Chapter 149 Who would end up having the last laugh?
Uncle Gen didn’t expect Cheng Xiaoxiao to be capable of talking big at a time like this. He frowned sternly with a murderous look on his face as he enunciated each word slowly, “Then-prepare-to-die!”
The moment Uncle Gen finished his sentence, he pulled out a stack of talismans. Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at the yellow talismans that had indecipherable writing in red ink written on them.
No way!
Was he going to use talismans this time?
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt a little annoyed. Why did Uncle Gen have so many tricks up his sleeve? Was he trying to torture her to death?
Uncle Gen’s lips moved slightly as he muttered something.
Cheng Xiaoxiao knew Uncle Gen must be chanting. Even though she had never used talismans herself, she always saw them activated this way on television dramas.
For once, she was going to have the honor to witness this firsthand.
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as the talismans started floating in front of her and smiled bitterly.
The yellow talismans resembled butterflies making her seem like Consort Xiang from a costume drama. In that drama, Consort Xiang was said to attract butterflies when she danced.
The talismans surrounded Cheng Xiaoxiao and moved up and down as though they were looking for the right place to attack.
“Attack!” shouted Uncle Gen loudly.
Cheng Xiaoxiao could sense the talismans around her suddenly appearing sharp and threatening. They seemed like razor blades that were capable of slicing through anything.
If she got cut by the talismans, it was probably game over for her!
Despite the grave danger lying in front of Cheng Xiaoxiao, she got distracted and wondered whether this was considered death by dismemberment for her.
The talismans were only slightly slower than Violent Wind Blast, but they managed to reach Cheng Xiaoxiao in a matter of seconds.
Just as Cheng Xiaoxiao was about to meet with imminent peril, she suddenly felt something guiding her from within. She used her hands to summon an attack that was previously unknown to her as the words rolled off her tongue automatically. “Cold Wind Attack!”
In the blink of an eye, the talismans surrounding Cheng Xiaoxiao got ripped to shreds. The broken pieces of paper looked like yellow-colored snow as they spiraled down from the air and landed on the ground.
Was she able to use Cold Wind Attack?
Cheng Xiaoxiao found this absolutely inconceivable. She looked at her hands as she opened her mouth wide and almost shouted in amazement.
Uncle Gen also looked at Cheng Xiaoxiao in shock. He was so upset that his face looked bereft of color and resembled a super zombie.
“It was you! You took the jade box after all!”
Uncle Gen disregarded his safety and charged straight towards Cheng Xiaoxiao. Cheng Xiaoxiao tried using Cold Wind Attack once more.
Wind swept through the air. It worked!
Sure enough, she could use Cold Wind Attack!
But why was this happening?
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at the jade box sitting in the center of the room and felt puzzled.
If she was able to summon a Cold Wind Attack, was she able to do other things as well?
Cheng Xiaoxiao performed Violent Wind Blast at Uncle Gen as he walked over to her.
Wind swished in the air before it hit Uncle Gen loudly as though something hard had struck soft human flesh. Uncle Gen moaned in agony promptly.
She was able to summon Violent Wind Blast as well?
Cheng Xiaoxiao almost wanted to jump in joy. Her time had finally come.
Uncle Gen vomited blood after he was hit by Cheng Xiaoxiao’s Violent Wind Blast. Cheng Xiaoxiao couldn’t help feeling flustered when she saw the murderous look in his eyes.
Who on earth was Uncle Gen? How could he have taken the blow so well?
He looked absolutely vicious and was no different from a wild wolf and seemed determined to tear Cheng Xiaoxiao to shreds.
“What are you looking at? If you come any closer, I will attack again!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao made a false show of strength as she threatened Uncle Gen.
Uncle Gen said nothing as he pulled out a stack of talismans from his chest before he bit his fingertip and drew on the yellow talismans.
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao knew that Uncle Gen was getting ready to attack with his talismans, she beat him to it and summoned Violent Wind Blast. Sadly, Uncle Gen persisted in standing where he was to draw on the talismans regardless of her attacks.
Cheng Xiaoxiao had a bad feeling and felt these talismans were probably slightly different from Uncle Gen’s previous attack.
Even though she was able to summon Cold Wind Attack, she was barely able to rip the talismans to shreds. She wondered how bad Uncle Gen’s attack would be this time. She had to come up with a Plan B.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked around and saw the super zombies sprawling everywhere along with Xiaowu and the others. She recalled the way Uncle Gen controlled the super zombies earlier.
Since the super zombies were completely dead, she could not use them.
What if she used Yin energy to control Xiaowu and the others?
Cheng Xiaoxiao wasn’t sure if she would succeed, but she wanted to give it a shot.
She felt that both she and Uncle Gen were probably using the power of the jade box. However, Uncle Gen didn’t have to worry about his physical form the way she did.
Moreover, the jade pendant was missing, so she didn’t know when she would finish using the spiritual energy and automatically transform into a cat.
Heavens knew if she could still access the jade box’s power in cat form. She did not know martial arts, so if she had to fight Uncle Gen, she might end up beaten to a pulp.
Also, Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t know how many talismans Uncle Gen possessed. No one knew exactly how much ammunition they had and who would be the last man standing.
It would be wiser to end the fight as soon as possible by using Xiaowu and finish off Uncle Gen once and for all.
Cheng Xiaoxiao stopped hesitating. She stared at Xiaowu as she thought about how Uncle Gen summoned the super zombies right at the start.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t pay much attention to Uncle Gen’s commands previously, so she didn’t know the difference between one gesture from the other.
However, her mind was crystal clear now. It felt as though this knowledge had always been deeply emblazoned in her mind all along.
