Chapter 137 Mountain god and dark clouds
Wang Er and Li Erfa mentioned they only started working for Uncle Gen in the beginning of this year. However, most of the cases Di Yangze and Xiaowu had consolidated consisted of cases that took place over a year ago.
Xiaowu felt bad about getting too emotional when Wang Er went into the details of how he murdered the man and failed to connect the dots. He ended up overlooking such a fundamental problem.
Xiaowu awkwardly placed the testament on the table and tried to change the subject and asked Li Erfa, “Oh yes. Why are you so afraid of Uncle Gen?”
Li Erfa suddenly acted mysteriously as he looked around before whispering to Xiaowu, “We think Uncle Gen is the mountain god. He knows everything that happens on the mountain.”
A mountain god?
This was such a joke!
“How could you come to this conclusion just because of that?” Xiaowu didn’t know whether to cry or to laugh. He thought Uncle Gen might have some special abilities, but he didn’t expect these people to think Uncle Gen was a god.
Li Erfa noticed Xiaowu’s disbelief and continued explaining, “Just think about it. He knows about us selling things behind his back and killing Qian Jin. Also, I heard you were not able to catch him either. If he is not a god, how could he have done that?”
Li Erfa glanced at Xiaowu deeply in disdain for his stupidity, so he explained further, “Also, I have a feeling he knows about us selling things behind his back. All this time, he turned a blind eye to our actions. Since he has allowed us to do it, we shouldn’t be greedy…”
Li Erfa’s words were so inconceivable that Xiaowu didn’t take them to heart.
After he was done with the conversation, the atmosphere eased up. Xiaowu could sense Chu Yunshen was no longer looking at him as though he was hopeless.
Ming Zi seemed completely uninvolved in his jail cell as Li Erfa and Wang Er went into every detail about everything they knew.
Xiaowu knew why Chu Yunshen didn’t want the three of them to be interrogated together.
After all, Ming Zi was quiet to begin with, so it was hard to squeeze anything out of him.
Since Ming Zi kept a low profile and stayed out of their way, and there was a vendetta between Wang Er and Li Erfa, Wang Er and Li Erfa kept talking after they were triggered.
It felt as though Ming Zi was sitting forgotten in his tiny jail cell.
Xiaowu felt there must be a good reason for Chu Yunshen to hold back Ming Zi’s interrogation.
At Prince Jing’s residence.
Chu Yunshen and Xiaowu kept going back and forth home and the justice department. Since Cheng Xiaoxiao spent her days eating and sleeping, she couldn’t help feeling bored.
For some reason, Cheng Xiaoxiao felt something was missing whenever she couldn’t see Chu Yunshen for a long time.
She felt lonely and couldn’t get used to it, even though she had the baby bird to play with and Wan Xia would bring her milk paste.
She was convinced that it must be a side effect of being with Chu Yunshen for so long since he was forbidden to go out.
That must be it.
Even though Cheng Xiaoxiao kept convincing herself, she lunged into Chu Yunshen’s arms the moment he came back with Xiaowu.
Was he back? He didn’t come back quite as late tonight!
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s eyes turned starry as she tilted her head to look at Chu Yunshen excitedly waiting for him to pick her up
Chu Yunshen was about to pick up the lion cat when she suddenly jumped some distance to avoid him.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t want to make it so obvious either, but she was startled when she detected strange energy on Chu Yunshen. She instinctively jumped back to scrutinize Chu Yunshen.
Chu Hongyi was a prince, so he had dragon energy within him and Doudou was unable to hurt him.
Similarly, Chu Yunshen ended up harassed by female ghosts when he was injured and his dragon energy weakened.
But what was going on now?
Cheng Xiaoxiao could see some dark deathly energy from spiteful spirits near Chu Yunshen’s dragon energy. The dark energy seemed faint as it lingered outside the dragon energy. It wanted to come closer to Chu Yunshen but was incapable of doing it.
Hadn’t Chu Yunshen already recovered? Why would this happen out of the blue?
Cheng Xiaoxiao walked around Chu Yunshen and scrutinized him left and right as she attempted to figure out what went wrong.
Chu Yunshen felt uneasy from the lion cat’s stares. This time, he cleared his throat and didn’t want to pick up the lion cat. Instead, he went straight to his desk.
“Master, Wang Er, and Li Erfa have already confessed. What should we do about them?”
“We will go again tomorrow.”
Were they going to the justice department tomorrow again?
Didn’t Xiaowu just say they had confessed? Why did they have to go to the justice department?
Cheng Xiaoxiao could not wrap her mind around it. It was impossible for her to catch up with Chu Yunshen’s mind.
Fortunately, she was not the only person who was puzzled.
“Master, what do you want to…”
Cheng Xiaoxiao noticed how puzzled Xiaowu was.
Served him right for plotting against her all the time. Let’s see how far he could go this time.
“You said Ming Zi often stayed out.” Since Chu Yunshen wasn’t much of a talker, he always got to the point quickly.
