Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 127
Chapter 127 Xiaowu got hurt
Xiaowu was unfamiliar with the voice. He didn’t talk much to the man who was talking to Li Erfa, so he didn’t recognize it right away.
“What? Can’t I even say my opinion in the middle of nowhere?” retorted Li Erfa in contempt in a much softer tone.
The moment he finished his sentence, he resentfully shut his mouth and the others went quiet as well.
In an instant, only their breathing could be heard throughout the mountain.
Before long, someone broke this silence and changed the subject as they walked out of the unmarked burial site. The atmosphere finally became less tense.
Ever since Xiaowu left the place, he had been following nearby. He quickly arrived behind them at the mountain path they took when they first came.
They carefully walked up the mountain path one after another.
The mountain fog at night made it hard for them to see, making it even dangerous to travel on the mountain.
“Ah! Who tripped me?”
It was Wang Er’s voice!
Had something happened to them up ahead?
“AHHH! Help.”
Before Xiaowu had the chance to think, he could hear Wang Er’s screams becoming increasingly long and far.
Xiaowu did not have time to worry about exposing his identity. He jumped into the air gently using his martial arts and flew over.
Wang Er was hanging in midair with his hands still holding the edge of the path while he hung over a cliff by the side of the mountain.
All the other burial workers stood by the side helplessly. Ming Zi had a piece of tattered cloth in his hand. It seemed as though he neither wanted to save Wang Er nor knew how to do it.
Xiaowu reached his hands out to pull Wang Er up without hesitation. The path was so narrow that only one man could pass at a time and Wang Er hung from the edge of the cliff by the roadside.
Xiaowu’s face was flushed and his teeth could be heard grating against each other as he gritted them.
The people beside him finally snapped out of their shock. However, they were unable to help since there was nowhere else for them to stand in front of him.
Li Erfa felt so anxious that his face turned pale. He wanted to pull Xiaowu’s robes several times, but he was afraid it would only make things worse if he tried to help.
Ming Zi was stunned. He heard Wang Er screaming when it happened and quickly turned around to pull Wang Er. Sadly, all that remained in his hand was the fabric torn from Wang Er’s robes in the process.
Xiaowu could sense the earth beneath his feet loosening a little, so he gritted his teeth and did his utmost to pull Wang Er without a thought.
Despite the darkness, the dust rising in the air beneath his feet was clearly visible.
Even though Xiaowu was a highly skilled martial artist, he was unable to make it to Wang Er right away.
Wang Er was barely able to stand steady when he finally composed himself before Xiaowu disappeared from the path.
Everyone opened their mouths wide in shock for a long time and was incapable of speaking as they looked at the collapsed earth by the side of the cliff.
Li Erfa knelt on the ground altogether and said in a daze, “I-is he dead?”
Wang Er snapped out of his daze and lowered his eyes as he muttered, “Is he going to die? Did he just die so that he could save me?”
Wang Er’s face was filled with shock. Ming Zi was so dumbstruck that he kept looking at the spot Xiaowu had fallen from and was unable to speak altogether.
They clearly couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed. After all, Wang Er barely knew Xiaowu since it was the first time they ever met today.
None of them warmed up to Xiaowu after encountering him at the unmarked burial gravesites and they even kept poking fun at him.
How could he just fall from the cliff and die?
“Hurry up… Pull me up…”
A weak voice suddenly came from the side of the cliff.
Wang Er was the first to react and hurriedly told the rest to help.
He pulled one of Xiaowu’s arms with both hands while Li Erfa pulled Xiaowu’s other arm. The rest of them chanted as they pulled for a long time before they finally yanked Xiaowu up from the cliff.
Xiaowu’s left arm was covered with blood and its scent kept wafting in the air.
“You sure are lucky to be alive!”
Li Erfa asked curiously when Xiaowu finally came back up, “Don’t bother saying useless shit to him! Instead, we should ask why he is still here?”
Wang Er was no fool. Even though he was surprised Xiaowu had saved him, he calmly realized Xiaowu shouldn’t have been here.
“Erm… I lost my purse. My mother made it, so I came back for it.”
Xiaowu’s arm was in great pain, so he used it to help make his act more believable.
“Nonsense! Why would you appear from behind us if you were looking for your purse?”
Wang Er had calmed down completely. Now that his shock from falling had passed, he noticed a lot of loopholes in Xiaowu’s words, so he kept interrogating him.
Xiaowu remained calm. He covered the injuries on his left arm and gritted his teeth as he smiled at Wang Er. “I searched high and low, but couldn’t find it, so I followed behind you when I happened to see you walk out.”
“How could there be such a coincidence?”
Wang Er wanted to say more, but Li Erfa couldn’t bear looking and interrupted him right away, “Wang Er, are you about done? Just cut it out, will you? The guy just saved you.”
Xiaowu acted as though he was happy to answer any questions and waited for Wang Er to continue interrogating him.
Xiaowu kept holding his injured left hand with his right hand as he moaned every now and then.
Wang Er knew he was in the wrong, so he looked at the blood from Xiaowu’s arm before smiling sheepishly. “Let’s go back first and ask later.”
Xiaowu didn’t take it to heart. All of them left the mountain wrapped in thought.