The atmosphere came to a standstill as Cheng Xiaoxiao saw the dark energy at the center of the room spiraling towards Xiaowu.
……
Why wasn’t anything happening?
Xiaowu continued lying on the ground completely motionless.
Cheng Xiaoxiao couldn’t help feeling disappointed when Xiaowu didn’t even bat an eye.
Had it failed?
In that case, she could only rely on herself…
Cheng Xiaoxiao turned to look at Uncle Gen and noticed that he was still feverishly writing on the talismans. She sighed imperceptibly as she prepared for a violent storm to befall her.
KADA… KADA…
What was that sound?
Cheng Xiaoxiao got startled when she heard a strange sound coming from the side, so she quickly turned to look at Xiaowu and the others.
Where was Xiaowu?
Cheng Xiaoxiao got a real shock this time.
Xiaowu had disappeared and was no longer lying on the ground with the rest of them.
Cheng Xiaoxiao sensed gooseberries running down her back. It felt as though someone was looking at her from behind.
She turned around slowly as she furtively inched to the side bit by bit.
By the time Cheng Xiaoxiao finally finished turning around, she saw the missing Xiaowu standing behind her.
Xiaowu was looking at Cheng Xiaoxiao expressionlessly with emptiness in his eyes.
His face was particularly pale and Cheng Xiaoxiao could even see some dark energy swirling around his eyes.
Had she succeeded in summoning him?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was no longer scared. Since it was her second try, she was starting to get better. Xiaowu went straight towards Uncle Gen the moment she summoned him.
Uncle Gen was about to finish preparing the last few talismans. The moment Xiaowu walked up in front of Uncle Gen, Uncle Gen shouted, “Rise!”
The talismans rose and encircled Xiaowu like an inescapable net.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was standing so far that she was incapable of seeing Xiaowu. The talismans had surrounded him completely as they spun nonstop.
Would Xiaowu have trouble handling this?
Cheng Xiaoxiao certainly didn’t want to sacrifice Xiaowu in order to save herself.
She pondered before sending another Cold Wind Attack to be safe.
The Cold Wind Attack surprisingly had no effect on the yellow talismans whatsoever and failed to rip the talismans to shreds. Instead, the Cold Wind Attack disappeared without a trace.
“Hahahaha! Do you think you are unstoppable because you have the jade box? Let me show you a thing or two!”
Uncle Gen stood beside Xiaowu who was surrounded by yellow talismans as he admired his handiwork.
Cheng Xiaoxiao knew she had gotten Xiaowu in huge trouble when she discovered the Cold Wind Attack was useless against the yellow talismans.
She was worried that Xiaowu might end up dying, so she kept summoning Violent Wind Blast.
This time, a few yellow talismans got struck by the attacks. However, it was merely a handful of talismans.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was happy to see that the Violent Wind Blast was of some use. She was terribly worried it would be completely useless against the talismans.
As the saying went, having some use was better than none. In that case, she could continue assisting Xiaowu.
“Go on! Attack as many times as you like! You will never finish attacking them all!”
The more Uncle Gen acted nonchalantly, the more anxious Cheng Xiaoxiao became.
She was keenly aware that Uncle Gen had pulled all stops for the sake of settling this once and for all.
It was certainly the same for her.
Cheng Xiaoxiao thought about the predicament she was in, along with the unconscious Chu Yunshen and Xiaowu who was trapped by the yellow talismans and made up her mind to make a last-ditch attempt. She reached her hand out and summoned several Violent Wind Blasts.
Meanwhile, Xiaowu had started to fight back amid the yellow talismans.
He held his sword with his right hand and executed the kind of swordplay that Cheng Xiaoxiao at only ever seen on television dramas before.
Xiaowu’s swordplay was entirely different from that of Chu Yunshen’s when he fought the men dressed in black previously.
Chu Yunshen’s swordplay had excellent flow and every move he made was elegant, but they were at the same time lethal.
Murderous energy was concealed in his feints and ambushes making it impossible for his enemies to know when he was attacking.
Xiaowu’s sword techniques were relentless, violent, and particularly powerful. Every move he made was decisive, of deadly force, and completely unembellished.
Even though the yellow talismans were able to move swiftly, Cheng Xiaoxiao and Uncle Gen were shocked to see that Xiaowu was even quicker.
It seemed as though energy was bursting from Xiaowu. To be precise, powerful sword energy was flowing from his sword.
His sword energy sliced the yellow talismans into half altogether as they spun in the air. The moment they got split apart, they started falling to the ground one after another in a matter of seconds.
“Impossible! That is completely impossible!
Uncle Gen had painstakingly activated the yellow talismans with the blood from his fingertip, but Xiaowu ended up destroying them so quickly. He quickly pulled out more talismans from his chest as he exclaimed in disbelief.
He shouted in crescendo until he ended up roaring furiously altogether with his face flushed and livid.
His neck was red and bloated as beads of sweat trickled down his head with his lips frothing. His hands shook so hard that she could hear the talismans flapping.
“Rise!”
Uncle Gen threw another stack of yellow talismans. Before they even made it to midair, Xiaowu had already cut them down.
Cheng Xiaoxiao wiped the sweat from her brow when she saw Xiaowu destroying the yellow talismans effortlessly as though he were playing Fruit Ninja.
Earlier, she was worried that Xiaowu was no match for Uncle Gen, but she had clearly underestimated Xiaowu.
Xiaowu ended up completely unstoppable and capable of single-handedly taking out Uncle Gen any day.
Now that Cheng Xiaoxiao had the time to catch a breather, she was no longer worried. Instead, she made trouble for Uncle Gen every now and then after Xiaowu destroyed the talismans.
Xiaowu attacked like a flash of lightning and quickly finished off the talismans.