Even though Cheng Xiaoxiao had no idea what he was saying, Xiaowu seemed to know.
“Oh yes! Ming Zi never joins us when we go for drinks. Also, he disappears for an entire night every now and then and only shows up the next day at work!”
Xiaowu was so excited that he forgot about being formal with Chu Yunshen.
How could Xiaowu forget something as crucial as this? He was getting worse by the day.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Xiaowu in contempt the moment she heard this before she pondered.
That’s right.
Chu Yunshen had been interrogating suspects recently. Could there be ghosts lingering in the prison?
He might have ended up like this after coming into contact with spirits.
After all, the prisoner completely fit the bill of a character in a horror movie for disappearing at night.
Cheng Xiaoxiao noticed Chu Yunshen rubbing his forehead tiredly. He simply acknowledged Xiaowu softly before he dismissed Xiaowu.
He must be exhausted.
He must be affected by the dark energy.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t know how to make Chu Yunshen feel better, but she jumped into Chu Yunshen’s arms gently.
The moment the lion cat suddenly jumped into Chu Yunshen’s arms, he froze for a split second before he immediately placed his hand on the soft lion cat and stroked her every now and then gently.
The jade pendant concealed under the lion cat’s fur was unknowingly giving off a green glow.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t dare to openly take out the jade pendant. However, she could faintly sense it trembling on her neck.
“Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao suddenly came up with something.
Since Chu Yunshen had just encountered ghosts, he must be going to a dangerous place, so she ought to tag along and check things out!
She wanted to find out what was going on once and for all.
Chu Yunshen had nothing to fear about this cold energy plaguing him with her around.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt terribly impressed by how intelligent she was! She felt she was brilliant!
Now that she had made up her mind, her mood lifted.
Chu Yunshen watched as the lion cat suddenly shook her tail leisurely as she rubbed against his chest happily.
Chu Yunshen didn’t know what Cheng Xiaoxiao was planning. Chu Yunshen finally knew what she wanted to do the next morning when Xiaowu came to see him.
“Let go! We have to go to the justice department today. Stop holding us up.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao hung from Chu Yunshen’s robe as though she was an accessory and even hooked Chu Yunshen’s embroidered robes with her claws.
Since her claws had only just regrown, she didn’t think Chu Yunshen would yank her off by force.
Chu Yunshen certainly could not bring himself to do it!
However, Xiaowu had no qualms about doing it!
Xiaowu felt anxious just looking at the jarring white lion cat in Chu Yunshen’s arms.
Of all times, did this little fellow have to make trouble now?
Xiaowu looked at the lion cat who ignored him as she pulled at Chu Yunshen’s robe even harder. He honestly couldn’t bear it.
Xiaowu’s hands came towards the lion cat.
What should she do now?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was flustered.
If Xiaowu took her away, she could not go to the jail cell with Chu Yunshen.
Just as Xiaowu’s hands were about to reach the lion cat’s fur on her back, Chu Yunshen dodged elegantly.
“It’s fine.”
Chu Yunshen lowered his head to look at the lion cat as she pretended to look innocent and stopped Xiaowu.
She kept telling Chu Yunshen to take her along with him.
Take her with him.
“Meow! Meow! Meow!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised her head and looked at Chu Yunshen pitifully with “bring her along” stamped all over her face.
After living together for so long, Chu Yunshen more or less knew Cheng Xiaoxiao’s personality.
“Can’t bear to leave me?”
Chu Yunshen’s husky voice came from over Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head.
Although he didn’t get it entirely right, Cheng Xiaoxiao nodded in agreement so that she could go with him and even rubbed her head against him adorably.
Chu Yunshen reached his hand out and rubbed the soft fur by the side of her face indulgently. He had not acted so affectionately to the lion cat in a long time.
Chu Yunshen went quiet briefly before he patiently pulled embroidery thread from her claws.
Was he not taking her?
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt dejected. Just as she was about to give up, she was suddenly lifted into the air and fell into his powerful embrace.
“In that case, I will bring you along!” said Chu Yunshen deeply in a soft tone by her ear with his head lowered.
Xiaowu didn’t know what to say.
Xiaowu thought the lion cat had already lost favor, but Chu Yunshen unexpectedly still cared about her. Even though he was in a hurry to get on with the investigation, Chu Yunshen brought her along.
Since Chu Yunshen’s robe was ruined by the cat, he could no longer wear it.
“Master, let me get you a fresh robe,” said Xiaowu as he secretly glared at the lion cat in Chu Yunshen’s arms while she looked back at him provokingly.
After all the delay, they were finally ready to head to the justice department when Butler Liu walked in and said to Chu Yunshen, “Your Highness, a guard from the justice department is here to see you.”
“Didn’t we say the interrogation will continue today? What is he doing here?” Xiaowu helped Chu Yunshen to straighten his robes as he looked at Chu Yunshen quickly.
Chu Yunshen straightened his sleeves and flattened his collar before he said calmly, “Send him in.”