Xiaowu thought about the danger he was in as he walked and broke out in cold sweat.
Although he was confident about saving Wang Er, he did not see the accident coming.
After he had pulled Wang Er up from the cliff, the earth beneath Xiaowu’s feet suddenly collapsed and he immediately fell.
Fortunately, he swiftly pulled out his soft sword from his waist and stabbed it into a crevice on the cliff wall. His arm had gotten badly cut by the stones on the cliff wall in the chaos.
If he was just a second slower…
A dark look swept across Xiaowu’s eyes as he covered his wounds even harder.
All of them hurried off the mountain without saying a word, so they arrived back in town relatively quickly.
After they got back to the city, Xiaowu parted ways with them. It was almost daybreak and it was turning bright gradually as sunlight peeked out from the edge of the sky.
Di Yangze was lying prone on the desk as he dozed off when Xiaowu got back to the justice department. The candlestick by his side was dripping with wax with a pile of archives neatly stacked beside him.
He didn’t expect Di Yangze to be such a serious worker.
“Sir Di, wake up,” said Xiaowu as he pushed Di Yangze’s shoulder and tried to wake him up.
After Di Yangze spent the entire evening going through the archives and sorting them out, he dozed off. He had barely slept before Xiaowu woke him up.
He opened his eyes groggily to see Xiaowu’s bloodstained hand.
“Ahhh!”
“It’s me.” Xiaowu pulled his hand back so as not to scare Di Yangze.
“Xiaowu? What happened to you? How did you end up hurt?” Even though Di Yangze was wide awake now, he couldn’t help getting startled by Xiaowu’s injuries.
“I’m fine. Are you done sorting out the archives?”
Since Xiaowu had lost a lot of blood, his face was ghastly pale.
He had already taken off his human skin mask before entering the justice department. Also, he took a slight detour in the alley to ensure no one was following him before he snuck into the justice department
Xiaowu had worked all night and was even injured, so he couldn’t help feeling tired. After taking the archives from Di Yangze, he swayed a little as he attempted to head back to Prince Jing’s residence.
“Are you really okay?”
Di Yangze felt worried seeing the bad shape Xiaowu was in. He wanted to ask more, but Xiaowu spoke airily before striding away.
“Why don’t you go back and have some rest? Don’t worry about me.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao was lying in bed dreaming about food when Xiaowu got back to see Chu Yunshen.
Chu Yunshen watched as the lion cat slept soundly. He inexplicably reached his head out to come close to the lion cat and smelled her head.
There was a milk scent coming from her.
He could not resist placing her little paws into his hands gently.
Cheng Xiaoxiao squirmed uneasily and her paws landed on the bed.
Chu Yunshen held her paws repeatedly after she kept pulling them away. He seemed to take pleasure in it.
Xiaowu witnessed a strange sight when he entered the room. Chu Yunshen was leaning over the bed with no regard to his image doing something.
Xiaowu contemplated before he cleared his throat to let Chu Yunshen know he was back.
Since Chu Yunshen was too engrossed in playing with the cat, he did not notice Xiaowu’s footsteps when he returned. The moment Xiaowu cleared his throat, Chu Yunshen sat up straight by the bedside.
He calmly straightened his outer robe which was slightly crumpled after he played with the cat and saw Xiaowu’s arm.
“What happened to your arm?’
If Chu Yunshen’s ears didn’t turn slightly red, Xiaowu would have felt deeply impressed by Chu Yunshen for being composed even when he was playing with the cat.
“Master, here are the archives for all the people who have disappeared from the unmarked burial graves.”
Xiaowu didn’t talk about his injuries. Instead, he placed the archives in front of Chu Yunshen.
“Also, I found a job working with them and have started investigating from inside. I noticed them secretly staying behind at the unmarked burial graves after burying the bodies, but I am still trying to find out what they are doing there.”
Chu Yunshen’s face turned even colder when he saw the blood and injuries on Xiaowu’s arm.
“As for my injuries… one of the burial workers nearly fell off the cliff earlier. I urgently needed to save him, so I accidentally got hurt.”
After going through Xiaowu’s case files, Chu Yunshen looked solemn. “Have all the missing persons’ cases in the recent years gone unsolved?”
Xiaowu contemplated before he replied, “Since Sir Di was unable to make any headway, he closed the cases.”
Chu Yunshen pondered but was unable to see any pattern here for the time being.
Chu Yunshen finally instructed Xiaowu in a soft tone as though he was worried about waking someone up, “Investigate those burial workers. Also, get Mu Bai to attend to your injuries!”
“Yes, Master!”
Huh?
Xiaowu automatically replied before he left the room. He opened his eyes wide and looked puzzled when he realized what Chu Yunshen had just said to him inside.
Did he just tell him to get Mu Bai to attend to his injuries?
It was the first time Chu Yunshen said such things to him!
If Xiaowu had a tail like the lion cat, it would definitely be waving happily now.
Chu Yunshen was showing concern for him!
After Xiaowu attended to his injuries, he slept until the afternoon before heading to the kitchen to find some food. He went to the justice department to investigate Wang Er’s identity after eating.
He found out that Wang Er, Li Erfa, and the others lived in the same compound. Also, they resided in the ghetto.
