chu Yunshen’s arms quietly.
“Master, are you okay.”
It was Songtao’s voice.
Cheng Xiaoxiao sensed Chu Yunshen’s body moving a little. Songtao was probably trying to wake him up.
They shouldn’t bother waking him up. They should just take them out first!
Cheng Xiaoxiao roared in her heart.
Why was Songtao so clueless? This was a dangerous place, so they should leave first and save the talking for later.
Even if he wanted to wake up Chu Yunshen, he had to pick the right place. If Chu Yunshen was able to regain consciousness here, something was definitely wrong.
Fortunately, Songtao wasn’t that stupid. Since Chu Yunshen remained unconscious, he stopped trying. He told the secret guards to carry all of them out of the village.
Before they left the house, Cheng Xiaoxiao heard a man saying, “Songtao, what should we do with the jade box?”
The jade box?
Her jade pendant was still in there!
Cheng Xiaoxiao stopped pretending to be unconscious as she struggled to escape Chu Yunshen’s embrace.
“Take it back to the residence and wait for Master to decide what to do with it after he regains consciousness.”
Songtao checked out the jade box briefly before putting it away at his chest.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was relieved to hear what Songtao said. She was terribly worried that one of these jokers would forget about her jade box. That would really make her want to cry.
Songtao was highly efficient, so they quickly arrived at the deserted area outside the village.
Since Uncle Gen was dead and Cheng Xiaoxiao had destroyed the formation, the thick fog enshrouding the village finally lifted and disappeared without a trace.
In the distance, the sky was clear and the sun was bright.
Sunlight beamed down on Cheng Xiaoxiao’s face through the thin clouds above. Cheng Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes as she observed Chu Yunshen overhead.
Chu Yunshen lay on the ground quietly. His enviable well-chiseled face remained gorgeous.
Cheng Xiaoxiao contemplated as she watched Chu Yunshen and couldn’t help thinking about everything they had gone through ever since she transmigrated here.
Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly missed the cool look in Chu Yunshen’s beautiful eyes. She really wished Chu Yunshen could just open his eyes and look at her.
Wake up!
Cheng Xiaoxiao kept chanting in her heart.
She sat beside Chu Yunshen and licked Chu Yunshen’s face with her tongue in an attempt to wake him up.
Chu Yunshen felt an itch on his face from the lion cat’s barbed tongue.
Perhaps Cheng Xiaoxiao’s licking worked or he happened to be waking up anyway, so Chu Yunshen gradually opened his eyes when Cheng Xiaoxiao started to swing her tail out of boredom.
Hmm?
Was someone touching her?
Who was it?
Cheng Xiaoxiao had her back against Chu Yunshen, so she was oblivious that Chu Yunshen had regained consciousness.
She was still suffering from PTSD after fighting Uncle Gen, so she immediately thought it was yet another supernatural attack and scratched the culprit without hesitation.
“You are such an ingrate.”
Chu Yunshen held the lion’s cat’s sharp paw and dodged her attack.
“Meow?”
Had he regained consciousness?
The moment Cheng Xiaoxiao heard Chu Yunshen’s voice, she turned her head happily even though Chu Yunshen was holding her paw.
Chu Yunshen couldn’t help laughing out loud when he saw the lion cat rubbing her head against him warmly. There was an almost imperceptible sense of indulgence in his voice. “You are such a bootlicker.”
Chu Yunshen carried the lion cat in his arms.
Cheng Xiaoxiao could sense Chu Yunshen’s temperature rising to normal gradually. Also, his face was starting to look a little healthier. She couldn’t help feeling delighted inside.
Cheng Xiaoxiao and Chu Yunshen certainly made a good team. She even managed to wake him up inadvertently.
Since Chu Yunshen had regained consciousness, the rest of them would probably wake up soon.
Why was Xiaowu still unconscious? Was he that weak?
Perhaps Chu Yunshen was far stronger than them.
As the saying went, when people spoke of the devil, he would come knocking.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was just thinking of Xiaowu when he moaned at the perfect time.
“Mmmm…”
Xiaowu was giddy. It felt as though he had woken up with a hangover from having too much to drink the night before. Also, it felt as though he was suffering from vertigo after losing too much blood.
“Master?”
Chu Yunshen carried the lion cat as he checked on everyone.
“Are you awake? We were attacked earlier.”
